IMac OSX 10.6.8 Windows 7 HP M1319f printing issue
Windows won't print file from the queue ( file stays in the windows 7 printer queue...nothing prints out ..no error..no pause ..no holds )
Hey there
New to Mac. Followed the instructions to setup file sharing and printer sharing on mac 10.6.8 and windows 7. File sharing works flawless.
I am not getting any error when I am printing from the mac. In my windows 7 box under printer options I can see the file in the printer queue.
It stays in the queue for 2-3 minutes and then disappear and nothing prints out.
Any idea what this could be?
I have used smb://servername(ip)/printername instead of smb://homegroup/servername(ip)/printername
Used the GutenPrint driver for HP 1300 series from the printer driver menu.

HP OfficeJet 2544 Windows 8.1 Printing Issue
Hi there,
I am having a frustrating problem with my HP OfficeJet 2544. It happens all the time if I want to print anything more than one or two pages, and it only happens to me on my Desktop PC (i.e. my wife's laptop doesn't experience the issue).
What is happening is this: I send a document (multiple pages) to the printer, and then after the first page or so, I get a Windows 8 error message popping up saying the document couldn't print. The printer then spits out whichever page it is currently printing, usually half printed. If I want to print a multi page document, I have to print it one page at a time. I can't even send it to the printer in groups of 2 or 3 pages!
The printer is connected wirelessly, but I don't think it is a wireless issue. We have good strong signal in our house, and in any case, if it was a wireless connection issue my wife would have the same issue, which she does not.
I thought there was some bug in my Windows 8.1 installation, so I did a clean reinstall. This did not fix the issue. I have also tried reinstalling the drivers (did not work either) and clearing out the Print Spooler folder (again, no luck).
The only thing I can think of is that a while back the HP Update program said there was a Firmware update for the printer, which I installed. But if this was the problem, I imagine it would be affecting my wife's Laptop too?
I am getting fed up with the issue, and as I am doing a part-time degree I have to print multi-page documents from time to time! Does anyone have any ideas?Hello @SamuelH82
I have some ideas that come to mind when I read through your post about the printing issues you have solely from your computer, as the other computer works find with the printer.
The printer hardware proves to test out alright, as the other computer does function fine with it.
I would suggest first running the Print and Scan Doctor. This diagnostic tool will check for any conflicts that could be causing the issue. The tool will show you a report at the end. If there was a problem that the tool could not fix, you will notice it in the results. This alone could help fix the problem.
Also, try printing from other programs. Do they all appear to have the same problem?
Disable any firewalls and anti-virus' temporarily. Try printing again to see if that helped.
How far is the printer from your computer, and what are in between them that could cause interference? Having the computer and printer too close could cause disconnections.
Let me know the results thus far and your findings.

Adobe Reader X Windows 7 (64) Printing Issue
When attempting to print, either by clicking the print button, pressing Ctrl + P, or selecting File - Print, Adobe reader closes. No print dialog ever appears.
I do not have this issue with other software printing.

I cannot get my iMac OSX 10.5.2 to connect and print on canon mf4412. I installed UFRII_V224_MacOSX_uk_EN driver but to no avail. iMac doesn't recongnize the printer and throws client connect error. I tried the printer on Win XP & works fine.
Can somebody please help me resolve this issue?

Cannot Print to a Windows 8 shared Printer
I have a home network of Windows 8 as a file and Print Server connected to 2 Windows Laptops and a Macbook Air. I have a HP Laserjet attached to the Win 8. When I added the printer on the Mac, it installed the required software. Now, when I try to print from the Mac, I get a msg saying that holding for authentication. On entering the details, the printer dialog box still says holding for authentication.

Printer - HP Laserjet.This is a very common problem. I encountered this using an HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus printer which was USB connected to a Windows 7 SP1 machine. It was shared to all users using Windows print sharing. Bidirectional file sharing between Windows and iMac 27 running OS X 10.8.5 worked fine. Windows 7 was configured for workgroup sharing, not homegroup or domain-based sharing. This is the simplest, most basic level of sharing in a cross-platform situation.
On the Mac, I installed the HP OS X drivers. After driver installation, the printer model was visible in the System Preferences>Print & Scan>Add Printer dialog.
After adding it the network shared printer on the Windows PC was visible from the Mac and I could check print status, toner levels, etc. However upon trying to print, it would hang in the Mac print queue with the message "on hold (authentication required)".
In my case the solution was pressing the refresh button on the print queue, which ONLY THEN displayed a login authentication screen. It was defaulting to my Mac admin login which (maybe in the goal of visual simplicity) was not shown.
I changed the login to Username: guest, Password: guest, and it printed fine.
This is extremely frustrating, as it took me hours to find this. I see many, many other discussion threads where this is likely the problem. Some of them struggled with this problem for days. This activity is in the COMMON PATH of a large % of users. It is not a fringe or rare activity or an "edge case".
Ideally Mac OS should just transparently handle this. Lacking that, the build-in help documentation should cover it. Lacking even that, at least an Apple KB article should cover it. Lacking even that, if the authentication dialog was not suppressed but popped up by default, at least it would point some users in the right direction.
As it is, not a single one of those things were done, and many people continue to hit this over, and over, and over. It is an embarrassing situation. There are 80,000 Apple employees. If just one of them spent a few minutes to write a KB article about this, it would help a lot.
There are likely other sub-cases which could cause the same error message. You don't want an excessively broad, poorly-worded KB article which implies there's a single solution to a given error. However the problem is nothing has been written or done to address this, and it's apparently been causing users problems for years. -
My desktop IMac OSX 10.6.8 : IMovie '11: Trying to upload a home movie clip from my Panosonic camera model PV-DV203D. I've had this camera several years, and used it with Windows desktop. Now trying to work with my Mac. I have a USB cable, both ends fit, but iMovie '11 does not recognize it. Is there a driver fix for this?
What kind of Mac to you have? This camera is a tape based DV one that connects best with firewire and I cannot tell if your Mac has firewire. If your mac *does* have firewire, get a camcorder firewire cable and try again.
ETA: Oops, I am pretty sure that all the "desktop iMacs" have firewire, so you should be good to go. You will probably need a cord that goes from FW800 to your camcorder. -
I can't open almost any app on my iMac (OSX Lion 10.7.4). Every time I attempt to do so, the affected app "unexpedtely quits", showing a window (sort of expanded dialog box) with the log history, wich form a complete report wich is said to be sent to Apple. Despite that this window has a "restart" button, I haven't been able to go any further from this point, as it repeats the process again and again, impeding me to use the affected app.
This has get to a critical point, as it is afecting apps like iTunes (especifically when I turn to the iTunes Store from within te app), MacApp Store, Software Updates (I can't update anything, given this problem) and many other apps, including Aperture 3, Fusion 4, integrated Dictionary and Wikipedia, as I've been able to verify.
As far as I'm concerned, it hasn't affected apps like Office, Vectorworks, Pixelmator, iDraw, Quick Note...
Can anybody help me on this matter?

IMac OSX 10.5.8 Strange Boot Behavior
Hello All,
I've got an Issue with my 2007 Imac. I've been struggling with it for almost the entire day and night, and after trying every trick I've found online, I can't get anywhere. Incoming Wall-O-Text, apologies, but I want to be as detailed as I can.
So what happened before it all went down was... I was poking around trying to free up disk space, going through every major directory and analyzing its size. I poked around in a lot of hidden and system files, but I was very careful not to modify or delete any of these. The only files I deleted were in the following directories:
Note: I did not delete entire directory, just specific files I've named
/Applications/World of Warcraft/...
I deleted some old patch files and installer files
/Users/my_username/Movies...
I deleted some old video files
/Private/Var/Folders/Dy/Dy3Jj8iy2eE8iGh3ej/Tmp...
There were two large Screenflow files here, I deleted them. Also deleted a handful of other small files. These small, obscurely named files are the only ones I'm worried I shouldn't have deleted. Might have been careless, but they were in a temp directory right?
Only other thing I did was give myself R/W permissions to some folders that were locked to me, for the purpose of checking their size. Some of these included the Spotlight directory and other system folders. But once again, no modifications done here except the permissions.
Shortly after strange things began happening. My Google Chrome Window turned to a white screen. I could press back, forward, refresh, but nothing appeared in the window. I closed Chrome. I started Itunes and it failed to open. I tried to open it again, same result: crashed, critical error, etc. I didn't pay much attention to the error message unfortunately. I decided to do a quick reboot...well my OS never booted back up.
It got stuck on the grey screen with the Apple logo with the little circle underneath it, thinking. And it just sits there, for about two minutes... and then screen flashes black and it restarts itself. Apple chord sound plays, and back to the grey screen with Apple logo and circle. For two minutes, then black again, Apple chord, etc. etc. etc.
The process continues to repeat by itself. I let the process run for almost an hour before I gave up on it fixing itself.
System Specs:
2007 Imac, OSX 10.5.8, 20inch, 2.4ghz core 2 duo, 1gb ram, 250gb hd
I have the Install DVD and system reads it fine.
Since then I've been scouring these forums and others, trying most solutions I've found, such as:
Holding 'D' for hardware check (comes back clean)
Running Disk Utility from boot DVD (Verify Permissions, Repair Permissions, Verify Disk, and Repair Disk: ALL come back clean)
Resetting PRAM (held for 4 dings)
Resetting the SMC
Verbose Mode (It loads and I get to see some text, but still hangs for two minutes and restarts)
Safe Mode will NOT work, system hangs at same spot like always then restarts
Single User Mode (Loads the text like Verbose. I ran fsck -fy a few times, didn't change anything. I'd like to explore more commands in this mode)
DiskWarrior (First time through, graph produced 34% errors or whatever. I did a repair and rebuild. It executed fine. I Graphed a second time, it came up with less than 1% errors. Repaired and Rebuilt again successfully. I even used the 'Scavenge' mode. After all of this, boot still hangs and restarts)
Drive Genius (I executed everything under the 'Repair' tool. Twice. Came back clean both times)
Tried booting with various configurations of USB devices plugged-in / not plugged in
After all this, The machine behaves exactly like it did when the problem first happened, no change.
Things I haven't tried:
Target disk mode with another Mac (Don't have access to one unless I go way out of my way)
Reset NVRAM? (Can't get it to work, it just hangs like normal)
Some advanced Scripting in Single User Mode (Since this mode seems to work for me, maybe I can get something working here)Saw on some other site "try booting with "-x -f -v" Not sure what these do or how to do them
I don't have a backup even remotely recent, shame on me.
The strange thing that seperates my case from most others I've seen, is that I'm not having any errors in my disk checks and cleanups. And my DVD reads just fine. Most people are coming with errors after installing updates, or they can't boot from DVD, or getting "unrecoverable disk" errors.
For me, everything supposedly is in working order, but obiously it isn't. I'm still failing to see the culprit here.
One interesting thing is that in both Single User Mode and Verbose Mode, the last lines I see before It hangs are

AppleYukon2: RxRingSize <= 1024, TxRingSize 256, RX_MAX_LE 1024, TX_MAX_LE 768, ST_MAX_LE 3328
I've seen other threads where people have almost these exact lines in their startup before stalling. Someone mentioned the hang could have something to do with these lines...

whatever lines come immediately after these.
OR
It could be something completely unrelated. Who knows.
Thats all I can think of right now, I'm exhausted. I'd appreciate any and all help. I can't afford to lose the data on this machine

Firstly IF I have an un-bootable install, why would it suddenly become bootable if I used it externally rather than internally?
Anyways I tried to Create Image from my Macintosh HD and save it to external, and got this error:
"Unable to Create: input/output error"
This happened twice. I am about to use a different external HD, one which also has more space.

I did read through the links you supplied. In the first link there is a giant list of all the files the archive function backs up. It backs up a lot, but not quite everything. If it backed up everything, they could just say "everything".
The directory I'm concerned with is the /Applications one. It seems the only things backed up in this directory are specific Apple apps, for exapmple:
/Applications/Chess.app
/Applications/Clock.app
/Applications/DVD Player.app
/Applications/Extras/BlastApp.app
I have many many GB worth of other apps I'd love to be able to load back up, rather than spend hours re-installing them.
But I will try to use the Archive and Install feature though, once I have safely backed up my files. I found this on the Apple site also:
Archive and Install installations require the largest amount of available disk space because you need to have room to preserve your existing System and the new one you are installing
On my 250GB HD, my installation uses 200GB, and I only have about 40GB free. Will Archive and Install be able to work with this little space?

Anyone know how to make an iMac, OSX 10.8.1, System Settings modifier file?
I am working on an iMac, OSX 10.8.1, and would like to have a file that, when it runs, sets the mouse tracking speed at 7 (assuming that the far left of the bar is 0), deselects 'natural scroll direction,' and, in Mission Control, deselects 'show dashboard as a space.' It needs to be something that can be run from a USB drive, as I will be using it on a computer system that resets itself daily. While I have some (basic, Windows and Fedora oriented) programming knowledge, I am unfamiliar with the Mac OS coding environment and scripting languages. Does anyone here know how to do this, or where I should look for someone who does?

Note: At this time BootCamp doesn't support 3TB drives - this is due to a memory allocation issue with Windows. Check out this article on a/an (unreliable) work around. I say unreliable because some people are reporting success and others failure. At this time if you really need Windows it probably would be better to use virtualization software like Parallels, VMWare, or VirtualBox.

My iMac OSX keep shutting down
My iMac OSX keep shutting down randomly. It goes to a black screen to a blue screen and then shuts off. I have to unplug and replug it in to get it going again. It's happening everyday... has anyone had this problem and if so what did you do to fix it?
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, set the format type to Mac
OS Extended (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Partition button.
3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.

Check your system Login/startup items in OS X System Preferences under the Accounts icon- Login items tab.
If you have more than 6 items trying to launch at startup, you need want to remove these apps from the automatic launch/startup list
Add or remove automatic items
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
Select your user account, then click Login Items.
Do one of the following:
Click Add below the list on the right, select an app, document, folder, or disk, then click Add.
If you don’t want an item’s windows to be visible after login, select Hide. (Hide does not apply to servers, which always appear in the Finder after login.)
Select the name of the item you want to prevent from opening automatically, then click Delete below the list on the right. -
How do I view a CD on my iMac OSX?
I have been trying to view a photo CD on my iMac OSX 10.7.5 and when inserting the CD my Disk utility window comes up or a message "recordable CD". I do not want to burn or copy my CD, I just want to be able to VIEW the CD. What is happening here?
Have a look at System Preferences->CD & DVD's
What is set for CD in both the top and bottom sections
Once you have the CD inserted in the reader what happens if you open it in Finder? What do you see?
You may have to set this Finder Preference
to have the CD show on the Desktop.

I can't figure out why my IPad keeps crashing.
It's not pages I'm worried about It's my app that I just downloaded and every time I try to open it, it shows me a sponsor or it turns black than crashes. I have closed all running apps and powered off. I also delete it and rebooted it. Please help.

Re-installing drivers & certain components/programs - How does one do this in Lion? I believe I know how to do this in Windows, i.e. in Device manager for drivers etc. which can be helpful as often that can cure some problems in windows. However in O
