IFS Node hanging (Needs Database restart)

Hi ,
We have system which was working pretty good.Recently we started getting these problems with the iFS node. We are not able to connect to iFS and our client applications are getting the following error.
We have the follwing configuration.
1) Oracle iFS 9.0.1
2) Oracle DB 9.0.1
3) We use iFS SDK as middle tier and run iFS service on middle tier
4) We have some custom agents running on serverside (Node).
5) Node runs with default service which uses "SmallServiceConfiguration".
6) Clients also use service property file which has "SmallServiceConfiguration".
Here is the exception which we are getting.
java.lang.Exception: Exception while trying to get Connection
oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-21008: Unable to connect to iFS service
oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-10151: Unable to perform authentication

Looking forward for your reply.

Hi Luis,
We have web applications which creates library session for each user who logs in. The library session gets disconnected when users HttpSession gets invalidated.
We did check how many connections were open from the application by running query against V$session table and there were around 30 inactive connections.
Rightnow here are the details of properties which are set.
# Service data cache
IFS.SERVICE.DATACACHE.Size=7500
IFS.SERVICE.DATACACHE.NormalTrigger=5000
IFS.SERVICE.DATACACHE.UrgentTrigger=5500
IFS.SERVICE.DATACACHE.EmergencyTrigger=6000
IFS.SERVICE.DATACACHE.PurgeTarget=4000
# Writeable connection pool
IFS.SERVICE.CONNECTIONPOOL.WRITEABLE.MinimumSize=2
IFS.SERVICE.CONNECTIONPOOL.WRITEABLE.TargetSize=5
IFS.SERVICE.CONNECTIONPOOL.WRITEABLE.MaximumSize=10
IFS.SERVICE.CONNECTIONPOOL.WRITEABLE.TargetSizeTimeout=1000
IFS.SERVICE.CONNECTIONPOOL.WRITEABLE.MaximumSizeTimeout=10000
# Readonly connection pool
IFS.SERVICE.CONNECTIONPOOL.READONLY.MinimumSize=2
IFS.SERVICE.CONNECTIONPOOL.READONLY.TargetSize=5
IFS.SERVICE.CONNECTIONPOOL.READONLY.MaximumSize=10
IFS.SERVICE.CONNECTIONPOOL.READONLY.TargetSizeTimeout=1000
IFS.SERVICE.CONNECTIONPOOL.READONLY.MaximumSizeTimeout=10000
These are values from "SmallServiceConfiguration" which we are using. Since we have web based application there might be time when some operations are executing concurrently. Do you think that has anything to do with Node being hung? .
We haven't tried using "medium" / "Large" service configuration yet , but are thinking to change it to "medium" . Should we do the change at the middle layer where we run our webapplication or at Node layer ?
Let me know your responses and we will try it and see whether that solves the problem.
Thanks

  • IPhoto'11 (9.1.5) hangs; needs a restart of iMac

    After launching iPhoto and using it for a few days, when I go to launch it again it hangs. (SBPD permanently).  Force quitting has no effect. No error messages. I have to restart my iMac (Mid 2011 model). Its a nuisance.
    Any ideas please?

    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

    Hey, I had the same problem.  This fixed the problem for me:
    Click the magnifying glass next to the seach bar and turn off "search entire library".
    I'm not sure what this does, but it still seems to search all of my library.

  • I need to restart the database

    Hi Guys,
    I have migrated my database from oracle 9i to 10gR2 and from 32bit windows to 64bit RHEL4 using full database export and import. Everything works fine. We have got some performance enhancements also.
    But one report generation module which was supposed to complete in 25 minutes takes 1-2 hrs. to complete. Most of the time we need to restart the database to complete the operation. After restarting the database it completes within 15 mintutes.
    What may be cause of such behaviour, any idea? How should I proceed to resolve the issue? The cursor_sharing paramater is 'FORCE' which was same in our 9i setup also.
    Regards,
    Santosh

    Hi,
    >>After restarting the database it completes within 15 mintutes.
    It seems this doesn't make sense. Did you gather statistics for the tables? In addition, take a look at AWR from OEM that contains performance statistics and workload information on the database that is captured every hour and preserved for seven days by default. In this case, historical information is important to diagnose a performance problem that has already happened

  • "WARNING! Closed connections to peer [standby IP] database! Please restart peer node to bring databases in sync!!"

    i have a two appliances of NAC Manager, i want to make a failover, but i only connect them with a crossover cable on eth1,
    is it neccesary conect a serial cable?, because when i try to verify a failover  they appear  this:
    “WARNING! Closed connections to peer [192.168.0.254] database! Please restart peer node to bring databases in sync!!” in each one

    Hi. I had a lot of those messages. In my scenario the failover bundle works OK during certain time but ocassionally the hearbeat fails (never knew why) and the warning messages appeared. Since there's no sync anymore the config in both manager will be different, so the very first thing to do is to backup the configuration. Please notice if the current active NAM is the primary or the secondary NAM (it's necessary to know this information for the later steps).
    Then you will have to stop both NAM (service perfigo stop)
    Now there's an extra step only if the last active NAM was the secondary : you will have to restore the backup into the primary NAM (since this NAM will have an outdated configuration).
    Now back to the regular steps. You must start both NAM . The primary NAM will be the new active , synchronization will take some minutes, after that the "warning" will be cleared.
    Please rate if it helps.

    SPFILE is a dynamic file so it does not need any sort of server restart.Also though it can be readable by any utility which can read any binary,its not advisable to read spfile like this.The best (recommended ) way is to create a pfile from it and then alter it if you need it.

  • OEM Console does not show IFS Node or Folder....

    Does anyone know why ?
    Regards
    Rajiv

    To manage 9iFS from a remote OEM 9.0.1 console, i.e. get the iFS Node or Folder to appear, you need to install the following on your Windows NT client in this order:
    1) Oracle 9i Client (Admin option)
    2) Oracle HTTP Server using 9i Enterprise Edition CD 1 (which prompts for CD 2). Deselect all other products from bottom up to avoid dependency problems.
    3) Oracle 9iFS (choose 9iFS Administration Configuration when the Configuration Assistant runs and click on Configure)
    Reboot your PC which will restart HTTP Server and Intelligent Agent and you should now see Internet File Systems in the OEM Console Navigator, rediscover the iFS node if you cant. Ignore the instruction to run ifsomssetup because it will complain that it cannot find oemctl.bat. ifsomssetup is only designed to make OMS aware of 9iFS but you will have run this script previously when you installed 9iFS on the server, so there should be no need to run it again.
    Note that if you dont install HTTP Server on Windows NT client then 9iFS Config Assistant will fail to run, giving error: "No output available for this tool". HTTP Server does not need to be installed on Windows 2000 as the iFS Config Assistant will run successfully

  • You need to restart your computer/can't mount Macintosh HD

    My problem is a bit of a complicated one and I have a lot of background info to explain, therefore I will try to go into great detail so please bear with me.
    A couple of days ago I used Boot Camp to install Windows Vista on my Macbook. Everything was working fine and I used vista with no problems for a few days. Then yesterday I was playing a game in Vista and instead of manually quiting out of the game I took the lazy way out and just pressed the power button on my Mac which I had set in Vista to power down the computer. After a few second Vista shut down like it should have and the computer was off. I then pressed the power button again to turn on the computer. My startup disk at this point was Macintosh HD so I just let it boot up onto that volume.
    And that's where the problems began. OS X booted BUT not all the way. It went past the startup chime, past the gray Apple, all the way to the blue screen with the rotating gear. But then it just stopped there. At first I thought the computer was just slow starting up because I shut down from Vista in a strange way but after a substantial amount of time of OS X not going past that point with the blue screen and rotating gear I decided to restart by pressing the power button for a few seconds and then pressing it again to start up. It went to the same place and hanged again. I did this 3 or 4 more times with no luck.
    At this point, I consulted my Macbook manual and found out what to do if the computer doesn't start up. The best solution I could find by looking through pages 43 to 45 was to *zap the PRAM*. Simple enough, I restarted the computer and did the key combination and it restarted. Upon being restarted, it no longer went to the blue screen. No, no, not even close. It showed me the gray Apple logo and then after a second or two showed me the dreaded "You need to restart your computer" screen in four languages. No matter how many times I restarted and booted into OS X, it always showed that.
    Now I have tried rezapping the PRAM probably ten times now and all it does is it shows me that as I have now learned "kernel panic" screen.
    So I thought maybe I could repair the volume using Disk Utility on my OS X Installation DVD. So I did just that. I repaired the Macintosh HD volume. And that's when I noticed something strange. The Macintosh HD Volume was grayed out. I could still click on it and Disk Utility would still display options for what I could do with it but it was greyed out. It didn't take me long to find out that the volume was not mounted. I noticed this because my "Untitled" Windows Vista volume was not grayed out and had an "unmount" button. Again it didn't take me long to figure out that I should just click the mount button and my problems would be over. So I clicked and nothing happened. It just did something for a few seconds but didn't mount it. I don't know how many times I clicked on that **** button (out of frustration) but nothing happened.
    And this is where I am now, with no idea about what I can do. My biggest worry is that I'll have to format the Macintosh HD and reinstall OS X but that's really my last, last resort because I have documents that are not backed up anywhere else and it would be a great hassle to restore them. If I was wiser I would have bought backup software for my Mac but I only bought it a month ago and went on an overseas trip in a very far away place a few days after buying it.
    Anyway, it would be great if there was some sort of solution to fix this problem without wiping my volume clean. If there is none, and trust me, I'd try anything as long as I don't lose my files, then is there some sort of utility that can back up my volume onto a DVD or external hard-drive or something without booting up into OS X??
    By the way, if this helps in any way: I have no problems booting up and using the Windows Vista volume.
    Thanks in advance, and please help me.

    Hello,
    First of all thanks for the reply. The only problem is that I've already tried what you suggested. When I press the option key on the keyboard with the installation cd inserted I see what I am supposed to, the CD, Windows Vista and Macintosh HD. When I select Macintosh HD it does that same thing, goes to the "restart your computer" screen.
    If I try to change the startup disk from the OS X Installation disk the only two volumes that show up are "Windows Vista on Untitled" and the "OS X Installation" disk, no Macintosh HD to even choose. I believe the reason for this is because Macintosh HD but as I have already said, it just can't be mounted.
    I think the reason that Macintosh HD shows up when I press Option at startup is because Apple has hard-coded it in so that it's always there, no matter if you can actually access it or not depending on whether or not it's mounted.
    Right now the best thing for me is to find out how to mount Macintosh HD, if it has to be done manually through Terminal I'll do it, I just need the syntax but something tells me if it doesn't work through GUI it probably won't work through command prompt.
    Anyway, thanks for the reply. Let's hope we get something.

  • You need to restart your computer ...

    Hi,
    Just started getting the message, You need to restart your computer ...
    The mac constantly crashes at startup, it even crashes from CD start-up.
    I have;
    1-reset nvram
    2-changed battery
    3-zapped pram
    4-changed ram
    5-changed video card
    6-removed everything except power cable
    7-removed battery, unplugged for several hours, tried to re-boot
    8-tried to boot to safe mode, but holding shift does not seem to work, although I use a swedish keyboard, and some of the comMands are in different places (anyone know where the shift command is, on a Swedish keyboard)
    9-screamed, shouted!
    All with the same results.
    The mac powers up, fans work. the red light is on the motherboard, but it just cannot boot (except for a couple of times, but then froze after several minutes).
    If it gets to the blue screen it is usually the , 'You need to restart...' message, but I have also had 'System failure: CPU=01, 00000001 (corrupt stack) plus a few variations on this message.
    A few of the crashes have lines of code/test covering the screen ending in 'we are hanging here'.
    I am thinking it must be the CPU?, as the mac powers up, and does try to start.
    As you will see from my info, the CPU is a 1.47 MHz upgrade.
    I hope someone can help, cheers.

    Hi,
    I use a swedish keyboard, and some of the comMands are in different places (anyone know where the shift command is, on a Swedish keyboard)
    Looks like both Shift keys are in the same place as here...
    corrupt stack
    Usually that means bad RAM, but it could be anything from CPU to Logic Board.
    Does it get further along in the boot if it's cooled for a few hours?

    Please throw me the light, what may be issue.

    I suggest you install [ IPD/OS|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/clustering/ipd_download_homepage.html] on you cluster. This will give you all the relevant OS statistics so when a node reboot happens, you can figure out what the state of the nodes was at that time and then fix the problem. The hang is often caused by something other than Oracle RAC.

    1. Can you please suggest why do we need to restart teh XI Server ?
    It is not done on the frequent basis until you fae some problems like file adapter not appearing in the adapter configuration.....none of the adaters are present in ID (EX)
    it will only start the servicess or other things which were hanging or not responding state.....
    2. In what way it will be helpful for us ?
    ot moght e helpfull some times but not always...it depends on the probelm you are facing...lot of problems can be solved without restarting the server
    3. Will it clear any locks ? or any dump files ?
       Not sure
    4. Is it recommended to star t and stop the sever ?
      Not recomded to do it frequenlty without any valid reason (until you apply some patches etc)
