Implementing CPUID assembly codes in 12.4 Beta C++ file results in iropt Error

Hi,
In BOOST 1.56, the CPUID implementation is not available for Solaris 11.2 when compiling the file "libs/log/src/dump.cpp". So I have tried to implement the CPUID-equivalent code below:
private:
  static void cpuid(uint32_t& eax, uint32_t& ebx, uint32_t& ecx, uint32_t& edx)
     __asm__(
         "cpuid;"                                        /* assembly code */
         :"=a" (eax), "=b" (ebx), "=c" (ecx), "=d" (edx) /* outputs */
                                                         /* clobbers: none */
and compiling the file "libs/log/src/dump.cpp" results in some weird iropt errors:

My guess is that Solaris Studio C++ does not support CPUID feature. Does anyone know about this iropt errors and whether has there been a workaround / fix for CPUID feature? Kindly advise. Thanks.
Regards,
Brian

Hi Alexander,
I have finally reproduced the weird iropt error. The test code when compiled with -xO4 optimization level triggers the weird iropt error.
Test_CPUID.cpp:
#include <sys/types.h>
#include <sys/stat.h>
#include <fcntl.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <errno.h>
#include <stdio.h>
static int cpuid(uint32_t& eax, uint32_t& ebx, uint32_t& ecx, uint32_t& edx)
     __asm__
         "cpuid;"                                        /* assembly code */
         :"=a" (eax), "=b" (ebx), "=c" (ecx), "=d" (edx) /* outputs */
                                                         /* clobbers: none */
     return 1;
int main()
  unsigned int eax, ebx, ecx, edx;
  int i;
  cpuid(eax, ebx, ecx, edx);
  return 0;
Run it with this command (with or without -noex does not matter):
CC -xannotate=no -noex -mt -xO4 -Qoption iropt -Rloop_reform   -c -KPIC  -o Test_CPUID.o Test_CPUID.cpp
If this command is run below at -xO1 optimization level as the suggested workaround, it throws a different error:
CC -xannotate=no -mt -xO1 -Qoption iropt -Rloop_reform -c -KPIC  -o Test_CPUID.o Test_CPUID.cpp
assertion failed in function fwAsmStmtArg() @ iexp1.c:415
assert(ex_op_(actual) == EOPRVAL)
CC: Fatal error in /opt/SolarisStudio12.4-beta_jul14-solaris-x86/lib/compilers/ube : Segmentation Fault
The compilation is successful if no optimization levels are specified (-xO1 or -xO4 omitted).

Brian

  • Assembly Code required ?

    Hi Experts
    I want to know in every example of SDK there is a assembly code module Is it required and what is the role of this
    Regards
    Gorge

    Hi Gorge,
    Assembly.vb or Assembly.cs just holds details of your project (eg version number, copyright etc). It's a Visual Studio convention and not directly related to the SDK. You can read this information back programatically to display in your application (eg in a Help--About window). It also appears in the Version tab if you right-click your addon executable and choose properties in Windows Explorer. I think the only one that has any significant use (other than for display) is AssemblyCulture (which should ONLY be set if this is a satellite assembly for a particular culture).
    The properties are set in the Project Properties screen (there should be an Assembly Information button on the Application page) or you can update the class code directly.
    You do not have to set any properties and the file can be ignored but it's not a bad idea just to quickly go and set the core details.
    Kind Regards,

  • I need help getting a new code for the yosemite beta because mine says it's already been used

    I signed up for the yosemite beta and when I clicked the code to download the beta, nothing happened. I backed out and did it again and then it said the code was already in use. I have tried refreshing the page with the code in safari but the same one keeps coming back. I also signed out of the app store and logged back in to see if it was in my purchases and it doesn't show up. I need a little help here getting the beta.

    There's a lot of results in Google when you search for this but unfortunately refreshing the page doesn't seem to generate a different code anymore. Mine also says already redeemed

    What problems are you having with 64 bit Lightroom?

  • Anybody write Java assembly code?

    I recently stumbled onto the Jasmin (http://jasmin.sourceforge.net/) and BCEL (http://jakarta.apache.org/bcel/) projects and have a question for all the Java developers out there.
    Have any of you ever written Java assembly/byte code directly instead of writing Java source code? You're probably asking "why the hell would someone write Java bytecode when they have a great high-level language like Java?" Well that's what I want to find out. Why would you write Java assembly code? What cool things have you done with Java assembly code?

    -insert tracing instruction before every executable statement of code for dynamic coverage analysis.
    -insert timing instructions at the top and bottom of every method for dynamic profiling
    -generate dynamic stubs/ adapter code
    Folks generally don't program using java assembly, as far as I know, but use these tools to programmatically create/alter code.

  • Insert Assembly Code into C++?

    Hi, every one,
    I am writing a segment of assembly code inserted into the C++ code. During the compiling using Solatis Sparc v8 C++ compiler, I felt a bit confused at the following error:
    Linking
    Undefined Symbol first referenced in file
    lock ..../libatsup.so( this is my created lib)
    My code looks like:
    Error atomic_lock(volatile int *lock)
    asm("retry:");
    asm("ldstub [lock], %l0");
    My question is how to declare the variable "lock" in the atomic_lock?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    -Yuzhong

    Sorry for the confusion. I was assuming that your assembly routine is simple enough to be leaf routine. So, it need not have a save in the prologue. If you have a save, your input args. will be in %i0-%i6. Depending on the prototype of the atomic lock function you are writing, access the arguments in %i0 and so on. If you don't need new register window, (don't call other function and no stack space needed) the args. will be in %o0-%o6. The easiest way is to write a similar(skeleton) code and compile it into assembly and fill in atomic instructions.
    You have to declare the function as
    extern "C" {
    void atomic_op(int *lock,......); // exact code depends on your design
    in other files where you refer it.

  • Implementing a serial code method to your application, any advice?

    What would be a free and less complicated way to implement a serial code function to a Mac application to allow trials and shareware? And no, I'm not going over to the Mac App store!

    I haven't come across annotations for the digital graphs, but that won't really help anyway. What I need is a way to group, for example, 8 1-bit samples into an 8-bit word. Annotations could create labels, but I'd still get transitions for each bit. I would prefer that the collapsed view show the 8-bit words and the expanded view show that plus the actual bit transitions. I'm looking for something like the SPI example in this link but of course the data in this case is implicitly clocked so I don't need to show a clock as well.
    I managed to hack up the example as shown here:
    I don't like this because I had to create and interpret several "states" in each sample and fix those samples at the same value to create labeled field in the collapsed waveform. It's ugly and it has the "+" to expand it. I can cancel if the user clicks the plus, but the plus is still there. There is also no way to color in the transitions to match the background of each state.
    Hopefully that makes sense and someone has a solution.

  • Assembly code in XCode

    Hello everybody!
    I'm new to XCode. I have the latest version of XCode under Tiger.
    I would like XCode to generate an executable from an assembly code source file. I've searched in many discussions and technical articles in Apple site, but I didn't find anything answering this question.
    I'm sure it must be possible without having to use the line command in a shell...
    Can someone tell me how I should proceed to do this?
    I must add that I have no problem in making C++ or C programs work with XCode.
    Thanks a lot for any help!

    Hi
    Generally, in Unix based systems, a.out is an executable; however, Mac OS X by default doesn't look in the current folder and double clicking doesn't always work if the executable doesn't use a GUI.
    I suggest you try executing the program by starting a Terminal window, then using a cd command to get to the folder, then typing: ./a.out
    The "./" part tells OS X to search in the current folder.

  • Assembler code example to can application using 8051

    Hi,
    I am developing a CAN application using 8051 family microcontrollers. I need recognize the information coming through Rxdc pin. So far, I was not able to do this. Where can I get some assembler code example for this microcontroller? Someone has one ?
    Thanks.

    Hello-
    Unfortunately, we only provide source code for the NI-CAN boards in Windows under CVI and LabVIEW. The Philips site may have some examples. I believe that they actually sell a CAN chip that is integrated with an 8051.

  • Having problem implementing array in code?

    I am trying to write a code that will ask the user to either enter in a name of a reds baseball player, a batting average, or a slugging percentage. When this is entered the name of that corresponding player will pop up along with his stats. The code that I have so far is written below. I just need help in the three areas of my if statements so that if the user types in a name, average, or slug percentage then that player and stats will come up from the file in my program(stats.txt).
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class BattingStats
    public static void main(String[]args) throws IOException
    String option=selectOption("Select a search option"))
    getPlyrName();
    //need help here?
    if(option.equals("listBatAvg"))
    //need help here?
    if(option.equals("listSlug"))
    //need help here?
    private static void readSomeLines() throws IOException
    String filename="stats.txt";
    FileReader fr=new FileReader( filename);
    BufferedReader br=new Buffered Reader (fr);
    String sLine=br.readLine();
    while (sLine != null)
    String[] stats = sLine.split("\t");
    sLine=br.readLine();
    br.close();
    public static String selectOption (String prompt)
    String option=" ";
    int choice= JOptionPane.showOptionDialog(null, prompt, "Cinncinnati Reds player stats", JOptionPane.DEFAULT_OPTION, new Object[]
    "Search for a particular players stats", "List stats in decending order based on slugging percentage"
    if (choice==0)
    option="searchPlyr";
    if(choice==1)
    option="listBatAvg";
    if(choice==2)
    option="listSlug";
    return option;
    public static String getPlyrName () throws IOException
    String name=JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null, "Enter players name?");
    return name;
    }

    I assume that there will be more than one line in each txt file. Your code appears to loop through the file lines but does nothing with them. I think you need something like:
    import java.util.ArrayList;
    ArrayList allResults = new ArrayList();   //Declared at the top of your program
    allResults.add(stats);
    I reproduce your code below with some amendments.  I think you would have a hard time compiling this without my amendments.  I am not sure about some of the details but atleast it will now compile.  You should compile and run your code regularly so that you only have one or two errors to deal with.  You should add occasional System.out.println("Message") statements to help you understand what the code is doing.  You can comment them out when you are confident.
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class BattingStats
         public static void main(String[]args) throws IOException
              // OK Java is object oriented so get rid of static and
              // create a BattingStats object
              BattingStats b = new BattingStats();
         public BattingStats()
              String player = "";
              String option=selectOption("Select a search option"); //Removed surplus bracket
              try
                   player = getPlyrName();
              catch (IOException ioe)
                   System.out.println("Error in getting Player name");
                   System.out.println("Program terminating");
                   System.exit(1);
                   //need help here?     <<< Sort out file reading first
              if(option.equals("listBatAvg"))
                   //need help here?
              if(option.equals("listSlug"))
                   //need help here?
         private void readSomeLines() throws IOException    // Static removed

              while (sLine != null)
                   String[] stats = sLine.split("\t");
                   sLine=br.readLine();
                   //The above is fine but surely you have more than one line
                   //if so your data is being read and dropped.

    Can anybody tell me what could be the problem?
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi Sireesha,
    According to me, there can be 3 problems,
    1. Kindly check whether the MDM server is stopped. If it is, then restart the MDM Server and Load the repository with Update indices.
    2. If this error is coming with every repository, the problem will be either in the Version mismatch of the Server and the GUI's you are using. Kindly ensure that the versions for the MDM server and the MDM Gui's Match.
    3. If only Data manager Client is giving the problem, then you can un-install and install the DM GUI again.
    Along with this, please refer to the link below :

  • Exchange Server 2013 Missing file on ISO install Error Code 1603

    Hi all,   a mystery needs solving any suggestions much appreciated:
    We are trying to install Exchange Server 2013 on Windows 2012 server.
    The ISO File being used is: SW_DVD9_Exchange_Svr_2013w_SP1_MultiLang_Std_Ent_MLF_X19-35118
    All preparation and requisites in place.
    During Stage 2 Copying files, we receive an error code 1603 and installation halts.
    The error states:
    Installing product F:\exchangeserver.msi failed. Fatal error during installation. Error code is 1603. Last error reported by the MSI package is 'Source file not found: F:\Setup\ServerRoles\ClientAccess\Owa\prem\version\resources\themes\base\0\microsoft.o365.controls.timeline.mouse.css.
     Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.'.
    We have verified that the Path in the error is correct and exists BUT the file is not present within the 0 folder.
    We have downloaded the ISO from our Action Pack resources twice and attempted 4 separate installations.
    We have tried both Mailbox/Client Access  and Mailbox only installations.
    The missing file: microsoft.o365.controls.timeline.mouse.css. Hopefully the only file misisng???
    Any ideas anyone, could we source a different ISO or copy of the file or ?????
    Many thanks in advance

    Had the same issue with Exchange 2013 SP 1 Downloaded as an ISO from the Volume License Center, installing on a new Server 2012R2 STD box. I found the equivalent file in another ISO but discovered it was just an empty CSS file. So the easiest way is to not
    bother trying to find the file but: 1) open notepad, 2) set save to "All Files", and 3) save an empty CSS file with that filename then place it in the directory indicated in the path given in the error. (Make sure it saves as
    a CSS and not as a TXT.)
    I reran the install and it completed without issue.
