Import anomalies

Hi all:
I am pleased to announce that someone who did not know an SQL statement from a serial number just four years ago did write 100% of the code and deploy successfully a highly customized, secure major internet application to a user base of close to 1000 in an organization of 15,000 members. Hurray for ApEx!
I would like to thank all of the members of the team that built Application Express for their incredible product. My application is one of the great achievements of my life, and it was made possible by your work. As Newton said, I stand on the shoulders of giants.
I would also like to mention two anomalies I have noticed invovled with importing new versions of the application. I believe they are related.
First, I have seen numerous times large chunks of white space or line breaks in the "Region Source" of an SQL Query report region. These breaks show up anywhere, including between parts of a string like right after a ||, or in other places. When I notice them I clean them up, but they seem to be only cosmetic.
The second issue is operational. It's not often, but I just saw it again for probably the 3rd or 4th time (I wasn't sure about it till now). Somehow the query that defines the SQL Query report region becomes altered with unseen characters perhaps? The result is that a perfectly functioning SQL report region starts throwing errors like:
report error:
ORA-20001: Error fetching column value: ORA-01403: no data found
This was the result in the incident that just happened, and it involved a SQL report region that I had not changed at all. I had no reason to even think about it until one of the users reported the problem. Well, after combing through my code and scratching my head repeatedly, I stripped out the entire Where clause and found it worked. I added each part of the Where clause one by one, until it was all back in. Guess what? It worked fine. The exact same code now gave a different result.
Is the system somehow throwing in a stray ASCII character that you don't see in the browser?
Well, the best part of this is it is reproducible!! I have the export file that was at fault and I can re-import it and run it to show the error. Then I "recompile" the Where clause and it works.
Any thoughts?
Regards
Bill

Scott
This problem is real, and I'm not sure what you mean by "maybe it's my editor". I don't process the export file; I just import it directly into another workspace.
I was working on an SQL Report Region today and trying to make a mod to the where clause but it was gone! I tried the app and entered text into the search field and lo and behold it worked anyway. I was totally confused until I noticed that there was a live scroll bar in the Source text area. There were about 15 line feeds and when I deleted them all my where clause showed up.
In another incident, the insertion of a line feed caused my javascript call to the FCKeditor code to fail. I had never seen the problem in that area before, only in the SQL Report Region. The problem was identified by a contractor we use and not myself.
I can't imagine why no one else has seen this unless they just fix it and move on.

  • Error messages during XML import of Project Pro 2010 files

    Hi folks,
I'm trying to diagnose a couple of sick Project Pro 2010 files loaded from Project Server by saving them locally as XML files and then reimporting (not connected to the server during import).  The anomalous behavior exhibited by both files
is that one takes 15 minutes to load from the server, while another takes over 20 minutes. These are not typical load times for this server.  In both cases, Project consumes about 25% of the CPU during the load process. There's little network I/O
while this goes on, and when externally linked schedules are loaded to the cache, they load very quickly.  Other than the long load times, the schedules appear to be behave normally, except for some very odd print preview behaviors in one of the schedules
that I asked about in a different thread (among other things, the default print preview start date is 17 years after the default finish date, and the finish date is about 11 years before the schedule actually starts).
The questions I'm asking here are about errors I see when I try to import the files exported as XML, and whether they might provide any clues as to what's causing the load time issues.
When attempting to import one of the files saved as XML, a pop-up appears that says, "The actual finish date is before some of the previously entered timephased actual work values. If  you continue with this operation, Project will truncate
some of the previously entered timephased actual work values. To continue, click OK..."
When attempting to import the other file saved as XML, I get a series of pop-ups identifying a series of tasks that say, "The timephased edit will cause 'Develop Requirements Review Meeting Mi...' to start before 'Conduct Requirements Review"
finishes.  As a result the task link cannot be honored.  You can: () Continue. Keep the timephased edit and ignore the link.  () Cancel. Ignore the timephased edit.  (OK/Cancel/Help)".
Interestingly, both files contain external Project Server predecessor / successor links.  In the case of the first file, the XML import just appears to strip those out.  In the case of the second file, I get a long series of pop-ups (with
some buggy text inserts) in pairs.  The first message in the pair is typically "An import error occurred.  The element <PredecessorLink> in the <Task> element with <UID>=611 has invalid data.  Verify that the file
name and path are correct, and then try again. (OK)", where the indicated UID varies. The second pop-up in the pair appears to have a buggy text constructor and looks like this, with "[stet]" indicating the apparent buggy text inserts,
"An import error occurred.  The element [stet] Verify that the file name and path are correct, and then try again. [stet] in the 309 element with <UID>=7 has invalid data. [stet] ^4 (OK)"
In the second pop-up of the pair, the "xyz element" varies, but the "<UID>=7" reference and "^4"  are consistent. In the XML, UID 7 appears to refer to a calendar, a task which includes a number
    of entries similar to:
    <TimephasedData>
    <Type>24</Type>
    <UID>7</UID>
    <Start>2014-10-03T08:00:00</Start>
    <Finish>2014-10-04T08:00:00</Finish>
    <Unit>2</Unit>
    <Value>PT8H0M0S</Value>
    </TimephasedData>
    ... and to an assignment:
    <Assignment>
    <UID>7</UID>
    <TaskUID>10</TaskUID>
    <ResourceUID>-65535</ResourceUID>
    <PercentWorkComplete>100</PercentWorkComplete>
    which includes blocks like:
    <TimephasedData>
    <Type>2</Type>
    <UID>7</UID>
    <Start>2014-10-17T08:00:00</Start>
    <Finish>2014-10-17T17:00:00</Finish>
    <Unit>2</Unit>
    <Value>PT8H0M0S</Value>
    </TimephasedData>
Eventually, the second file also does load with no external file links indicated.
Again, I'm just looking for anything that might be a clue to the long Project Server load times.
    Thanks in advance,
    LP

  • HELP PLEASE! Export Aperture 1 Library and Import to Aperture 3? Or another way to transfer files WITH changes into new MacBook Pro?

    Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a new MacBook pro with Retina display, to better manage Aperture and Photoshop. I took the advice of the genius (and after spending all night messing with permissions, etc.), opted out of using Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant and decided to transfer my files manually (as the two systems weren't merging properly the first time -- it was a giant mess). Long story short, I tried to transfer everything from my previous MacBook (operating on 10.5.8 with Aperture 1), and Aperture 3 couldn't handle it. It was crashing, and crashing so badly that NO button could be activated in the program (I FINALLY got Aperture working by disabling previews, and by moving from a managed library to a referenced library).
I initially dragged and dropped all photos from my previous MacBook to my external, and imported. I obviously lost folders, edit history and any other information that I needed to know what edits had been done on the file. Additionally, any movie that had been imported into Aperture was corrupt (the file was not transferring over correctly). I searched and searched for different methods, and finally found that I could export each project from my original MacBook as a "Library" and consolidate masters, or not, etc. I took the time and did this for each project. When I went to import these into Aperture 3, it said I was not able to because the libraries were from a previous version of Aperture.
Is there any way to bypass this? Or another way to transfer my projects? I understand I won't be able to do this for my entire library... but I'm wondering if there's any way to transfer my changes made, projects and details from Aperture 1 to Aperture 3? (and for those who might pose upgrading my original MacBook as an option, I cannot. It's too old. I think the best I could uprade to is Aperture 2, IF i can update the OS. Though, I definitely don't think I should be forced to do that since I've aleady re-invested in a new computer, AND had to re-buy Aperture for the new one.
Any/all advice is VERY much appreciated, as I really want to move forward and FINALLY start appreciating this program and computer (i.e. my investment) and move forward business wise. Thank you!

    Hi Jack,
Thanks for responding (as it seems as though no one else has been able to provide any insight as of yet)! Not sure if you saw my recent post, but the version of Aperture on the 2008 MacBook has been upgraded to 3.1.2 (not sure how; I bought it in 2009, but only have OS X 10.5.8... which apparently can't house 3.1.2 of Aperture, but hey, like many other anomalies i'm encountering, I'm no longer surprised!). I am unable to upgrade it any further, as it warns me that my OS X does not fit the requirements. I exported the projects as libraries; however, like I posted before, apparently these are from too old of a version for the new Aperture (3.3.1) to handle and import.
It's getting to the point where I'd almost pay to upgrade the OS X on my previous MacBook (10.5.8) to something newer in order to THEN update Aperture to a newer version; however, my previous MacBook simply cannot handle this (the specs are awful -- hence my decision to save up and upgrade to the newest MBP with Retina).
I've spent hours upon hours transferring files, libraries as projects, previews, versions, even masters (though, apparently some of them aren't accessible?) with no luck. I've rebuilt the library and reprocessed everything. And this is all after having to return one MBP already since Aperture 3.3.1 is glitch-y as it is, and froze everything for having a "managed library". So, now that I know that I have to deal with a referenced library in Aperture... I just need to actually transfer my previous library to my new one (hopefully WITH adjustments since these are years worth of photos and work).
Again, any help is appreciated. I've lost enough sleep, time, and vision health over this at this point.
Also, I know Migration Assistant is an option, I was told that it wouldn't work properly anyway because of the different operating systems, and the potential for problems.

  • Can't figure out these anomalies.  Driving me nuts.

The following code for the BouncingBalls assignment results in some anomalies that I can't figure out.
The main problem is that there SEEM TO BE different responses: the balls reverse direction at the right and bottom, but not top and left. In the code I have shown two different statements: one for dx, (which seems like it should work, but doesn't) and the one for dy, (which reverses direction properly, but the d? value is not the one that I want to change, only the direction modifier needs to change.)
The dx one is the one that I think should work, but the dy variation provides reversal. Since both variables are in the same formula, I can't figure out why one works, one doesn't.
The other anomaly is that Ball4 doesn't behave as the other three. What the hell's going on.....a tribute to Jim Bouton???
Any suggestions on where to start looking for the bugs would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Hold up. You are making this way to complicated. Whats the point of dir_x and dir_y? Nothing. Remove them.
    Do this:
When the ball bounces on the top or bottom.
    dy = -dy ;
When the ball bounces on the left or right.
    dx = -dx ;
Also, you might want to put some math in to force the ball to be within the box when a bounce occurs, if you haven't already. Just translate x and y over a bit.
You have way too much garbage in your move method... all those extra variables are what confused you.

  • Can't Import Directly from Card Reader or Camera anymore

I am using aperture 2.x and all of a sudden I can't import directly from my G9, 30D or San Disk card reader anymore. I have to copy files locally first to make this work.
This is what happens: I can see and select the thumbnails off the card just fine but when I select all and import it immediately says "0 files imported".
    Any ideas?

For the record, the workflow you describe is a good way to lose image data. The anomalies that you are experiencing should be a clue; you could just as easily be losing image data.
I guess it just depends on how important the images are to each individual photog,

  • Update pages in form by import then copy/paste

I have inherited a dynamic interactive PDF. Essentially what they did was take multiple pdfs and put them in one, visually shown below.
    form1.pdf, 1 page-----
    |
    form2.pdf, 2 pages----
    |---------> formall.pdf
    form3.pdf, 4 pages----
    |
    form4.pdf, 3 pages----
    |
    etc...----------------
Well now they have made massive changes to form2.pdf and form4.pdf and I am supposed to update formall.pdf.
Is there any way to pull NewForm2.pdf into the existing formall.pdf, and then copy/paste the fields from the current form2 in formall.pdf onto the new one, then delete the old form2 pages?
The changes in NewForm2 are extensive and it would take quite a while to just redo form2 inside formall.
I do not think they thought about updates when they created formall.pdf. I would like to separate the forms and use something like Forms Server, or even add each form into a library where I could add the new version and create a new formall, but I do not have time.
The only tools I have are LiveCycle Designer 7 and Adobe Reader 7.05. I do NOT have Acrobat.
I have seen several posts about inserting pdfs from Designer into Acrobat to update, but not inserting pdfs into Designer to update.
I tried importing NewForm2.pdf into Designer with formall.pdf already open, but it always creates a completely new form.
    Thanks

I exported a PDF from Pages v5.2.2. This uses Apple's Quartz PDFContext, not Quark.
In Windows 7, I opened this PDF with Adobe Acrobat Reader v11.0.09. I then copied/pasted a paragraph of this PDF content into LibreOffice Writer (v4.3.2.2). Since there was Baskerville in Windows 7, this comment pasted correctly including font-size. I did not have to make any adjustments to LO to accept this text.
On Ubuntu Linux 14.04, with the latest updates, I opened the same PDF in Evince, the default PDF viewer. Adobe does not offer an Acrobat Reader download for Linux. Again, I copied and pasted a paragraph of content from the PDF viewer into LibreOffice Writer. As there was no Baskerville installed, Writer defaulted to the Liberation font, at the correct point size.
In either of these platform scenarios, there were no anomalies with sentence/paragraph newlines .vs. carriage return issues from the PDF document during copy/paste operations. These were default control-v pastes that did not use the Paste Special menu item in LibreOffice.

  • Failure to import fcp7 project's xml into Premiere Pro 2014.  Details below.  Why is it crashing? Any thoughts?

Here are the details of my problem:
Premiere Pro 2014 (up to date)
Mac book Pro OSX Yosemite 10.10.1 with 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 processor
Source footage includes a variation of codecs as follows: H.264 in a .mov container, 1920 x 1080 Apple Pro Res 422, Linear PCM
There are no error messages, the import into Premiere Pro 2014 begins normally but the "progress bar" never starts and then after about 10 seconds a blank white box appears followed by the pinwheel.
When the problem occurred I was trying to import a fcp7 project's xml file into Premiere Pro.
I emailed Adobe Support Tech the fcp7 xml file and it crashed his computer, however, I was able to successfully import one clip from fcp7  (an Apple ProRes 422, Linear PCM, duration 1 minute) from the fcp 7 project into Premiere Pro, but not the whole project or the bare essentials (the cut itself).
I am not running other software
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed?  Not that I know of...
Tell us about your computer hardware. Be especially certain to tell us about third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU). ??????
I am using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration
The problem only happen when I try to import the FCP7 xml project file into Premiere Pro

    Hi Lynn,
Have you inspected the XML file for any anomalies? That might be a way to see if any third party effects were used.

  • Windows Update 956391 causes texture anomalies upon U3D creation

This message is to make others aware of a texture problem that occurs when U3D files are created in the toolkit (and subsequently imported into Acrobat 3D) due to an automatic update of Windows Active X Renderer(956391).
I am working on a project that involves the batch conversion of OBJ files (with texture) to U3D files using the Adobe 3D Toolkit. We then use the U3D's to make distributeable PDF files. After a typical automatic Windows Update, the U3D files showed texture anomalies when imported to the Acrobat 3D. Uninstalling the Windows update solved the problem (and upon contacting Microsoft - they agreed with the uninstall). Note that this is only upon creation of the U3D files (PDFS) and is reflected in the quality of the final PDF.
Hope this might help others out there!

    Great post. Thanks, Angelia

  • Track Import... bug?

Love the fact that Logic 9 added the track import functionality... especially when mixing a project where the drums were all recorded at the same time/place. Importing channel strips with the same plug-ins, volume, and routing from a previous mix is a HUGE time savor.
However, it's the routing that appears to be buggy.
I generally always route my drums to bus 1, so on the songs where I'm importing the drums channel strips, this is where they are output to.
However, when I use the track import function, I do get my plug-ins and static volumes, but these tracks are now all being sent to bus 27. Yes, consistently, and constantly... bus 27. Not bus 1.
An easy fix, of course, but was curious if someone could test this, or hear from others who have experienced similar anomalies

... so I did this function again yesterday, and this time, all the imported channel strips were set to output Bus 33.
Again, the song they were imported from, the tracks were sent to bus 1, but once imported, the output assignments change.
This appears to be another one of those features that Logic has added, but hasn't worked it out completely.... just trying to see if anyone else experiences this

  • Filename in import statement

    Hi srinivas bobbala,
Thank you for your response. But I think my quesition was not clear. My ques... is for suppose there is one datafile for importing like.. "datafile_21" Here my intention is it takes file from datafile_21 only but it appears in import statement like datafile_21<<curmon>>.
    import database sample.sample data from data_file "c:\\ABC\datafile_21_AUG.txt" using server rules_file datafile on error abort;
In this it takes datafile from datafile_21.But it appears like datafile_21_AUG in import statement. This AUG coming from batch file.
    Essmsh c:\\ABC\loadmxl.mxl %curmon%

    No it is not possible.
I assume the data file "datafile_21" is first renamed to datafile_21_${CurrMth} in the batchscript.
After that this data file *datafile_21_${CurrMth}* is pointed in the import statement.
In the logs you will see this file as datafile_21_Aug.

    Hello !
I have two database computer, one as master site, one as snapshot site.Because the error of the hard disk of master computer,I use the exporting data file to recover my database.after importing ,I found I can't refresh the refreshgroup on snapshot, who can tell me why?

    imp system/manager inctype=restore full=Y file='/home/save/backdata/xhsdcomp.dat')

You haven't listed the errors that you're receiving when attempting to refresh your refresh group, but if your snapshots are attempting to fast refresh, I suspect it's because the creation timestamp of the snapshot log on the master site is newer than the creation timestamp of the snapshot. In this case you will need to do a complete refresh of the snapshot (or drop and recreate the snapshot) before you will be able to fash refresh it again.
If this is not the case, please post the errors you are receiving when you attempt to refresh the refresh group.

  • Importing CD / adding folder goes to wrong folder

    iTunes 9.0.1.8
Under preferences my iTunes media folder is set to "C:\iTunes" and up until recently all imported CD's and files went into that folder under the relevant artist name.
Now, however, when importing they go to a new folder called "C:\iTunes\Music" - I didn't create this folder - how do i stop this and get it back to my original preference?
    Any help appreciated
    Regards
    Ian

Same problem, installed latest iTunes yesterday to Vista.
Import folder is defined as default iTunes-folder (C:\<user>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library) but it still creates a folder "Music" under this and then <artist>\<record> under this one. If I modify the default folder, it creates the import under that one, but not ever into correct iTunes Library-folder.
    What gives?

  • Importing to AE files - goes to wrong folder

I looked in the AE FAQ, didn't see the answer to my question, so here goes.
I am using AE with editing video, meaning I only use AE for some basic things. This is one of those times where my lack of knowledge is driving me mad.
When I went to import a clip, AE directs me to a folder from an old project. This happened once before, and I fixed it, but can't remember what I did. Any help would be appreciated, as I hate navigating around to a new folder all the time. I am obviously doing something wrong with the preference, workflow, or both.
    Cheers,
    Douglas

You're doing nothing wrong. AE will remember your new folder after you have quit and re-launched it. Ages old design flaw in the way it handles this...
