IFS reference resources

Hi.
We now using Oracle internet file system as an integral part of our infrastructure. As a result of this I'm writing more and more complex Java code as our needs develop. I should point out that we only using the Java API and none of your other interfaces.
I'm desperately in need of further reference material as I have exhausted the JavaDocs. I find the discussion forum helpful, but not always in depth enough.
What I really need is a serious API reference that explains the object model and API in some detail. Is there a book or any training courses in the pipeline?
Betas or pre-release texts would be extremely helpful. And you get free proof reading ;o)
Thanks, it's a great product!
Nick

Hi, Nick.
The Oracle Internet File System documentation team is hard at work producing the materials you described in your message. We will begin to post more in-depth developer information shortly, beginning with setting up your development environment and an anatomy of Internet File System for developers. We have also posted two new technical briefs: one on data validation and another on versioning.
Thanks for your interest.

  • HELP!! Very much in need of GarageBand and podcasting reference resources..

    ...as simple as Apple has made podcasting with GarageBand 3, I've still no real reference material (i.e. BOOKS or MANUALS) that would allow me to take advantage of so many of the finer points of GB 3 which I read of here but which go right over my head.
    Yes, I've purchased a decent microphone and made some sample voice recordings that have exceptional voice quality reproduction (it's a very, very good mic although I'd like, if possible, to augment my recorded voice for a slightly deeper and smoother timbre - something I recall that was oh-so-simple in the days of Macromedia's SoundEdit for those who remember it) but I'd like to augment the podcasts in toto so that they would have some of the 'semi'-professional (or - at least - INTERESTING) bits that give flavor to some of the podcasts to which I subscribe. I'm not looking to go pro, and I'm not hoping for a wide audience - I've a very specific 'market' in mind that I think would embrace the material I want to present.
    When I visit Amazon, there are two GarageBand 3 books that I've had on order for over a month, with no expected delivery date... and a slew of books on podcasting (although searching for 'podcasting garageband' yields no 'hits'). There is one general (i.e. not Mac or GarageBand) book, Podcast Solutions: The Complete Guide to Podcasting, that seems to get more acclaim, and that is more popular, than others (many of which have user reviews stating that they're intended primarily for Windows).
    I know that GB is supposed to be so simple that it can be used by a child but, as I stumble through it and find more goodies, as I subscribe to podcasts and am amazed as to what nonprofessionals are producing, and as I read Q&A's here, I realize that it is far more feature-laden than one expects reading the Help menu and the "Getting Started With GarageBand 3" pdf file.
    So I'm looking for recommendations... if there are no GarageBand 3 books on the market, so be it... but surely there are podcasting books available (beyond the scope of Amazon's search engine?) which might mention previous versions of GarageBand for use with podcasting in a more than passing manner?

    Hi cbd2 You've already done the most important part which is ordering books on the subject. Unfortunately though when you buy books on a product like this they are only good for 6-8 months because it takes so long for them to release the books, and then soon after a new version of the product comes out. Computers and their software evolve very quickly and that's just the nature of the beast. Another good book resource can be found HERE. They have some of the best prices and their service is very good too. But no book store, no matter how good they might, be can ship you a book that hasn't been released yet (as you are finding out now). This is why forums like this one are so important, they evolve at the same rate as the software do. Get friendly with the search engine, it will be your best friend until your new books arrive. A new GB forum and resource site will be opening up HERE, but no opening date has been announced just yet. Another good thing about forums like this one is that you can ask specific questions. You can't do that with a book. Apple also has some tutorials that you might want to watch. I'll see if I can locate them and post a link for you

  • A,B resources go down when gateway is unreachable

    I'm using Sun cluster, where on node A there is allocated resource "1" and on node B resource "2".
    We are using IPMP daemon where we are testing gateway.
    I need to find out strange behaviour of cluster when gateway is unreachable, because A,B resources go down so they are unavailable both on A and on B.
    If gateway is unreachable I need keeping availability for resources inside LAN network where there are server A and B so all clients, which are on the same network segment, can continue to work.
    Can you suggest me where to check cluster behaviour configuration ?

    Cluster version: 3.1u4

    I have no log files because unfortunately it elapsed several time, but I'm going to reproduce same behaviour even if it's hard to suspend healthcare services.

    I read that "in.mpathd" by default chooses the defaultrouter as single test-target for probing (I defined /etc/defaultrouter file) so why
    I should turn off monitoring of my logical IP address ? What do you reference as logical address ? resources ?

  • How to use a custom servlet in iFS?

    Hi,
    I'm creating a custom servlet to download files from iFS to local drive. My question is where should I put the servlet class file, and how do I invoke this servlet from a ifs jsp file?
    I'm running iFS 1.1.9, with JWS web server.
    Thanx.

  • Referencing resources with {__DIR__}

    Hi All,
    somehow if I reference a resource (video) as following:
    var vidURL = "file:///c:/development/javafx/MyProject/videos/video1.flv";the resource loads no problem.
    If I use:
    var vidURL = "{__DIR__}/videos/video1.flv";I get an exception:
    FX Media Object caught Exception com.sun.media.jmc.MediaUnavailableException:
    Note: the package of the class is: com.mycomp.app; under src source folder which is at MyProject level
    I suppose it could be an issue of where I locate my resource.
    What is the way to reference resource from the code with relative path and where can I put my resources within a project directory layout ?
    Thanks.

    For God only knows what REAL reason, they dropped support for video (and sound and music) in JAR files in 1.3.
    The official pathetic excuse told in the JavaFX1.3 Migration Guide and FAQ is that "media files compress bad in ZIP (may actually increase in size) and it's makes the JAR file bigger..." /doh
    So, as of now, the choices you have are :
    - do streaming and play video live (that what's suggested in the Migration Guide).
    - stream video and save it locally on the 1st run and then play from disk.
    - extract locally at install time/1st run from JAR using plain good old Java I/O and then play from disk.
    Of course the later options would require the app to be signed as it involves writing on the client's computer

  • Resource name programatically

    I am trying to obtain the PXI resource name "PXI1Slot2" programatically.
    How to obtain object handle whch viGetAttribute() requires?
    viOpenDefaultRM (&rsrcHandle); returns ViSession.
    Is there a attribute to obtain the Slot number?
    int CVICALLBACK FindResources (int panel, int control, int event,
    void *callbackData, int eventData1, int eventData2)
    ViSession rsrcHandle;
    ViUInt32 numFound;
    char InstrDescriptor[256];
    ViFindList MyFindList;
    int i;
    int chassisNumber;
    switch (event)
    case EVENT_COMMIT:
    // First, open a VISA session.
    viOpenDefaultRM (&rsrcHandle);
    // Now, do an initial search. viFindRsrc returns the instrument descriptor
    // of the first instrument found and the number of total resources found.
    viFindRsrc (rsrcHandle, "?*PXI?*INSTR", &MyFindList, &numFound, InstrDescriptor);
    viGetAttribute (rsrcHandle, VI_ATTR_PXI_CHASSIS, chassisNumber);
    // When finished, close the VISA session.
    viClose (rsrcHandle);
    break;
    return 0;
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I am working to get something that would identify the existence of the PXI or PXIe, or lack of existence on the system where my app is running.
    This looks promising, but throws all sorts of error when I run it.
    First, let me say I have an app that runs on a PC, PXI or PXIe system. The PXI has an embedded controller, the PXIe has an MXI Express controller.
    I would like to have something that would verify the chassis that I have.
    So, I'm using the code from above:
    // First, open a VISA session.
    viOpenDefaultRM (&rsrcHandle);
    // Now, do an initial search. viFindRsrc returns the instrument descriptor
    // of the first instrument found and the number of total resources found.
    viFindRsrc (rsrcHandle, "?*PXI?*INSTR", &MyFindList, &numFound, InstrDescriptor);
    viGetAttribute (rsrcHandle, VI_ATTR_PXI_CHASSIS, &chassisNumber);
    // When finished, close the VISA session.
    viClose (rsrcHandle);
    viFindRsrc give an error "insufficient location information or the device ir resoure is not present in the system"
    viGetAttribute gives an error "the specific attribute is not defined or supported by the reference resource"

  • IFS-20010 : Unable to get service configuration properties

    Hi all,
    I am trying to connect to IFS using JDeveloper. I have coded a JSP which makes a call to my java class to connect.
    I know that I can connect from my machine because I can run a simple application from the command line to create
    a file in IFS.
    Anyway, I set up my classpath under Project Settings as follows (same as my classpath on command line):
    C:\oracle\JDeveloper\9ifs\settings;.;C:\DOCUMENT\jars\adk.jar;C:\DOCUMENT\jars\email.jar;
    C:\DOCUMENT\jars\repos.jar;C:\DOCUMENT\jars\utils.jar;C:\DOCUMENT\jars\xmlparserv2.jar;
    C:\oracle\ora90\jdbc\lib\classes12.zip
    When I run the jsp under JDeveloper I get the following output on my developer console.
    Should the classpath value be what I have entered for my classpath under Project Settings?
    Any help is appreciated,

  • Custom Agents in IFS

    Hi
    The iFS discussion forum area seems to have disappeared, and this seems to be the most suitable area to post the question. Can anyone supply me with example custom agents (not the example on OTN) that they have written. I am looking for an agent that manipulates data within the datafile, and also puts a copy of a data file into a different folder. Any examples would be appreciated.
    Many Thanks

  • What is IFS-68022: Message unavailable

    There is no message involved with this error. Why is it happening?

    If you're using any of the adk classes, you'll need to add the AdkUserResources
    resource bundle to your session.
    Localizer localizer = m_Session.getLocalizer();
    localizer.addExtendedResourceBundle("oracle.ifs.adk.resources.AdkUserResources");

  • Accessing resources from a WAR file.

    Do you guys know how a JSP is supposed to reference resources inside the WAR file? I have some gif files in an images folder at the top root of the WAR directory. I'm tying to access them like n the JSP with -
    SRC="./images/update_button.gif"
    And it is not working. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    dosteov

    Usually "./" at the beginning of a path is unnecessary, since "." means "current directory". Did you mean "../images/update_button.gif" instead?

  • Error while compling the custom agent

    I am trying to develop custom agent for ifs using jdeveloper. I have attached following .jar file with project.
    repos.jar,vbjorb.jar,release.jar,xmlparser2.jar, util.jar, tools.jar, adk_1081.jar, lclasess1.jar
    I am getting following error while compiling.
    Error: (50) constructor IfsAgent() not found in class oracle.ifs.agents.common.IfsAgent.
    Error: (86) method required, but value found.
    Can anybody help me to fix this error?
    Thanks
    Sanjay

    Looks like the call to your agent is missing some parameters.
    Here is the constructor for IfsAgent:
    IfsAgent(java.lang.String name, java.lang.String[] args,
    java.lang.String parameterTableSection, oracle.ifs.agents.manager.ServerManager manager)
    This is the description from the iFS Online Resources whitepaper section on creating a simple agent.
    The constructor for an Agent always contains these 4 arguments. The arguments are stored in the ServerManager definition file and are
    passed to the Agent class when it is instantiated at runtime.
    name is the name of this Agent.
    args are any custom arguments you want
    to pass to your Agent.
    sectionName identifies the section
    specfic to this Agent in the common
    ParameterTable. In practice, it is
    the name of this Agent.
    manager is the name of the ServerManager
    that hosts this Agent at runtime.
    I hope this helps.

  • How to get web pages opening within pages?

    Just wondering how this is done or implemented. I visited and
    researcehd several websites a while ago and observed that pages
    were opening in pages instead of loading a new page.
    For example: You go to a web page, the links are all above
    under the page banner or on the side like in a side bar or Nav bar
    and the content are on the right or the middle of the page.
    So when you click on a link the page opens within the same

    do this with Frames but I dont want to use frames, are there other

    Please explained or reference resources.
