Importing Camera Raw into PSLR4.4

I'm trying to import photo's taken on a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS, in a camera raw format with a CR2 file extension. No luck - the pictures are greyed out on the import screen. Added the Camera Raw program, version 7.4. Didn't find our camera in the supported camera's list, but there are plenty of Canon EOS Rebels in there, so thought we'd take a chance. I'm sure this is a user error - anyone want to get me going in the right direction? Thanks!

That camera has been supported since camera raw 4.6/5.1

What version of photoshop and operating system are you using?
Lightroom 4.4 should certainly read the files from a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS

  • Importing Camera Raw data in iPhoto

I cannot get iPhoto 08 to import camera raw data . It shows a thumbnail when I select the file to import but fails to import it. On all atempts with good photo files, this is the same. The files were made in the camera raw setting on a Nikon coolpix 5700.

I have the same problem with my Nikon 5700 and have had since iPhoto version 5. Discussions on dpreview forums confirm other users have the same problem. If you want a laugh, you can read about my experiences below and save yourself a frustrating call to Apple technical support. But the short answer is that you need software other than iPhoto. Any product of this type from other companies will handle your files no problem.
I have a new, up to date version of iPhoto 08 that came with my new MacBook and it will not import the 5700's RAW files. (The same files are imported perfectly by iView Media Pro, Adobe Lightroom, and by Photoshop.)
(iPhoto Version 4 supported RAW from the 5700 but, on upgrade, I lost the ability to import RAW. My existing imported RAW files lost the ability to preview too. Hundreds of users on web user forums reported the same problem. Attempts to revert to iPhoto 4 corrupted my library. I eventually had to reformat my drive to allow me to reinstall iPhoto 4. In the end, my confidence was shaken enough that I reluctantly switched to iView Media Pro.)
I also converted the 5700 RAW files to DNG (Adobe's standard open RAW format designed for just this purpose), but no luck there either.
I called Apple technical support and eventually got through to the "iPhoto department" and talked to someone who had no clue about the subject. He didn't even know what a DNG was.
I asked if he could supply a list of cameras compatible with iPhoto and he said no he couldn't. I noted that there was an "iPhoto Device Compatibility" link on the web site but that the link was broken. I suggested that this meant that such a list existed somewhere and that it was just a matter of finding it. He said that, if the list wasn't on that page, it didn't exist.
I asked if the technical question could be escalated to a higher level of tech support, and he didn't know what escalate meant. He eventually went away to talk to someone titled "Product Specialist" (I had thought that was who I was talking to) and the product specialist said that no one at Apple could confirm what devices iPhoto is compatible with. Apparently, the development team at Apple wrote the software and then promptly forgot how it works, so we're pretty much on our own.
In short, it appears that there's no guarantee that upgrades to iPhoto will continue to support RAW files from a given camera. Since iPhoto stores your catalogue info in a proprietary file (the iPhoto library), this means each upgrade runs the risk of all your photo library work going down the tubes.
This is a crying shame and a show stopper for an otherwise intuitive and elegant program.
Try Adobe Lightroom or iView Media Pro as alternatives. Lightroom is more expensive ($300), but gives great photo adjusting capabilities. iView Media is just a cataloguing program, but has a superb file organization system. Unfortunately, its interface is not as pretty as iPhoto's and it has a steeper learning curve.
    Good luck!

  • Import adjusted photos from camera raw into Lr5

I like using Bridge to import my photos but also like to use LR5. After I organize and edit in camera raw I want to import (ADD) the adjusted photos into LR5. Problem is the adjustments dont import into LR. The original raw DNG is imported without the fixing that I did. Please help.

In the Camera Raw preferences, make sure you have Save image settings in: set to Sidecar ".xmp" files set. If you don't, then the settings are only saved in the Camera Raw database which Lightroom can't read.

  • How do i import camera raw files to photoshop elements 9 when it is saying it doesnt recognise files from card.

how do i import raw files onto elements 9 when there is a message saying it doesnt recognise files

    Hi Steve,
The Canon 700D requires a camera raw at version 7.4 or later - unfortunately that is not compatible with PSE 9.
    You have three options.
    1) Buy the latest PSE
    2) Use the Canon software (DPP) that came with your camera to convert the CR2 files to TIF files and then you can import the TIF files into PSE and use them.
    3) Use the free Adobe DNG converter to convert the CR2 files to DNG files and then import the DNG files into PSE.

If you want to know more about DNG, this video may help (you only need to watch the first part up until the DNG converter is explained)

  • IPhoto '09 not importing Camera Raw (.CR2) files

Recently purchased a new Mac Pro and tried to import my Camera Raw files from a supported camera. iPhoto refuses to import (unrecognized file format) files. Does anyone know the solution? I have over 1,700 camera raw (.CR2) files I need to import.

    Larry,
Cameras were Canon 20D and 50D. Until yesterday both were using the sRAW color space - switched them to Adobe RAW today. Problem was the 1,700 pictures with sRAW colorspace taken over the past few years - no issue importing into Adobe Photoshop CS4 (not surprising at it uses its own libraries), problem was only with iPhoto. I had what iPhoto reported as the latest update to Camera Raw, however when I browsed the Apple support pages I found v3.0 which I installed. That fixed the problem as it now has sRAW support for Canon cameras.
Only issue that remains is importing of DNG formatted pictures. iPhoto will not import those, which is hard to understand as it is becoming the defacto cross platform format for RAW files.
I don't recall having this issue on my older MacBook using an older version of iPhoto and older libraries...
Anyway, good news is that v3.0 fixed the problem.
    Thanks.

  • How to import camera raw-files as DNG-files using AppleScript action in the Aperture's Import menu - does such a script exist?

I'm looking for a smart way to set up an Aperture 3 workflow - where my propriatary camera raw files get converted into DNG-files when I import my files into Aperture. Aperture's Import menu allows for an Apple-Script to come into action as part of the Import settings. I was thinking if it would be possible for an AppleScript, as part of the import routine, to automatically send the files through the DNG converter app and back into Aperture? So that when the files were finally imported into Aperture they would be DNG-files?
Greatful for any answers and ideas!

Thanks for a swift reply Frank! I will have to use the Adobe DNG converter then, prior to importing into Aperture.
Yes, OSX does support my Nikon D600 NEF-files. But once in a while I want to be able to use features found in other raw apps, within my overall Aperture workflow, but without ending with a TIFF or other 'destructable' file format when continuing my workflow back in Aperture. This should be possible using the routine described here: http://www.apertureexpert.com/tips/2013/8/28/guest-post-catapult-and-aperture-3. html
In my case the problem is that my "old" CS5 version of Photoshop cannot be updated to read D600 files (even though CS5 is not even 3 years old) - I would have to buy a newer version of Photoshop and I have absolutely no intention of doing that. And so I have to find a raw file fomat that is readable by both apps.
On a second note there is a discussion about what raw format is likely to 'live the longest'  - also be accessable in 20-30 years. Some say that DNG stand a better chance here than propriatary ones. But I don't know about that and that is not my issue here.

  • Why Won't Lightroom 3.6 Import Camera raw files from T5i

I have Lightroom 3.6 all updated. I can't Import any raw files from my T5i
I have also tried using Adobe DNG but it will not read the files either.
    Any Help would be Awesome
    Thanks

You need LR 4.4 or DNGC 7.4 or newer for the T5i:

It is mislabeled as T51 on Adobe’s page.

  • Importing Camera Archive into new iMovie

I have years of old AVCHD camera archives on my hard drive from my old camcorders.  To work with those files, with prior versions of iMovie it was as simple as importing it (File->Import->Camera Archive as simply stated here: iMovie '11: Import video from a camera archive into iMovie)
Just upgraded to Yosemite and running iMovie 10.0.6.  When I use the import feature and navigate to where the archives are on my hard drive, they don't show up as importable.  Despite the folders and AVCHD files showing up in Finder, they do not show up in iMovie's menus.  What am I missing?  Appreciate any thoughts.

Well, interesting thing upon further research.
All my AVCHD archives were in a standard folder under Movies->iMovie Camera Archives.  Within that folder there is folder after folder of archives.  I can see them just fine in Finder.
When I go to the "iMovie Camera Archives" folder in iMovie it says: "iMovie Camera Archives.localized" and NONE of those sub-folders show up.  I copied one of the archives to my desktop and it imported perfectly fine.  So it's something odd about the iMovie Camera Archives folder itself that is preventing me from importing all those archives.  Odd.  Thanks!

  • I can not down load camera raw into cs3.

can not download my camera raw files into cs3

If you have a camera that is newer than what was supported in that version then you will either have to upgrade to the current version of Photoshop or else you can use the free DNG converter to create digital negative copies of your raw images. Those will open with what you have now. There will not be any more updates for Camera Raw for Photoshop CS3. That version is out of production and is no longer being supported or updated by Adobe.

  • Import camera raw files from Canon 70D to PSE 10

I downloaded the new DNG converter, and I am still unable to open the camer raw files.  Please help!

You need to use the DNG Converter 8.4 to create DNG files from the CR2 files, then PSE will open those DNG files.

  • IMPORT CAMERA MOVIES INTO IPAD

Hello... I am trying to import movie(s) filmed on my Sony Cyber-shot HX9V into my iPad 3 using the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit using my camera’s USB cable. (Importing using the memory card connector only imports photos from what I have experienced).  Once connected from camera to ipad I receive a message: "Accessory Unavailable: The attached accessory uses too much power".  I have plugged and unplugged numerous times to NO success.  Question: does anyone have know how to resolve this problem?  Must I use some "app" such as iMovie for the iPad...or?? an import via the app?
I am able to successfully export movies into my iMac via card reader and open up in iMovie on my iMac.

Just checked the Camera specs and it seems you have a bunch of options when it comes to movie recording.
Can you post what format the videos are you recorded?
This is from the Apple iPad3 tech specs:
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
Keep an eye of the appendix .m4v,.mov, .mp4 and compare it with your camera. Are your recordings also stored in the DCIM folder (i guess yes)?

  • Importing camera data into motion.

    Hi,
Does anyone no if it's possible to import 3d camera data from either realviz, boujou or maya into Motions' camera.
    Cheers

    Howdy,
The folks at The Pixel Farm have made a Motion export module for PFHoe/PFTrack that will write out cameras or entire scenes. As for Boujou/Maya/etc: Motion's project format is all XML, so you could write a script that converts from those other formats into Motion camera data.
I've been debating writing a Maya->Motion converter, as every tracking app supports Maya, so it could be used as an interchange format. I just didn't know how many people would really have use for it.

  • RGB Images Into Camera RAW

Is there any way to take a RGB image and be able to use the slider settings found in Camera RAW? I am aware about RGB images usually have a profile attached to them and you can save it out as a Photoshop RAW plus the fact that Camera RAW images are usually come in as 16 bit with no profile included. The reason being is my company is testing out this idea to use Camera RAW into their workflow but we get a lot of RGB JPEGS from different sources (stock houses, etc.) and not straight from a digital photography studio. We mainly work within a magazine environment. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Camera RAW can open Tiffs and Jpegs. Keep in mind that tiffs and Jpegs will not have the latitude that a RAW file has because the information in the file is limited.

  • Camera raw 8.3.0.141 truncates file names

    This is a recent thing.
I open jpg images from bridge cs6 into camera raw and save new versions from camera raw into a new folder.
Our incoming file names contain important data but not all of the name is written when I save jpg from camera raw.
file name length seems to max out at 60 characters or so.
THIS WAS NOT THE CASE SOME MONTHS AGO IN THIS MACHINE.
Our folder names are long also but the combined path + filename length  rarely exceed 230 characters.
Our file naming system has worked for some years and photoshop does not truncate file names, only this latest camera raw.
This is on win 7  64 bit pro machine - our filenames do not need to be compatible with anything else whatever.
example of our file/folder naming lenghts on my win machine:
    C:\AAliikkeet\02 xxxx oierjksinth\112255_ehhsyag somajrysen fgetrakunnan paievjerho_CO_10022014_til.73673\vlc\nietalahtn, naurvkustunr_bbseh syplamaiden syrdknhhar prifakehfo_IMG2722korjattu_cpy004_5000_02.jpg
the real names have been replaced with strings of corrensponding length so this long baby represents a long(ish) folder+filename combo in our systems.
This is a major new problem.
Any help appreciated - even the good old "use shorter file names, idiot" but that is not an option for me.
We are working in an industrial environment and systems  - including file naming have been working OK for some years and I cannot change our systems just to please my latest camera raw.

Thank you for your kind advice and interest in my problem.
    I tested:
c:\in\v  -folder is the one that jpg is read
c:\in\vlc is folder that the camera raw saves jpg
    original file name was:
    HIETALAHTI, TENAVAMUSKARI_VAASAN SUOMALAISEN SEURAKUNNAN PÄIVÄKERHO_cpy004_5000_02.jpg
    it is truncated into:
    HIETALAHTI, TENAVAMUSKARI_VAASAN SUOMALAISEN SEURAKUNNAN P.jpg
I shortened the original file name and removed the scandinavian A with dots on top of it and the comma from ther file name:
    HIETALAHTI TENAVAMUSK_VAASAN SUOMAL SRK PAIVAKERHO_cpy004_5000_02.jpg
    truncates to:
    HIETALAHTI TENAVAMUSK_VAASAN SUOMAL SRK PAIVAKERHO_cpy004_5.jpg
the scandinavian alphabet is not a problem (the file names are not always clipped in their position).but causes some extra truncating:
    HIETALAHTI-TENAVAMUSKARI_VAASAN SUOMALAINEN PÄIVÄKERHO_CPY00.jpg turns into:
    HIETALAHTI-TENAVAMUSKARI_VAASAN SUOMALAINEN PÄIVÄKERHO_CP.jpg
    and
    HIETALAHTI-TENAVAMUSKARI_VAASAN SUOMALAINEN PÄIVÄKERHO_CPY0.jpg into same
    HIETALAHTI-TENAVAMUSKARI_VAASAN SUOMALAINEN PÄIVÄKERHO_CP.jpg
This is why I havent found a good rule in this.
In camera raw the whole file name shows under the preview image but  in saving the image the file naming example is truncated.
Even the longest of our file names worked flawlessly  for several years until maybe two weeks ago.
60 characters is top length that did not truncate in this testing
