Illuminated Keyboard Problems Solved

If you are having the problem where your illuminated keyboard is no longer working (the F keys give you the circle with a line through it), the solution is quite simple.
1. Turn the brightness on your laptop down to the minimum setting
2. Turn off all lights, or find a dark place
3. Now try the F keys... and it works.
It seems that the light sensor sometimes becomes stuck or something.
Keeping the powerbook running and finding a dark room re-sets it.
Even the brightness of the screen itself is enough to keep it stuck.
Hope this helps.

Not solved the problem for me. A PRAM reset fixes it when done in the dark, but as soon as the lights go on the disabled symbol comes back on the keypresses

  • 6080 Keyboard Problems - Solved

I have reported my problems with the keyboard of a 6080 generating spurious 4s,5s and 6s in a previous thread.
I have now gone two weeks without the problem happening, following the work of my local Nokia Care engineer, so I think it is safe to claim that the problem is solved.
The engineer told me that he did three things:
    1) Cleaned the inside
    2) Made sure all the key connectors were straightened up.
    3) Updated the firmware from V4.20 to V4.23
Which of these solved the problem, I can't say.
But it is good to be able to report a success, thanks to the engineer and support from others on these boards. Thank you all.

I would disagree with the software theory there, I know of no software error that systematically presses certain buttons.
It is more likely a hardware fault, but it happens when you are using it as the movement or even you holding it causes the hardware to move slightly.
Its been said before, and i'll say it now, Carphone warehouse engineers are not the best in their field.
Im know most of them are supposed to have In-House engineers but very rarely do and just send them off.
Try taking it to a different repair centre, try an independant, non branded network company as they are usually more reliable.

  • Illuminated keyboard

Can I replace my dv6 3071tx keyboard with an illuminated keyboard from another HP model? If so, part numbers or model # would be a great help if anyone knows.

    Hi,
No available part in the US and the UK part stores that means most likely upgrading the keyboard is not simple. You need to change the motherboard too because you need a place to plug all the lights. And this is very costly.
    Regards.

  • Keyboard problems out of the box with iPhone 3g

My iPhone 3g is showing strange keyboard behavior, typically starts when launching the SMS app.
The "P" and Backspace keys, the keys on the rightmost part of the touch area, are non-responsive. The issue will correct itself after 15 mins or so, but it's become very annoying.
I've made sure I'm not touching any other part of the screen as a possible cause. Showed it to and had three other iPhone users see what I see and they all agree it seems like a bug, just to confirm it's not me.
Took it to the Apple Store and of course the iPhone behaves when showing it to the Genius.
Anyone else experienced keyboard problems with 2.0 firmware?

Well, I took my 16GB iPhone 3g (white) back to the Apple Store today and the Genius looked it over -- said that's the first keyboard problem he's seen come in and mentioned that it was strange the "dead zone" on the touch screen was vertical since, according to him, most "dead zones" tend to be horizontal areas. He said the touch screen matrix is laid out in three horizontal bands on the screens.
Bottom line: he gave me a new working iPhone 3g.
He did mention that all returned iPhone 3g's are being sent directly back to the iPhone 3g engineering team for full "autopsies", not just sent back to factory for refurb. He said they want to fully diagnose and understand what defects are out there so as to solve the root cause moving forward.

  • Final K8N2P bootup problems solved...!

When I first built this system last week I experienced a really annoying bootup problem when booting into WinXP....the system would lock up with a blue screen *Machine Error* every single time....so I loaded the "failsafe" bios settings, booted into XP finally, and then began a process of elimination among the bios settings to try and determine which ones disagreed with WinXP so much....  (Oh, joy!)
To make a long and tedious story very short, I eventually found that I had to manually *disable* UDMA auto-config for my empty hard-drive slot of IDE0 secondary channel, and in combination with that had to *disable* UDMA auto-config for both of the DVD/CD-ROM devices I had then which were located at IDE1 primary and secondary. (All jumper settings for the drives were correct, btw, and the machine error manifested whether I set CS or M&S or, in the case of my WD boot drive, "stand-alone.")  Once I did that, I could boot fine from IDE0 prime autoconfigged @ UDMA5, and my two IDE1 devices would then boot with PIO4 set by the bios's PIO autoconfig. I had to set it up exactly this way to boot--doing one or the other as regards each IDE channel would result in the Machine Error that I didn't want see--so I had to do both, in other words, to boot.
In reading the forums here I  saw mention of ps2 keyboard problems, but replacing my PS2 kboard with a native USB kboard *did not* solve the problem or change its nature (had no problems with either native PS/2 or USB kboards.)  Then I read about config problems people had with Audigy2's, so I removed  my A2Zs card, refreshed the CMOS, and rebooted--right back into the Machine Error again (unless I manually setup the IDE channel UDMA autoconfig as described above, of course.)  So my A2Zs (0350) was not the cause of the problem.  I did the same thing with my TX4200 PCI RAID controller--again, without positive result.  Last, I disabled WinXp SP2's Data Execution Prevention to see if that might have been the cause--it was *not* (so I reenabled it with the OptIn policy.)  So by then I knew the problem was not caused by my keyboard, my A2Zs, DEP, or my PCI RAID controller--any one of which, of course, *might conceivably* have caused a resource conflict of some kind--so I had to to test out all of these avenues.
That done, I had a hunch and went out and picked up a couple of new DVD/CD-W drives (as described now in my SIG), and lo and behold, from the first attempt I could successfully boot into XP without the Machine Error that had defeated my best efforts at troubleshooting for all of last week--I could boot fine with all of the bios settings for IDE 0&1 UDMA and PIO set to "auto" without incident for the first time!  I was also a bit surprised to see that these new DVD/CD's run natively in UDMA 2--not PIO4 (multi-word DMA) as had both of my former CD-type drives on IDE1.
So the problem having been solved in this fashion I will make the following observation about the K8N2P (I'm running stock bios 1.3):  this board does not like *old crap* connected to it!....  Heh...  My former CD-type drives were scarcely two-years older than the drives I installed today (according to their tagged manufacturing dates), but even so my old drives were "old enough" it seems to not get along with my k8n2P system's resource allocation!  Installation of the new drives solved the last remaining problem that I had, I'm very glad to say.
Although I didn't have to, I also got rid of my old TEAC floppy drive--and replaced it with a USB HDD which is so quiet and unobtrusive I have to pinch myself to make sure it's there...
Finally, along the lines of "old stuff"  I did note that the board does not seem to recognize PS/2 devices using PS/2-to-USB adaptors of any description--so go native whether PS/2 or USB and you should be fine.
I'm certainly relieved--hope this account helps a few folks!

Did you by the way try with one of the old ones as the only optical on the IDE1 port , or have the opticals on IDE0 and harddrive on IDE1.
Some has had success in swapping it around if i remember correctly.
Thanks, syar....  I'm just relieved that everything is working as expected now as it was a bit of a bummer to have to go to a bootup workaround for a new system over something as routine as IDE autoconfig.
Those older drives, a Samsung CD-RW/DVD SM332 and a Lite-On LTR32123S CDRW, came out of my former nf2 (Chaintech 7njs) system--that the wife will inherit from My Most Beneficent Self (which of course was my excuse to build a new system)--and if I recall correctly it seems the combo presented some problems for me there which I finally solved by going to a cable select setting for them in the Chaintech.  So maybe it's just the particular combination of these drives in my case, or possibly something less than completely compatible optical-drive support from the nVidia IDE controller implementation...?  I didn't try swapping them on the channels, but I did try setting the IDE 0 secondary UDMA bios config to "auto" while disabling the UDMA auto-config for IDE1 prime and second--and still got the machine error, and vice-versa.  It does indeed seem to me as if these newer platforms are a bit pickier about what you hook up than maybe was the case in the past (with nf2 and circa core logic.)
Edit: Wanted to add as well that these new DVD/CDRW drives (manufactured mid '04) are *a lot* quiter in operation (aside from being generally faster.)  Spinning up, the old drives reminded me of a washing machine in the "spin" cycle...  I have to listen to even hear these--what a difference a couple of years can make, eh?

  • Keyboard problems with Enter, delete, backspace, and right/left arrows

In some applications, such as Yahoo and this message block right now !!, when composing a message, the arrow keys and delete, backspace keys become non responsive. Various ones will work on a random basis.
I am getting double "carriage returns" also. Maybe this is why in Omegle when I press ENTER, it will not post a chat message; it will bring up a scroll box and for me to post the comment, I have to use the mouse to click ENTER.
I have changed batteries in my keyboard, uninstalled /reinstalled Firefox. I have checked the above websites in Chrome and other browsers, and there are no problems.
This has happened before, I don't recall what the solution was or if it just went away.'''

  • G560 Keyboard Problem

In all my games, including browser based flash games, I've found a rather annoying keyboard problem. Whenever I hit a key, the computer believes I have hit a nunber key. If I only hit one key over and over, it cycles through numbers. So if I hit "W", the computer believes that "4" was hit. If i hit "W" again, it believes a "5" was hit, and so on and so forth. It appears that this issue was caused by a Windows Update. I did a system restore, which fixed the problem, but when I shut down, updates were installed, and when I booted up the next day, the issue has returned.
I am currently running games in compatability mode, and that seems to keep the problem at bay, but it's not a complete fix, as certain games do not function properly in compatability mode. I've called Windows, and posted on their forums, but they said to come here. Does anyone know what the permanent fix for this is? Has Lenovo released a fix?

it is actually a security program put in lenovos to prevent keyloggers from
getting your info on what you type into your computer. but to solve this problem,
go to start -> type in msconfig -> enter -> startup -> and uncheck GID
    Desktop Application -> restart.
what the program does is save everything you type as consecutive numbers.
That way people looking at the keyloggers won't be able to see what you
actually type in since they show up as consecutive numbers with no
distinguishable pattern to crack the code. that is why in some games everything
shows up as numbers even tho you type a letter.

  • Re keyboard problems

Has anyone had similar problems with their keyboard. At times the spacebar simply refuses to register and the only solution is to use an external keyboard.
I have tried to use the latest keyboard patches but my system advises they are not required and refuses to load them. This problem has gradually become worse over the last 2 months.
    lcf

    hi,
keyboard update is only for external aluminum keyboard to solve a waking-on-first-keypress issue.
if you space bar refuse to work, it is most probably a keyboard malfunction and you may need to replace it. you should see an Apple technician about this.

  • IOS 7, iPad 4: keyboard problems with Shift key

Since I have upgraded my iPad 4 to iOS 7 a few days ago the keyboard drives me mad: I did not experience the overall slowness of the keyboard as reported by so many others. Anyway, I reset my settings just to be safe. But the reset had absolutely no influence on my real problem which is as follows:
Whenever and wherever (each app) I type, it is just a matter of luck whether or not the keyboard will recognise me typing the Shift key in order to get capital letters - and there are many caps in German words because each noun must be in caps! In 70% of all cases iOS will just write my capital letters as lower-case ones because it just does not recognise me hitting the Shift key, especially when typing quickly. Under iOS 6 this problem did not exist. I am losing so much time fixing missing capitalisation in all my texts (I use iPad for business) and/or typing extra slow and hitting the virtual Shift key on the screen extra hard that there is absolutely no flow in typing. Everything is just slow, whacky and it drives me nuts! How can it be that the latest iPad 4 with so much CPU power cannot handle a simple thing as typing caps? I am also experiencing problem when using the wipe-up gesture to get umlauts on vowels. It is not as bad as with Shift, but also noticeable.
Is there any solution to this problem? It is a major impediment and I am even considering an iOS downgrade because it is basically killing my ability to work efficiently with my iPad. Otherwise I am kinda okay with iOS 7, but this is a real show stopper. I wonder why I found nobody else on the whole web mentioning this problem.

Thank you Habitoti for describing the necessary change to the way that we need to type on ios devices to avoid the capital letter problem.
Holding the shift key fractionally longer solves the problem. But why oh why would Apple require users to fundamentally change the way they touch type by introducing a different keyboarding protocol like this? It is most unlike Apple to have us now have to consciously think about how to touch type all over again.
Intuitive operating systems are what make Apple so great. This keyboard problem is definitely not intuitive and it is driving me crazy.
Apple, you need to change the time weighting on the shift key in iOs 7.04.
    Please, pretty please!

  • Problem solving expertise appreciated. What does a MacPro do in its initial booting phase?

My MacPro 3.1 (2008) with 20 Gb Ram does no longer want to boot. I checked the harddrive (startup disc), it is OK (my MacBook) boots from it. I checked the ram, it appears to be OK. When I push the power button the fan begins to work, red lights appear shortly on the RAM circuit boards and they go out again but then nothing happens. Monitor does not wake up, there is no start up chime, machine appear unresposive to any keyboard commands.
Anyone can tell what may be wrong, what the cause is why the MacPro does no longer want to boot and what could possibly be done about it?
So some Problem solving expertise and advice is higlhly appreciated. I really like to know what exactly does a MacPro do in its initial booting phase? Information that could bring life b to my well respected grand-old lady.

Conventional wisdom is that you get nowhere until you get the chime.
For that reason, the approved method is to remove everything that could possible be dragging down power and test the absolute minimum configuration, hoping to get the chime. Once it chimes, you slowly build it back up. adding one part at a time until you find something faulty or it "comes clean".
    Disconnect AC power and remove:
    graphics card
    All other PCIe cards
    All Hard drives
    All Optical drives
All RAM -- then check for the power light blinking
next step is to restore one pair of DIMMs and try for the chime.
    Then more DIMMs
    Then graphics card, etc.

  • Illuminated Keyboard w/ Vista 32-bit

I just finished using bootcamp to install Windows Vista 32-bit on my MacBook Pro. I have also installed the drivers on the OS X disk as well. The problem is that my illuminated keyboard won't turn off. It will brighten and dim with the F6 and F5 keys though. Why isn't it turning off if it can brighten and dim? The screen brightness ajustments are perfectly fine as well as the volume keys.

' I'm afraid that's the way it is on Vista! You can turn the brightness up and down, yes - and you can trun it down to "lowest" brightness - but if the drivers decide that it's dim enough in your environment to have the backlight turned on, then you cannot actually turn it off yourself.
' The drivers will turn the backlight off if the environment is bright enough - but you yourself are limited to adjusting brightness, not enabling or disabling the backlight.
' Sorry mate - that's just the way thing are at this point in the driver development!!!

  • Re: rollover keyboard problem with a Presario C769US

This Presario C769US  OS Win7 Home 32 bit works just fine except for 1 game that I play a lot away from home.  Like if I have a few hours to kill before a meeting starts.  This older games are simple to play using just the keyboard.  So I don't have to lug around cd/dvd's,  joysticks and manuals.
1 game Bio Menace requires certain keyboard cmd's to be entered during game play in order to turn the cheat menu on.  1st  C+A+T   then C+O+D  >  a box opens up and type in 91827 then hit enter.  (Here is were the Rollover cmd error starts)  I next press and hold J+I+M wait a 1/2 second then press space bar.   Then let up all 4 keys at the same time.  If timming is correct The cheat menu pops up.  I checked the keyboard with a keyboard testing prog.  When I press J+I+M everything works fine.  But holding J+I+M down and pressing space bar,  The space bar just doesn't get seen as been pushed.  This is the 2nd laptop that I got.  The 1st one an Acer one laptop had the same kind of keyboard problem.  Now my primary home computer is a Gateway laptop model MD2614U  OS win7 32 bit and that big old Toshiba M60 laptop (before the screen croaked)  is the one I carryed in my backpack.  Now the Gateway laptop and the Toshiba laptop both could handle the J+I+M then space bar cmd with no problems.    Is there any way to fix this rollover problem in the Presario laptop?

  • G566-130sa Keyboard problem

    Hi,
I have a G56-130sa laptop with a keyboard problem ... the 'L' key only works intermittently ... it sometimes takes a few hits to get it to work.
Does anyone know what the likely cause is? Is it economically feasible to have it repaired, or is it possible for a reasonably capable end user to fix or repalce the keybaord?
Any and all suggestions would be appreciated very much.

  • Probook 4530s keyboard problems

We have a probook 4530s that the keyboard has started randomly on it's own typing in caps and duplicating characters.  The caps lock is not on when this starts happening, and the user has a hard time getting it to stop.
Any suggestions for what is causing this?

I got my 4530s 2 months ago and the keyboard problems started right away. The keys that are used in gaming to direct my character were repeating causing my character to to be very eratic. As the keys spring back into place and the game was just updated, I thought the problem was in the game. After finding out that there was no problem in the game, I called HP and they sent a new keyboard. Problem solved? NO! The new keyboard was better, but still had the same basic problem AND I could see key repeats in MSWord. Called again, had trouble convincing the girl rep that I knew what I was talking about, but they sent another. Fixed?  NO! The new keyboard is slightly better, but the problem still exists. While typing this I experienced for the 1st time the caps issue. If there is a resolution, I hope they come up with it soon. This is very frustrating. F.Y.I.  I spent 30 years in the computer industry.

  • A different Yosemite keyboard problem

Like many others, I upgraded my Mac (a late-2013 Mac Pro) to Yosemite (10.10.2) and got a keyboard that doesn't work.  My problem is a little different though:
    - After booting, the keyboard and mouse work fine.
    - At some point, it just stops working.  The machine could have been sitting, doing nothing.  I might be typing or moving my mouse.  Suddenly, the keyboard and mouse have no impact.
    - At the moment the keyboard stops, ALL of my external USB drives disconnect unexpectedly.
    - I then go in via screen sharing.  The remote computer's keyboard (not on Yosemite) works just fine.   I restart and go again.
It could take anywhere from 20 min to 3 hrs before it happens again.  I can identify no trigger.
    I have done the following:
    - Reset the PRAM
    - Reset the SMC
    - Try the trick with plugging the keyboard into another computer.
    - Try the trick with plugging a thumb drive into the keyboard.
    - Try removing login items from the ID.  This has delivered unclear results.  I had gone for hours with one reduced configuration without a problem.  Then, as I was adding a login item back in, the mouse locked up.  I restarted as before, without that item.  Soon, the keyboard failed again.  Even with only one critical login item (which, I believe, helps manage color calibration for my Eizo monitor), it locks up.
    - Upgraded every bit of software I can find active.
I am trying two things now:
    - I have a USB hub from Monoprice.  I wonder if it is suspect.  I already have one problem with it not delivering power to portable drives.  I wonder if there are other flaky problems which could mess up all of USB on the machine.  We are trying to run with it disconnected.
    - I have a two-bay, removable drive case which now connects via eSATA-USB 3 adaptors.  One of these adaptors could be the issue.  Although, I know the last time the keyboard disconnected, the case was turned off (but the adaptors were still lit up).  Because we need access to this bay, we are running with one adaptor active at a time.
The machine worked perfectly under Mavericks.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.
