IMovie '08 not working for me, then won't quit

Hi,
I have a sony dcr-sr90 hard disk camcorder. I had it before imovie '08 came out and I was pleased to see that this new version was compatible with mpeg2 formats. Trouble is, while I have got imovie to import some videos, it's a timely and rather hit and miss affair.
I've tried it again just recently and it's bugging the **** out of me. Today, I just upgraded to version 7.1 and dowloaded the ilife support software too. I'm not sure if I had that or not. I was hoping this might fix my problems. But, it appears not. I connect the camera, open imovie which then says camera detected - scanning for movie clips. This process takes ages and I only have about an hours worth of clips on the camera. Finally, I get 'generating thumbnails'. Again this takes ages and sometimes actually bombs out. I then have to quit imovie, but it won't let me and I have to do a hard shutdown. On the odd occasion that it does does complete generating thumbnails, I click the movies I want to import and off it goes. I left it going overnight the other day cos it takes so long. In the morning I saw that it froze after about 3 clips!! What is going on? Why is it so slow and erratic? It's nigh on impossible to use at the moment.
Anyone have any thoughts on what might be wrong?

You may be able to reduce start up time if when you close im7, you don't leave the events window with iphoto videos selected. Additionally some of your ihoto video could be causing an issue, you could try removing it to a folder on your desktop to see if it helps at all.

    There's no reason you can't go on using iWeb for this - with iWeb '08 you have to publish to a local folder (i.e. on your Mac) and then upload the contents of the folder (not the folder itself) to your hosting service: and you have to make sure you enter the new URL in the Publish information or the feed won't work properly; this done, an iWeb podcast should work fine.
    Of course there is still the problem that iWeb is not supported and sooner or later a system upgrade may break it. You could look at RapidWeaver: you can make podcasts with that, though the last time I looked into that - which was admittedly some time back - I didn't feel it was ideal for this. There are lots of other podcast creation programs or services around. WordPress is OK but it may be a bit of a steep learning curve: Libsyn is an online service that seems to work reliably. Blogger writes messy feeds but does usually work. Podcast Maker used to work well - I used it myself a few years back - but it rather looks as if it's gone moribund and it may not be reliable with Lion/Mountain Lion, so you would want to check into that.

    By checking the device properties on the user that works - "Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad 13/10/2011 Version 15.3.29.0"
    When the other user logs on, the touchpad works for a few seconds, then a displays a black square with a red diagonal line through it, then the touchpad won't respond. Trying to use the keypad to navigate to system diagnosics or anything to find further info is useless....

    I will do my best in assisting to hopefully get the TouchPad to work on the second user profile.
    What I would like to start off with, is to restore the original Synaptics drivers onto the profile that is not working correctly. I have included the document Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7).
    Once you have installed the original drivers, you will need to complete all updates from both HP, as well as Windows. For these updates, if you open the HP Support Assistant, and select Maintain, you should see an option for updating.

    Hi Shilpa,
    How many number of sessions are open ? If there are already six sessions open and then you try and get the debugger, it will not start, and you won't be able to catch that error also...!
    Other than that there is no possibility that the debugger doesn't start, unless ofcourse, the logic doesn't reach the debugger point....

  • Currency conversion not working for foreign entity

    I am having an issue with currency conversion not generating the correct values for foreign entities. For entities where the currency is USD, I am able to see the LC amount being written to USD. However, for entites that have currencies other than USD, I just see zeros. I have double-checked to make sure that rates exist for the given currencies. Below is the logic script I am using which is a modificatio nof the multicurrency.lgl. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Karen,
    I'm no script logic expert so I won't comment on your code. If it's working for USD then the code is probably fine.
    There are a few other things you could check (these are based on investigation using the standard multicurrency script). They should line up with the standard Finance application from AppSet
    In the InputCurrency dimension for the currencies you want to convert into :
       Check property Reporting is equal to "Y"
       Check property Group is set to "Report"
       Check propoerty MD has a value of "M" or "D"
    In the RptCurrency dimension you need to have entries for the the currencies you want to convert into (AppSet only has USD and EUR to start). Also for each of the currencies :
       Check property Reporting is equal to "Y"
       Check property Group is equal to "Report"
       Check property Transfer is equal to "Y"
    I'm not convinced that the Transfer value is required but from my testing if you get the above set up and use the standard multicurrency script it will work.
    The testing I did was translating into USD, EUR, GBP, CHF, AUD etc

    Tap on the event to open the event. Click the 'Edit' button in the event bubble, then press the 'Delete Event' button at the bottom of the Edit pop-up. It's a little different for events that come through Microsoft Exchange, you tap the event to bring up bubble and click the 'Details' button, and then press 'Decline' to remove the event.

  • IPhone 6 External Mic not working for Siri/Dictation

    I am finding that the external mic on my iPhone 6 works for phone calls and voice memos, but does not work for Siri/Dictation.  When I plug in the earbuds, they work for everything (including Siri/Dictation).
    Was chatting to Apple support who had me reset all settings.  I thought that worked, but realized that after a reset, Siri is off and I was talking to "Voice control" (which works).  When I turned Siri back on, it does not work.
    I have two questions for the community to see if you can help:
    1- I have been assuming this must be a software problem since the mic does work for non-Siri access.  But is that true?  Is there a hardware component that Siri depends on which could be faulty here?
    2- If it is software, what action should I try to address it?  I have done a reset all settings already and that did not help.

    Hi, everyone.  I talked to Apple Genius at Apple Store last week, she said it should be a software issue and I needed to reset my iphone 6 plus as a new device and I can not use the backup restore from my iCloud, it was because the microphone bug or glitch can be in the backup also. Ok, followed her advice, erased all contents and set my iphone as a new device , the microphone worked for an hour, but went bad again.  I used "voice memo" app from Apple to test the microphone. It is the best tool since it doesn't involve any provider's network and it doesn't need another person's phone to listen and test.  If you can hear your voice recording clearly, then the mic works.  I tested it 3-4 times a day for a few days now, half of the time the mic doesn't work.  So, set as a new device isn't working. The issue is intermittent and it comes and goes as it likes, so very annoying. I carry my Apple EarPods with me in these past few days ust in case I need to make important phone calls.  Will need to go back to Apple Genius this weekend for sure.  Will give update after the weekend.

    You didn't mention what country your Online Number is in.  Not all of Skype's Online Numbers are eligible for use as Caller ID when calling telephones or sending SMS messages.  If your number is from one of these countries (Chile, Denmark, Estonia, Hong Kong, Poland, Sweden, the UK and the US), then it can be used this way.  Otherwise, you can use a mobile number from countries other than Japan or Mexico as Caller ID with Skype, after the number goes through a verification process where Skype sends SMS messages with codes to that number.
    To get to these settings, log into your Skype account here on the Skype web site using the "Account" link at the top of this page.  You'll see a screen that would include your current Caller ID settings, and a link to change that.  If your Online Number is from one of those countries I referenced above, just select it and you're done.

  • Form Designed in LiveCycle will not work for End User

    I am a newbie to Adobe LiveCycle but recognized the utility in the program, so decided to give it a while to try and streamline some of my employer's forms.  After spending too much time learning how to design a form (much to the dislike of my boss), I am finally going to have to ask for some help.  So here's the deal:
    I've designed a dynamic pdf in LiveCycle with two master pages and two repeating flowed subforms.  The first repeating subform is basically an expanding table intended to be used as a photographer's log where they can log each photo taken with the camera.  The expanding table has some code with a button at the top for the end user to enter the number of photos on the photo roll, click submit, and table expands to however many instances of rows are needed for each photo that was taken.  The second subform is basically an image field and text fields used as photo captions/photo compilation pages.  When the end user clicks submit on the first subform to expand the table, I also have javascript in that click event to also create same amouint of instances of the second subform (the photo compilation page(s)).  Each text field for the photo caption on the second subform is populated by the data entered into the photo log table cells.  I was able to find a script to correctly populate those fields for each instance of the table.  Wish I had the form here, but it's at work at the moment.
    My problem is this: I've scratched and clawed to get all of the forms expanding correctly and the scripts populating each instance of the fields correctly and everything works great in LiveCycle preview.  I then saved the form as PDF for use by my field crew personnel (whom all use, at the very least, Adobe Pro 9, but most Pro X).  I sent the new form to them and they move it to their desktop, open it with Adobe Pro, and populate all of the fields and everything works swimmingly.  However, once they save it, it gets all jumbled and they can't even print it.  We even thought we found a workaround by entering all data and printing to PDF, but even that has turned out to not work.  I checked to make sure that I designed and saved the form in LiveCycle for use with the Adobe Pro versions, but still not working for my end users.
    Anyone have any thoughts on my long explanation??  Please HELLLLPPPP!

    The error(s) occur when trying to save the document.  I want each user to tell the first page how many rows they will need in the photo log table, so they would enter however many photos were taken in the box: "Number of Photos on Roll:"  ---> Then click the "Submit" cmd button.  That should expand the table.  Once it expands, it should also add the same amount of instances of the photo compilation page (2nd Page) as there are rows in 1st page table.  Then the user will populate each cell of the table on page 1 with data.  The data entered into the page 1 table cells will populate the text fields (photo caption) in Page 2 once the user clicks on the "Populate Captions!" cmd button in the lower left corner of the table on Page 1. 
    The problem is in the distributing of the form to the user so they can save the form after populating the data.  I did a test run this morning and for some reason it did do the "print to PDF" correctly for 5 photos on the roll (though this has not been happening every time and especially for a large number of pages, ie. 80 photos).  However, after entering the data for 5 rows on page 1 and then populating the 5 photo compilation pages, I saved a copy as "Save As PDF" and closed the document.  Then re-opened the copy in Acrobat Pro X.  The new copy:
    -had 5 additional rows added to Page 1
    -Duplicates of some of the fields
    -Only retained the 1st instance of the Second Page (Photo w/ Caption) and not all fields were populated
    Again, this all works fine in the LiveCycle Preview but not anywhere else.  I do not have this set up to be linked to an external data source (YET) but there is javascript in the cmd buttons.  I also do not want to distribute this form to end users and then collect the data back from them.  I want them to be able to save a copy of my LiveCycle designed form, open in Adobe Pro, populate the data and save as many copies as needed for form production.

  • CS4 suite serial number does not work for Adobe Acrobat Pro

    I am looking for a solution for the serial number issue I am having with Adobe Acrobat Pro. All of other programs within the suite open fine, but when I open Adobe Acrobat Pro it asks for a serial number. When I type in the serial number, I am given a red "X".
    I have called customer support, but they haven't been able to give me any information that will resolve my issue (uninstalled 4 times now). I have Vista and have looked online and on the Adobe website to find a solution. It looks like others are having the same issue from what I can tell while searching. I have run the script too and then reinstalled, but still nothing.

    After some stupid upgrade in my computer (who knows as Microsoft is always doing something), my Acrobat 9 in CS4 stopped working. The error message said to uninstall and reinstall Acrobat. So I went through the control panel and uninstalled it. I then loaded the CD and reinstalled. However the reinstall would NOT accept the orginal serial number. I called Adobe and they gave me a different serial number. Before I let the guy nof the line I tried the  number and it did NOT work! So then he gave me another number which  asked for the previous verison- apparently it was an upgrade number. Luckily I had my old CS3 software and I gave it that number and then it accepted the install. The program now works BUT there is no longer any ADD/REMOVE choice in the CS4 suite in the control panel. There is no way to automatically remove this program anymore! What a mess.
    After reading some of the installation problems others have had and no solutions, I count myself lucky! At least I was able to get the program running.
    Therefore my advise on the serial number problem is to get Adobe on the phonen and get them to give you a number that will work, and don't hang up until you know the program is working!
    If anyone knows how to add the Acrobat to the the add/remove functions in the control panel, please let me know!
