IMac RE set up

I have an iMac G5 running 10.4.11. It is connected to a wireless network (that Comcast set up) thru a Netgear router. I also have a PC laptop running Vista wirelessly connected to the router. I have read that Vista is not compatible to RE and have tried everything from the installation CD to connecting it right to the PC to no avail. So, I am trying through the Mac. The Mac is the device that I need the range expanded on anyways. I have read many threads and tried everything that I can think of to make it work on the Mac. I tried plugging it into the router directly, and did get blue lights, but when I unplugged it and plugged it in elsewhere, I got a red light again. Right now I have it plugged into the Mac and manually set IP to 192.168.0.240, SM 255.255.255.0, Router 192.168.0.1. My wireless settings for the router are IP 192.168.0.11, SM 255.255.255.0, router 192.168.0.1. To add to my confusion is that I do not really know anything about networking and my neighbor has a linksys router that still has factory settings (apparently) and my system keeps locating. I have also tried going on-line to 192.168.0.240 or 192.168.1.240 and cannot connect on either computer. Can anyone help me? I have wasted countless hours on this. Should I just return it and get a larger antenna?

Thank you very much for your instructions. You have gotten me farther along. I plugged the RE into the Mac and on Network settings manually set Ethernet connection IP to 192.168.1.50, SM 255.255.255.0, Router 192.168.1.240. I was then able to access the RE setup using http://192.168.1.240. In that window, I changed the settings to match my Mac's wireless settings. My wireless settings for the router are IP 192.168.0.11, SM 255.255.255.0, router 192.168.0.1. I also changed the SSID to match my wireless name. When I went to set WEP security it gave me an option for 4 different Keys and a passphrase. I'm not sure what that means. I skipped the passphrase (because it said it only worked with Netgear equipment) and manually entered the same key code (that I use to connect through the USB wireless adapter) in all 4 key slots (because it told me I couldn't leave any blank). It said it was automatically saving the settings in that window. When it got back to the main window, all of the things that I filled in were back to their default. (Should I have re-entered everything and saved again in that window too?) I then went to my network utility and it found the RE. I set the WEP there as well. My wireless utility found it, but the RE did not seem connected to the router. Clearly I didn't do something right because it still isn't working. My last attempt ended in complete loss of signal the Mac not seeing the USB wireless adapter. Now I got the Mac to see the wireless adapter but I feel like I know just enough to really screw everything up. p.s. I am using a Realtek USB adapter.

  • Can my iMac be set to type with French characters?

Hello all! Can my iMac be set to type with French characters? If so, what is the path? And, is there a keyboard overlay to see where the French language characters are located on the keyboard? Thanks!

    Hey Steve,
Thanks again for the thoughts... Unfortunately, the only characters that I can use keyboard shortcuts for French are the é, ç and the á (it's better than nothing).
Outside of that, I have to switch keyboard layouts. I know of the accent grave ( `e ) that's nextdoor to the number one key... But it don't work... my translator thinks it's a typo... because it takes up a whole characters worth of space instead of sharing the space with the actual letter (vowel), like the other accents.
So I need keyboard shortcuts for:
    ê Ê Ë ë è È
    Ô ô Ö ö
    à À Û û
I use these letters just enough to make switching keyboards back and forth a little irksome. Since the two keyboards have pretty distinctively different layouts and then we have the position of the A and M keys and.. well... see where this could lead??? LOL
    Thanks...
I appreciate your thoughts, as always...
    Yvonne

Using the Mac with your iPad has nothing to do with the fact that the iPad is running slow. There could be any number of reasons why the iPad is now running slow.
Have you tried a reset on the iPad?
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

How do you delete mistakes you put on a new imac when setting it up ?

    pretty vague question.
But i'l assume you went through setup assistant and made errors.
Ignore, proceed, then go back and fix them in the appropriate control panel or application.  Requires a bit more knowledge fo the system or searching around.
Make life easier and tell us context, error, etc.

  • I changed my imac hd setting to no access and then i restarted it. Now, im stuck on a white screen, what do i do? I can't even enter my password.

I was playing around with my imac (because im an idiot), and i clicked on computer. I decided to change my macintosh hd setting the last one (can't remeber if it was everyone or something else) to no access (it was on read only). After i did that i couldn't click anything, i tried to change it back but it wouldn't open the computer page for my so i couldn't click on the macintoch hd. I pressed the start button on the back until it shut off. I waited for 10 seconds and then i started it up again. It opened on the grey page with the apple logo and then it went to the white screen i waited for the page to change so i could enter in my password but it never came up. It's just stuck on the white page. I'm freaking out right now, i don't think i have my files backed up, but right now i could careless as long as my mac works. It's the iMac 21 inch screen and OS X Lion but i've done software update. Any ideas?

  • How do I set access to the same network share on a Windows server for multiple users on an iMac (school set-up) in Lion 10.7.3?

We've got them authenticating/binding with AD (after hours of troubleshooting to get working), and their Home drive on the Windows 2003 server loads in the dock, but they also want to be able to load the same network shares on the server e.g. "Students$" for every student that logs onto the iMac.  I realise without Lion server we can't control it by group, but if we could at least set it up consistently for the students that would be a great start.
    Thanks.

When you install you get the opportunity to install it for "All Users".
It sounds like you have a demo version on your Mac however, you need to delete it:

  • Colour Calibration for 24" iMac and setting up an ICC profile

    Hi,
Can anyone recommend a way for calibrating the display of a 24" iMac (not too expensive)? I will mainly be using Photoshop, Aperture and web browsing (I do not need for business, but like to have the best set up possible).
Also, on a similar note, can anyone suggest a cost effective way of getting an ICC profile for use with Photoshop (CS2) and Aperture for an HP Photosmart 3210 please?
    Thanks

    Hi Kevin
As your based in the UK feel free to contact me with regards to obtaining display profiles for your 24" iMac, and possibly output profiles for your printer.
We are hoping to add a 24" iMac (or should that be BigMac to our studio as a training machine and backup to our other Macs in the very near future. As soon as we get our machine it will only be a day or so before I get it profile and I would be quite willing to email you a copy of our screen profile free of charge for you to test, this should get you pretty good results.
As part of our business we carry out colour management training and that obviously includes creating colour profiles. We use a Gretag i1 Pro to calibrate and profile our screens to a very high level so I think it may be worth you giving me a call soon. Feel free to call me on 01773 717446 or email me at [email protected]

  • Proper connection between av receiver and iMac (network setting)

What would be the proper network setting, to connect an av receiver (connected to cable router/modem)? Tech support peeps at Harman Kardon say I need to share my "Music Library", for the home network feature to work and allow me to stream music from my iMac (running OS X 10.9.2).

Does your Harman Kardon support airplay?  Does it have wifi?  You're gonna need to give more info unless someone here happens to have your exact setup.  How does your mac connect to the internet?

  • IMac auto-sets to medium brightness

I'm having this problem where every time I turn on the Mac, the screen is set at medium (7 I think) brightness. I don't know what could have caused this.
I remember before upgrading to 10.6.3 there was a problem where it would auto-set at maximum brightness unless setting it level 1 (2?) brightness. This seems like a similar situation but I haven't tested the "fix" this time 'round.
    Any ideas?

  • I dont have icloud on my imac to set it up how can i get it

Hi i don;t have icloud on my imac to st it up how can i get it

Pleaase always post your System when you have a question: the answer is very often quite different depending on your system. I would assume you have 10.6.8 or earlier?
The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.2 (Mountain Lion preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is non non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
You can set Snow Leopard up to access the email on an existing iCloud account which has been set up on a compliant device, and you may be able to sync iCal using an unsupported (and possibly unreliable) hack, but no other facilities will work. You cannot open an iCloud account on Snow Leopard.
This page outlines the limited use you can make of an existing iCloud account with Snow Leopard:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudSL.html
To make proper use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Leopard or Snow Leopard, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • IMac FTP Set Up

I'd like to set up my iMac as an FTP.
I have tested the function but it seems I can access my entire folders remotely.
How do I set it up so as only to access the Public or Drop Box folders?
(so others can then drop files onto my 'FTP')
    Running Yosemite OSX
    thanks

    OK Problem solved!!
    At the DSL end
1 tech support with ISP reset modem to Disable NAT/NATP. If I understood correctly the modem is now just a plug in the wall interface and controls nothing.
They assigned me a static IP ( altho I never needed it withte cable modem at home)
2 tech support with netgear I cant remember what we did now But it didnt work.
3 to night after trolling though the modem and Router innards I discovered that the internal IP address had changed from 192.168.1.4 to 192.168.1.5.
    AHA that must be it
Also "allowed remote access" from my home Mac.
Got home . Got into the modem via remote access.. Still couldnt FTP
Thinks !!! Hang on Ive disabled the modem from any control maybe I am driect into the router. Use iMac ID and password instead of ISP ID and passwoI had tried that before and Im in..
Who knows .. It might have worked before if the internal IP addy was correct. Maybe the other changes had something to do with it.
If I feel like wasting an hour or two Ill go back to point zero and start all over
Thanks for looking in and offering suggestions guys..

  • ITunes servers overloaded so can't sign in to iTunes on iMac to set up new iPad

I can log in to Discussions, first try, without any problem.
I just downloaded a free app on my iPad 2 without a problem.  Of course, this requires signing in with my password.  It worked, first try, as always.
I signed in to iTunes on my iMac last night.  It took three attempts, as usual, but it worked.
I can't sign in now to iTunes on my iMac.  I got a message that said there was a problem and that I should try again later.  I expect this problem will get even worse as the day gets later and people get home from work to set up their new iPads.  Why can't Apple's iTunes servers handle the traffic?
    Wonderful.

I was able to sign in to iTunes eventually, after several hours of trying and then stopping and then trying again.
The new iPad is great.  If anyone is wondering whether the new improved screen is worth the expense, try looking at the Guardian's Eyewitness app on the new iPad. It shows photos from around the world.  The quality is breathtaking.  Beautiful.  I also like the improved look of text, as I use my iPad for reading news stories a lot.  When more developers optimize their apps for the new iPad, I will be even happier.
Now, Apple, your next mission needs to be to fix the iTunes sign in problems on your desktop computers.  I can't uderstand why such a great company would be hampered by a lousy iTunes sign in process.  And, yes, I can understand why it would be slower than normal during the launch day of the new iPad, but iTunes always has problems with signing in.

  • Air card on Imac. Set up & share internet wirelessly with  Nintendo Wii.

I have tried to set up without success, connecting my iMac,s air card internet connection with a new Nintendo Wii. I have at one point got the Wii to recognize some connection signal (name of my iMac) but no through connection to internet with air card online.
Unfortunately, I have changed several settings on my iMac in the bluetooth and airport setups so it is not at the same starting point as original.
FYI I have an airport extreme also, which has never been utilized but is a recognized network on my MAC.

Your AirPort Extreme should be connected to the internet via the modem or whatever your ISP provides. The Mac and Wii connect to the AirPort, either wirelessly or via ethernet cables. When set up this way, your Mac will have nothing to do with connecting your Wii to the internet.
I hope this video will help:
