Implementing vacation Rule in Oracle BPM

Hi,
I am trying to implement vacation period rule for a user in Oracle BPM, then re assigning the task to his sub ordinate,
but the task is still in the user's inbox and not going to assigned user's inbox.
Can any one help me.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I'm not getting the business logic. But,the below link can be useful

  • Oracle BPM to Replace a System

    Greetings,
I am considering replacing an existing mission critical back office system with Oracle BPM. I've talked with references provided by Oracle, and in all cases these co's used BPM to improve processes and orchestrate workflow across systems, NOT replace a system.
Where would our business logic reside??? Would the system be a collection of components running inside BPM?
Although this could be done, to me, this doesn't seem like the intended purpose of a BPM tool. It just doesn't sit well with me that we'd use a business modeling and process tool to replace a mission critical solution.
    Thanks

Regarding your question about where the logic in a BPM process would reside, rather than rip and replace, you might want to first consider reusing assets from your existing applications inside an Oracle BPM process.
If you have a service bus, the components would be exposed to and invoked by Oracle BPM via as a web service. If you don't have a service bus, you could expose components directly inside of Oracle BPM if they are Java POJOs, web services, .NET assemblies, or databases. If you go this path, you'll lose the loose coupling SOA provides but you'll get your project going.
If you don't have component assets available for reuse, you can build logic inside automatic activities in a process. Again, if your developers would prefer to develop the components in Java or .NET, these could be exposed to the process and invoked when needed from inside the process.
Consider also exposing business rules in a rules engine if you have one. You can invoke these rules from inside a process. If you don't already have a rules engine, Oracle BPM has a simple business rules editor and rules engine that comes with it now. The benefit of this is that you are not hard coding rules inside a process. Instead you expose the business rules to the business people. This makes your processes more agile and easier to change. You won't have to wait for IT to change the process and redeploy the process into production. Business rules take effect immediately after the business person changes the rule.

    Hi,

Can any one help me in this how i can move forward to achieve this.
    Thanks in advance

Here's just a start. Here's a step-by-step explanation on how to use PAPI Web Service (PAPI-WS) to create a work item instance and then run the instance inside an activity in a process running on Oracle BPM Studio.
    http://www.4shared.com/file/128256802/f20abc7a/PAPI-WS_for_Oracle_BPM_Studio.html
Be sure to use the project that is in the zip file for this example.
If you need an example of how to use PAPI-WS on Oracle BPM Enterprise, go to this thread: PAPI Web Service (PAPI-WS) Example for Oracle BPM Enterprise Standalone
If you need a step-by-step example of how to use PAPI (the Java API) go to this thread: Creating a new work item instance in a process using PAPI
Sending notifications into processes is a bit daunting when you first start looking at it. The documentation is better than it used to be.

  • Rules of thumb for sizing an Oracle BPM 11g deployment

Anyone out there have some rules of thumb they are using to size out an environment for Oracle BPM 11g? I know processing power can vary widely for process complexity and amount of data floating around. Still, I get asked questions like how much processing power do I need for this solution? I have a current client looking at 2500+ potential human workflow users with 1000 concurrent at peak load. Short of running some performance test myself and extrapolating numbers I am at a loss. Hoping some others can chime in with some thoughts.

an update... my rule of thumb for 50 users has proven to be a bit high. Looks to be 30-40 per core when you split out the BPMN engine from other computing intensive processes such as the ESB. Without splitting up overall SOA/BPM functionality over multiple servers concurrent user counts of various technology really takes a hit.

  • Oracle Buisness Rule error with BPM

    Hi
I am trying to invoke a buisness rule from a BPM flow
The rule works fine when tested independently using a test function from Jdeveloper which invokes the corresponding rules decison_service.The rule takes input and output of xml type. The facts are created and rule doesnot have any validation errors.
However when invoked from BPM , I get the below error:
    Non Recoverable Business Fault :
Fact not found in the rule engine working memory, rule session execution failed. The rule session 10006 failed because an instance of the fact com.bt.nat.wsi._2005._06.grant.BES could not be found in the working memory of the rule session. This is most likely a rule modeling error. The decision service interaction expects the fact instance to exist in the working memory of the rule session. Check the rule actions in rule designer and make sure that a fact of the expected type is being asserted. If the error persists, contact Oracle Support Services. 10006
    Please help.

Assuming BES is your output type, you need to ensure that every path thru your rules results in "assert new BES".
Here are some next steps for you:
    1. you can turn on tracing in the rules SE to see what rules are firing,
    2. you can use a decision table and ensure there are no gaps,
3 you can use a low priority (advanced mode) rule that looks something like this:
    IF
there is no case where (
    BES is a BES
    THEN
assert new BES(/* default property values */)

  • Oracle BPM 10g /ALBPM log4j Implementation

    Hi All,
Could you please let me know the steps to implement log4j in oracle bpm 10g/ALBPM.
    Regards,
    Srinivas

While you can export an ALBPM 6.0 project and import it into Oracle BPM 10g, as you've seen you will not be able to use a project that is exported from Oracle BPM 10 project in ALBPM 6.0.
Just to clarify - it will appear to import, but you won't be able to open key elements (e.g. screenflows created in the 10g project) successfully.

  • Vacation Period settings in bpm workspace

    Hi,
I have enable vacation period for one user but still instacnes are being assigned to user and even vacation rule also is not working as expected. Please send me some documentation or sample which talks about vacation period configuration in oracle bpm 11g.
    Thanks

    Hi
I don't have solution for your problem, but I can make it worst (sorry :)).
We are using the latest SOA/BPM 11.5 + FP (Feature Pack) applied. When we apply the holiday calender rules to send task expirations, reminders, notifications, we want to EXCLUDE weekends like Saturdays, Sundays and some standard dates for US Holidays like New Year, Dec 25, ThanksGiving etc. BUT this is NOT working. A user gets reminder whether its saturday, sunday or a national holiday.
So keeping our issue in view, I am confident, may be your vacation settings may also not work.
Anyhow, we have a SR Opened with Oracle for this issue long back in Oct 2011. Still they are working on it.

  • Oracle BPM Composer and no ADF

    Hi Everyone,
We are planning to use Oracle BPM as our BPM engine. But our organization doesn't support ADF. So could anyone help to answer the below questions. Thanks a lot for your time.
    1) Can we use Oracle BPM Composer... Does Oracle BPM composer require extended ADF Domain?
    2) Default BPM workspace can't be used. So we need to build our own workspace. Are they any predefined framework to build a MVC or any other java framework to build workspace.
3)Could anyone let me know the additional things we should take care in case we don't use ADF domain.
    Thanks everyone for your time.

Oracle BPM Studio (JDeveloper) is used by developers to create processes, human tasks, the process instance payloads, the composite services used by the processes, complex transformations, business rules and the ADF UIs.
Composer is a business user oriented web based tool used by business analysts with similar capabilities.  Using Composer, business people can create and maintain processes, define process instance payloads, human tasks, process payloads, business rules.  Instead of creating ADF UIs, you create and test web forms using a web based UI web form designer tool that it comes with in 11.1.1.7. Because the forms built using Composer can only be viewed from the Workspace or WebCenter Spaces tools, and because you're not going to use the Workspace or WebCenter Spaces tools, you won't be able to use Composer to create your UIs.
You might want to rethink your decision to not use the Workspace or WebCenter Spaces tools, but because you're not going to use either one you will instead be building your forms using the form design tool of your choice.
Although I'd advise you against recreating it, you'll need to become comfortable using the different APIs Oracle BPM exposes if you're going to try to duplicate the Workspace and WebCenter Spaces tool functionality.
Here's the API JavaDoc and a few blogs that will give you some tips on getting started:

  • Is Oracle BPM for only modeling process?

    Hi
Is Oracle BPM only for Business process modeling? I know there is a PAPI java library to implement User Interface.
But i geuss it takes a lot of Time. We are planning to use Oracle BPM process and Stuts for front end.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Oracle BPM is similar to a pure-play process modeling tool in that it supports process modeling, documentation and simulation.
Here's where Oracle BPM and process modeling tools differ. Oracle BPM was built and architected from the beginning as a full lifecycle Business Process Management (BPM) tool. This means that it is a complete solution with modeling, logic / business rules, end user interface, runtime and BAM capabilities built into it from the beginning 10 years ago.
Go here http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13154_01/bpm/docs65/index.html and click on "Oracle BPM data-sheet" for a marketing take on it's capabilities. If you'd like a 3 hour hands-on tour through it, click on the "Oracle BPM Tutorial for new users" link. If you do the tutorial, be sure to ping this forum if you get confused - we'll be glad to help.
Undoubtedly, there's more than you wanted to know in this thread. At a minimum, take a look at the "End User Interface" paragraph below for my take on your Struts question. The nice thing about the forum is that others are sure to disagree with my recommendation and you'll get the benefit from their experience as well.
    Modeling
Oracle BPM was built with one process modeling diagram. It is simple, BPMN based and quick to learn. It supports the roles and the activities I need to build robust processes. I use the same diagram to explain the process to executives, managers, IT, SME and business analysts. As a business analyst, the tool is not complicated and can be learned in just a couple hours. As a developer, I use the same modeling diagram, but the tool profile I use is a robust IDE that lets me create the implementation details (objects, logic, integration to services and local testing). If I make a change as a developer, the business analyst can see the change if they look at the same process artifact (typically shared through a source control repository).
    Logic and Integration
Process modeling tools are not BPM tools so they are not intended to support the process logic or integration to your existing IT assets needed to execute a business process.
Oracle BPM can use a service bus as the intermediary layer to expose existing IT assets. Alternatively, Oracle BPM can expose and consume components directly if you do not have a service bus. These IT assets are stored in Oracle BPM's catalog for reuse by developers creating the logic needed inside Oracle BPM automated processes.
As a developer using Oracle BPM, I use templates and drag and drop to create much of my logic. Once I catalog an object it can be reused across multiple projects either by using the Project Dependency option or by importing the artifacts. I test my logic either by using the method editor debugger or at the process level. As I create objects used in my logic using Oracle BPM, I inherit attributes provided by introspected components. This means that if you have an ERP system object with 138 attributes, you do not have to rebuild this object from scratch in Oracle BPM.

Once I catalog an object it can be reused across multiple projects either by using the Project Dependency option or by importing the artifacts. End User Interface
Before deciding to create your own Struts based UI, examine the capabilities of the OOTB Oracle BPM Workspace. Others on this forum will disagree with this, but rebuilding the functionality of the Oracle BPM Workspace will take quite a bit of time and will require an in-depth knowledge of PAPI (Oracle BPM's API into the runtime Engine) knowledge.
End user interface screens and complex end user interaction with a variety of screens can be built inside the Oracle BPM toolset's WYSIWYG editor. The forms use the attributes of the objects described in the previous paragraph. There's a common misconception that you cannot have both client side and server side components invoked from the UI. This is simply not the case. You can use both client side and server side components to do cross field validation or provide lists for valid values.
If you'd been are a JSP shop you'd have had the flexibility to instead create your forms using the Oracle BPM tag library instead of the forms editor provided.
Since you're a Struts shop, your presentations will be exposed as "External" using Interactive activity Screenflows.
The forms you build are automatically presented in the OOTB Workspace.
    Runtime
End users interact with the processes at runtime using an OOTB Workspace. End users are given various roles. When they log into the Workspace, the end users only see the work item instances that are in the roles that they have been assigned. There is an Engine that stores the work item instance information as it flows through the processes at runtime. The Engine is like a traffic cop, ensuring that the right work item instance goes to the right person in the right activity at the right time.
    Hope this helps,

  • Upload facility for smart forms and expense account rules in oracle iprocurement R12.1.3

    Hi All,
We are implementing iprocurement for new operating unit.
We have many expense account rules and approximately 450 smart forms to be setup for new OU. But as part of R12, the setups are to be done through HTML pages.
Currently I do not see any option to upload these 2 items, as doing them manually will take lot of manual effort.
Are there any APIs available to load these 2 items? OR any workaround like using dataloader or isetup?
I am sure many clients are using R12 for very long time and not sure if there are any issues raised on this?
Could you please let us know if there are any options avialble to upload them?

How to Setup a Valid Vacation Rule for Purchasing Notifications (Doc ID 378023.1)
    Goal
What steps are required for proper setup of a Vacation Rule for routing of Purchasing Notifications?
    Fix
    1.  Enter the Notification Summary or Worklist for a user
    2.  Select the "Vacation Rule" link
    3.  Select the "Create New Rule" link
    4.  For Item Type select "All" for all Notifications or select the desired Notification Type from List of Values
    5.  Select the "Next" link to proceed to the next setup page for the rule
    6.  Enter both a a valid Start and End Date for the new rule
    7.  Ensure the "Reassign" radio button is selected
    8.  Keep "All Employees and Users" in the menu box
    9.  Select the "Delegate" radio button - Assign/Reassign action is prohibited for Purchasing Notifications
    10.  Select the Flashlight icon next to the blank menu box for selecting a user
    11.  A new sub-screen should pop-up to perform the user search
    12.  For "Search By" select "Username" - (DO NOT search by Name)
    13.  Perform the needed wildcard (%) search at the top of the page to locate the desired username
    14.  Click the radio button next to the desired name of the user to have the notifications sent to
    15.  Press the "Select" button followed by the "Apply" button
    16.  Continue on with the saving of the Vacation Rule for latter use
    Note:
The key to setting-up a valid Vacation Rule is to ensure the rule is tied to a Username rather then the Full Name of the desired user.  The reason for this is that the Worklist and Notification Summary for the user is linked to their username and not full name record.

  • Main differences between oracle bpm 10.3 vs 11g

    Hi.!!
Some one knows which are the differences between the last version and the 11g version of the oracle bpm.?
I need to know what are the differences to find out which version to implement a project...
    help me..!!

11g relies upon SOA suite components for much of the underlying infrastructure.
Interactive activities are no longer modeled using the simple JSF based ALBPM style screen flows and UI editor. In 11g the human workflow engine is used for this purpose - it handles user routing, notifications, data associations, etc. The actual implementation is done in ADF using task flows. This gives you more flexibility, with the caveat of a bit more complexity.
11g is a "codeless" environment. ALBPM style Automatic activities and PBL code are a thing of the past. Business logic is now performed either using Business Rules, or by calling Web Services. There are also adapters for accessing the database, FTP, and reading/writing files on the filesystem. Data flows through the process in the form of XML, some of which is abstracted away from the developer in the form of Business Objects in the catalog. However, knowing XML and XML related technologies is now much more important (XSD, XPath, XSL, etc.)
The Eclipse style IDE is no longer used for design time. JDeveloper is the new IDE. You can also use BPM composer for some online (it's a web based app) project design and publishing.
The Process Administrator app is now gone - that functionality is replaced by fusion middleware control (Enterprise Manager) and the workspace itself.

  • "Oracle BPM  Suite 11g" and "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" components

    Dear Friends,
I am very confusing about the "Oracle BPM suite 11g" and "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" and would like your help on explanation as the following :
I have learn that In order to use "Oracle BPM Suite 11g" require to have "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" components to install first. Does it means that :
    1) When we buy "Oracle BPM Suite 11g" , we automatically get the "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" components as well ?
    2) IS it correct that these " these Oracle SOA Suite 11g components" are included :
    (a) Oracle BAM
    (b) Oracle Business Rules
    (c) Oracle BPEL Manager
    (d) Oracle Service Bus
    (e) Oracle Complex Event Processing
    3) Do we have a right to use all of these components listed in (2) ?
    4) Then the answers in (3) is "YES", then Is it correct when the customer buy the "Oracle BPM Suite 11g" , they no need to buy "Oracle SOA 11g" any more when they would like to implements that applications based on SOA in the future (without using BPM) ?
    5) What IF , the customer would like to start with "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" product and decide to buy only Oracle SOA Suite 11g first ; then later on in the future they would like to implement BPM projects in the future. Can you upgrade "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" to include "Oracle BPM Sutie 11g" and pay only the price different ?
I hope you can help providing the answers to these questions. THank you very much in advance.
    Best Regards
    Pearapon S.

This is a question best answered by your Oracle reseller or Oracle account manager to give you all the details but I hope this brief answer helps:
    - The Unified Business Process Management Suite (BPM Suite 11g) includes: BPM Studio, BPM Composer, BPMN Service Engine and Workflow Extensions, BPM Process Spaces, and BPM Process Analytics.
    - BPM Suite 11g requires the licensing of SOA Suite 11g for Oracle Middleware which requires a license for WebLogic Suite.
    - You can license SOA Suite 11g now and license BPM Suite 11g later.
Since the products are layered, I don't see this cutting into SOA sales at all. My personal view is that BPM on top of SOA is brilliant since it provides easy integration between human and automated tasks, builds on many of the SOA concepts that are key for a successful BPM implementation (functional, not the Oracle product), and uses the same IDE. The synergies extend past easy use of services; the same business rules and human workflow components are used between both products.

  • Best Way to use Oracle BPM 10GR3

Can Oracle BPM 10GR3 be used as a MiddleWare where all complciated rules based logic for the process can reside and can be implemented within the tool
    Or
Is Oracle BPM 10GR3 used solely as a Orchestration tool?
    What is a better approach?

In many cases BPM 10g was used but for orchestration of services and human workflow as well as implementing business rules/logic for the process as well. Some implementations put more rule login within the process and some only use it to orchestrate services but I have seen both ways be very successful.
