Import seems hung

For about five years we have been updating our backup db by importing an export from the development db. In the past few months the import took 4-5 hours for about 25 million rows and several dozen indexes.
On most recent import attempt has been running for 24 hours and appears to still be on the table loading step. Looking at the Windows task manager I see that the Oracle process is using about 30-50% of cpu but memory usage for the Oracle process is slowly going up.
Is there a way to check on the progress of an import?
Where and/or what do I look at to determine if some sort of error condition has 'hung' Oracle?
Oracle 10g running on Windows server 2003. About 3Gb free space on the disk partition holding Oracle product. About 30Gb free space on the data partition. The export file we are using was imported successfully on our production db server configured the same.
Any help or advice greatly appreciated,
-=beeky

The fact that you can't log in is a bad sign - something is going wrong on a large scale.
is the import being performed in parallel?
Not sure what this means. The intention is to do a single import. I believe last week when the server was unresponsive after an import was started a sys admin >rebooted it. Could Oracle be trying to complete the original import as well as the one I started on Monday?I didn't expect 85 rows in V$SESSION_LONGOPS from one import and think something is very wrong. Its possible that the original import never really stopped (just a guess)
If you can log on see if DBA_TRIGGERS lists any triggers for the table(s) you are importing into - they may be adding considerable overhead during the insert process (unlikely but possible)
Is the table listed the same one as the one you are importing?
Yes. The listed table is the largest table of the group. This table has about 27 million rows. The other tables contain reference values and user built index >tructures to support searches (from a web site) of the largest table.22M rows should not take 24+ hours to import. Something behind the scenes is going wrong; you already know this :(
Latest development today (Wednesday). I cannot log in to Oracle on the target machine. From the sound the disk drive is making I'm sure the machine is >working hard at whatever it is doing, which as you observed, is probably thrashing. Not being able to log in is a very bad sign. Hopefully something will finish and you will be able to log in again but if it doesn't you may need to reboot the box and start clean - think carefully before doing this; I don't know what your situation is or what the consequences of a reboot will be. What you said is that you can't log in which is always a very bad sign.
What operating system are you running on? I have worked on systems where a unix process went berserk on very rare occasions and dominated the entire box. In similar manner I have seen cartesian joins bring a box to its knees but that's probably not your problem with an import though anything is possible
I suppose we can upgrade your subject line to "Import *is* hung" :(
Oracle processes can be killed (assuming you can eventually log on); I don't usually need to do so (nor am given the privileges) but perhaps a DBA can advise towards that purpose.

  • Imports seem to be hanging how to stop and restart

    Hi,
I am workin on transports using transaction code STMS. I submitted the imports many hours ago and it seems that they are hanging or stopped. The Trucks are still in the column status. I do see some objects got imported but some did not.
How can I fix this and restart the import because the Trucks are tere and I can't restart? Or how do I stop the imports or should I just let it continue? It has been hours now.
    Thanks

    hi Will,
To change the status of the transport, you can goto STMS -> Import Overview -> select the system -> select your request and after that press Ctrl-F8 (Import Monitor). Under the 'scheduling monitor' you'll see your transport request is in running mode, delete this request.
After you delete go back to previous screen the list of transport request, click on Refresh, you'll see your request will be in 'green' status again. ready for re-import again.
Also check the note Note 71353 - Transports hang during background steps which may apply to your condition. Hope this help you.
    Regards,
    Mark
    PS. appreciate your point:)

  • HT4796 I have has message saying less than a minute remaining (for about 20 minutes now...and the mac seems hung, curser wont move etc??

My migration assistant seem to have got hung up...the message says, less than a minute but that was 20 mintes ago.... the mouse wont move either now????

You may not have created a mess, it's possible you simply don't know where your data is after migrating. Had you followed the Setup Assistant's on-screen prompts when you initially turned on your new system you would be running just fine by now. My guess is you haven't been exposed to Pondini's Lion Setup Assistant tips.
Migration Assistant (MA) and Setup Assistant (SA) are cousins, similar but different. The primary difference is MA creates a new user account which can be confusing to some users. If you successfuly migrated then log out of your existing using account and you should see the new user account. Log into that account then you should see the migrated data. If you do then use Pondini's Transferring files from one User Account to another.
However if you have totally made of mess out of things then I'd start over, this time using the Setup Assistant Tips beginning where he discusses Second Chance.

  • Dump import seems hanging/not progressive

    Aloha!
I have a 48GB data pump dump import. For the past 48 hours, the import is still going on at this point..
    . . imported "SCHEMA_NAME"."T_NAME" 0 KB 0 rows
    Processing object type SCHEMA_EXPORT/TABLE/GRANT/OWNER_GRANT/OBJECT_GRANT
Processing object type SCHEMA_EXPORT/TABLE/INDEX/INDEXand the import was set at this setting..
    system/******** schemas=s_name TRANSFORM=SEGMENT_ATTRIBUTES:N TABLE_EXISTS_ACTION=REPLACE directory=BW_TEMP
dumpfile=DPname.dmp logfile=imp1.log If the import is running at this, with this size of dump file, is this normal? If not what part should i check and alter?
Thanks in advance for the forthcoming help.

  • Import seems to cause whole-system crash

Attempting to import photos via an SD card-reader crashes the entire system, not just the app. I spent yesterday fidgeting around in Safe Mode, trying to send the white screen of death back to its cave so I can use my computer again. I've found plenty of app-crash threads, but has anyone else had their entire computer crash like this? Were you able to fix it?
Thanks for any help you're able to give.

  • Songs all of a sudden seem slower to import

Have an HP m8200n PC- noticed that just recently, when I import songs into iTunes from CD, sometimes they import much slower than usual..and it looks like the sample rate when importing seems to show a lower rate than normal. Usually they go zoomzoomzoom when importing. Is it the CD? Does the condition of the CD affect how fast they get burned? (These are all fairly well-played CDs checked out from library.)

Where are you importing from? Disk, card in reader, card in camera, other?
Whenm you say you have no prolems with the other applications is that with the exact same setup (card, images on card, import method) as with Aperture when you get the error?
Have you tried reformatting the card?

  • ILife 08 Photo Import hangs.

My troubles began several months ago when I upgraded from a Canon Elp 2.0 MP camera to the Canon G7 10 MP. First I noticed that since the G7 now used a 2GB SD card rather than a CF card, I cold not longer use the Firewire card reader that I had enjoyed. No matter, I plugged the G7 directly in the USB 2.0 port and attempted to download about 250 photos. After about 50 photos, the whole process hung and came to an abrupt halt. the 50th photo only imported about halfway down the image and then the whole process hung. The work around was to abandon the import, save the photos that had been imported so far and then continue in batches of 50. Not exactly life threatening, but annoying to say the least.
iLife 08 had been announced so I thought that perhaps it might solved the problem. In the meantime, I purchased a Lexar Media USB 2.0 multi card reader at the suggestion of "Old Toad" on this forum thinking that might solve the issue. I wish I could say that my troubles were over but I can't. When I plugged the SD card into the Multi-reader, the G5 will not even recognize it. Just for fun, I tried plugging in an old CF card and it showed up right away.
To make matters worse still, I received iLife 08 hoping that one or all of these issues might be resolved. No such luck. I downloaded about 42 photos directly from the digital camera (Canon G7) using iLife 08 and the thumbnails all showed up on the screen just as promised. However, my problem started when I hit the Import button. After importing 18 of the photos, the 19th photo only came in halfway and the import process hung after that. I re-tried the procedure repeatedly with no success.
So now I don't quite know what to do or which piece of equipment to throw away. BTW - my Dell laptop seems to be able to read the SD card rather nicely so I'm tempted to use the PowerMac G5 as a door stop at this moment.
This is becoming a very frustrating experience. Between ILife 08, The Lexar Reader and the CF-SD converter, I have about $200 invested and I'm no further ahead. do you think perhaps that the Dane-elec 2 GB SD card just isn't recognizable by the G5? I find this an absurd notion since even my Dell Laptop can see it.
Any thoughts and or suggestions would be most welcome.
    John

    Greetings,
If you open iPhoto without the camera plugged in does it load all your pictures and can you double-click on a few and they show up full size just fine?
If so this may be an issue with the camera / bad data on the camera.
Before we go down that road, so basic fixes:
Ensure all your software is up to date (Apple Menu > Software Update).
Remove the following to the trash and restart the computer and try again:
Home > Library > Caches (I remove the whole folder. It will be re-generated upon restart.)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iPhoto (There may be more than one. Remove them all.)
If the same issue occurs try importing the pictures off the camera using Image Capture found in your Applications folder: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=ImageCapture/6.0/en/5304.html
__Assuming this imports fine and the images are working for you, you probably want to reformat / erase the camera's media card using the reformat or erase option built into the camera.
If the images do not show up fine when double-clicked and iPhoto still has issues when the camera is not plugged in try rebuilding your iPhoto Library following this article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638. Use the bottom 3 rebuild options.
    Hope that helps.

  • CR blocked in import

    Hi experts,
i have a problem with transport of a CR. In transactiom STMS i have launched the import in production system but on my cr i see always the status import running. The import seem blocked.
Where is the problem i not see errors...

Not an ABAP question - check with your Basis manager.  But, since you have STMS access, you COULD do this yourself.  There are several logs available that will identify the issue with hung transports...use the menus available to you.

  • JPG import problems

All of a sudden, all JPEG image files I attempt to import are of poor quality. It is as if the thumbnails are being used as the image file. RAW images import fine. JPEG's imported to iPhoto are fine also. Anyone know what's going on?
    Thanks in advance!

Somewhat similar problem. Imported 2 JPGs. They showed up correctly, I stacked them then clicked on vault update and (the top one—can't see lower one as it seems hung on "processing") turned to rainbow stripes.
I've tried creating JPGs with different programs, also PNGs, TIFs and have very erratic behavior in getting them into A3. Wasted hours with this.

  • Sharepoint 2013 - Active Directory Import User Profile Property manager fields

    Hi there,
I juste encountered actually a little issue regarding the Active Directory Import User Profil.
Importation seems to work well but I have a little problem regarding the Manager field.
When I verify a user profil through the sharepoint admin page ("Manage user profil") , I can see the manager field is correctly populated, but if I want to check my profil as a user (personal information), the manager field is not visible.
With Sharepoint Admin and Manage Profil Properties, I haven't the possibility to modify some settings for the manager.
For example, Policy parameters is greyed.
The only way I found to show this field in a user profil is to give the permission "allow users to Edit values ...".... setting I don't want to set.
Have you already this sort of issue ?
    Thanks for your help/idea.

    Hi Michael,
I don't remember well what I did exactly regarding this issue because I played a lot with user profil.
I know I used this powershell script from Sheyia which in fact help me a lot to clean and create a good profil setting.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/sheyia/archive/2013/10/09/sharepoint-2013-another-way-to-change-order-for-user-profile-properties-via-powershell.aspx
For example, this script help me to resolve some double entries.
Let-me know if it help you (or not of course)

  • I imported a COMPLETED book project into Aperture 3, only to discover that  the resolution of all the photos has been reduced to totally unacceptable levels

I imported a COMPLETED book project into Aperture 3, only to discover that  the resolution of all the photos has been reduced to totally unacceptable levels.  Any easy solution?
    Steps:
    1. I finished an Aperture 2 (Two) book project and tried to submit it to Apple for printing. At that point I learned (belatedly, obviously) that Apple no longer accepts books from Aperture 2. I don't know how I would have known to even ask if Aperture 2 had been sunsetted as far as book projects go.
    2. So I tried to download Aperture 3 ($79.99), only to be told that I couldn't download Aperture 3.5.1 because I was still running OSX 10.8.x. So I read current reviews for OSX 10.9.x, and ...
    3. Downloaded and installed the current operating system (about a 3-hours process for me).  OSX 10.9.2, here we are!
    4. Then I returned to the Apple Store, found, and purchased Aperture 3.  [For safety's sake, it would sure be nice to have a .dmg file I could copy and file away.  I lost a perfectly legal and good copy of Adobe's Photoshop Elements 3 years ago because I wasn't smart enough to make a safety copy, and when my iMac crashed (fried electronic components), I was left with a copy of the software that wouldn't run, and couldn't be verified as legit.]
    5. When Aperture 3 finished installing, I found and imported my COMPLETED Aperture 2 book project, which import seemed to proceed nominally -- the right number of pages, the right content on those pages, that sort of thing -- until I started looking more carefully at the pictures themselves.  All of them, about 300 of them, have been imported into an Aperture 3 book project in such a reduced resolution that they are fuzzy at the size the book will be printed.  Screen-capture of just one example (at 100% viewer setting):
I don't know what to do at this point to correct the problem, short of going through the entire book project, copy the custom captions (since those go away when you "delete" photo content), delete the photo, re-insert the photo, and paste back the custom caption.  Lather, rinse, repeat - ~300 times!  An estimated 2-3 hours of additional work.
Or does anyone in this community know either (1) that I did something wrong in the Aperture 2-to-Aperture 3 import (I don't recall being offered any options or choices in the process); or (2) that there is a wholesale one-step solution to my problem?
BTW, I tried to edit my "Product" info, but OSX 10.9.x is not in the pick list.  I am running OSX 10.9.2
    <Re-Titled By Host>

Frank, thanks for your note.  I wrote "COMPLETED" because I had gone to a lot of effort to get the content of the book precisely as I wanted it. I would fully expect to see my level of effort and care matched by functional competence in Aperture 3 to render the book the way I created it.  Too much to ask?
And yes, I upgraded the Aperture 2 Library first.  [Not ALL my tens of 000s of pix, because I use Lightroom selectively for photo editing. But Yes to the Aperture 2 Library.]  That step took a number of minutes, but seemed to work fine (no error messages of any kind).
Then I opened the existing book project in Aperture 3, which followed some "magic-box" process that took a minute or so.  As I said, when that step was done, by all appearances the book was ready to submit for printing - until I examined the photos a little more closely.  You did see the blurry example I included, didn't you? That is what each and every photo looks like.
Text-box content appears to have been rendered pertectly, for the record (including captions).
So, ... is this result something you have heard of before?  Do you know of a one-step solution?  Or am I looking at an extended picture-by-picture fix?

  • Performance and usability problems with Illustrator imports

I am usually an enthusiast advocate for Adobe Software. As a UI/Interaction designer I regularly showcase your products as a shining example.
That's why I am somewhat frustrated about the Flash Catalyst Beta. I trust you guys to come out with SOMETHING GREAT eventually, but I have just spend an entire day with Catalyst and it was not particularly a joy. Couldn't you have released it a bit later to save me the frustration?
    Situation:
    - Medium size Adobe Illustrator CS4 import (10 screens/stages with 20-100 Illustrator objects per screen)
    - Target : 800x600 embedded UI for medical product
    - Illustrator file chosen as starting point
    Performance / reliability problems include
    - Crashing (Vista Core2Duo with 2gig of Ram)
    - Super poor performance (wait 8 seconds to hide/show a layer)
    - No show of thumbnail images anywhere
    - No matching of document size (exact 800x600 from Illustrator became 800x599)
    - Playing the file did not work
    Usability issues
    - Poor test display
    - Poor match with Illustrator file (things seem to be rendered differently!)
    - Window selecting does not work well
    - No hand tool
    - No ability to lock layers
    - Cluttered interface (Not enough space for the "stage"or what you call it)
    - No way to resize Illustrator elements from one of 9 edge/center points
    - etc. etc.
Building a wireframe version from the ground up (with Illustrator import) seemed to work fine
I played around with the MS Blend beta for a while, and while the basic concept of your product is much more clear, the execution of the MS product in the beta phase was lightyears ahead in terms of stability and usability
I'm sure you can do better!
    Koen

    Koen,
Thank you for the detailed feedback about the performance problems you have experienced and your thoughts about features you would like. Let me respond to each of your points
Performance: We are aware that Catalyst doesn't perform well with large complex files. We have made many performance improvements since the current plublic beta, so you should find Catalyst more responsive with larger projects when the next beta is posted.
Here are a few things you can do to work around the performance issues you are seeing with the current beta:
    - Consider rasterizing complex elements that don't need to scaled in Catalyst
    - In Catalst turn complex artwork into optimized graphics using the "Convert to optimized graphics" in the float HUD (heads up display panel)
We have also found that particularly on Windows that Catalyst can run out of memory with large files. This area is also being worked on so stay tuned for the next beta.
    Features:
    - Poor test display [tv] Do you mean the design display doesn't match the appearance of the published project?
    - Poor match with Illustrator file (things seem to be rendered differently!) [tv] we have fixed a lot of bugs here. Expect this to improve a lot in the next beta
    - No hand tool - [tv] coming soon :-)
    - No ability to lock layers [tv] coming soon :-)
    - Cluttered interface (Not enough space for the "stage"or what you call it) [tv] Yes, Catalyst currently cannot dock/undock panels
    - No way to resize Illustrator elements from one of 9 edge/center points [tv] This is also a known limitation. I agree it is useful
I hope the next beta comes closer to meeting your expectations. A lot of performance work and new features has been done since the last public posting, so look forward to beta II.
    - Ty

  • Error importing SharePoint site collection - "there is an error during importing the Roles tag"

Hi, we are having trouble restoring a SharePoint 2010 site collection using our DPM 2012 installation. The recovery process goes fine (restore of the database, attach to the sql server, export into WFE's filesystem) and the last phase, the SharePoint import,
seems to end with an exception. We see this in the WssCmdletsWrapperCurr.errlog file:
Caught Exception while trying to import Url .....
    Exception message =
There is an error during importing the Roles tag
    Exception Stack =
    at Microsoft.SharePoint.Deployment.ReadAttribute.String(....
It looks like it is a SharePoint import issue, but I'm not sure. We have tried to restore the site into an empty one, and the exception appears again, although it *seems*  that the content has been recovered. We have imported using the security info
    on the recovery point.
I've searched for that error message in the Net but I've been unable to find anything appropriate.
    Do you have any hints?
    Thanks.

  • Importing mailboxes & messages: OS 10.2.8 to 10.4.8

I've installed Tiger on my G4, with erase and install. I tried to import my old mailboxes & (archived on an external drive and a CD, from the 10.2.8 system) using the Mail import command in Tiger. In the archive Mail folder, each mail box shows there are mbox files. The import seems to work, until the last step. The old mail boxes show up in the new Mail app, under "import." However, there are no messages in the old, imported folders. Also when I quit Mail, and launch it again, all the old, imported mail boxes are gone. I've tried to do this from the archive copy on the external drive, the CD and a DVD. Nothing worked. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    You’ve omitted two important details:
    1. Which import option did you choose? It should be either Mail for Mac OS X or Other.
    2. What did you select to be imported? The right choice here would depend on the import option chosen, but I believe choosing the entire ~/Library/Mail/ folder would be wrong in both cases.
Try choosing Mail for Mac OS X as the data format, and select ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/ first, then repeat with each of the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/ account folders.
