Importing into projects with index (numbers)

I have a project and paln to make a series of imports nto it. I would like the images to be named with only the project name and an index number. The first import will number the images 1- n. My queston is : How do I make the next import start at n+1 and not just start again at 1. My solution has been to add a letter to each additional import, but I would prefer that all the images in each project have sequential numbers.
Maybe I missed this in the manual, please help
thnaks,
Joe

Use a numbering scheme that has a "counter". See here for details:

I have a large number of photos imported into iPhoto with the dates wrong.  How can I adjust multiple photos (with varying dates) to the same, correct, date?

If I understand you correctly, when you enter a date in the Adjust Date and Time window, the picture does not update with the date you enter.  If that is the case then something is wrong with iPhoto or your perhaps your library.
How large a date change are you putting in?  iPhoto currently has an issue with date changes beyond about 60 years at a time.  If the difference between the current date on the image and the date you are entering is beyond that range that may explain why this is not working.
If that is not the case:
Remove the following to the trash and restart the computer and try again:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.iphoto
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iPhoto (There may be more than one. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: to get to the "home > library" hold down option on the keyboard and click on "Go" > "Library" while in the Finder.
    Let me know the results.

  • Difference in AE file Imported into PPro with MPE in Hardware vs. Software Mode

I am getting an undesireable result when importing AE files into a PPro Sequence with MPE in hardware mode. The top (or left) pic is accurate, with MPE in Software mode (nice soft glow). In the bottom pic, MPE is in Hardware mode. Note the undesireable (and inaccurate) harder glow. These AE files are output in an uncompressed AVI with alpha channel. The pics below were imported into PPro with the AE file placed over a black clip in PPro (Video Layer 1=Black. Video Layer 2= AE text w/Alpha). Any thoughts, or better yet, solutions?!

Jim, so you're suggesting that I create my graphics in PPro instead of AE? That's not going to work! I must be one of the few people out there that output AE files with an alpha channel and import them into PPro, for I can't imagine Adobe not addressing this if many people were using AE & PPro together in this fashion. I guess I'm stuck having to continue to use MPE in software mode only (alpha channels work perfectly in this mode, but I have to do a lot of rendering.). I used to blame Matrox for this problem. Sure glad I haven't upgraded to a Titan!
BTW, I get the same undesireable results in MPE Hardware Mode when using Dynamic Linked Comps to AE.
One last question: does the quality of the video card make any difference with this alpha channel problem I'm having with MPE? I'd buy a Titan card right now if that would solve my problem!

  • I am having problems importing some CDs into iTunes on a laptop with Windows 8. Most CDs import without problem. The ones I can't import can be imported into iTunes with Windows 7. Does anybody know why this problem is occurring?

I am having problems importing some CDs into iTunes on a laptop with Windows 8. Most CDs import without problem. The ones I can't import can be imported into iTunes with Windows 7. Does anybody know why this problem is occurring?

First-off, this seems to be a general problem with 10.4 (across all the operating systems of which I am aware).  Unfortunately, I cannot provide a permanent solution but, if you need a quick fix, this will (hopefully) work for you.
For some inexplicable reason, iTunes no longer recognises standard Windows paths.  For example:
    Y:\Music\Buddy Holly\Buddy Holly - Rave On.mp3
The end result is that it will import a playlist with no content.
It will, however, recognise the equivalent Apple paths which look like this:
    file://localhost/Y:/Buddy Holly/Buddy Holly - Rave On.mp3
It is possible to convert your existing playlists using a few basic replace commands in something like Notepad.  In my case, I made some code changes in my music manager and now generate two sets of playslists (one standard and one to accommodate iTunes).
Forgive me foir stating the obvious but please remember to make sure that the disk / path containing your music is accessible when doing the import otherwise you will probably get a blank result.  Note that you can do a bulk import by selecting all the (revised) playlists and dragging them onto the iTunes sidebar.
I am sorry that this is not a "clean" solution but it will work if you are in a bind.  The only alternative of which I am aware is to wait for Apple to fix the problem.

  • Large insert op into table with indexes

    Hi,
Oracle 8.1.7.0. Empty table (after truncate) with two indexes. Need to insert about 40 billions records. What is better way to complete this task:
    1. Drop indexes, insert data then build indexes.
    2. Simply insert data into table.
    Thanks.

The only way to find out is to test... For example, I did a test on my single-cpu box with Oracle 9i. My test was to load all the rows from DBA_SOURCE (only 650k rows). I found that a single insert statement with bitmap indexes online ran faster than the total elapsed time for taking the indexes offline, inserting, and bringing the indexes back up...
With 40-billion rows, I presume you're using partitioned tables and enabling parrallel DML. Thus, your test will be much different than mine...
In past ETL projects I worked on, I found little difference in timing. I decided that I didn't want to drop indexes (it was ver8i) so I loaded the empty tables with indexes (and constraints) enabled...

  • Final Cut won't import imovie projects with stills

Final Cut is importing iMOvie projects that just consist ov video clips, but some of my iMovie projecys have been complied form stills (jpeg and png files) that have been imprted into iMovie.
It seems to me that stills are treated differently to video in iMovie, the images are imported directly into a project, not the event folder, but in FCP images are imported (and viewable) into the event the same as video clips.
Is this the reason that FCP crashes when I try to import these projects I wonder?
(I can post a crashlog if it helps)

This is happening for me also. Will import simple iMovie projects, but crashes every single time with a more complex iMovie file; it may be the inclusion of stills. I am using the 30-day Trial version.

  • 'cut-out' images from Photoshop import into FCE with unwanted background

I want to import some custom 'cut-out' images from Photoshop, but they come into FCE with a rectangular background around them. Is there a way to import just the irregular 'cut-out' image?
    Bob

Make sure the images are RGB 8-bit and in a format that carries an alpha channel or Photoshop transparency like Photoshop, TIFF, PNG, even PICT.

  • Files imported into Project from hard drive - big problem

I am a new user of Aperture (v2.1), having been a Lightroom user. I had lots of files on my hard drive organized by year and subject.
I imported them into separate new project folders (choosing the option of leaving them in their current location when importing). All looks great in my project folders when I am in Aperture, and everything is where it should be.
Now here's the problem . . . when I use Finder and look into the folder the images were stored in, the folders are still there with the photos still inside, but now there are many individual file folders, each with one image inside (RAW) . . . so, say I had 50 raw images in my original folder on my hard disk, I now have that folder and 50 other individual folders, each with the file name of the one image that is inside the folder. As you can imagine, this is using up a lot of disk space.
I hope someone can help with this. I figure I am doing something wrong, but in searching for answers, I could not find anything about this problem.
Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Have you tried searching for something like IMG_1234.jpg
Or your regular file name format.

  • Finding BPM of audio imported into project

    Hello all--
I bet there's an easy answer to this, but as a noob I'm not finding it in searches (though I find lots of related stuff).
I'm trying to tempo-sync imported audio to a midi tempo in a project. Is there an easy way to analyze the tempo of the audio, so that I could maybe bring it close to the midi tempo and then fine-tune? The Time Machine demands the original tempo before alteration is applied (destination tempo), but I don't know how to get that without educated guesswork with the metronome. I guess I would then use Time Machine, Beat Mapping or quantizing, or some combination of the three. Probably I'm missing something real obvious, but I've humiliated myself before in the name of "art" (or something like it). Thanks to all!
    later,
    John

Thanks for your reply, Donald. I tried the BPM Counter (which I didn't know about, and I'm glad I do now), but unfortunately it didn't work because my audio is acoustic rhythm guitar and vocals, not pronounced enough in the transients for the Counter to grab.
When you say "I put a drum set on an instrument track and program in a midi click playing along with the audio," do you mean playing the track along with the Klopfgeist click, and setting it by trial and error? That seems like the "educated guesswork" that I thought I could do, but hoped I would find something both time-saving and more precise than I would do that way. Maybe you could correct my thinking on that if you have anything to add.
    Thanks again!

  • Large Word document imported into Pages with "Section Break Problems"

    Hi there,
I am importing a large Word document with many photos (>250 pages) into Pages. Now, the problem is that when using the "page thumbnail" window to the left it marks all my windows with a yellow border.
This means that I can't duplicate single pages - it will duplicate the whole stuff. Same thing for delete.
I can go to the last character of each page and insert a "section break". This creates single pages. But it seems a bit odd to me, and with >250 pages, this is quite some work too.
Any idea what I can do to solve quickly the issue?
    Thanks for any hints!

Sections are what they say they are natural breaks in the document.
Each section usually having headers footers and other basic content in common.
Effectively just like chapters in a book or specifically designed pages in a magazine or report.
If your text naturally flows from one page to the next then they should stick together.
If on the other hand you are treating them all like single leaves of paper to be shuffled around, then you need a section break at the end of each page.
3 ways you can quickly do this:
    1. There is a unique start to each page such as a return followed by a particular word. You can search on this combination replacing it with a section break followed by the word.
    2. You can make a short cut to do this from the keyboard
    3. You can copy a section break and paste it at the end of each preceding page.
    4. You can transfer by copying and pasting the content into a Layout mode document where every page is its own section.
As with most work, planning, organisation and thinking before you leap, pays off in the long run.

  • Importing into Lightroom with card reader doesn't show previews

I am using Lightroom 2.4 with Adobe 5.4 Raw on a Windows XP based laptop -- however the problem I am having also presents on my desktop which also uses Lightroom 2.4 with Adobe 5.4 and Windows XP.  In fact the issue is completely the same on both computers:   When I try to import photos directly into Lightroom using a card reader, the interface opens, but does not show the previews -- and yes, the show preview box is checked.  The preview boxes are there, but they are completely greyed out.  If I use the same card reader but direct it to open into Photoshop Elements it shows the previews and it also shows them in Bridge for CS4. So clearly the problem doesn't lie with the computer or card or cardreader.   It seems only in Lightroom that the previews do not show up.  Adobe raw supports my camera which is set to shoot raw and it also makes a JPG copy, but neither show up.
I spent more than an hour with a tech trying to get this to work and didn't solve the problem.  I'm hoping that someone has some bright ideas that will help me out.
    Phyllis Perkins

I tried to respond before, but I think the message didn't go through.  Sorry.  Because my Lightroom hasn't been working the way it is supposed to, I have been doing what you suggest -- saving the photos from my card reader to a file through Bridge -- which does open the previews -- and then importing them to Lightroom.  But it means one extra step and Lightroom's strength is supposed to be work flow, so I would like to get it to work properly.  I think that if the card reader were faulty -- and the problem occurs with several different card readers -- that it wouldn't show the previews in Bridge or even Photoshop Elements, which it does.  So I think there is some problem with Lightroom, not the card reader.  Any other suggestions?  I'd be happy to know about them.  Meanwhile, thanks for your reply.

  • Compound clip imported into project not showing up in the event browser

I have learnt that when one imports any clip into the project from anywhere else other than its associated event folder, the new clip also gets automatically added into the event folder. I have seen this occur when I had imported audio from the music browser onto my timeline directly.
Today I happened to place a compound clip [a common template which I use for introduction to the video] onto the beginning of a project which I have started recently. I broke the compound clip apart and made the necessary edits. What puzzles me is that this compound clip has an audio clip and this clip was not being shown in the event browser. Is this normal?
Ps. I have very recently updated my FCPX from version 2 to 5.
    DR.SOMANNA

Let me explain the matter in a different way...
I have made a compound clip of the intitial generator clip, titles and music clip which I had used for my first project. The intention to do so being that I could reuse the same for my future projects as well. I placed this compound clip in a new project which I named as templates.
When I had started upon a new project a few days ago, I copied and pasted this compound clip from the 'templates project' and added it to the beginning of the timeline of the new project.
Now, for purposes of editing the titles, I broke apart the compound clip and changed the text of the titles. Also, when I had ungrouped the compound clip, there did appear the music clip below the timeline. I know that clips imported from the generator browser and the titles that are added to the project do not show up in the events browser, but should not the audio clip make its appearance in the event browser? I know that when we add an audio from the music browser, this audio clip will be automatically shown in the event browser.
My question therefore is this: is an audio track that gets added to the timeline of a project via a compound clip that has been added and ungrouped on the timeline an exception to the rule?
Hope I have made myself clear.

  • Merging old sequence timeline into project with different sequence settings?

I successfully did this yesterday. But when I tried to replicate my efforts, I got different and unwanted results.
I have an old project created in Pro 2.0. It has a timeline that I want to keep. In the old project, the sequece settings did not match the source clip, so 2.0 overscanned in rendering.
I created the proper sequence setting in 5.5. Then I imported the original sequence from the old project. The first time I did it, it took the old timeline and merged it with the new sequence settings--a perfect result. Today when I try to replicate that effort, it brings in the old timeline, but applies the old settings, resulting the overscanned result.
How, step-by-step, do I get the result I want--an old timeline with new settings????
    Thanks very much!

    Thanks Simon.
Let me clarify. What I'm trying to do is to correct the sequence setting without having to reassemble the whole project.
As I said, I was able to do just that yesterday, but have not been able to duplicate my efforts.

  • Format|settings for converting AVC MPEG-4 footage to import into project

    hi.
so the graphic designer for my favourite band dropped a couple of ~1⅓ gig MPEG-4 Movie (.m4v files consisting of footage taken during concerts in 2000|2001 on a handheld digital camcorder) into my lap the other day—& asked me if i could clean it up & split the each show’s file up into segments short enough to upload to YouTube...& while i feel fairly confident i can swing that order once i’ve got the footage in Final Cut, i’d greatly appreciate some advice regarding...making it to that premise. um. basically, if i try to import any of these .m4a files into Final Cut, i get this error:
    screenshot → [http://s3.amazonaws.com/ember/67PNmuKRePVvWJfFudHiSKj7kr9PfgzI_o.png]
so...after some preliminary investigation, i take it that i need to convert each of these files into a different format that Final Cut won’t turn its nose up at (—right?). which brings me to the crux of the matter:
§1 · *what format &|or settings* (—compatible with FCP7!—) *would result in the least loss of quality in the process of conversion,* if the original file is as delineated in this screenshot (→ [http://s3.amazonaws.com/ember/AAd0FBegXjXLXqtas8f9xIZa0v0TvrO3_l.png])?
§2 · *what program would you recommend i use to do this* (as yet hypothetical, albeit) *file conversion* (as prescribed in the answer to preceding enquiry)?

hey, great! thanks for the absurdly-prompt response. looks like that’ll do the trick.
though! a minor clarification, mostly just to satisfy my curiosity—
there are five Apple ProRes codecs:
    · Apple ProRes 4444
    · Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)
    · Apple ProRes 422
    · Apple ProRes 422 (LT)
    · Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy)
i’m guessing that—considering this footage is shot with a consumer-level cam, & is only 720x480 besides—the Apple ProRes 422 will be more than enough, right? that’s the one i should be using...riiight? (i mean...i figure anything more than that would be overkill,—or at least a moot point, if the original file doesn’t have anywhere near the level of detail|precision that the more heavy-duty iterations of ProRes affect—) ...is any of this speculation on target?
(i’m mostly concerned on account of the blurb about Chroma Sampling on page 7 of *Apple’s White Paper on the ProRes family* (→ [http://images.apple.com/finalcutstudio/docs/AppleProRes_White_Paper_July2009.pdf])—since i want to do some pretty hefty colour correction {probably the 3-way color corrector + desaturate highlights & lows filters...though that’s just a hunch} on all these files, & i reeeeeeally don’t want to lose any data that might improve the quality|accuracy|&c. of said corrections.)
—& if it’s at all significant, i may be trying to use the SmoothCam thing on these as well...though this footage is so shaky & erratic i wouldn’t be surprised if trying to make it slightly less emetic is a nonesuch of a lost cause.

  • Nikon D3300 NEF files not importing into iPhoto with Yosemite. Videos import, photos come in black

I'm having issues importing NEF (Raw) photos since I upgraded to Yosemite. I also updated iPhoto to the most current version. The videos will import, but the photos are coming in black. I can see them in the Nikon photo viewer on the Mac with no issues.

There are a series of posts on the forum right now detailing issues with Raw support. By no means all folks have them - I don't for instance - but many seem to.
Try the fix in this thread
RAW files suddenly show up as "not supported" (Aperture 3.5.1, OS X 10.10)
which basically trashes the Raw support and reinstalls it on your Mac.
    As always, back up first,
