Import data into XMLType tables

I have a document whose root node is MedlineCitationSet. It contains one or more MedlineCitations
i.e
<MedlineCitationSet xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="http://localhost/schema/medline.xsd">
<MedlineCitation Owner="NLM" Status="Completed">
<MedlineID>66039085</MedlineID>
</MedlineCitation>
<MedlineCitation Owner="NLM" Status="Completed">
<MedlineID>66039086</MedlineID>
</MedlineCitation>
</MedlineCitationSet>
I registered the xschema http://localhost/schema/medline.xsd in the XML db.
I then created two XMLType tables
CREATE TABLE MEDLINECITATIONS OF XMLTYPE XMLSCHEMA "http://localhost/schema/medline.xsd" ELEMENT "MedlineCitation";
CREATE TABLE XMLLOAD OF XMLTYPE XMLSCHEMA "http://localhost/schema/medline.xsd" ELEMENT "MedlineCitationSet";
I then import the xmldocument using the following function
INSERT INTO XMLLOAD VALUES (GETXML ('smallxmldoc.xml'));
The getxml function was defined in a previous thread (I can't seem to find in again). It basically reads the file into a clob and then returns an xmltype for the clob.
It does work and inserts a single record for the entire[i]Long postings are being truncated to ~1 kB at this time.

--- My message was truncated. Here is the rest ---
If I run the following query,
SELECT VALUE (O) FROM XMLLOAD X, TABLE (XMLSEQUENCE (EXTRACT (VALUE(X), '/MedlineCitationSet/MedlineCitation'))) O;
I get 15 records back one for each MedlineCitation. If I run
INSERT INTO MEDLINECITATIONS
SELECT VALUE (O) FROM XMLLOAD X, TABLE (XMLSEQUENCE (EXTRACT (VALUE(X), '/MedlineCitationSet/MedlineCitation'))) O;
I get a ORA-19007: Schema and element do not match. I don't understand why they wouldn't match. They were both created using the same schema. It's almost as though the XMLType that is returned by the query "loses" it's schema so even though they match XMLdb is kicking it out. Anybody have any ideas? Is there a simpler way that would allow me to directly import the MedlineCitations into the MEDLINECITATIONS table?
Thanks

  • Error inserting CLOB data into xmltype table on Solaris 8 Oracle 9.2.0.1.0

    Hi all,
    I have a table t of type xmltype.
    I have a function getData which parses an XML file and returns the CLOB data.
    I have a statement as
    "insert into t values(xmltype(getData('abc.xml')));"

    Hi Aniruddha
    I think you need to post to a db forum rather than XMLP.

  • Import Data into multiple tables

    Hi folks,
    I already did some research in this forum but I cannot find a solution. As far as I understood I need to import the data from the flatfile into a staging table and then distribute it to the different tables by running a SQL script/statement.
    Do you have any examples of such a SQL statement/script?
    Thanks in advance!

    repeat for each table:
    insert /*+ APPEND */ into <table 1>
    select <source columns for table 1>
    from <table where the flat file was imported>
    where <conditions that identify records for table 1>;
    OR, alternatively, with a single statement
    insert
    when <conditions that identify records for table1>
    then into <table 1>(<columns of table 1>) values(<source columns for table 1>)
    when <conditions that identify records for table2>
    then into <table 2>(<columns of table 2>) values(<source columns for table 2>)
    select * from <table where the flat file was imported>;

  • Importing data into tables with grant access (sql developer 3.2)

    Hello,
    I want to import data into a table PAY_BALANCE_BATCH_LINES which is an interface table. I'm logged in to a schema (APPS) and this table belongs to the HR schema. However, if you look at the grants, the APPS schema has all access to this particular table. In TOAD, this used to work great.
    But in sqldeveloper, when I filter the tables dropdown, I am not able to find this table. Since this is my primary way of uploading data I'm not sure how else I can get access to upload data into this table. I don't know the password for the HR schema by the way.
    Is there a way out?
    Many Thanks

    Scroll down the tree to the 'Other Users' node, expand it, and then drill down into HR > Tables. Then do your import.
    For an alternative browser, right-click on your connection in the tree and open a Schema Browser.

  • Importing data into an existing table from excel problem

    Hopefully I am posting this in the right place..
    I am having trouble importing data from Excel into an oracle table using the 'import data' wizard in SQL developer.
    The problem is that the I want to import data into a table which all ready has data and I want the new data to be imported into the first row of the table not in a new row at the end of the table.
    This is probably best shown by example:
    create table todelete (
         site_no varchar2(2),
         data1 number,
         qa number);
    insert into todelete values ('w1',1,null);
    insert into todelete values ('w1',2, null);
    insert into todelete values ('w1',3,null);
    Now I want to import the following data from excel into the QA column starting at w1:
    SITE_NO
    QA
    w1
    4
    w2
    4
    w3
    4
    However, when I import the QA column it goes into a new row:
    SITE_NO
    DATA1
    QA
    w1
    1
    NULL
    w2
    2
    NULL
    w3
    3
    NULL
    NULL
    NULL
    4
    NULL
    NULL
    4
    NULL
    NULL
    4

    The problem is that the I want to import data into a table which all ready has data and I want the new data to be imported into the first row of the table not in a new row at the end of the table.
    No - the PROBLEM is that a table does NOT have a 'first' row or a 'row at the end of the table'.
    Rows in a table are like balls in a basket; there is NO 'first' ball.
    As already suggested please mark this thread ANSWERED and repost it in the sql developer forum where it belongs.

  • Importing excel data into oracle tables

    Hello gurus,
    Importing excel data into oracle tables..
    I know this is the most common question on the thread ...First, i searched the forum, i found bunch of threads with loading data using sqlloader, converting excel into .Txt, tab delimited file, .csv file etc....
    Finally i was totally confused in terms how to get this done....
    Here is wat i have
       - Excel file on local computer.
       - i have laod data into dev environment tables(So no risk involved, but want to try something simple)
       - Oracle version 11.1.0.7
       - Sqlplus and toad (editors)
    Here is wat i like to do ....i dont know if its possible
        - Without going to unix server can i do everthing on local system by making use of oracle db and sqlplus or toad
       SQLLOADER might be one option...but i dont want to go the unix server for placing files and logs and stuff.
    Wat will be best and simplest option to do?? and wat format will best to convert from excel into csv, or txt or tab delimited etc.....
    If you suggest sqlloader, any code example will be greatly appriciated.
    Thank you so much!!!

    Hi,
    user642297 wrote:
    Imran,
    This is increadible option in toad!!! It works absolutely sweet!! I have toad 9.7 version. IT works great. Thank you so much!!You are welcome :)
    Well i have further discussion on this ....this option is great if you doing in staging or development area. What if your doing in prod?? If you automating the sqlloader then how do u do it?? I think we still need to stick with traditional approach of laoding data by making use of SQLLoader right ?? If m wrong please correct me.well, in our case, we do have access to a custom schema in prod where we create the staging table and load the data from datafiles.
    try this:
    load data
    infile 'C:\dest.csv'
    into table dest_table
    fields terminated by "~" optionally enclosed by '"'
    TRAILING NULLCOLS
    (name,
    owner_nm,
    description_column,
    UPDT_DT DATE 'MM/DD/YYYY')
    {code}
    you can get more info about sql loader and your error here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96652/ch05.htm
    http://www.allinterview.com/showanswers/53766.html
    And one more quick question ...i found an example of control file , in that i see .dat format file. Is it a data file ?? can i try that option ?? But in excel i didnt see to convert the .dat format file.
    Any thoughts ???
    It is same as a delimiter text file.
    steps to create a .dat file (from a excel file):
    1. Insert a column between two columns and populate it with the delimiter (in our case, it is ~)
    2. Save the file as unicode text.
    3. Open the file in text editor and remove all the tabs (find an replace with blank)
    4. Save the file as "DEST.dat". Select encoding as UTF-8 while saving.
    5. Your .dat file is ready.
    Regards
    Imran

  • Help with Importing Excel Data into Formatted Tables

    This is my first post, here, so please be gentle!
    I am a relatively new user of InDesign CS4, and I am creating a 70-pg manufacturer's price book.  A very large portion of each page is going to be size and price information imported from a large Excel spreadsheet.
    I have created the table format that I'd like to use for each page, but the trouble comes when I import the Excel data into that table.  For some reason, when I import, it all dumps into one cell.  Would it be best to import as an unformatted table, and then format the table each time, or is there a way to simply import the data into my pre-formatted table?  I've seen how the former is done, but the latter seems much easier (...although that could be my inexperience talking).
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks so much,
    Laura (V1500)

    Thank you both so much for your time!  This is exactly what I needed.
