Image in JAR not found/used

Question

I have a gif image that is called by a JLabel:
JPanel cp = new JPanel(new GridLayout(0,2));
cp.add(new JLabel(new ImageIcon("test.gif")));I produced a jar by using this command: "jar cvfm MyApp.jar manifest.txt *.class test.gif"
The jar is correctly created and the image is show if the jar is run in a directory that contains "test.gif". If the gif isn't in the same directory, the image won't show. What am I doing wrong?

hehehe test.gif is the root of the jar ?
instead of
new ImageIcon("test.gif"))
you should call the resource that way witch work even if file isnt in a jar
the clean UNIX & WINDOWS way aka javaway :) :
// if you want the "BlueSkin.png" that is in  "Skins" dir
image1 = (new ImageIcon(this.getClass().getResource(
                            "/" + "Skins" +
                            "/" +
                            "BlueSkin.png"))).getImage();plz check out my chess app that use that way and has all the resources files in
