IMac typing lag

I have a problem that has become very annoying. It seems that I have about a 1 second lag between typing a key and/or clicking a mouse button and the actual even occurring on my Mac. If I try to highlight something in a safari window, I have to click and hold for about a second before I move the mouse, or I miss what i am trying to capture. When typing in a safari window, there is about a 1-2 second delay between the time the key is pressed and when test appears on the screen. Can anyone help me? could this be a virus, hardware, or firmware issue? My mac is just shy of being a year old.

Hello slap:
Rule out a virus. There are NO documented viruses that affect a Mac running OS X - none.
The lag could be anything - including some sort of hardware problem, although I have never seen what you describe.
Do you have at least 10% of your HD free at all times?
Try a couple of simple things:
Run repair disk from your software install DVD.
Reset PRAM:

Your firmware should be up to date if you run software update regularly.

Imac Extreme Lagging

Hello to all,
I run an iMac (specified below), updated to Yosemite a couple of weeks ago. A couple of days ago the mac started lagging to the point I can't work; cursor lags, typing lags, opening apps bounce on the dock for a while, closing them takes for ever, mail is slowest ever, etc... I've tried resetting PRAM, I ran utility disk (revised and repaired), I reset SMC, I've tried working single apps, but nothing makes a difference; it keeps lagging and activity monitor shows steady system processes but spiking user processes. In case its worth mentioning, I use Google Drive, iCloud Drive, and Dropbox (its just the way I've devided my folders to keep low volumes). My internet service is slow and unstable (around 2mbps; its all that is available at my location). No apple stores or Genius Bars at reach. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

How am I going to explain this?
Ok there we go. Our users are complaining about CRM performance in specific there are complaining about typing lag. They are typing faster than what shows in IC webclient fields.
I was wondering If any one has experienced this issue before, As I have exhausted all the performance enhancement opportunity with our system.

Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.

Browser zoom causes typing lag

When using Outlook.com mail, my user noticed a typing lag. I reset IE, disabled all startup items, tried an external keyboard on this laptop, deleted the built in keyboard driver and let it redetect on reboot, tried Google Chrome as an alternate browser.
No typing lag in any other app such as WordPad. I found that in IE or Chrome, 125% zoom was fine but as soon as I set it to 150%, the lag came back, that was the common denominator.

This issue can be caused by video card and GPU acceleration.
Please disable GPU acceleration in IE and Chrome, and if you have Graphic card software, please also disable the GPU acceleration on it to check the results.

SSH shell typing lag when server's using wireless

I've just setup initial archlinux installation, started opensshd with default setting without modifying any configuration.
First I've enable netctl-auto to use wireless connection (11n 5Ghz) in archlinux, after that I've connected ssh shell using my 2 machines (1 wired, 1 wireless) and observed noticeable typing lags in remote shell regardless of connection client uses. As soon as I replace wireless network to wired one on archlinux those problem goes away completely.
Suspected basic thing such as network load, or latency but there weren't significant differences between wired / wireless, not sure why only occurs when server uses wireless connection.
May I possibly ask for some help to find out any clues?

@Trilby - Interesting, actually there are more than 10 devices are connected via wireless to my router but in my case I haven't experienced any other perf drops other than this issue.
@firecate53 - Thanks for suggestion. Before posting this I also tried Mosh with MobaXterm as client (client system is windows) which did not show any big differences. Cas of power saving I didn't thought in that way at all, will take a look.

My iMac is lagging after updating iTunes.

Today i have updated to the latest itunes and right after that i have noticed that my imac is lagging when i slide through the different pages i have open on my imac. its also lagging when i move my mouse on the dashboard while it magnifies. and also when i close or open a file its lagging while the file is being minimized. Any suggestions, its really annoying.

What's with Safari 6? Extremely unstable, scrolling lags, typing lags...

I upgraded to Safari 6 just before (using Software update, I'm using 10.7) and... it's completely unusable.
I tried to post this question using Safari but it crashed 4 times, so I'm in Chrome now. (No crash report dialog appeared to report to Apple.)
And it's slow: There are huge lags in typing. And long scrolling lags.
It's basically unusable. That's not an exaggeration - it's seriously completely unusable. Just the crashing alone makes it unusable.
Wasn't this tested?
I usually use Safari as my main browser and Chrome for testing, but I'm going to have to use Chrome as my main browser until this is fixed.
Anybody know what's going on?

To help ascertain part of the problem - open Activity Monitor (it's in your Applications folder in another folder called 'Utilities')
Open that, in the Processes dropdown, select 'All Processes'
In the list of 'processes' check and see how much CPU % that the Safari and Safari Web Content processes are using.
For me, they have been consistently using 60-110% of my CPU% even when I have only a couple pages open - even with Flash disabled, Extensions turned off, etc.
This is the problem at its core.
I've also noticed that my IM app Adium is taking an abnormal amount of CPU % now also, I suspect because it also uses WebKit to display a message window.
Which makes me think there is a large bug in Safari 6's implementation of WebKit - which can affect any application that uses a webview to display content.
Not good.
Let me know if the high CPU% issue is true for you guys also.

Apple Pro Wireless Keyboard Typing Lag

I have been running this old keyboard on my W7 machine,(not through Boot Camp) and recently it has been lagging really badly when typing in most every program. It seems like the keys are sticking, but it happens to almost every key (except caps lock and the like). I have tried replacing the batteries, and it doesn't seem to help any. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x86, with the Microsoft drivers.

Try a couple of things. If they do not work, call Applecare with a warranty issue (the KB may be faulty)
Reset the PRAM
Reset the SMC.

Text Message / Browser / Email typing lag

Ever since I bought the iPhone 3G, I've noticed that when im typing out a text message / an email / in a browser, or anything that involves typing, my phone just randomly decides whether it was to lag or not. Sometimes there is no delay in typing speeds, other times it sits there and lags for about 1-1.5 seconds on each letter you press (so you type out an entire sentence and then have to wait as the phone delays itself in typing).
Is anyone else having this problem? Is it isolated to the iphone 3G? Is it something about the 2.0 software?

This issue was introduced in firmware 2.0 and exists on first gen iPhones also. They did not occur with firmwar 1.1.4 or below.
Apple knows about that and hopefully fixes it in the next firmware release. Meanwhile you can switch your phone off and on again, which helps in most cases (at least for a short period of time).

IPhone - Typing lag, text scrolling, lag

Hi all,
After upgrading to 2.0 I've experienced lag while typing in many areas (text, Safari, Contacts, etc.) - it takes a second or two for the screen to display what I've entered. At this point, I'm able to type a few words before it decides to diplay. In addition, scrolling through the phone is a chore as it freezes when selecting Contacts, Recents and so on.
To make things more interesting, there are times when I am unable to scroll to the bottom of existing text messages - when selecting the text, it will not be at the bottom. Rather, it will be 4-5 texts up - it is possible to scroll to the bottom; however, it will not stay there. To text, I must enter the text area then press the Home button a couple of times - this seems to happen when there are unread texts available.
Turning iPhone off and on has not helped, seems like a restore is the next option though any suggestions are always welcome.

I have this same problem and it drives me absolutely INSANE!!! It wasn't apparent before 2.0 and multiple restores have done nothing to correct it. Apple needs to get on the ball.... So far the iPhone has, in general, been a huge disappointment and I purchased Day One. Of all the Apple products I have owned in the last 9 years, I must say that Logic (all versions) and the iPhone are the only ones I would consider crap. I use Ableton Live because it's way better software for producing electronic music than Logic but there is no better option concerning the iPhone. If Apple would offer Logic as a plugin package or simply allow it to be ReWired as a slave application I would go back to using it. ****, I'm Apple Certified in Logic and I won't use it anymore!!! I seem to have gotten off topic.... Apple please fix the iPhone (and Logic while you're at it).
P.S. I will not be surprised if my post gets deleted as Apple is rather touchy about technically-minded people giving poor reviews of their products. They should focus instead on making sure their products perform at the top than hushing the opinions of their pro users. Just my .02!!!

Odd typing lag in Google Chrome on FB messages

Hi All,
I'm new to Mac and have what seems to be a silly question, but would love to know if anyone has seen this and might have a solution.
On Facebook using Google Chrome as the browser, when typing in a message, there is a tremendous keyboard lag. I type 5 words or so, then the appear on the screen. This lag doesn't happen when typing in URL's or other websites, just Inbox messages on FB in Chrome. No lag using Safari, just Chrome.
I really can't change from Chrome as I need everything to synch across all my PC's, laptops, etc. So I'm stuck with it. Not a huge thing I'll grant you. Just wondering if anyone has seen this or if anyone has some ideas.

It's not a virus. They probably want you to purchase security software. Nothing to be concerned about.
Also, if that happens again, besides deleting cookies, from your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Autofill tab. Click the Edit button next to *Other forms*
Delete all Google related url's.
Quit Safari then relaunch Safari.

Typing lag following Pages 5.2 update

Pages is running so slowly I can’t use it for work. Sentences lag after I type them, sometimes for minutes. Also scrolling lags and skips, and the thumbnails pane is absolutely crazy - it shows overlapping pages, missing pages, etc. The problem seems to be slightly exacerbated in longer documents, but does not seem to affect Word, TextEdit, SublimeText, TeXShop, or other text editors. It is also exacerbated by the general slowness of the computer, which is coming up on five years old now, but the problem is definitely Pages-specific, definitely only started after the update, and it definitely making it totally unusable. I'd really appreciate any advice, even simple stuff.
I've just upgraded to pages 5.2 (as part of the complete iWork update), on a mid-2009 Macbook Pro (running OS X 10.9.2), with a 2.23 GHz processor and 8 GB of RAM.

The problem is most probably software specific. I am running OSX 10.9.2 on a rMBP with 16gb or Ram, half a TB of free storage and a 2.6 i7 and typing in pages lags a lot! I was on the phone with apple support UK for over an hour yesterday and they did not have a solution for me but at least they are looking into it. The program was not sucking too much memory and the rest of the computer was running smoothly. The only problem was with typing in pages. The length of the document didn't seem to have a correlation, as opening a new document and filling it with dummy text of up to 3000 words did not cause it to lag, but rather the amount of time I've spent on a document. The technician asked me to disconnect pages from icloud as he thought it could be connected with the constant updating, but this didn't help either. We've tried creating a new user account, testing the document in safe boot, completely removing pages from the system and then reinstalling, removing any plug ins like Endnote's plugin etc but NOTHING helped. And the weird thing is that: it's only typing that's lagging, scrolling, adding graphics, copy pasting and ANY other function would work smoothly... unless you tried to type. Also, the exact same document would have no problem being edited in pages for icloud.
I am surprised as to why there aren't any more people facing this problem allready.
I will keep this post updated with any news from Apple Support.

New alumni body bluetooth keyboard typing lag???

So Problem im having is that well fist off i have my new mac book pro connected to the adapter to show the display on my lg tv. I also closed the macbook lid. But the problem i am having is that when i eh bluetooth keyboard there is sort of like a delay in typing. Its not as fast is there a new software i might have l or maybe the lid is closed so its making it delay? I tried checking this forum for the answer but i cant find anyone else that might have this issue. Thank you for your time.

So after asking this question i decided to turn the blue tooth off and back on again and that fixed the problem no more lag. I also updated the blue tooth firmware thanks guys.
