IFS Benefits/features over default portal functionality?

If I can already create folders, upload/download/search docs in portal and grant access to those with item level permissions, etc., what is the real benefit of using iFS with portal?
After reading the iFS docs, I can't really see any. I hope that some of you who already have experience using both in portal could provide some insight.
Thanks

Portal is not meant as an Enterprise Content Management Platform. In fact, in upcoming releases you will find that most of Portal's current CM functionality is replaced with Oracle CMSDK/Files functionality.
For starters CMSDK gives you access to the same content from a variety of protocol servers(FTP/SMB/WebDAV/NFS/AFP/) as well as the simple Portlet.
Compare this to Portal which only as of v9.0.2 has introduced WebDAV support.
Portal does not offer the ability to extend, customize and override the internal file system functionality that the CMSDK provides you.
CMSDK gives you features such as
Document Subclassing / Defining of Custom Objects and Metadata
Categories
Agents - time based / and event based
Server Side Overrides
Mutli-levels of Versioning
Rich API
The list goes on.
View the CMSDK Developer's Guide.

  • Benefits of using vendor partner function

    Hello Experts:
I understand the general use of vendor partner function. But what are the benefits of using vendor partner function? Is it for ease of reporting? Is there a functionality down the line that will not be possible if a vendor partner function is not used?
The reasoning for this question is, I am at a client that has the general association of vendor and remit to addresses. However, they also have a scenario where they have one main vendor, but there are 30+ remit to addresses. These remit to addresses are dependent on the plant that placed the order. As an example, the vendor is AT&T, but the plant that uses the service in Caifornia sends the check to a remit to address in Calif. The plant in Arizona, sends their check to another AT&T remit to address in AZ.
My current solution is, for the client to create the partner function that are more straight forward, one main vendor and one remit to address. As for the vendors that have multiple remit to addresses, i am opting out not to create the partner function. Which is why I am asking if there is an issue not using vendor partner function.
Thanks in advance for your help!!

It is certainly possible to work without partner functions in SAP.
It is almost impossible  to work without partner functions in SAP if you do business with global players and need some comfort for your processes.
It is impossible to work without partner functions if oyu have to do Intrastat reporting with SAP and your goods supplier is located in a different EU country than your vendor.
In your special case with AT&T without partner functions, you would enter the invoice to your main vendor, the payment run then creates a cheque to your main vendor (and you then use Microsoft word to create a lable with the remit to address that you stick over the SAP printed address on the cheque ..... how does Finance department know that it has to create this lable?.....how will you be able to trace who got the cheque? ..........this is not a good practice)
Especially in this case the partner funtions gives the real benefit.
partner funtions are not for ease of reporting, as You cannot run analyses for any of the other partner roles supplied in the standard system.
if you use invoicing party, then  the invoicing partyu2019s account will be charged instead of the vendoru2019s.

  • SSHR - MSS - include Benefits page in the Hire function

    Hello -
My client's requirement is to include the Benefits function in the "Hire" sequence of pages in Manager Self Service.
The sequence of pages required for "Hire" is--
Enter Basic Details > Person Details > Assignment > Pay Rate > Benefits > Review
Now, Benefits is inside SSBEN item type, whereas rest of the functions is in HRSSA. I want to know how we can achieve this requirement.
Can we create a workflow function in HRSSA and somehow point it to the benefits page? What else need to be done to achieve the functionality.
    Thanks
    Tushar Kumar - Atlanta

    Hi Tushar,
SSBEN is built and configured differently from other manager SS functions and so, it will not be possible to integrate it with other flows (Especially Hire) You can add the benefits function to the manager SS menu and the managers can separately go and provide benefits to employees.
In most cases, benefits can be defaulted for employees and the rest are chosen by employees themselves. why is there a requirement for managers to do it ?

  • E-mail out of Workflow from UWL over federated portals

    Hello all,
We want to create an e-mail, containing a link to the portal. Is there a possible way for constructing the hyperlink since we are using the federated portal approach? (means this E-mail coming from the workflow of the producer Portal and should be send to the consumer Portal). As a result the link is dynamic and not static. Nevertheless the link should function in any of both possible cases (producer AND consumer portal).
Example for business case: User is signed on in Consumer portal but owns role/iView from ESS/MSS in producer portal over federated portal approach. The producer portal creates an e-mail and the hyperlink contained in it has to link to the task/UWL in the producer portal in spite of the fact that the user only owns “direct log in” in the consumer portal.
The E-Mail itself might be produced via an e-mail task in Workflow Builder or by using the function module SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1. The hyperlink should then be part of the parameter OBJECT_CONTENT of this function module.
Have anybody a good tip / answer for this ??
    Thx
    Mario

At this stage I run the workflow which reads the owner of the regarding customer and assign the email to this owner.(this step is working fine as expected). This workflow is written on E-mail entity and fires on Regarding field change of the email record.
Problem is, our business wants this email to be automatically removed from the support queue so that it should only sit in the newly assigned owner's queue (at the moment they are manually remove it from support queue.)
If this is where you are creating a queue item which is assigned to your support queue? If yes, you can assign this queue item to the owner of the record rather.

  • Moving custom default portal from 1.1 to 1.2

Is there a way to capture or backup the html & image files from a custom default portal in ISE 1.1 to be able to move it to a fresh install of ISE 1.2.  Would it be in the backup somewhere?

Cisco ISE allows you to make global customizations that that affects the look, feel and behavior of the web pages users see in the Guest, Sponsor, and My Devices portals:

  • Please specify how do we can activate a web scope feature over all sub webs when a solution package is activated.???

please specify how do we can activate a web scope feature over all sub webs when a solution package is activated.
when a solution package is deactivated the web scope features over all sub website gone deactivated and does not re-activated when solution package is activated.
we have couples of sub webs to activate web features manually that should be activated when a solution package is activated.
all sub webs are created by custom web templates onet.xml.

    Hi,
I can think of three different solution (all custom solution)
Use Powershell Cmdlet to activate feature to all sub sites
Upgrade your solution to Site Collection scope, However all subsites under the root will have access to the features, which you may want to restrict based on your requirement
create a site scoped solution feature to activate the web scoped features, this will give you more control and easier management of all your features

  • Cannot find default Portal error iView DedicationAlerter

    Hi,
I would like to have the default portal error iView collapsed as per default to avoid showing a long stack trace. The path to the default iView can be set here:
      a.      Choose System Administration  -> Support  ->Support-Desk -> Portal Runtime -> Workload Distribution Configuration.
      b.      Click on folder Workload Distribution Configuration.
      c.      Go to edit mode for service DistributionConfiguration.
      d.      In the field Default Alert iView Name  enter the desired iView path and click on Apply.
I can see here that the current default error iview is called: com.sap.portal.supportability.isolde.DedicationAlerter
But where in my PCD can I find this iView so that I can either change a property on it or make a copy to customize? I have done a PCD search and it does not seem to exist.
Or is there another way I can accomplish the same? I know about the Visual Admin settings like DEVELOPMENT_MODE and DetailedErrorResponse but the problem is that they also remove the first line of the stack trace. I would still like to display that line to help support.
    Br Jan

From the setting as you have mentioned previously I think it is directly calling the portal component.
Probably you can have you custom component name in there and see. (download the existing par, do necessary modifications and upload with a different name)

Love the wiki portlet feature in sun portal server .. It uses jspwiki and has xinha HTML Editor (with insert portlet option where in you can insert any portlet channel within your wiki page)
If you are considering more community features then probably you should have a look at 7.1u1 (to be released soon) which is web2.0 rich

  • General role of the SSO interface version on portal functioning

i have some general questions about the SSO version and the Portals functioning. it relates specifically to 9iAS portals 3.0.9 and OracelAS 10g(904).
    - how significant is the SSO interface version (like v1.1, or v1.2) in the portal functioning.
    - what relevance does it have with the WWSEC_ENABLER_CONFIG_INFO table entries? i know it can be seen in that table too. but what does it do for these entries.
    - if the SSO interface version is not correct, does it change the site2pstoretoken value? i suppose it precedes this token value sometimes. does it not show this toeken value altogether?
    - what errors one should expect if the SSO interface version is not correct for a certain portal?
    thanks for any help.

    Hello Murthy,
What about simply use function module BBP_USER_GET_DETAIL with importing parameter USERNAME = SY-UNAME ?
You will get all user's roles in table ACTIVITYGROUPS.
    Regards.
    Laurent.

  • Reconfigure default portal group

By default portal group name is constructed with cn=portal.$timestamp. I'm trying to re-configure it so it will simply use cn=portal,cn=xxx....
Anyone has the procedures on how to do it ?
I have updated OID/SSO tab in portal, created a new entry in orclapplicationcommonname=,cn=Portal,cn=Products,cn=OracleContext and a new entry in portal group container (cn=Groups, dc=...). However it still appears that OID is looking up the default group.

    Hernando,
We are actually doing an parallel build and would like to migrate the OID entries from 9026 to 1012 repository. In previous version we only have dn=portal and we would like to keep it the same.
It is not an important task but just wondering if anyone has done it.
