If you were going to use an XServe as a (gulp) SBS 2003 Server

would you keep an OSX partiion??
I'd LOVE to get rid of my Dell box, which handles my accounting and security. My idea is to get an XServe (smaller rack presense, easier to maintain, etc) and install SBS 2003 on it, then "sell the Dell". My cabinet would look a LOT better with NO DELL boxes.
I'm thinking about only one partition for Windowze so I don't have to administrate another OSX station (that can only be accessed with a re-start anyway).
My plan would be to burn the BootCamp drivers first, start-up from the Windowze CD, erase the OSX drive, format the drive and install a fresh SBS 2003. Then install the BootCamp drivers...
Any reason this shouldn't work??
MacPro 3gig   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Certainly a trail blazer
So a couple important things to note about the whole Boot Camp thing:
1) If it works and you can boot to Windows 2003 server, still, there may be devices that do not work because there will be no drivers for the embedded hardware. Some work on your part.
2) If somehow this should become supported, note Boot Camp is beta software and drivers will not ever be final for Tiger. To get the "final" drivers you'd need to upgrade to Leopard.
I'd be interested to hear how your experience goes. I admire your dedication to using the wonderful Apple hardware but you're going out a bit on a support limb. Actually there's no limb at all.. you're more like a pole climber at a lumberjack competition

    Hi,
    Event 9646 occurs if a MAPI client opens more than the default value. You can follow the steps below for troubleshooting:
    1. Run regedit, and then click OK.
    2. Expand the following registry subkey:
       HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\ParametersSystem
    3. Right-click ParametersSystem, point to New, and then click  Key.
    4. Type MaxObjsPerMapiSession, and then press ENTER to name the new subkey.
    5. Right-click MaxObjsPerMapiSession, click New, and then click DWORD Value.
    6. Type Object_type, and then press ENTER to name the object.
    Note: Object_type is the name of the object type in the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.
    Hope this can be helpful to you.

    I need help identifying an old Macintosh game: it was a painting game where you rode a roller coaster to an art museum and you got to pick what kind of art work you were going to make. It was animated, 2D i believe. This was the early 90's and I've been trying to hunt it down. I think there was some kind of animal in it, a giraffe maybe?

    Could you be thinking of Microsoft Home's "Fine Artist" for Macintosh, as shown in this Amazon.com listing?  This program was bundled with the Performa series of Macs during the mid-90s.

  • :-( Something went wrong A problem occurred while you were trying to use your mailbox

    All,
    I finally installed Exchange 2013 on Datacenter 2012 R2. My first try to access the setup I encountered the following messages
    X-OWA-Error: Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.ObjectNotFoundException
    X-OWA-Version: 15.0.847.32
    X-FEServer: EXCHANGE001
    X-BEServer: EXCHANGE001
    Date: 4/18/2014 4:55:14 PMI'm tried another browser and still have the same issue. what I can I do to correctthis problem?

    Hi
    Did you try logging into outlook for the affected user  and see the results ?
    Did you try for one more user or the issue is happening for just one user ?
    You can run  Get-MailboxPermission  on the affected mailbox and see if there are any permissions missing
    Also i would suggest you to run Test-MAPIConnectivity -server mailbox1 | fl and see the results
    I think the mailbox might be missing few attributes like exchangemdb,home server etc
    Try recreating a new mailbox in Exchange 2013 and see the results

  • Using the /userva & /3gb switches with windows 2003 server

    hey guys ....
    i get the following errors wher performing an rman db backup (db 10.2.0 , on windows server 2003 enterprise edition):
    unable to queue I/O
    RMAN-03009: failure of backup command on ORA_DISK_1 channel at 10/30/2008 23:32:24

    ORA-27091: unable to queue I/O
    after doing some research , it seems like the problem is caused by the /3gb switch i'm using in the windows boot.ini as follows:
    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003, Enterprise" /fastdetect /3GB /PAE
    ( metalink NOTE:297498.1 : Resolving Instance Evictions on Windows Platforms was really helpful)
    using the performance monitor as described in the note , here's an average of the output on a moderately busy day:
    pool paged bytes=131460000
    pool nonpaged bytes=42738000
    free system page table entries=900
    now as indicated in the note , i intend to add the /userva switch too set to an apropriate value , but before doing that on the weekend , does anybody have any recommendations ?
    do u think the /pae flag will cause a problem ? & won't the memory reduced from the 3gb & added to the os kernel's PTE's force me to reduce any of the following components?
    3GB =
    a) AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY (used to address/map the indirect data buffers) +
    b) non-buffer_cache part of the SGA (Shared Pool, Large Pool, Java Pool, Streams Pool, Log buffer) +
    c) Oracle Process overhead +
    d) (Thread stack x number of threads(ie Oracle processes)) +
    c) PGA
    thank you in advance...

  • What are you going to use to replace younited with?

    Hello "Youniters".
    We are living sad times. As many of you allready know, Younited is going to be sold to Synchronoss.
    I was a bit shocked about this - where can I now store my most precious files?
    So, my question is, are you still going to use younited or move to another service? Are there other Finnish/European cloud storages out there?

    Hello, Sorry for my reply, but if there need to replace younited with something.... it's anyway can not be better solution, than stay with younited. Because all of services (which known for me) can not be so:  - trust (as example about my decision) as original younited (but for me - it's just based on "by F-Secure"-design); - security-level; It's mean... if replace younited, because it's start be "modern" younited.... so, any other variants - not better too.There have normal companies... with normal solutions and potentially with privacy/security/quality points, but there without any "guarantees" that they very strong work with "privacy". Just because - it's all same around services. And with "common" meanings... it's not a "privacy". With new background for younited... it's not really big difference in fact. But indeed critical (or can be a critical point). And it's possible to use, for example, Norwegian solutions as trusted and privacy-based.... or other variants, which can be around nice realization: - but it's not really so "potential" trust-status, which was with F-Secure. - can be a lot of troubles around "security" and "quality" (but can be more interesting for use and with more interesting features).  So... there can be a good point to stop use any cloud-storage/sync-services and re-place it with any other variants (or which can be as default for platform or something, which can be just a space for something not important and work as cloud-storage with backup-meanings). For me - best feature with younited was "by F-Secure". If it dropped - younited not really interesting as "service for something important". And maybe just as "cloud space" for some trash... or some "temporary" things.... or some of other things (which can be placed under OneDrive too.... for example).

    What I'm reading here is that you have attempted to re-activate your iMessaging server several times. For the iMessaging to be enabled it will need to activate betwee your device and the apple server. It CAN take up to 24 hours for the imessaging activation to activate.
    You didn't say in your post if the imessaging actually showed as being activated or if it is reading that it is in the process of activating. That would explain why you at one time were able to use iMessaging and now are not long able to use it. IF your imessaging is showing as being activated and still you are not able to iMessaging a contact that at a point in time you were able to message, I would be leaning hard on the server as being the culprit. (understanding that you said you already tried resetting Network settings).
    Good luck.

  • How to use Port to make a connection between Import Server and Source

    Hi guys,
    I wanna make a Import Server and Manager work with a MDM Repository and a Client System. I want the Import Server could listen the port, whenever the Client System want to sent some files to the Import Server, the Server could automatically import files.
    I know how to import a file by hand, but how to make it automatical? Use Port in Type?
    Regards
    Wang Yu
    Message was edited by: Yu Wang

    Hi,
    You can automate the Import or Syndication process using Ports.
    <b>Requirements:</b>
    1. Import Server need to be Installed.
    2. Client Systems need to be defined for the repository.
    3. Create the Port with type Inbound (for Import process). OutBound (for Syndication process)
    4. Associate a predefined map with the Port.
    <b>Note:</b>
    Each port is associated with only one map.
    While creating the ports, When you select the client system, it only populates the maps defined for that client system.
    Make sure if you want to use the same client system for both import and syndication.
      Specify the Client system type as "Inbound/Outbound"
    <b>Steps involved:</b>
    Using MDM Console, In the repository Admin section
    1. Select Client Systems-> this is where you have to define the Client Systems , which you are going to use for the ports.
    Make sure you have define the Import Maps for the specific repository,specific Client System using Import Manager.
    2. Select Ports->This is where you create Port and other related information related to it.
    Once the Port is created, You see a specific directory structure created in the MDM Server installation directory
    <<MDM Server Install_Dir>> ->Distributions -> <<DBMSHOST_DBMS_TYPE>> -> <<Repository Name>> ->
    <<Port Type>> -> <<Client System ID>> ->
    <<Port Code>>
    Under the above sturcture it will have the following directories
    -> Ready
    -> Archive
    -> Status
    -> Log
    <i><b>Ready Folder :</b></i>
    -> In Import Process the import Server will pick up the file from this directory based on the specifc interval you specify in mdis.ini file(This can be found in Import Server installation directory).
    <b><i>Archive Folder:</i></b>
    -> Once the file is picked by the Import Server from Ready folder and if it is processed then the file will be moved to this di
    rectory with some date stamp suffixed.
    <b><i>Log Folder:</i></b>
    ->Log information for that process
    <b><i>Status Folder:</i></b>
    ->Status of process will be kept in this folder.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Running Windows 2003 Server on Xserve Intel with BootCamp?

    Well...
    This sounds like awfully bad idea, but one of our clients needs to run Windows 2003 Server for a certain project in their organisation. Fundings for the new hardware is available. Windows-compatible hardware!
    The idea here is to get fundings for a new Xserve, run it with Windows 2003 Server in the project and then keep the delicious hardware for free when the project ends. A PC-server would be thrown out of a window in this 100% Mac-centric department.
    Windows 2003 Server runs smoothly on a MacPro with Boot Camp and Parallels Desktop. What about the XServe Intel?

    Schuckert-
    Greetings.
    Are you in a position to test the configuration for a while? If so then I vote do it. If not, you could buy a copy of OSX Server and install it on a Mac Pro and try running your software on the XServe platform.
    However, depending on your relationship with this client, I would have them sign a release based upon the beta-ness of the software.
    A lot of us here are not in a position to give such things a try-just yet. Too busy trying to make things transition smoothly on the accepted configurations.
    Although I will say that I suppose a client will eventually pose the question to me (:>)
    Luck-

    I have experienced the exact same thing... I figured out a way around it, which seems to work every time. 1. quit iTunes
    2. open iPhoto
    3. unplug the iphone usb cable from the computer
    4. turn your phone on, and unlock it.
    5. plug in the usb cable. after about 10 seconds or so, iPhoto should prompt you with items to import. -p
