IMac 24 line-ine a lot of noise and no audio...

Hi guys!
I've a problem...i've tryed LineIn..and other utility but no luck. If i plug my xbox360 outpu or a mp3 output into the iMac linein's i obtain a terrible noise and a really really low sound....but for 2 times the audio worked fine...and at a certain point when i've streached the wires the noise was gone...but no is totally only noise...HELP

Hello Eidan
Welcome to Discussions
To prevent damage to your iMac's or xbox's audio system that cord should no longer be used if you find it has a short or the wrong end???
The Mac needs to have a Mini Stereo plug for input to it's jack, look at the one in the link below to compare the plug end with the one you have.

Note: Mini Stereo plug is segmented into three parts "Right/Left/common"

  • Lot of noise from laptop audio output

    I'm getting a lot of noise from the audio output of my Macbook Pro (early 2008) OS 10.8.5 when I connect an external firewire 800 drive that uses a power cord. I get more of the same noise when I connect an external video monitor. The noise is a digital hashy and whiney sound that modulates sometimes as what on the screen changes. If I use my Focusrite Scarlett interface the noise is amplified to the point that I can't work. The noise starts when the drive's power cord is plugged in. If I work off a pocket USB drive there is no noise. This is my work around for now. I'm using a power strip that has noise filtering. I have 2 different studios and I get the same noise in both. I've done a lot of trouble shooting and have narrowed the problem down to connecting a drive with a power cord to the computer. I have tried different drives too with the same result. Is there any hope of fixing this?

    Can't say I've ever had any noise when starting the unit up over optical - if your DAC is designed for stereo only then it may be causing noise by attempting to play the 5.1 startup video's audio bitstream which is dolby digital encoded not stereo.

  • A few months ago my fan started making a lot of noise and is getting really hot. I've taken steps to prevent overheating, but nothing has changed. Is it a battery issue?

    I've had the computer for 2 1/2 years and it started getting really noisy about 4 months ago. I'm using rulers to elevate the computer above the surface of the table to prevent overheating, but its still getting really hot and the fan is still making a lot of noise on and off. Could this be a battery issue?

  • Reduce background noise and increase audio volume?

    Hi!
    I have a movie with very bad static/background noise and low volume. I've been playing around the NewBlue cleaner AB, but I have yet to get a satisfactory results. Any hints/tips that might help me out? Or is it not powerful enough to get a good result?
    Also, I've noticed the volume becomes even lower after running the filter.
    How do I adjust the "clip volume" in edit effects past 6dB? If this is not possible, why?
    Thank you!

    Well, increasing the audio volume is easy. But doing it without also increasing your background noise is much harder. In fact, unless it's of a specific frequency that you can filter out, it's pretty much impossible. That's why a lot of Hollywood movies and TV shows have to "loop" or re-record dialogue for a scene if there was too much wind or background noise.
    The easiest way to raise a clip's audio level is to click on it and select Audo Gain, and then increase the gain level.
    This, though, won't get rid of the background noise.

  • My CD drive is making lots of noise and ejecting CDs

    Help! My CD drive is rejecting every disc I try to insert. I'm hoping this doesn't mean my drive is failing... any suggestions? Thanks!

    Well, since it is acting up, it could be failing. Not sure what kinds of home tests
    one could to do tell for sure; nor do I know if any system logs would be generated
    that could tell a user or a tech if there is a related hardware problem behind this.
    But it may need to go into a shop for a inspection and estimate on replacement.
    That may cost you a minimum shop rate, and hopefully they can tell you. Since
    the iBook series is not easy for a user to gain access to or upgrade internal parts
    a competent repair company would likely be the answer to fixing a failed part; or
    if you have some skills and can understand detailed instructions, there are online
    guides on how to replace an optical drive as well as hard disk drives in iBooks.
    The tedium and time, plus worries of having a small wire break, keep people out.
    A simple problem involving a little time and a new part, installed professionally, is
    often best done where they know the product well, and guarantee their work.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How to remove ticking noise and doing audio effects?

    I have a snippet of code I got for generating delay effects. After editing the appropriate things, I ran the application. It produces delays but (if i hear it correctly), the delayed sounds do not fade. It sounds like a mix of sounds. Does it depend on feedback? And there's this ticking noise accompanying the output. I just want to know how "ticking sounds" are produced (and probably how to remove them) and how to produce a correct delay.Here's my program.
    public void delayProcessor(double[] data, int sampleRate, int delayInMs){
            //initialization
            int delayOffset = (int) ((delayInMs * sampleRate * 1) / 1000);
            double[] buffer = data;
            int k = 0;
            delayBufferSize = data.length + delayOffset;
            delayBuffer = new double[delayBufferSize];
            // Index where dry sample is written
            writeIndex = 0;
            // Index where wet sample is read
            readIndex = data.length;
            for (int i=0; i < data.length; i++)
                double inputSample =  data;
    double delaySample = delayBuffer[readIndex++];
    double outputSample = (inputSample * dryLevel) + (delaySample * wetLevel);
    // make sure output is in range
    if (outputSample > 1)
    outputSample = 1;
    else if (outputSample < -1)
    outputSample = -1;
    // Store in output sample
    data[i] = outputSample;
    // Calculate feedback
    inputSample += (delaySample * feedbackLevel);
    // make sure input is in range
    if (inputSample > 1)
    inputSample = 1;
    else if (inputSample < -1)
    inputSample = -1;
    delayBuffer[writeIndex] = inputSample;
    writeIndex++;
    // Update indices
    readIndex %= delayBufferSize;
    writeIndex %= delayBufferSize;
    My sample rate depends on the user's desired setting but I'm currently testing on 11025. It's also mono, 16-bits if that information helps.
    Thanks in advance! :D

    Hi. Updated my code from the one above to this:
    public void echoProcessor(double[] samples, double decay, int sampleRate){
         int delayOffset = (int) (10 * sampleRate)/1000;
         int delayBufferSize = samples.length + delayOffset;
         double[] delayBuffer = new delayBuffer[delayBufferSize];
         int writeIndex = 0, readIndex = delayOffset;
         int i =0;
         for(i = 0; i < delayBufferSize; i++)
              delayBuffer[i] = 0;
         for(i = 0; i < samples.length; i++){
              double oldSample = samples;
              double delay = delayBuffer[readIndex];
              double newSample = oldSample + (decay * delay);
              delayBuffer[writeIndex] = outputSample;
              readIndex++;
              writeIndex++;
              if(readIndex == delayBufferSize)
                   readIndex = 0;
    But I still get the continuous ticking sound but now I hear the sound output which somehow produces an echo.
    The double[] samples has a length of 512 then I convert it to bytes before writing to the SourceDataLine. Any ideas?

  • Printer cartridges constantly realigning - a lot of noise

    OFFICEJET 7000 wide format:  almost every time i print the printer realigns the cartridges (or at least that's what i think it's doing). it makes a lot of noise, and to be honest, is starting to really irritate me. i use HP cartridges, and while i am not constantly printing, i do print a lot throughout the day. any way to fix this?
    also curious to see how i can get an alarm when my ink is running low. i run on windows7, 64-bit.
    any help?
    thanks~

    Hi @FZR
    I would like to help you with the noise you are hearing from your Deskjet 1510.Please post back with the answers to the following questions;
    Is the printer on a flat surface?
    How long has the printer been noisy for?
    Did anything change around the time the noise started? (ie. paper jam, error message, printer was dropped/bumped, power surge)
    Are there any blinking lights, or error messages on the printer?
    When was the last time that the cartridges were changed?
    If you make a blank copy, when do you hear the grinding noise?
    If you open up the printer do you see any broken parts?
    When opening up where the cartridges go, do they move freely?
    Are the cartridges installed correctly? (ie. cartridges are level and not popping up).
    Perform a hard reset. With the power on remove the power cord from the back of the unit, and then the wall outlet. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds (drains the excess power from the printer). Plug the power back into the wall outlet, and then the printer.
    Are you still getting the clicking noise after this?
    I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Why is my iMac's CPU fan making a lot of noise?

    Hello!
    My 27" iMac (late 2009) is making a lot of noise for the last few months. The noise doesnt occur when you start up, but after you do something what is not really intensive for the computer suddenly the CPU fan is going up to about 4000 rpm. I have tried resseting the PRAM and the SMC but it won't help. I have inserted an image so you can take a look for yourself!
    Kind regards,
    Emiel

    Try resetting the iMac SMC and PRAM reset again, this time do each reset 2x. On occasion the first time does not work, but if it continues to be noisy then you probably have a mechanical problem and the fan may need replacing.

  • Imac is extremely hot and makes a lot of noise.

    I have am iMac of mid 2010. But I've seeing that from a month ago it have slowed its performance, and when I open three or four desktops it starts heating a lot on the top, making a lot of noise, I guess coming from the fans. However, before you could put the palm of your hand and you could resist it, now its too hot. How I can I solve this issue? Thanks for your help!

    Not getting into the OP's temp details for the moment (they are very hot, especially the drive), but as far as I know there are now no guaranteed adware free sites to download iStat Pro from. The Apple download site links to the long defunct iSlayer/Bjango. The OP may have installed adware from the iStat Pro download.
    For free programs, the best is to offer Temperature Monitor, although it won't show fan speeds without getting the paid Hardware Monitor. (Just noticed TM is no longer being supported by Bresink. The download is still available and probably should work OK on all but the very latest machines.)
    Hardware Monitor is still being supported. Latest version 4.98. But even there may not support latest Macs.

    My HP officejet pro 8600 plus, makes a lot of noise while printing, ink levels are ok, and printing is ok.  it was makiing lines before but not anymore

    Hi,
    Check first if the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet.
    Check if the carriage is moving freely and there is no obstructions inside the unit.
    Clean the paper rollers once.
    See if doing these helps you

  • Network line noise and BT broadband

    It's worth a mention, a pal fo mine recently "expanded" his home network, using the proprietry mains network adapters that you can buy, to use your house wiring to expand your network. His caused him a lot of problems with noise, and once disconnected problems went away. Just a heads up, if you're using them.

    Powerline adaptors are controversial devices. Your friend has just discovered the reason for the controversy. They work basically by sending relatively powerful radio signals through the house wiring. It is the unwanted radiation of these signals that caused his noise problems.
    The problem with these devices is that, under strictly controlled laboratory test conditions, they comply with the relevant radio interference standards, and are awarded the appropriate accreditations (CE mark, etc.). When they are installed in the average house, it is often a very different story. The wiring in every house is different, and will have different effects, sometimes drastic, in terms of radiating radio interference.
    PLC (Power Line Communication) for the transport of high speed data is a technology that's pushing its luck - it works fine for low speed applications like remote meter reading, but it has a whole host of interference-related problems when used for computer networking. This is well known to the manufacturers of Powerline Adaptors, but they sell them anyway on the basis that they work in "Most" cases. Manufacturers interpretation of "Most" may differ significantly from ours, however.
    If Powerline Adaptors work for you, and don't cause any problems for you or your neighbours, then OK. On the other hand, if your house wiring radiates any perceptible interference from these adaptors, dump them, and use the better alternatives - WiFi or ethernet cabling. (BT Vision decided to supply these devices as part of their package. They may have since come to regret this, given the potential for service problems and unhappy customers).

  • IMAC fan is making a very loud noise

    Hello,
    Does somebody has similar problem?
    I switch on the iMac and the fan is making too much noise that I can not hear the sound on the computer and the there is a lot of air coming out.
    It is on all the time and I already open a SR with the apple care to repair it, I left the computer for a few days in the apple center but they do not fix it, apple do not care about it.
    I have this problem since I bought the iMac.
    Sometimes it is no making noise it is quite.
    I read that some iMacs have this problem and Apple did not do anything to sort this problem, at least mine was not fixed.
    I bought the Apple care but it is useless because Apple does not want to fix this problem, they said that they were not able to reproduce the problem.
    Any help let me know, please.
    Thank you.
    Maria

    It can be caused because of different reasons: a process which is eating your CPU, a defective fan, a problem with the SMC, etc. First, reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    If it doesn't work, run Apple Hardware Test > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509 This program will allow you to diagnose problems with the hardware of your computer, although this may fail and it may not show anything. When you run Apple Hardware Test, make sure you tick the box to run an extended test. Finally, if you see an error at the end, copy it here and copy it in a piece of paper and take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller, because it indicates that there's a hardware problem with your iMac and it must be fixed
