Importing existing GPS tags to PSE 12 places

Good evening,
after making my first steps in the world of RAW-photography with lightroom, I wanted to add the ability to edit digital photos. After comparing my options, I decided to choose Elements 12.
As I already had some keyword-tags in Lightroom, I imported them to Elements - so far, so good. But what I did not find so far was the possibility to "import" my GPS-tagged metadata into the places-tags. Seemingly I have to retag them again, which is annoying, but would be a reasonable way for existing photos.
When going on a photo trip, I currently use a GPX-tracklog to easily add the necessary GPS-information via lightroom. Is there any way to do so in Elements 12?
I wonder what is your workflow when adding GPS data to your photos?
Thank you for sharing your ideas,
all the best,
Gilhin

HI Jon,
thank you for getting back to me. This process refers to using PSE as an external editor. Unfortunately this is not what I am looking for.
What I like on the PSE Organizer is that it adds places in a hierarchic manner (Like Germany => Bavaria => Munich => Marienplatz) and that I can change the name of the last level. That is what I am missing in Lightroom. All my pictures are geotagged, so I do not want to retag them again.
Therefore I am either looking for a possibility that PSE recognizes the GPS data or that anyone recommends a Lightroom plugin that will do the same in Lightroom.
Thank you for your ideas,
kind regards,
Connor

  • Imported people tags in PSE 11 - how do I merge them with existing people tags?

I have just upgraded from PSE 9 to PSE 11 and have imported some pictures that I have tagged in another program. Importing tags for everything other than people works fine (already used tags are recognized and reused). But importing tags for people proved to be a problem. They did not merge automatically with my previous people tags in PSE. My imported people tags ar now placed under "Imported Keyword Tags" in the "Media" workspace. How do I merge or move them to the "People" work space where the people tags for PSE 11 is placed?
I also wonder why people and other tags are put in different places. Is it possible to view all keyword tags in one list/place?

Thanks. That helped a little bit, but not with the merging of the identical imported tags and People tags. They seems to be separate systems? Other tags you can merge by selecting both and right click < Merge Key word tags.
I can of course do it all manually now that I'm able to search for both tag types in Media, but this seems unnecessary and idiotic...

  • Imported keyword tags, image tags, main tags in PSE 12

I have converted an older catalog to PSE 12 for Mac.  I have tags in Imported Keywords, and that also show up in the Image Tags, but not all show up in the main tags lists (People, Places, Events).  How do I get these all in the main tag groups?

    Saurabh288--
Yes, now I see the tags under "Image Tags," and if I right click the tag in that spot, I have the option  to remove it.  Thank you.
As to the Remove Keyword Tag option, "should be" appears to be the operative phrase here. It should be, but in many cases isn't. The option appears for some photos but is grayed out for others, even when the "others" have tags showing under "Image Tags."  But I can live without this option working, since  the "Image Tags" list gives me a woraround.  Thanks again.

  • Place tags in PSE 12

I am getting more and more frustrated by recent changes after having to update to PSE 12 from PSE 8 after a friend updated my computer system.
I am seventy seven and not compouter literate but I do try very hard to understand how things work
I have discovered after help from others how to add a tag to a place name but I have to do that via a world map which I do not like as it apprears in the Place tags as UK then a drop down with the new place tag.
Here is an attemot at a screen shot of the problem and how I would like tags to appear in futrure. ie as Strumpshwa, Titchwell etc NOT as UK>England>West Tisted. Do hope I have explained myself clearly so that someone can help.
IN PSE 8 it was so simple
Nobody more surpruied than me to see this screen shot appear
Over to you please for simple instructiosn.
    Thank you,
    Brian.

    Hi Neileh,
Thank you so much for all your suggestions but I think I have finally reached terminal despair .
I did try and send an email to PSE but they seem to me to have a contemptible approach to users and I could not find how to send an email to PSE but kept being returned to forums.
Fir the time being I have had enough and I am growing more depressed by the lack of customer support and could not recommend the programme to others.
It may of course just be my ignorance of computers but I cannot be alone and so I am left with my present experience that PSE staff are unhelpful.
Huge thanks to you for taking so much trouble and I feel I have let you down for which I apologies.
The adding of PLACES in the Keyword drop down list is a palliative to my mind and not a cure for the problem as reasonable users would expect.
Please if you crack it please email me.
    Warmest regards,
    Brian

  • Moving tags in PSE 12

I recently upgraded from PSE 11 to PSE 12. In PSE 11, all of my tags were in its Keyword category.  However, the upgrade has placed my (hundreds of) tags relating to places and events into the new Places and new Events categories, where I can't find a way to edit them, to move them or to add new tags.  (My people tags ended up in Keywords and are thus ok).  Adobe tech support offers no solution other than to retag (20,000+) files but I can’t believe that even Adobe would screw me up so badly.  How can I move all of my sub-categories and keywords in PSE 12 into the Keyword category?

Add me to the list.  I have almost 70K in cataloged files.  I've been using Elements since before it was Elements (I forget what it was in the 90's, but at some point they changed the naming convention....)  I've skipped about every other release and just recently was very nicely gifted a copy of 12 for my birthday, and thought I might as well update from 10.
    What a mistake....
My tag structure was very well defined, honed over the years to work "the way I wanted it to" - whether that made logical sense to anyone else or not.  In reality, it DOES make logical sense, I have some of the same high level categories as Adobe thinks I should have - People, Places, and Events mainly - but I have other high level categories (like "Work", and "Website Images", for instance...)
I LIKE that structure. I don't want to have to CHANGE that structure simply because Adobe thinks I should.  If Adobe's structure is somehow better than mine, for me, I'm not seeing it.
My wife also uses our catalog, but is not nearly so intimately familiar with why things are the way they are.  All she knows is if she wants a picture of our three daughters together she can click their name tags under People, click five stars to get the best ones, and see a list.
The entire process now is confusing - having a tag list on the right but not being able to use that tag list to select (include or exclude) photos with those tags, is stupid.  Having to click the arrow to the right of the tag name to open up ANOTHER selection method in the top pane, then somehow navigate a confusing structure there, is also stupid.
Even if I wanted to live with that and just "learn it", I then have the same problem others have repeated above - I have tags that were imported and placed properly under the "People/Places/Events" structure, but I also have (for instance) a tag called "Detroit" - which is obviously a place but yet is now under "Imported Keyword Tags" - with no apparent way to move it.
If I could at LEAST move a tag from "imported" into the new structure (to put "Detroit" under Places) that would make it somewhat understandable (although I'd still grumble about being forced to do so by Adobe....) but I CAN'T DO THAT.
So, now I need to tell my wife (who is from Detroit), "if you want to see pictures that involve trips we've made to a particular place, you can TRY expanding the Places category and see if the place you want is there, but if it's not then go over to the Keywords category, expand all the sub categories there, and just poke around and see if you can find it..."
    Guaranteed disaster and confusion.
Adobe. Please.  If you're going to do this, at least implement some method of letting us simply drag a keyword from the Keywords category over to one of your OWN categories, or allow us to remove your own categories from every visible menu or listing and simply use our own.
I do NOT want to have to recreate all my previous tags in your own categories, then go through the laborious process of selecting each one in my own keyword list individually and re-tagging them with YOUR version of the same tag, then having to "remove" my own keyword and save yours.
    For 70K images?  NO.
    Seems pretty simple.

  • Changing GPS coordinates in PSE 9?

Typically I import pictures from the camera into PSE 9, then change the GPS coordinates as needed in GeoSetter (because it's much easier there).  Back in PSE 9, I use "update thumbnails", and can verify the new lat/long coordinates when I view the metadata in the properties panel.  However, the locations on the map do not change.  (I believe they were in PSE 5, though.)
Is there a way to update the map locations from the picture files?  PSE 9 must create a separate table of locations that doesn't get updated with "update thumbnails", even though the metadata is updated.  I suppose I could delete the pictures and re-import, but then some of the caption/tag/collection data may be lost, depending if PSE 9 re-creates tags from keywords (and I know collections aren't written to keywords).
    Thanks,
    John S.

Upon further investigation, here's what is happening:
    - When I change the GPS coordinates in an external program (GeoSetter), the new coordinates are written to the GPS fields in both the EXIF and XMP data.
    - When I hit "Update Thumbnails" in PSE 9, those new coordinates are read into PSE and are visible in Properties/Metadata, but are not reflected on the map.
    - After I change the caption and tags in PSE and hit "Write Keyword Tag and Properties Info", the new coordinates in the EXIF and XMP data in the actual file are overwritten with the old coordinates!
Obviously PSE 9 is storing the GPS internally and not updating with "Update Thumbnails".  So I guess my only solution is to change the GPS data before the photos are ever imported into PSE 9 -- unless someone knows how to update the coordinates internally, which was the point of my original post.
    Thanks again,
    John S.

  • How to create Sub- Category tags in PSE 12?

I want to be able to create Sub- Category tags in PSE 12 without using the map view. I have tags United States with sub- categories South Carolina and Charleston. I had no problem doing this in PSE11.

I found a very convoluted solution to creating a Places sub-category keytag in PSE12. First I created a new tag by placing an image on a map (using search). The resulting tag created a specfic location such as a street address. I then renamed the new tag with city name. The renamed tag can then be applied to all other desired and selected images. This is much more difficult than in PSE 11.  Is there an easier way?

  • Why is Mail unable to import existing messages after upgrade to Tiger?

After upgarading to Tiger, I opened Mail and was informed that all existing mail messages needed to be imported in the new version. Everything started out fine until 'sent' messages were being imported. The time for the import went from a few minutes to 14+ hours and the count remained stuck at 1,634. I cancelled the import and tried it again but each time the sticking point is at 1,634 messages

The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Here’s an example of the most common variant of this problem and how to proceed in those cases:
Just upgraded, Most of my old Inbox is gone!
Your problem, however, is different in that you don’t even get past an incomplete conversion. If Mail stalls during the conversion process, you may try to identify the mailboxes that Mail is choking on, quit Mail, move those mailboxes out of ~/Library/Mail/ (e.g. to the Destkop), and trash any Envelope Index-named files you may see in ~/Library/Mail/, so that Mail re-creates the index and tries to import the remaining mailboxes again, then manually import the problematic mailboxes as Other.
    <hr>
Alternatively, you may want to set up Mail from scratch and manually import your mail back afterwards. This would allow you to use Mail normally while solving the problem of importing the old mail as you see fit:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/. Move (not copy) the entire Mail folder out of there, to the Desktop.
    3. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop.
    4. Open Mail and set it up again from scratch. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and check that everything works fine.
    5. You’ll have to re-configure all your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    6. Do File > Import Mailboxes and follow the instructions to import your mail from the old Mail folder that’s now on the Desktop. Import the Mailboxes folder first, then each of the POP-username@mailserver account folders, if any.
There are two ways to import Mail 1.x mailboxes into Mail 2.x. The obvious one is importing them as Mail for Mac OS X. But Mail 1.x stored mail in standard mbox format plus some additional support files, and this allows Mail 1.x mailboxes to also be imported as Other, i.e. as generic mailboxes in standard mbox format.
Importing as Mail for Mac OS X produces the best results when it works, because it takes into consideration all the files in the mailboxes, not just the mbox files where the messages are stored, and hence, allows information such as status flags to be preserved. Importing as Other, on the other hand, may work in cases where importing as Mail for Mac OS X doesn’t, because it looks at the mbox files only, ignoring the support files which is what Mail 2.x usually chokes on, but precisely because of that, information such as status flags is lost and previously deleted messages may reappear.
Hence, you may try importing as much as you can as Mail for Mac OS X, then import the problematic mailboxes as Other.
Note that what Mail asks for when importing depends on the format chosen. Mail always asks for the folder that contains the “things” to be imported. If Mail for Mac OS X is chosen as the data format, the “things” to be imported are the *.mbox folders, so you must choose the folder that contains them, not the *.mbox folders themselves. On the other hand, if Other is chosen as the data format, the “things” to be imported are the mbox files, so you must choose the *.mbox folders that contain them in that case.
Note also that some of the mailboxes now on the Desktop may have already been partially converted to the new *.emlx format during the previous (failed) attempt to convert them in place. If you tell Mail 2.x to import as Mail for Mac OS X a mailbox that already has a Messages folder, Mail will simply ignore the Mail 1.x files present there. If the mailbox was successfully converted to the new format, that’s fine, but if the conversion was incomplete, that’s not what you want.
As a result of doing all the above, some messages may be duplicated. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • Question on importing existing Images from 2.2.2

What is the easiest way of importing existing images from OVM2.2.2 to OVM3.0.3 , would it work if I just import the .img files as disks and 'create virtual image' with them? Currently I zip them up and import as templates, but thats very slow process.

Thanks for the quick reply, I've just been told they now want a code 39 code instead of ITF. This means I should be able to import a CSV file and convert it to the code 39 font which technically solves my problem. If I create linked text boxes and import the barcode data it should all fall in to place.
    Appreciate the help Haakenlid

  • Importing existing project to Project Online

Hello, my company recently purchased Project Online to add to our existing Office 365 environment.
From the Project Web App home page, I would like to use the Create or Import projects tile to add an existing .mpp project file that I have uploaded to my SkyDrive to Project Online, and manage this project from the Project Web app.
However, I cannot figure out how to do this or if it is even possible. The tile itself says "Create new or import from Sharepoint sites and project files.".  To import an existing project you're then referred to this site: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-server-help/more-ways-to-create-or-import-projects-HA102923810.aspx.
On that site the only listed ways of importing an existing project are to import a Sharepoint task list (not what I want) or by connecting your local Project Pro to Project Online and publishing the project.
Importing or uploading an existing project file directly to Project Online would seem to be a fundamental basic usage of Project Online. Do I really need to also purchase Project Professional in order to import existing project files to Project Online?
    Thanks

Project Online cannot read mpp files, hence the reason for requiring Project Professional 2013 if you want to import these into Project Online - even if you only want to manage them via Project Web App from then on.
If you've not got Project 2013 Pro, you could cut and paste the existing task list from Project into a SharePoint list, and create the project from there.
The way forward will depend on the complexity of your schedules, remember that PWA does not have all of the capability of MS Project 2013

Not exactly your own app store, but close.  Apple has an App Store Volume Purchasing Program for Business > http://www.apple.com/business/vpp/
It allows you to purchase apps in any quantity you desire and pay using a company credit card.  You will receive a spreadsheet of redeem codes which you distribute to your emloyees.  The program guide has complete information > http://images.apple.com/business/docs/VPP_Business_Guide_US.pdf

Hi, we are having trouble restoring a SharePoint 2010 site collection using our DPM 2012 installation. The recovery process goes fine (restore of the database, attach to the sql server, export into WFE's filesystem) and the last phase, the SharePoint import,

  • How to import existing ColdFusion project in the eclipse.

    Hi All,
I have exiting ColdFusion project in my local drive and I want to import it in Eclipse. I already have CFEclipse installed in Eclipse. Is there any step by step instruction to do this?
    Thanks

You should be able to copy the folder into your Eclipse workspace folder, then go to File--New--Project and select CFML Project (under CFEclipse).
If it is an existing Eclipse project, e.g. there is already a .project file in the folder, you can follow the steps at Importing Existing Projects.

  • How to import existing eclipse Project to JDeveloper

    Hi,
previously I used to use Eclipse IDE. I have started to use Oracle JDeveloper 11.1.2.4.0 now. How can I import my existing Eclipse projects to JDeveloper? Please Note, I already have tried following options -
"Importing Existing Files into a New JDeveloper Project" from here - Working with Applications and Projects.
But, When I import the source files from existing Eclipse Projects to JDeveloper, I am not able to crease similar directory structure in the JDeveloper(in Application Navigator). As a result, I can not use my existing ANT build script to build my project[Though JDeveloper build my project, but I want to use manual ANT build.]
Moreover I don't want to change my existing directory structure as I am working on and existing project and I need to synchronize to my repository(Apache SVN).
Can any one help me in this - How can I import existing Eclipse Project to JDeveloper? Without any significant change in directory structure.
    Best Regards
    Chandramoulee

Well there are two options - if you have a WAR file with the code in it, then you can use the file->import WAR.
Or you can use the new->Project from source code.
Note that you'll probably need to do some library settings and some directory setting after that.
Have a look at this demo for basic steps:

  • Importing existing flash video files??

    howdy
quick question. if you import existing flash video files into an encore project, will this help reduce the final render time? or will encore rerender the existing flash video files?
    cheers
    angus

Encore CS3 won't import FLV files. You must render the project to Flash.
You may want to file a feature request at Adobe's support page asking for support for Flash-ready assets, to eliminate the need to transcode in Encore.
