Sony SR7 Mpeg support

Hi
Two question:
I Captured footage through a camcorder using Edius and a Canopus capturing card. It saved my file as a .avi on a pc... I now want to open it in FCP but it only gives me sound and no image... When I try to render it it tells me I ned to get the right codec... Can somebody help with this...
2) I have a Sony SR 7E hardrive camcorder, and I took some footage with it in SD mode(mpeg2)... When I import this footage into FCP it gives me image but no sound... Again some advice would be great!!!

1. Sounds like the material was captured with a propriatary codec. If you do not know what it is or it is not available for the Mac, you'll need to either convert the material using the PC to something the Mac can edit. Quicktime DV (NTSC OR PAL) is pretty standard.
2. The file is in an unsupported mpeg2 format. you need to convert it to an editable format. Many people use 'Mpeg Streamclip' for this purpose.

  • Sony A330 Raw Support

Is it possible to find out the timeline for when support for the Sony A330 raw support will be added to Lightroom? I thought it would be the same as the A300, but I keep getting an unsupported message when trying to import.

The Sony A330 is a new model that was only announced mid May 2009, which explains why it isn't currently supported. Whether it is supported in the upcoming Camera Raw 5.4 and Lightroom 2.4 updates is not something only Adobe can comment on.

  • Image quality issues - Sony Handycam (MPEG) to iMovie / iDVD

I have read through dozens of posts but the recommendations vary widely and am hoping I can get some guidance specific to my situation. The image quality I am getting from home movies I edit in iMovie11 and burn to DVD in iDVD are far inferior to the original material.
I have a Sony DCR-TRV17. This camera is a little over 10 years old. It is a miniDV with 500 lines resolution, 680K gross pixels and uses MPEG. While not HD, the image quality is exceptional. The DVDs I used to create using my Sony Viao likewise looked fantastic. But the results I get from iMovie and iDVD are on par with VHS -- very poor, especially in low-light.
I hope the issue is just the settings when I import, edit (iMovie) and share to iDVD. I generally use the default settings, and often alternate settings don't seem to be selectable. It also sounds from other posts like iMovie sacrifices quality for reduced file size and increased simplicity? I would appreciate help with the following:
    1) Please list the settings I should be adjusting from default when I  a) import, b) edit in iMovie11 and c) share to iDVD and burn -- and the recommended settings for each
    2) Is there a process I should be trying? Should I be creating test DVDs using different settings at each stage and then reviewing various setting combinations to find the best one?
    3) I will most probably buy an HD camcorder very soon, and plan to burn to Blue Rays. I have no problem with going ahead and buying Final Cut and an external drive to burn Blue Rays. Should I just go ahead and do it and get away from iMovie / iDVD entirely. Will Final Cut solve this issue for my old miniDVs without a whole lot of hair pulling? Or will I still have to tinker with a bunch of settings or convoluted processes to get it "right." I never had to tinker with settings on my Viao. Really expected Mac software to be more user friendly…
Thanks very much for any help or advice!

On Import you could try unchecking Optimize video and choose Full Size. Your disk space however will get eaten up incredibly quickly choosing these settings as each hour of video = 40GBytes of disk space. So be forewarned about how big those files will expand as they come off the MiniDV tapes.
Another thing you will immediately see a difference in is how you move files from iMovie to iDVD. Share to iDVD while named in an intuitive way, is NOT the best way to get good quality DVDs out of iMovie. Instead you want to Share to Media Browser. Choose the Large Size setting. Then quit iMovie. Open iDVD, click the Media button, the Movies button. Find your project listed under the iMovie star icon and drag it into the iDVD project. Burn the Disc and see if you get a higher quality disk by Sharing to Media Browser instead of Share to iDVD.
If you choose a Blu-Ray burner, also get a copy of Roxio Toast. The encoding to Blu-ray that Toast provides will be top notch and prevent you from making mistakes as the recordable Blu-ray disks are more expensive than DVDs. So every mistake will be expensive.

  • Sony nex 6 support?

hello, i have a sony nex 6 camera. i would like to know if the latest photoshop of lightroom supports this camera and its RAW file - ARW?
If not, what do you recommend i do? i want to avoid having to compress the images, if that would reduce quality.
    Thankyou for your help.

    Yes.
It was first supported in Lightroom 4.2 and Camera Raw 7.2 (which is compatible with CS6 and CC)

  • Sony NEX C3 Support

Just picked up a Sony NEX-C3, got it home only to find that iPhoto'11, Aperture 3 and OSX 10.7 doesn;t support the ARW RAW format it uses.
I know this camera is relatively new to the market (2-3 weeks old), but how long should I expect to see Apple update their RAW list?
Awesome camera, just a shame I can't use any of the software on my Mac to edit them other than the bundled Sony software

As we're just users like yourself there is no way anyone here can know when a particular camera's RAW format will be supported. You can use Aperture->Provide Aperture Feedback to alert Apple to your needs.
In the meantime you could convert the RAW files to DNG and import those. Keep the original RAW's safe someplace for when the format is supported

  • Sony i.LINK support

I have a Sony MiniDV camcorder and I need software that can capture/edit the video via the i.LINK connection.  Do either of the new versions of Premiere Elements or Pro support this anymore?

Adobe has removed the DV Camcorder and HDV Camcorder choices from Premiere Elements 13. You will have to check with the Adobe Premiere Pro Forum to learn what is going on with Premiere Pro.
This morning PRE_help posted a link to a very interesting Adobe document on workarounds in Premiere Elements 13 for the removed DV Camcorder and HDV Camcorder choices.

Please let us know if that works for you.

  • Sony a55 raw support

    Hi,
Does anybody know hen I should expect iPhoto to support raw images from my new sony a55? seems rather odd as the NEX cameras has similar software and formats so i guess it must be a simple version number bump. Am I looking at a new version of iPhoto or a change to the OS, does the 10.6.5 upcoming build offer any hope?
    Thanks,
    Gerard

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
No one knows, I'm afraid, outside of Apple.
iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback and let them know you want it.
rather odd as the NEX cameras has similar software and formats so i guess it must be a simple version number bump.
Not at all. The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Therefore the Raw for every camera model needs to be added individually.

  • Sony alpha 200 support

I thought I had the problem licked. OS 10.4.11 iphoto 7.1.3 When I try to import raw files they show up but can't be placed in the library. JPEG files are recognized and place in the library. I don't have any problems with raw files on my mac book pro 10.4.11 iphoto 7.1.3. They load into the library. Does Sony support the 200 on a G4? Any ideas?

  • Where is the Sony XZ1S C6916 support page?!?! Has Sony stopped support for this device?

    Hello community,
Im new to sony community so please take it easy on me. I was able to access support information from sonys own xperia z1s support page. But as of last night, that page is no longer existent and any searches for C6916 redirect me to the Z1 support page with no information on Z1S. Has sony stopped supporting this device?

I wouldn't like to say as the Z1s is a T-mobile specific locked phone and may have security features in place to only allow network signals via their firmware

  • Sony mobile warranty support feedback

I need to share with you that recently my phone went back from warranty repair.
And I need to say I can see a huge upgrade in terms of the service and customer support.
Everything went well and the most important - very fast!
As I remember from the past it was about a month or even 2 before my phone went back in the past (first Z model).
Now it was like 1 week + everything was fixed!
    Incredible upgrade.
Thank you Sony service center Poland in Wroclaw.
I can see Sony is doing much better in terms of software (except timing here, but quality is better) and service support.
Even first Z is receiving Android 5. Z series is receiving overall a good treatment, well deserved.
For sure I will stick with this brand because of it, can't wait for new curved camera
Once again, thanks a lot Sony mobile.

Glad to hear it, I wish you luck for the future

  • Sony EX1R MPEG-2 Long GOP

    Dear Apple,
you are a fan for all your Apple products, recently I bought a SONY camera EX1R MPEG-2 Long GOP CODEC.
I'm in love IMOVIE to its simplicity, unfortunately does not handle movies Sony EX1R, Final Cut but it works fine.
I was wondering if you're planning to read this format in IMOVIE
    future version?

There is no one from Apple here. This is a user to user forum. I suggest you provide feedback to Apple by clicking iMovie/Provide Feedback within iMovie.
    A couple of thoughts...
It seems a bit of a mismatch to pair a $7,000 camcorder with a $15 editing app, but I agree with you. iMovie is a pleasure to edit in.
Since you are likely to have Final Cut Pro installed, you should be able to import from this camera into ProRes422 using FCP. iMovie 11 can edit ProRes 422 (but only if Final Cut Pro or Logic Studio is installed), so you might try editing in iMovie that way. I base this on hearsay since I do not own Final Cut Pro or a $7,000 camera.
    Good luck.

  • MPEG support

interMedia Video supports a Compression format of MPEG according to table C-1 of the documentation, although it refers to this as 'MPEG Still Image'.
I'm no expert on MPEG and so I tried picking an average MPEG off the web and storing it in ORDSYS.ORDVIDEO. This didn't work, although AVI files etc seemed to.
So, my question - is there something wrong with the MPEG I tried or does 'MPEG Still Image' mean something other than normal 'MPEG'. If MPEG isn't supported, do Oracle intend to support this soon? (as this seems to be a popular format!)
    Thanks
    Jason.

We do not support MPEG Video at all. We support MPEG Audio, though. 'MPEG Still Image' is a type of compression formats that can be applied to QuickTime movies. It is not the type of MPEG you are expecting (such as *.mpg or *.mpeg).
Even though interMedia doesn't natively support MEPG Video, you can still upload and retrieve MPEG. interMedia won't understand it - this means that you can't use some methods such as setProperties().
I don't know how you stored your 'average MPEG', but as long as you simply try to store and retrieve the file, it should work fine.
