Imac's Installation CD
Maybe this is a stupid question, but how many Installation CD's/DVD does am iMAC G5 has? just 2? my iMac G3 and iBook used to have a bunch
Hi jeshua.
Your iMac G3 and iBook G3 came with CD's. Your iMac G5 comes with installation DVD's. You can fit as much on one single sided DVD as you can fit on 6 or 7 CD's. So you would need 12 to 14 CD's to equal two DVD's at full capacity.
Cheers

How to reset second hand iMac without installation disc?
Hi,
I recently purchased a second hand 24" iMac from 2007.
How is ist possible to reset it without installation disc of snow leopard?s there any possibility to reset the system having installed Mountain Lion or Mavericks.
As I own also a MacbookPro from 2009, is it possible to reset also the iMac using the disc of my Macbook,
or is it possible to restore it using my apple Id, with the purchased Mountain Lion / Mavericks via internet recovery.
Thank you for your quick answers,

Ok, so I will call a local store to see if they have one left for me!
Thank you
Brick and mortar stores will not carry the disc, you can get it online on Apple's online store. If you are in the USA the link is:

EMac/iMac tiger installation dvd
Can the Tiger DVD installation discs of an iMac or eMac be able to be installed on a G4 Powermac running Panther, please?
Thanks in advance
G4 Silver Mac OS X (10.3) Dual OS9 & OSXYou bet. Besides that you'd be violating the software terms of agreement you agreed to by installing an OS on several machines at the same time.

Adobe installer claims my Apple ID is incorrect when I try to install the new Flash Player. iMac + OS Mavericks. I have tried it many times. Same ID works on two iPads, iTunes, etc. and on the iMac whenever it is asked for, other than with Flash Player installer. Aggro+++++++
OK, thanks for answering, but after reading all the instructions and help on Adobe website, it was clear that it was my OS user ID that was wanted, but that kept being rejected, too. So today I contacted Apple support and it took a half hour to correct the problem, which was with the original ID——everything had to be reset, e.g. new ID, keychain reset, etc. and then I was able to get the new Flash Player. It is still STRANGE to me that nowhere else did I have a problem, but it seems it was a glitch with Mavericks and my computer.
Good to know it was not Adobe…….
Thank you,

Late 2009 iMac Windows installer won't run
So I will explain with more detail. My iMac is the late 2009 21.5 inch iMac with a..
Intel core 2 duo processor
4GB of
500GB HDD
So I followed the bootcamp guide which was made by apple. I opened up the bootcamp assistant and downloaded all of the software needed, and started partitioning the disk. I made about 40GB of space for my Windows side. After the partition completed, my mac restarted and started to read the DVD. However, I only get a black screen, and I can't get the Windows 7 installer to run. I thought I have some problems with my install disk so I used virtual box to see if the dvd works. When I used it on virtual box, the installer started and everything went fine. But when I use this for bootcamp, it did not work. I tried resetting everything, using a different installation disk, redo the partitioning, or boot up the disk by pressing the option key at the startup and selecting the disc. But none of them worked. I don't know why this is not working, since windows installed without any problems on my macbook pro retina. IMac ejecting installation disc upon restart
I installed Snow Leopard a few days ago on my aluminum iMac. Today, I used the Boot Camp Assistant to partition space for Windows XP, then restarted the computer. Now, when the computer restarts, the SuperDrive spins up for a couple seconds, then spins down, then ejects the disk, finally booting back into OS X.
I have installed Windows XP twice before (with a legit copy) on this computer, however I have just recently had my hard drive replaced through Apple Care, which is why I am installing XP for a third time. Both previous times, the install went seamlessly.
After browsing the forums and seeing various problems with Boot Camp 3.0, I figured it might have been a problem with Snow Leopard and Boot Camp 3.0. Thinking this, I decided to try reinstalling Leopard and using Boot Camp 2.1. I popped the disc in, began the installation as normal, and when the computer restarted, it also ejected the Leopard disc. Is anyone else having trouble like this? Any possible solutions? All help is appreciated.
Thanks.Im having a similar issue. Just purchased a new MacBook Pro with OS X (10.6). Installed win XP Pro (32 bit) and every time I try to install the drivers with the OS X install CD the computer spits it back out without reading...if you find a solution please let me know. Thanks

How do I continue working on projects after complete iMac re-installation?
A few months ago, I nearly finished a large project in iMovie. However, my iMac got terribly slow and I did an entire re-installation of its OS. The project itself is still in good shape, except it can't seem to connect the source clips anymore. I do have the source clips available as well.
Now what do I do?
I would be EXTREMELY grateful if you can help me resolved this!It is important to put the source clips back where they were exactly.
Were they on your internal drive or on an external drive?
If internal, the Project needs to go in the Movies/iMovie Projects folder.
The Event folders need to go in the Movies/iMovie Events folder, and have the same name as when the project was created.
If external, put them in the iMovie Projects folder or the iMovie Events folder, respectively, at the top level of the drive. -
Imac Bootcamp installation without cd drive
hello I want to buy the new Imac. And I want to install Windows 7 on it with Bootcamp. But how can I install Windows 7 without a Cd Drive. Maybe on a USB Stick? but how does it work?
You need a .iso image with Windows 7 to create the USB drive. You'll download the .iso if you've purchased Windows 7 as a download from the Microsoft Store. If you've the iso, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow steps

Emac, imac, ibook installs
I have an emac(parent's) and an imac(mine) and am about to buy an ibook(for college), none of these have Tiger 10.4 on them, either Jaguar or Panther. If I get Tiger 10.4 to update them, will I be able to use it for 3 different computers, and if so, will the imac or ibook, since they are older, still run smoothly? Also, I am more than likely going to get Microsoft Office(eww) because I need it for school, can I install this on all 3, and will they all run smoothly still? Thank you.
imac, emac, ibook Mac OS X (10.3.9)My husband recently installed (erase and install) Tiger on our 2 800mHz eMacs and we couldn't be happier. Both got iLife '06 at the same time and mine got PS elements4. Both of us feel that there is a noticeable increase in speed and we have had zero problems. Buy the family versions and upgrade them all. We had been stuck in 10.2.8 for years with 25,000 pix in iPhoto 2 and were afraid to upgrade due to all the problems we had heard about newer versions of iPhoto and losing album structure and so on. We aquired a used 12" iBook recently with panther and tried iLife '06 on it first. We copied our iPhoto libraries to an external drive, dropped them into the empty pictures folder, then opened iPhoto which proceeded to convert the libraries to version 6. Guess what? None of the probs we had heard about happened, and now weboth have identical copies of iPhoto on each of our computers.

Pouvez vous m'aider à régler ce problème svp ?My first recommendation would be to update all the way to OS X 10.6.8 using Software Update.
When I updated my older MacBook a couple of years ago to Snow Leopard the same thing happened to me when I first plugged in my iPad. iTunes would not recognize it. I wanted to take a few days with 10.6.3 before I fully updated the OS, but I made the decision to just update all the way and see what happened. After I updated all the way to 10.6.8, everything worked fine. -
IMac user Installable Memoery -512MB PC133 144-PIN SDRAM SODIMM LAPTOP RAM
Will 512MB PC133 144-PIN SDRAM SODIMM LAPTOP RAM be suitable for my iMac G4 800? The spec seems to meet the requirements as specified in other posts. It is available on e-Bay at less than £25.00
Thanks in advance of your helpWell that is the correct specification, but as always buyer beware on ebay. Is that seller going to replace the module or accept a return if the module doesn't work? Having had trouble with cheap (and even branded) RAM in the past I only buy from reputable Mac-friendly suppliers now and happily pay the extra for the piece of mind:Crucial

Computer locks up, so I want to reinstall the OS. I had upgraded to Snow Leopard.
Tried to do an archive and install from the DVD that came with the computer, but that failed.
Tried to do an erase and install, but the install stops somewhere near the end, 13 minutes to go. Tried several times, same result.
Can't reboot from the install disk, it just ejects the disk and I get the flashing question mark.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.I think my hard drive is toast. When I boot in single user mode, I get the following text:
CSRHID Transition Driver: start booting in single user... will wait for window server
Then the following text appears, repeating itself over and over, except that the numbers (indicated by "xxxxxxx")
SAM Multimedia: READ or WRITE failed, SENSE_KEY = 0x03, ASC = 0x02, ASCQ = 0x00
SAM Multimedia: READ or WRITE failed, SENSE_KEY = 0x03, ASC = 0x02, ASCQ = 0x00

Thank you for your reply. I believe that when trying to promote a controversial system like the Creative Cloud, everything should work flawlessly. A special CC installer is needed to install the CC Desktop, then you have to spend hours reading and trying to make this work. It’s really frustrating.
Fortunately, this milestone made me realize that perhaps Lightroom is not for me anymore. I have been an ardent fan of Adobe’s photo products, have bought many of them for years, almost since the first versions of Photoshop, but last year I wasn’t able to buy Photoshop CS6 – it had to be through the CC. I like to buy a product, own its license for whatever time I choose and then buy a new one if it pleases me. I cannot do this in the CC, where I am forced to continue paying for a product no matter what (it is a curtailment of the freedom of choice).
I also learned that in the very near future Lightroom could also be included in that ominous list of products in the CC., so I believe this is the time to say good-by to Adobe photo products. It is a shame that a marketing strategy that worked so well since the beginning of Photoshop, should now be substituted for such a widespread-disliked experiment called the Creative Cloud. Perhaps it works fine for large businesses, but not for smaller ones, the ones that put Photoshop and Lightroom where they are now.
Adobe, we made you grow and now you think you don't need us anymore, so you dump us.
Good-by and good luck, Adobe. -
Is there a way to install an SSD hard drive on a 2011 iMac without voiding the warranty?
I purchased an iMac last October and my line of work demands extensive use of After Effects and Final Cut Pro. My iMac is fitted with the standard 1TB SATA hard drive, and lately I considered installing an SSD drive as I have been experiencing lags. In all my naivete I asked Apple Store/Service outlet where I originally bought my iMac, but they turned me down, claiming that "they are not allowed to order the extra parts and if they do proceed then my warranty will be void". Which means that about 2 years of AppleCare will go out of the window. I can always do it myself, but at the risk of damaging my iMac and facing a null warranty on top of it. I am still reeling in disbelief, is it really the case that Apple prohibits its customers from legitimately upgrading their computer at their own stores? What kind of nonsense is this? It's an iMac we're talking about, not an iPhone. It is unreasonable, unprofessional, and I need an explanation!
Adding an SSD is not a simple endeavour like adding additional memory or adding another hard drive to a Mac Pro. That's probably why the option is only offered as an option at the time of purchase. Even if your Apple store was willing to install the necessary parts you will probably be paying for 1-2 hours of labor plus the cost of purchasing the necessary service parts (SSD, bracket, cables, etc) which I suspect will make the upgrade cost much higher than what it costs to add the SSD option when purchasing a new system.
I use my system for business and need it to work reliably. Even though I'm fairly handy with tools I would not be willing to risk damaging my system and voiding my warranty by opening my system and removing the logic board and several other parts in order to squeeze in an SSD option and attach the appropriate cables and brackets. I'm also not prepared to deal with the hassles of explaining why my system has unauthorized parts installed in the event I experience issues and need to make use of my Apple warranty. My time is valuable, so I would probably investigate external storage options, or if I needed the speed of an SSD, I would consider selling my existing system and then purchase a new system configured with an SSD.
If you haven't already done so I suggest doing a search on 'iMac SSD installation' to see what's involved. It might help you understand why the SSD option is not offered post purchase. -
Can I upgrade the video card in my 2009 iMac with the new ATI 2 GB VRAM card?
I am looking for more video RAM for video, CGI and animation work in Blender.
I may purchase Final Cut Pro X in the near future and I need to make sure there is enough video RAM to be able to work with this version of FInal Cut.
I, currently, use Final Cut 4 Express and though this runs fine, through Rosetta, on my current setup, I fear this much newer version may need more graphics power than I have, now.
I, also noticed some lag when working with Blender.
No where near as much graphics or video/animation lag as when I using Blender on my old G4m but it's still slightly noticeable.
I realize I may have to install this myself.
Can I purchase, somewhere, Apple's 1 or 2 GB ATI card seperately or from a third party vendor and install, myself.
I have seen posts that tell that the 27 inch iMac has a removable video card and is not soldered to the logic board like in the 21 inch models.
If true, is there a complete procedure for the iMac breakdown, installation of the video card and reassembly procedure?
My iMac only has the stock 256 MB VRAM graphics card.
If the take down looks more difficult than I feel I can attempt, I have an Apple authorized reseller, repair facilty here, in my area.
Could I purchase the card and have them install it for a fee?
ThanX for all of the info and advice, in advance
MichelYou will need to check if your model originally was offered with a custom build option that included a different graphics card. If so, you may be able to have it done; here is a fellow who managed to do it on a 2011 iMac (graphics card not soldered) and the model originally offered a better card option:

Is this yours:

In particular, click on the link in this section of the specs:
I'd check either with Apple and/or an AASP to see if it can be done with yours or if yours is one of those where it is part of the Logic Board/soldered to it.

How do I continue installation?
While I was installing a trial version of Adobe Premiere Elements, the process "froze" and would not install. I therefore cancelled the installation --to hopefully restart it again, but I could not. Any solution? See below. Thank you.
