Import Folders and Sub Folders - any luck?

I have tried three or four ways to drag folders from the finder to iPhoto in hopes it would keep my folder structure and folder names. The Help file says it should. I have dragged to library, to source window, to viewing area, and even to death.
I can drag one folder at a time to the source window and it keeps the name, but if there is a subfolder, it does not work.
I am using iPhoto with my photos somewhere else. AKA iPhoto references them not keep them inits library.
Anyone have luck doing this?

Hi x,
I think it will only work for folders with images in them. does the subfolder have images in it?

  • I'm trying to import avi files to FQP - why does it not work? I've tried DVX-converter and Perian without any luck.

I'm trying to import avi-files to FQP without any success. I'vw tried to convert it with quick-time and insalled Perian, with no luck. I'm new to FQP...

    FQP??
Never mind. Open one of your .avi files in QuickTime Player.
Press command and i keys to get the Inspector window.
Tell us what it says next to Format.
avi is just a container, we need to know the codec that was used to make them.

  • Imported Form and sub-form from another database. Sub-form not creating new records tied to parent form's data.

I have imported all objects from an old access db (.adp file) into a new db (.accdb).  All of my data lives in sql server so I have added all the tables and views to the .accdb as linked tables.  My forms all connect to data, but I am having issues
with a sub form.  The sub form does not allow for creation of children records tied to the parent record the way the old db did/does.
Correct - old format .adp file (notice the empty second record in sub-form with the defaulted date of today's date):
Incorrect - new .accdb file (notice the lack of empty second record in sub-form like above):
If I click the create new record icon in the bottom of the subform, it creates a completely blank record not tied to the parent record (fields blacked out in screen shots above).  When using this button all parent record fields are blank.
I have also verified the child table used in the sub-form has a valid Fky relationship to parent table used in the parent form.

Have you checked each forms 'Filter' property (in Design view) to make sure they are blank and that each forms 'Filter On Load' property to make sure it is set to 'No'? Also, you might try inserting the following commands in each forms On
    Open event:
    DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdRemoveAllFilters
    DoCmd.ShowAllRecords
If you can open each forms Record Source and they are showing that new records are able to be entered (the new record * is showing at the bottom of the recordset), then check each forms On Load and On Open events to make sure there is no filtering.
In addition, check any macro or VBA commands behind the button that opens the main form to make sure there is no SQL filtering in the DoCmd.OpenForm command.
If one of the forms Record Source does NOT allow new records, then you will need to change that Record Source so the new record * indicator shows.
Out of ideas at this point.

  • Trying to clean install Leopard 10.5.6 and not having any luck!

I recently received a Powerbook G4 15 inch from a friend of the family without any OS installed on it. I was told by the tech's at the Apple Store that it would take Leopard OS so I purchased Leopard 10.5.6 and now I'm trying to install the software and I am continually getting multiple errors while trying to install.
    So my question is:
Is Leopard 10.5.6 compatible with my Powerbook G4 15 inch and if it isn't can someone PLEASE tell me which OS is compatible with my Powerbook? Thanks in advance!

I just did this on a 1.67ghz PBG4 with a replaced HD so I know it can be done. As Neil said, if you have a retail copy it should load fine. If you have an original disk that shipped with a machine (Gray Disks) then it will not work. Maybe you should check with the person who gave you the machine to see if they were having any problems. OR, find out if they have the original gray Apple install discs so you can at least run a hardware test.
    Good Luck!

You didn't state how it's connected to each computer, if it's connected through your router then it should work. If it doesn't then you need to contact Canon and ask for assistance.

  • Importing existing folders and sub folders of photos into photoshop organiser 9

I have over 10,000 photos nicely organised in folders and sub folders in Bridge CS3 and want to migrate over to photoshop elements and use their organiser so I have everything in one place. However, when I try to import the photos, it brings them in as individual photos and not in their folders. It seems like I need to recreate a load of albums and then drag and drop the photos into them. I don't have time to recreate hundreds of album names to replicate my system as it is. Is there any way round this or should I be looking at a different system altogether?
Thank you for any advice on this.

... should I be looking at a different system altogether?
If your entire organizational goals are to continue to use your "nicely organised" folders, then why bother with the PSE Organizer in the first place? You have extra work (must import the photos) and more limitations (must do all photo management inside of the PSE Organizer), and its hard to see any benefit from using the PSE Organizer. You won't achieve any "better organization" than what you have now.
If your goals are to use PSE tools to organize (tags, captions notes), in addition to (or as a replacement for) your folder organization, then the PSE Organizer can be very useful.

  • Can I import an entire folder and sub-folders at once?

I am fairly new to LR and have TONS of files in a main Photo folder on Vista.  Some of these files have duplicate names, some were taken with very early gen digital camera as well as newer files with my 40D. But importing each folder and sub folder 1 at a time is going to take a million years.  Here is basically what I want to do.
    1) Import ALL pics (probably about 6-8 thousand) at once
    2) Go through these photos and tag them as well as get rid of the obviously crappy pics that i will never do anything with, kill the dupes
    3) Meta tag as many as i can
    4) export to a new foler
All files are jpg.  Nice memorial day project eh?

I would make some suggestions to your proposed workflow.
Instead of "3) Meta tag as many as i can", I would say assign keywords and captions on all of your photos. Keywords and captions are a very powerful way of organizing, and when well done, they make finding your photos extremely easy. I understand that this takes time and effort, but you will find that the time and effort you put into this pays off well.
If you leave some photos without keywords and captions, how will you find them? I know how ... you will search for 30 minutes and probably say some four-letter words in the process.
Instead of "4) export to a new foler[sic]", don't bother exporting as a regular part of your workflow. Just don't do it! Only export when you need the photos outside of Lightroom, such as for e-mail or uploading or printing at a commercial printer. Otherwise, there is no need for you to take up the disk space with thousands of exported .jpgs.

  • Importing Folders and SubFolders, Maintaining Structure

    Hello,
I'm a former PC user with thousands of photos. I like iPhoto and have used it for doing some minor editing and printing. The interface is very easy to use, except when it comes to organization. The events feature is a nice idea, but I don't always organize my photos that way. I have copied all of my photos from my PC to my Mac hard drive (in the Pictures) area of the Finder. In that view, they've maintained my organizational structure which is very important for me to be able to navigate quickly and work with photos. Previously (on the PC) I was using ACDSee which also utilized this same folder/subfolder/subfolder hierarchy. It made it very easy so my photo organizer/viewer mirrored what was stored on my HD. iPhoto is not as transparent in this regard and so I'm leery to import my thousands of photos. Specifically, my HD folder organization looks something like this:
    Finder
    _Pictures
    _House folder
    ___Minnesota house folder
    ______Before Remodeling folder
    ______Furniture folder
    ______Landscaping folder
    ______Remodeling in progress folder
    _________Photo 1
    _________Photo 2
    _________Photo 3
    ___Lake house folder
    ___Childhood house folder
    ___Grandparents house folder
    _Travel folder
    ___Europe 2001 folder
    ___Europe 2002 folder
    ___Europe 2003 folder
    ___Barcelona folder
    ______Granada folder
    ______Madrid folder
    _________Photo 1
    _________Photo 2
    _________Photo 3
    ______Paris folder
    and so on...
This may seem like an old school way to organize photos in light of the magic of iPhotos and events, but it makes a lot of sense to me since not all of my photos are ordered by event, but rather "category" and "sub-category".
How can I import my current photos into iPhoto and maintain this organization? I'm guessing there's a way to do it manually, but for the hundreds of folders/subfolders and thousands of pictures I have, I really don't have the time to do it manually.
Thanks for any and all advice.
PS - I took a screen capture of my folder view in Finder, but don't know how to attach it to this post. Anyway, the structure above pretty much describes it.
    Cheers,

    jobber:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The short answer is no. Each folder of image files will be imported as one event (if you have the Events preferences set as shown here). However, you can create virtual folders within iPhoto to put other folders and albums inside them. Folders can hold other folders, albums, slideshows, etc., but not photos themselves. Albums can just photos. Here's what it might look like.
The only application that can do what you want is something like iView MediaPro which is not Expression Media from Microsoft. iVMP is considered to be the best DAM (Digital Asset Management) application at the current time by many professional photographers.
iPhoto is designed to manage photos by date. You set the time span for each event, 1 day, 1 week, 4 hrs or 8 hrs, and iPhoto will arrange the imports into appropriately grouped events (except for photos being imported from the Finder as mentioned earlier).
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Jsp code (js code) to display(tree) the files and sub folders in a folder

    Hi all
plz can any one send me the source in jsp or js to display in tree structure for files and sub folders in a folder.

There are dozens of Javascript tree widgets available on the Internet. Some are free. Some are good. Google will find them for you.
(The only relevance of JSP to your question is that yes, you can generate HTML that uses one of those Javascript tree widgets.)

  • Import photos and video into different folders

Hi, is there any way to import photos and videos into seperate folders?
I use lightroom to manage my photos and videos, but the videos are much larger so I prefer they are stored in a different location.
I can import them together and drag the photos to a new folder, but this does not create the same folder heirarchy as importing them would.
Currently I import once for photos and onece for videos, but I'd prefer to just "import"
    Thanks!

  • How to find out how many items within folder (and sub folders)?

    Hi all,
This may be a silly question - but if I have a folder (containing sub folders etc) is there a way to calculate how many file items are within this folder?
I cant seem to do it using the info panel. And the standard view tells you how many file items are within the folder you are looking at, but not in the sub and sub sub folders etc.
    Thanks for any help!

  • Can I arrange my bookmarks so that the folders and sub-folders are at the top of the list like in Explorer?

I transferred all of my "Favorites" from Explorer. I have a lot of folders and sub-folders and I would like these to be listed at the top (as in Explorer) with individual bookmarks below. Right now the folders and individual bookmarks are mixed together.

    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Sorting_and_rearranging_bookmarks_-_Firefox
If you '''Sort by Name''' in the Bookmarks Sidebar, that is how Firefox sorts bookmarks. If you have any '''''Separators''''', the Sort will stop there and you'll have to Sort from there down separately.
