IMovie exporting entire video instead of clip

I've imported a 14 minute video into iMovie.  I've clipped a 3 minute section of the video and finalized my project.  When I export that project, it's the entire 14 minute video.  What am I missing?

I imported a lot of footage. I edited it down to about 10 minutes of clips.
I go to file > share > export file
The number of minutes shows 56, not 10. When I select all the included footage at the bottom, it says 10 minutes, when I go to export file, it says the file I am saving is 56 minutes. What am I doing wrong?
Check what is in the Timeline:

  • HD export doesn't export entire video.

Any help with the following problem would be appreciated:
I am having several problems exporting HD video right now. All of my HD is being filmed on a Panasonic HVX-200. We are usually using 720-30p or 60p either on tape or to our P2 card. It is being captured as DVCPRO-HD at those same frame rates. Everything captures well and can be edited without issues. We are using the most recent updates of OSX and FCP.
Export problems - using a variety of different quicktime export codecs the same problems occur.
    1) export stops short of exporting the entire video. (example: only the first 6 minutes 12 secs of a 8:50 video export to quicktime) This happens regardless of the length of the video (sometimes) and regardless of the quicktime export setting - even when downconverting to DV-NTSC. (I have tried all of the DVCPRO HD settings, Apple ProRes settings, Intermediate Codec settings, and HDV settings) I have tried setting in and out points at the beginning and end of the video as well. Nothing seems to help.
    2) We are also having a weird "dropped frame" glitch. The same video - when exported seems to be dropping a frame at the junction of many of the clips on the timeline. These don't occur when the video is being played back in the timeline - only after export. This is really annoying and we can't seem to make it go away. I'm wondering if this might be related to our using DVCPRO-HD codecs.
    Thanks.

Your issue is that you are exporting in the trial mode of Flip4Mac. Quicktime cannot export WMV without F4M. The free downloadable player has all the features of a paid version, but with limitations, so that you can try it out and see if it meets your needs. you only get 1/2 the duration, up to 30 seconds, for an export in trial mode. I think it's $49 for the Studio Pro version. To upgrade, go to the F4M prefs.

  • Flicking entire video over one clip!

    Hello everyone.
I've done everything I can think of, including browsing all forums and trying things others have suggested that are close to my issue.  Nothing works.
I have clips in a timeline, with title clips for text and such.  Standard stuff.  On some clips, I can set speed to 90% and set clip to "always deinterlace" and they work fine, no flicker.  Other clips I do the same thing and the entire video flickers horribly.  I checked the specs on both clips and they are the same.  The only difference I can see is that the clips that don't flicker when speed changed to under 100% were captured a year or so ago.  The flicking clips were captured this week.  Same camera for both.  I did upgrade to CS5 between these captures, but can't see how that would make a difference?
I did an entirely different project with recent clips just fine a couple months ago.  No idea why I have problems now -- unless it's a combination of older and newer captured clips?  But that still doesn't make sense?
All display fine at 100% speed.
The biggest thing I don't understand is why the entire video flickers?  The titles (with text) flicker really badly.  Changing the speed of the clip (track 1) changes the flickering in the titles (tracks 3 and 4).  How could a clip affect other tracks?
I've spent hours on this already and I'm at a loss.  Attempted time remapping instead of speed, tried every combination of de-interlacing, anti-flicker, etc.
I have a new machine, Win 7 Pro 64, 8GB ram, i7 quad, big video card/ram, etc.  CS5 with all latest updates.  I run nothing but CS5 on this machine.  Sequence settings 29.97 drop-frame, DV Widescreen, NTSC.

    hi
i think it's a premiere problem (unfurtunatly not the only) not your
i have win 7 with cs 5.0.3 + nvidia 470 + matrox rtx2 and i've the same problem, when i change the speed or i put PIP sometimes video flickering, my video arePAL SD,  IT'S VERY sad, i think cs3+matrox rtx2  was the best solution, unfortunately missed full hd,  now premiere prefer nvidia than matrox but nvidia help you just in preview but matrox help you in rendering and more

  • I just recently upgraded to iMovie 10.0.1.  Now whenever I import video longer than 30 minutes, it automatically splits it at 30 minutes.  How can I get my entire video clip at once without a break again?

As long as you know your serial number you can download PSE from here:

    Hi MyAppleID99,
You may want to check to make sure the clip hasn't been moved back and forth between wide screen and standard aspect ratios; sometimes a combination of letterboxing and pillarboxing can lead to a black frame "windowbox" when playing the final video. You may find the following article helpful:

    Thanks,

  • Does iMovie support 4K video editing and export?

Does the latest version of iMovie support 4K video export? I have seen that it supports XAVC-S from Sony, but I do not know if 4K XAVC-S is supported too.
    Thank you for answer.
P.S.: If not, would it be able to in near future?

    Hi Tomas J
the problem is that if you have nothing but 4k XAVC clips in the card and you try to import from the Import window
FCPX will not see the card as a Camera and only as a Volume. You cannot do Camera archives from a volume but you are able to do Camera Archives if it is detected by FCPX as a Camera.  The reason I like to do Camera Archives is that that way I transfer the whole content of the SD card in one pass to a container that I can transfer to any HD that is hooked up or connected to the computer usually avoiding the main or boot drive and I can bring that container or Archive into the Favorites column of the import window pf FCPX ,opened and start importing from there. This has two main advantages 1 Once I create the archive and have all my clips in its container I can wipe the card clean and start using it again, 2 If I placed it in the Favorites colum of the import window I can open it and start importing to FCPX as if it was any card, Also you can move this container or archive any where as long as it is connected to your computer and if you have finished and don't plan to use it anymore you can store it for keeps with all the original files you shot in any storage for keeps. You also preserve the file structure of the SD card  That is why I need FCPX to recognize the SD card as a CAMERA AND NOT AS A VOLUME when using 4K XAVC-S clips.  The way you are doing it may be ok up to a point only for a few clips here and there but if you're preserving or making a Movie of you vacation or other events that would be an Immense task.
The Sony AX-100 camera that you have has the same file structure that the AX-33 if you import nothing but 4K XAVC-S clips without mixing mp4 or AVCHD ON THE SAME CARD Have you found the same problem????
    Thank You,
    AppleLou

  • Unable to upload entire video clip to Youtube from Premiere Elements 10, "Share" feature

    Hi all,
I just bought Premiere Elements 10 and plan to upload video to Youtube directly from Premiere Elements 10 "Share" feature. However it always uploaded about 10 to 20 seconds of my 2 minutes video only. Then it only uploded about 20 seconds video to Youtobe successfully but not the entire video clip which is about 2 minutes.  Is there anyone face the same problem like me? Please help me on this matter. Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Ellie

    John,
The WAB (Work Area Bar) has tripped up many, and is a common issue, when the Timeline output is truncated.
Here is a look at the WAB (from PrE 4.0, but works the same in later versions):
The WAB is a great tool, when one wishes to limit the Export, or perhaps the area of the Timeline that Renders. However, many do not even notice it, and fewer understand how it works, or how to use it, and it gets in their way, if something is not set properly.
To the OP - Good luck,
    Hunt

  • When exporting a video from iMovie the video is not stabilized.

HI I'm making a video in iMovie and had to stabilize some of the clips using iMovie. When the video is played back on my Mac they video seems to be
stabilized. But once I export the video to either .mov .mp4 or export to iTunes in 720 format the video played back on other devices looks like I never
stabilized. Any ideas or suggestions to why this would happen and how to fix it?

    Hi
    Just thinking.
Video Sequence - From Event's - will not be stabilized on Export
From Project's and ticked in info window to apply to clip - Will on Export (at least have ever done so for me)
IF this do not work I would
    - Close iMovie
    - Start a New User Account
    - Log into this
    - Then try iMovie from here (Yes You might need to Re-Import / Re-Create a Project to test)
If it now works - My guess is - 99.5% iMovie Pref. or Casche files - need to be trashed in the Old User account Library.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Exporting iPhoto video to iMovie 8

I have been trying to export iphoto video to my desktop and converting it to a format so that importing it into imovie 8 would preserve the sound. The iphoto videos are mpeg1 movie format. Is there a format that will include the sound of the clip for imovie 8. Thanks, John

The iphoto videos are mpeg1 movie format.
Use and MPEG-based, third-party application like MPEG Streamclip (free), iSquint (free), FFmpegX (donation-ware, Visual Hub (pay-ware), etc. to convert your files to DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, H.264, etc.
Is there a format that will include the sound of the clip for imovie 8.
QT conversion removes the audio. Use a third-party, MPEG-based converter.

  • Exporting entire sequence (MPEG-2 DVD) exports entire sequence audio but only 2/3 video?

I'm certain this is something simple but can't for the life of me figure out what is going on here.   My entire sequence is 24:10 long.  Export produces a video file that is 17:19 long and an audio file that is complete (24:10).  Looking at my sequence, 17:19 is precicely in between two clips (of dozens) but there doesn't appear to be anything interesting/unusual about either of those clips or the break and transition between them?
    Help!!?   THANKS in advance!

Either by playing the video file (it ends precisely between those two clips) , viewing it's length metadata in Windows, or after importing in to DVD Flick to burn a DVD.
Since I posted this question I tried exporting with H.264 YouTube preset and got entire sequence exported fine (video and audio).
Sent from a mobile device.  Excuse brevity.

  • How to copy/export a video clip from event library to external hard drive?

Can you help? Can you export a video clip from the iMovie Event library to a hard drive

You can "daisy chain" FireWire devices. Plug your IF into the Mbook, and plug your external disk into the IF (it has two ports...), or do it the other way around, whatever seems to work best.
The whole chain will be as fast as your slowest device, and I think the FPod is FW 400, so the disk will also operate at that speed. Many people work like this on their laptops, and it works fine. Better than USB.
Don't use USB for it. USB needs CPU and is in general less efficient in handling audio. Daisychaining FW-devices is the way to go.

  • HT201066 exporting QT video clip to loop as a .3gp on android phone

exporting QT video clip as a .3gp so it plays on an android phone / trying export the clip so it loops / is that possible? / i save it looping and then reopen on my mac and it still loops / transfer to the android phone and it no longer loops

    Hi,
I ended up exporting my presentation, without sounds, on QT. Then in imovie, I added the sounds...
This is a little constraining, but that functions…
Thus I have a good film with synchronizations which function !

  • MacBook Pro '11 "Stops Charging" as soon as iMovie Exports Video.

MacBook Pro '11 stops charging as soon as you start exporting video from iMovie. A video demonstration in the link explains the phenomena.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnpB5G2pgMI

Respectfully, I disagree with your claim that nothing is wrong.
While I understand the behavior is by design, most users - myself included, believe that when the laptop is plugged in, it's charging and can operate indefinitely as long as it's plugged in. Instead, a Macbook will, in certain circumstances, shut down completely if under heavy load for too long. Heavy load isn't just rendering complex 3D designs or transcoding HD video - things many users will never do - but it does include activities as seemingly trivial as playing videogames or watching Netflix where playing for too long when the battery is significantly less than full exposes the user to a very possible shut down.
Just this evening, my MacBook Pro (2011) nearly died while transcoding video in Final Cut Pro - while it was plugged in. This is a real problem for a pro user on the road. Simply being plugged in is not enough when historically it has been.
Again, I understand that the MacBooks exhibit this behavior by design, but it is a design that is counter to most people's experience of electronics.
Rather than have this simply be "the way it's designed," how about Apple consider providing an option that reduces the maximum system load to a lower threshold that will allow for effectively indefinite runtimes (keeping in mind engineering concerns like heat dissipation)? I'd be willing to deal with lower clock speeds (and the resulting lengthier processing times) in certain scenarios of my choosing if it means my project won't be exposed to an unwanted shut down like it nearly did tonight. This is feedback I intend to submit to Apple after tonight's episode.
While I'm no longer concerned that something's wrong with my MacBook Pro, I don't believe the current "normal" behavior is good enough for a $2,000+ laptop for professionals.
