Implementing EP6 on same server as BW3.1

We have plently of capacity on our BW server, running AIX 5.2, DB2 V8.1 and WAS620.
We are looking at installing EP6 SP10+ WAS640 onto this server to save the cost of creating a new LPAR.
What do people believe are the issues with doing this? and why would we? wouldn't we? do this.
Thanks

Hello Steve:
If you are upgrading:
It is about performance and future production scalability.
We ran into the same "small budget" landscape, on HP-UX. it worked fine in Development and Production environments, BW/SEM and WAS6.2. For a good performance, you'll need lots of RAM (4Gb or more). Keep in mind you'll have (in our case) two instances of (Oracle) databases (BW+portal), that will consume the server memory, not to mention WAS and InfoCubes daily referesh process.
SAP does not advice so. However, it is worth the test on sandbox to development environment first, stress test to memic a real load with full simultaneous user access, and  benchmark the performance and content response time.
WRT Scalability, it dependes on future of the landscape integration and utilization.
search SDN for "How to Perform SAP Enterprise Portal Load Testing" document (it is a 65 page PDF file, I don't have the URL handy), that will give some guidlines.
I hope this helped a bit.

  • WAS 6.40 and EP6 on same server

    Hi,
For the moment we have a WAS 6.20 on 1 server and a second server with EP6 sp2. We want to upgrade the WAS 6.20 to 6.40 and have the WAS 6.40 and EP6 on the same server to get back one of the 2 servers.
Is it possible and if yes what is better upgrade the WAS and install EP6 on the WAS and we can have the old EP6 server free or install WAS 6.40 on the samer server than EP6 repliacete or application from server WAS 6.20 and after kill 6.20 on the second server.
    I hope I was clear.
    Thanks for your help
    Jean Christophe

    Hi Jean Christophe,
I think I understand what you want to do.  Unfortunately there is no "upgrade" from Web AS 6.20 to 6.40.  It is a migration.  You have to install a new version of Web AS 6.40 and then install the new version of the portal.
Not knowing how much content you have in your Web AS 6.20 system and your SP2 portal, I can't give a clear idea what would be the best way to do this.
Here is an approach.  There are probably different variations.  Install on one of the boxes the WebAS 6.40. and then the portal.  Migrate the content from the system on the other box.  (either the portal or the WebAS)  that will free that box.  Then migrate the other content from the same box and remove that system.
One hint when installing the second instance on the same box as the 6.20. Make sure you choose the "custom" install option rather than the "default".  Custom will give you the option to change all the options on the install (like port numbers) so you don't run into conflicts with the 6.20 Web AS.
    Good luck,
    John

  • Multiple users connected to the same server

    Hi there,
I was wondering if this scenario would be possible to be implemented on a Snow Leopard Server installed on Mac Mini 2.66:
    - one iphone developer that needs to be remotely connected to the server to develop apps
    - one project manager that will handle the project files and documentation. He will login to the server and upload/download files
    - one app GUI designer that will login from time to time, to make the design in photoshop.
Can these 3 users be logged in the same time on the same server without any lag? Or this version of server will only support one user at a time?
    Thank you!

Yes, you can do ssh and terminal connections, but I'm guessing that's not what you want here; I'm guessing you're headed over from X Windows or (more likely) Windows Terminal Services.
Google for Aqua Connect and related for the path that you're headed toward.
In general, Apple Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server runs one seat and one keyboard and one display per station, whether it's an Xserve server or a MacBook or whatever.

  • Is it advisable for Content Server & Trex to be on the same server?

    Hi All,
Is it advisable for the SAP Content Server & Trex to be installed on the same server?
    Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Kr,
    Neil

    Dear Neil,
If you are actually implementeing this architecture at clients place, then it should be implemented even if client insist.
I was also in same situation. But I strongly apposed this requirement.
If you want to used this Architechture for trail purpose or demo where you dont have option of having the luxury of hardware.
Then you can try such thing.

  • BI 7.0 and ECC 6.0 in the same server

    Dear experts,
In my company the scenarion is like, we have installed ECC 6.0 in server where development work is going on.
Now we have requirement to implement the BI 7.0 in the same server as already BI content is existing in the same server.
    My question is
Is it possible to implement the BI on the same server?
If yes, is it possible to extract the data from the development client on the same server where ECC 6.0 running?
If No, then what is the use of the BI contents in the ECC 6.0 server?
    Regards,
    SUD

    Hi
    > it possible to implement the BI on the same server?
Yes, why not? But that will be a separate SAP installation with different SID.
    >If yes, is it possible to extract the data from the development client on the same server where ECC 6.0 running?
Yes, that is possible. Both the system will be having different Logical system name. You have to create a source system connection from ur BI to ECC system and then data extraction is possible.
    >If No, then what is the use of the BI contents in the ECC 6.0 server?
BI Content in ECC is there to facilitate data extraction from ECC to BI. It would provide you the structure of data extraction. Presence of BI Cont does not mean a ECC system will be working as BI system.
    Hope this clarifies your doubt.

  • Multi instance on same server

This is my first experience trying to load and set up Oracle from the dba point of view and I need some guidance. I have started having problems when loading 9i on the same server as the 8.1.7 instance. It wanted to overwrite files and was using the same ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_BASE for some files as I used in the 8.1.7 install, which I don't want since the products are loaded in different directories. Wherever possible, I specified a different HOME and BASE but apparently Oracle has a few places where it doesn't ask.
My intent: the database is in 8.1.7, no immediate intent to upgrade. Huge db. I am creating a 9i instance on the same Sun server to support iFS and a small subset of the data from 8.1.7. iFS will check the 9i table, create some xml id files that correspond to the records in the 8.1.7 db. There'll be views and a link between the instances to support fast refreshes to keep them in synch.
I think my problem lies in the file structure and where the profiles are. My .kshrc file references an application shell for the environment setup near the top of the file structure. That shell needs to support both environments or be split I think.
Can anyone suggest a file structure to support both installations without conflict and where the shell should be and how to implement it so I don't have conflicts?
    thanks
    Pat

the jury is still out to a degree, but i think we've identified the culprit(s) of our session bleed for anyone interested.  it boiled down to two problems.
    1.  var scoping issues.  unfortunately this was a fairly old application, written before we strictly employed best pracitices on var scoping variables within functions in all our cfc's.  we've fixed the bad code and our session bleed problems seemed to have stopped.  there is a great utility for checking code for var scoping problems available at: http://varscoper.riaforge.org/
    2.  a misunderstanding of how cflock with a timeout setting (and no throw on error)  behaves.  aside from session bleed, it turned out we had another issue in there, which was expected session values missing all together.  the crux of the problem is that we had set our cflock read/write timeout's to 30 seconds.  under the extremely heavy load, requests were routinely exceeding those timeout thresholds.  the locks were not set to throw on error, so when the timeout threshold was exceeded, the code within the lock ended up just being skipped.  this was leading to missing data in the session. temporarily we've simply increased the timeout setting to a large number, which has fixed our problem.  eventually we'll set these locks to throw on error and handle the exception in a more graceful manner.
    hope this helps someone.

  • ECC 6 with BIW on same server?

    Hi,
I am installing ECC 6 (ABAP) in one server, now there is a requirement for BW also, in ECC 6 version BW comes with the ERP 2005 CDs, and does SAP recommends to install in same server as well?.
(In ECC 5 I had a separate server for BW, and installed as another SID..can same is possible or along with ERP the BW also suggested)
    thanks,
    Mathew

    Hi Mathew,
Currently, you can only implement SAP ECC/SAP NetWeaver BI on the same server on a project basis. (You'll see this mentioned in the upgrade/installation guides for SAP ECC.) This means that you will need to get approval from SAP to pursue this option. SAP will review your project to determine whether we think you are a good candidate for this approach and monitor your project. Please see SAP Note 855534 for more information on this landscape option.
You can also find more on this in some of the threads on the Integration with mySAP ERP 2004 forum at SAP NetWeaver Technical Integration with ERP

  • Local jndi lookup - present in 1 appln, lookup in 2nd appln (same server)

    Hi,
    I have deployed 2 applications ( A.ear, B.ear ) on the same server.
There is ejb( has only local interface no remote interface ) which is present in A.ear.
Now I want to do a local jndi lookup of the ejb in 2nd application (B.ear )
Can we do this in weblogic ? Any ideas
I have an annotation like this in the ejb :
    @Stateless(name = "DisConfigManager", mappedName = "DisConfigManagerImpl")
    @Local
    Regards,
    Harsha

    Harsha,
I'm not very knowledgeable on granular details of the EJB specification, but I don't think local ejbs are accessible to other applications.
Consider this snippet from this old OReilly link:
    http://onjava.com/pub/a/onjava/2004/11/03/localremote.html
Before you start running to implement local client view into your application, you need to be aware of some restrictions. Local client view can only be accessed:
When enterprise beans are packaged within the same EJB-JAR package.
When enterprise beans are packaged within different EJB-JAR packages, but everything is still packaged within the same application's EAR package.
When a web component in a WAR file is packaged within the same application's EAR package.
Local client view cannot be accessed:
When an EJB or web component is packaged in a different application's EAR packages.
When a web component is deployed in a web container, and EJBs are deployed in an EJB container, and these containers are separated (even if they are running on the same machine).

  • Can CPS be installed multiple times on same server

We have implemented CPS in our environment but want to know
if CPS and can be installed multiple times the same server. We are
using Contribute 3 as the client but our users don't know if they
want to share administration for both Intranet and Public site
development. So we have to see what are real options are.
Thanks for any respones in advance.

When you say share administration are you referring to user
administration? There's no reason to need more than one instance
unless you are allowing them to independently manage their
    users.

  • ZfD and ZfS on same server? Centralized monitoring of disk usage? ZfS 6.5 or 7?

We have ZfD running on one server for approx. 600 users (Sybase db on

    10 Novell NetWare servers (NW 5.1 SP7 and NW 6.5 SP3)
Q1: Is it feasable to have the ZfS backend running on the same server that
    hosts the ZfD backend ?
We are trying to find a way to monitor all server for disk usage. Ideally
we want to get a view/report of all servers (regardless of Novell or
Microsoft) to see where each disk is at with regards to available space and
also see historical trends for disk usage.
Q2: Can ZfS do this for us? We are licensed to use it but so far we've
only implemented the ZfD 6.5.2 and are quite please with the results.
Q3: Also, since we are licensed to use the latest ZfD and ZfS, any reason
to implement ZfS 7 instead of ZfS 6.5? We know that ZfD 7 is pretty much
the same as ZfD 6.5.2 so we've decided to hold back on this upgrade. If we
move forward with ZfS, I'm guessing that sticking with same version being
used with ZfD is a good idea?

Yes, it's very workable with both ZFD and ZFS on the same box. ZFS can
monitor any of these features. It uses SNMP to do this on both netware and
    windows.

Yes, although ZFS7 subscribers can run on XP, but I don't think 6.5 can.
In a way, zfd and zfs are very separate and the patches do not have to
match, but if you can keep it the same, than do. :)

  • 2 repositories in the same server

Is it possible to have the 2 repositories in the same server or should we have a server for each repository? I have no clue about OWB, but we have been asked that question.
I found this in the documentation:
    in http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31080_01/doc/install.102/b28224/reqs01.htm#BGEEGJAC
You can have a single, unified repository. Or you can define separate repositories with one to contain design metadata and another to contain runtime metadata generated by the Control Center Service.
Install a repository on every server that hosts a target schema. If necessary, you can have a target schema without installing additional Warehouse Builder components on its server.
    Can someone please clarify?

    In short, yes you can.
    I have an 11g and a 10gR2 repository both on a 10gR2 database.
This is 2 different versions of a repository, so might not be quite what you meant.
What they refer to in the italicized wording is the way the now unified repository used to work and be setup commonly in pre 10gR2 work. It was broken up into a design repository that handled design and mapping metadata, and a runtime repository that handled runtime (deployment, execution) metadata generated by the control center service.
it works similarly now in 10gR2 but it is considered to be unified, meaning you can have just 1 repository transparently handle all of this. From this 1 repository you can design your objects, mappings, and access the control center and deploy the mappings and execute them as well.
You can have a split repo implementation where you have a design and runtime environment on separate servers. You can also have a unified repo implementation where they are unified and on the same DB server as well. You can even have a remote runtime environment if you want. Refer to this link to see more about this: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31080_01/doc/install.102/b28224/install_rep02.htm#BABJIHID
Basically, it is pretty flexible. You need to understand what you WANT or NEED in your technology footprint.

    Hi
I am trying to implement Dataguard to create physical stand by using the primary database on the same system in windows platform. My questions are:
    1. Is possible to implement on the same machine where the primary database resides. If so do i need to install a seperate oracle software i mean oracle home path on it for the standby. This question was asked because in one of my posting regarding the dataguard, one guy has specified that for implementing dataguard on same machine..i should have different Oracle_ Home paths. Is that true.
    2. If not is it possible to set the path like this in same machine and using same oracle_home path:
    Primary Dtabase --> oracle\product\10.2.0.4\db_1
    Physical Standby --> oracle\product\10.2.0.4\standby

    What is your Oracle version?

Yes that is possible. But there you have to use db_unique_name initialization parameter.Provide this params value different between primary and standby database. And do not need create additionally ORACLE_HOMEs.

  • Forward to different web-app on same server

I can forward a request from a servlet to another web-app on same server, but the authenticated principal is not propagated from original servlet to forwarded servlet. I'm using the requestDispatcher.forward(req, resp) method. It seems that if you forward to a web-app within same EAR or server than the user's identifty should be propagated.
