Images misaligned between browsers

Hi.
I am creating my first DW site, having made a number of sites
in other programs.
I am having a problem with some image alignment.
If you look at
http://www.smartwords.co.uk/cl/searanger/searanger_50.html
in Safari, it displays with the body text on the left and
floating next to the picture.
http://myskitch.com/davidtobin/float-20070825-003457.jpg
When viewed in IE 6 on Windows XP, the image appears above
the body text, aligned apparently left.
http://myskitch.com/davidtobin/no_float-20070825-002847/
I tried adding a float tag to the image but it doesn't seem
to work
What the best way of getting the images aligned in IE as well
as Safari?
If you could explain it step by step, i'd be really grateful,
as i am learning as fast as i can!
Best
David

Please post a link to the uploaded page so somebody can see
your code, not
possible from an image.

• Formatting issue between browsers

Good Morning,
I generally do not have issues between browsers, however, am having a major formatting issue this morning that I can't seem to figure out.
Because I do not generally have this issue, I have no idea how to fix it.
http://online.saintleo.edu/Request-Info-Splash.html
Looks perfect in Firefox, but in Chrome and IE, spacing and formatting is way off.
What is the easiest way to correct this?
Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

#2 of course there’s a reason, and one that isn’t relevant to my question.
Let this pass and let someone else answer.

• Servlet bean retrieving different values between browsers

hi all,
i have search functionality within my web app. basically the user enters a search string, i pass that using jquery to my servlet, obtain results and send the results back to the client browser.
now i have run into this problem, where if the user enters a special character in my search such a chinese character 字, the jquery passes the correct text to the servlet as a parameter, but in my bean when i go request.getParameter("searchTerm"), this search term gets lost and is different between browsers.
if i use ie6 the text is å-? and in firefox 3.6.3 its ?
this is important coz i get different search results depending upon the text.
does anybody know why if my jquery has the correct term, when passes as a parameter to my java code, the java bean interprets the character differently between browsers.
thanks.

Does the encoding really matter?
My jsp uses, pageEncoding="ISO-8859-1"
I was hoping that if IE passes the right value, so should FF. Or both should be passing in the same special character value.
Please suggest a fix.
Thanks.

• When I set black point on windows, the image switches between blank and full image, why?

when I set black point using windows, the image switches between blank and full image, why?

I set black point with alt button down while I move sllider. When black
dots show, I stop and back off a bit. That's the normal result. Normally a
white screen appears until I release the alt key. In my case, sometimes the
screen goes from white to full image. It's not all the time. I view my
power and ram use as I work and it doesn't spike when this happens. It's
as if the alt key command is not holding. I've used both alt keys with
same results.
Thanks for responding. I hope you have some ideas.

• Unwanted spaces between images, fine in browsers spaces appear in email clients

using the help and tips on here i managed to eliminate the gaps between images and the borders around hyperlinked images so that it looks good in browsers unfortunately when i go to view it in outlook it creates spaces, weirdly only between some images and not all. I'm a novice so a step by step guide would be super. Please see the code below. the gaps appear above and below images:

Any help would be great. Thanks

You cannot ever hope to successfully create an html email using one big table. It's bad enough when going down that route for ordinary browser viewing but when it comes to email clients they are a lot less forgiving.
You need to use a series of simple nested tables. No spliting or merging cells, that's suicide.

• Issue with images in different browsers

Having an issue with different browsers -- hoped someone
could help.
If I open my site with IE, everything looks as it does in
Dreamweaver -- there is no overlap of text and images/etc.
If I open my site with Mozilla or Safari, it seems to
arbitrarily move up some of the images over the top of text. Not
all of the images, mind you -- just a few random ones throughout
the page.
Opening the following link in both type of browsers may give
you a clue as to what is going on. What can I do to get it to look
like it does in IE?

• Safari not loading images but other browsers are.

As the title denotes, I'm having this issue with safari that some images are not loading and I only get a blue question mark square. I have seen other forums with this question but it seems that my scenario is a little different, because other browsers like firefox can display images with no problem. Also for example, when I do a google image search only several images get to load while others don't. If I click refresh they finally get loaded but sincerely they take a lot more time to load than on firefox (sometimes refreshing doesn't work either) It might not be such a problem in an image search but on pages like facebook it is quite a hassle.
I don't know what might be causing it, (I don't believe its got to do with my internet connection since firefox has no problems whatsoever.) At first I thought that maybe an update might do the trick so I installed Safari 4 Beta which gave me only a slight better loading of the images.
Now to help see my case I've got some points to say in advance:
1) I don't think it is webpage specific but I frequently see it in google image search and facebook
2) I am using mac OS X 10.5.6
3) Every time an image doesn't load, the activity window says "can't find host"
4) As said above, I'm using Safari 4 Beta. But still I had this problem with the previous Safari

Hello,
We also have a problem with Safari only partially loading pages, or not loading them at all (a blank page is displayed). It happens intermittently, and affects some websites more than others.
It's definitely not an Internet issue as all other browsers (FF 3.5.1, latest Opera, Navigator, IE 6, 7 and 8 via Parallels Desktop) can display the pages normally.
I don't think it is related, but most of the websites that are affected are hosted at MediaTemple:
http://www.bedsupperclub.com
http://www.soundphuket.com
http://www.silqbkk.com
http://www.bedmgmt.com/
Reloading the page doesn't help (we tried reloading a gazillion times).
The issue affects all computers in our office (iMacs, MBP, MB).
We are using the latest version of Safari (4.0.2), it's an issue that we also experienced with 4.0 and the Beta.
We are gradually shifting to Firefox as this issue is really frustrating.

• Corrupted images in windows browsers

Can anyone help? I have made a site which has a number of jpeg images created in photoshop, using "save for web & devices" etc. They are set to 120 dpi and reduced to fit. The site looks fine in browserlab when viewed with chrome, safari and the latest windows browsers. However, in some earlier windows browsers the images are corrupted and not rendered properly, with blurred, wavy edges and unintelligible type. Sometimes, they have disappeared.
How can I correct this?

They are set to 120 dpi and reduced to fit.
This is really not relavent for Web development since Web dimensions are set in px, not dpi.
For best results, resize the images to the exact pixel dimensions used on your Web page and then save the image at whatever compression value give you acceptable results.... the more compression used the smaller the file size (not the dimensions) but the quality is also reduced.

• MG6320 image misaligned on CD/DVD

When I print images on CDs and DVDs the image is misaligned vertically by nearly 1/2 inch. I have tried several programs like Paint, Windows Live Photo, Picture Viewer, Microsoft Office Picture Viewer, GIMP, Photoshop Elements, ArcSoft Photo Studio, and Canon EasyPhoto EX. I am running Windows 7.
Most programs automatically position the image about 1/2 inch off center with no option to move the image. When a print preview is opened, it actually shows the image off center.
I found that ArcSoft Photo Studio does have a print setting that will allow one to shift the image but after a lot of trial and error it still is not quite satisfactory, with ink running off the disc edges onto the disc tray.
One note: I have printed thousands of CDs and DVDs on Epson RX340 and an HP all-in-one with no problems. I could just open any of the above programs and with just a few mouse clicks print a disc that was centered just fine. So far I have wasted about two dozen DVDs trying to get an acceptable print on my new Canon MG6320. At this point I wish they would take it back and I would buy another Epson. And anyone that asks me, that is exactly what I will tell them, even though I have Canon camera and scanner equipment.
Now on to Canon EasyPhoto EX, the software that came with my new Pixma MG6320.
1. Canon should drop the "Easy" portion of the software name. It may have lots of bells and whistles for some needs, but it is incredibly intensive just to get one image to print on a CD.
2. There is no blank layout to choose from. Even if you pick "Simple" you still have a background to delete, along with 3 text lines to delete, and you have to resize and center the chosen image manually.
3. Canon designers should actually have to use the software they create and count mouse clicks just to do something simple (I just counted 17 not counting the interaction required with the printer itself). Their performance bonus should be in inverse proportion to the number of mouse clicks required to perform simple functions.
What I want to do is to print one image, centered on the disc and covering the whole printable area, and with no text added.
Through searching this forum and others, I find other users (buyers) want to do the same thing.
I like the physical printer itself, although it has a large desktop footprint, and you have to leave the inner cover closed until it tells you to proceed when printing discs, then press OK on the screen - neither Epson nor HP had this extra set of steps to delay you.
I don't think I should have to buy third-party software to handle this issue, but if someone knows of free software that will solve the issue, I would be grateful. If Canon would develop an update that would streamline this simple task, that would be acceptable, too. If Canon had a way to save the complete format to a file, then just add your selected image, that would be fine, too.
Any help out there at all?

Hi oldtruckoldergu and bottlna,
You may need to upgrade Easy-PhotoPrint EX to correct this issue. If you are using a version prior to 4.1.6, then visit our website to upgrade the software.

• LR3 - Retaining image edits between 2 computers using USB Hard Drive

Hi guys,
I'm having troublewith syncing edits to my images between 2 computers that I'm using and wondered if you can help.
I have a desktop mac which is my main computer for image editing and also a Macbook. I don't store any images on either machined hard drives, I use a portable USB drive so that I can plug it into either computer.
I do most of my image edits on my desktop mac but then when I plug the hard drive into my laptop, the images are just as they were off the camera with no edits.
I need to be able to sync the edits so that when I plug the hard drive into the macbook, the edits are shown.
I do wedding photography and make the edits on my desktop and then would like to be able to take my laptop to visit my clients and show them the edited images.
Please could someone explain to me how to do this.
Many thanks in advance.

• Disk image moved between machines--shouldn't this work?

Hello, I am having a problem making a functional DVD. Here's the scenario:
I have a MacBook Pro (2009) with iMovie '09 installed, and I have a project I want to burn. The optical drive is broken, and the smart folks at Apple decided that they'd make it impossible for my shiny new external superdrive to work with my MacBook Pro. BUT, I also have a MacBook Air 2012 which can use the superdrive just fine. I can't transfer the iMovie project between machines--iMovie '11 has some terrible bugs when you try to import still photographs. So my solution was this:
--on the MBP, export the movie from iMovie as a quicktime .mov,
--open the .mov in iDVD (after experimentation, this gives MUCH better results than choosing "export to iDVD" in iMovie)
--in iDVD, save as a disk image
--copy the .img file (using a thumb drive) to the MBA
--Use Disk Utility on the MBA to burn the disk image just transferred onto a DVD using the external superdrive
Could someone tell me where this elaborate chain is likely to go wrong? The first disc I tried creating like this could be played on a computer using VLC (and the menu was operational, it wasn't just reading the video file), but it didn't work on either of the regular DVD players I tried.
Any help troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated. Here are the details of all the settings:iMovie 09 -> export using quicktime -> file type .mov -> compression type H.264, Frame rate current, Key frames automatic, compressor quality Best, encoding Best Quality, Data Rate automatic. In iDVD Preferences I chose NTSC (I'm in North America), encoding Professional Quality, and the correct DVD type (dual layer). In Disk Utility on the MBP I just dragged the transferred .img file into the left-hand pane, selected it and hit Burn.
When I transferred the .img file, that was all I transferred between machines.
Thank you!

the .img file was only ~700 MB (it's a short film). Should it have worked, in this case?
Don't know - May be ?
How can I find out whether it (the ext Hard Disk) is formatted as Mac OS extended?
• Select it on DeskTop/Finder (one Click)
• then go to File and down to Show Info - or - [cmd+I]
• read formatted as : nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
And lastly I read elsewhere that DVD-R would be more reliable than DVD+R.
DVD+R are a more modern format and by so more reliable - BUT OLD DVD-Players can not read them so I chose them due to not knowing what player it will be played on.
And I think that if the DVD was able to be read on another computer, then it could not have had burn errors right?
No - but different devices has better or worse Error Correcting Functions - so keeping the amount of Burn Errors dowm = More devices can play them.
Good Luck.
Yours Bengt W

• VMWare Fusion Image Sharing between user account on MAC

Dear All, i've install VMWare Fusion on my MAC, i've created an XP image on mac account 1, but when i create mac account 2, i'm unable to access my XP image. Anyone can help on this?

This isn't a Fusion issue, and it's not an issue of compatibility between Mac OS and Windows. It's simply a matter of not being able to see files in another user's home folder.
Just save/move your Fusion image in the /Users/Shared folder and all users can have access to the image.

• How to properly stretch photoshop image for all browsers

Can somebody please help me determine the best way for my photoshop image to stretch properly for all browsers? I have made the height and width as 100% and it works on some browsers but not on all and looks sloppy.
My template is still in the works from photoshop but can somebody take a look at the following URL
www.wearvindicate.com/indextest2.html and let me know what coding if any needs to be changed?
Thanks

Images are static. They don't resize to fill the browser viewport without special scripts or coding techniques which can create other problems.
The best approach is to use small image slices or tiles and repeat them horizontally, vertically or both with CSS.

I checked the source code on the other computers and the proper code is there. For some odd reason this Mac is dropping out some (not all) html coding. How? Why? A fix?
Here is the page in question. www.meehanite.com. Banner art at top and rotating banner below it won't load on Macbook Pro. Shows a ? It's fine on all other computers.

Works fine here and source code looks normal ...

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Chazza!
I installed Tracker (because it wasn't installed yet), configured it, had it index my locations, turn on searching for Files and Weather and logged in again. After that it worked flawlessly.
