Importing SQL into Discoverer?

I've converted an Access application (35 tables and 150 queries) to Oracle. Is there any way to import or 'cut and paste' the SQL into Discoverer? I don't like to think I have to do each by hand.

In discoverer plus in file options you can see
Import Sql click this it will prompt you to give the name of sql file
here you can give the name of the sql file containing the sql query.

  • Errors while Importing SQL into Discoverer

    Hi,
I am trying to import the following query in Discoverer and getting the error: "No appropriate join found in EUL (possible missing mandatory filter in SQL)". Can someone assist me with this....
    select count(*),
    a.resort,
    b.some_date
    from reservation a,
    (select to_date('12/01/06','MM/DD/YY') + rownum - 1 some_date from contp where rownum <= 8) b
    where decode(checkin_dt,null,arrive_dt,checkin_dt) <= b.some_date
    and decode(checkout_dt,null,depart_dt,checkout_dt) > b.some_date and res_typ in ('I','C','Z') group by a.resort, b.some_date
    order by a.resort, b.some_date;

I appreciate the solutions and here is what I have tried:
    1) It does work in SQL (Toad)
    2) I have refreshed all the Business Areas
    3) I tried creating it internally in Discoverer but it seems complexed and dont how to
Here is another query that I was trying and getting the error "Attemp to Open Workbook failed":
    select count(*), resort, res_typ

  • Importing Oracle sqldeveloper 1.1 reports into Discoverer

    Hi All,
I am new to Discoverer and i have a report file in XML format of Oracle SQL Developer 1.1. Can I import the report file into Discoverer and use them ? Is there any thing i need to take care of ??
    Regards,
    Sam.

What you're describing really doesn't exist. You'll have to build business areas, folders, etc. that point to the tables / views, etc. that you're using for SQL Dev. Then set up users, privs, security, etc. in an EUL that you build. Then create workbooks pointing to those business areas, folders, etc.
So, it really isn't a case of just importing XML or SQL and going from there.

  • Writing a stored procedure to import SQL Server table data into a Oracle table

    Hello,
As a new DBA I have been tasked with writing a stored procedure to import SQL Server table data into an Oracle table. I have been given many suggestions on how to do it from SQL Server but I I just need to write a stored procedure to run it from the Oracle side. Suggestions/guidance on where to start would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
I started to write it based on what I have but I know this is not correct :/
    # Here is the select statement for the data source in SQL Server...
    SELECT COMPANY
    ,CUSTOMER
    ,TRANS_TYPE
    ,INVOICE
    ,TRANS_DATE
    ,STATUS
    ,TRAN_AMT
    ,CREDIT_AMT
    ,APPLD_AMT
    ,ADJ_AMT
    ,TRANS_USER1
    ,PROCESS_LEVEL
    ,DESCRIPTION
    ,DUE_DATE
    ,OUR_DATE
    ,OUR_TIME
    ,PROCESS_FLAG
    ,ERROR_DESCRIPTION
      FROM data_source_table_name
#It loads data into the table in Oracle....
    Insert into oracle_destination_table_name (
    COMPANY,
    CUSTOMER,
    TRANS_TYPE,
    INVOICE,
    TRANS_DATE,
    STATUS,
    TRANS_AMT,
    CREDIT_AMT,
    APPLD_AMT,
    ADJ_AMT,
    TRANS_USER1,
    PROCESS_LEVEL,
    DESCRIPTION,
    DUE_DATE,
    OUR_DATE,
    OUR_TIME,
    PROCESS_FLAG,
    ERROR_DESCRIPTION)
    END;

CREATE TABLE statements would have been better as MS-SQL and Oracle don't have the same data types.
OUR_DATE, OUR_TIME will (most likely) be ONE column in Oracle.
    DATABASE LINK
Personally, I'd just load the data over a database link:
    insert into oracle_destination_table_name ( <column list> )
    select ... <transform data here>
    from data_source_table@mssql_db_link
As far as creating the database link from Oracle to MS-SQL ... that is for somebody else to answer.
(most likely you'll need to use an ODBC driver)
    EXTERNAL TABLE
If the data from MS-SQL is in a CSV file, just use and external table.
    same concept:
    insert into oracle_destination_table_name ( <column list> )
    select ... <transform data here>
    from data_source_external_table

Are you attempting to import into a newly made table or into an existing table? It looks like it's trying to insert data where it cannot be inserted (invalid column or lack of data size in your column).
    Try the following:
1). In your excel sheet, highlight the whole sheet and make sure the cells are in 'text' form and try re-importing
2). save the document as ms dos TEXT and import as a text document.
3). double check your columns are correct for the data, for example if you have a column that has a string of 100 characters and your column is 'NvarChar(90)' - that might cause the error? Or just correct data type in your column
3). If that doesn't work and you're inserting into a new table, try importing it as string first and writing a query to insert columns that should be float/integer or whatever. You may want to convert float texts to a 'bigint' first rather than string
    > float as that can cause problems if I remember correctly.

  • How to import XML into SQL Table

    Dear all,
There are a lot of books about exporting data into XML format.
Actually, how to use XML Documents? Sorry I am new that I ask such a question.
What i think may be exchange or save data using xml. If so, How to import into MS SQL table? Do it need to do any mapping?
    Appreciate for your hints

Are you sure you want to use XML with tables for this? No doubt importing XML into tables is useful for some specialized tasks, such as importing formatting information inside the XML itself, but for most of the familiar tasks that XML excels at, tables are neither necessary nor useful.
In my (limited) experience, if the XML elements are well-differentiated, by which I mean different types of data have their own distinctive tags, then the special powers of XML can be exploited more fully using the more familiar tagged text, nested tags etc. in ordinary text frames using paragraph breaks, tab characters, etc. to achieve a suitably "tabular" finished appearance.
If you must import XML into tables, I recommend Adobe's own PDF "Adobe InDesign CS3 and XML: A Technical Reference" availabe here:
    http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/indesign/articles/indcs3ip_xmlrules.pdf
It sounds very daunting -- the words "technical reference" make me shudder -- but actually it's very readable and not very technical at all. Some nice pics and everything!

  • Importing data into tables with grant access (sql developer 3.2)

    Hello,
I want to import data into a table PAY_BALANCE_BATCH_LINES which is an interface table. I'm logged in to a schema (APPS) and this table belongs to the HR schema. However, if you look at the grants, the APPS schema has all access to this particular table. In TOAD, this used to work great.
But in sqldeveloper, when I filter the tables dropdown, I am not able to find this table. Since this is my primary way of uploading data I'm not sure how else I can get access to upload data into this table. I don't know the password for the HR schema by the way.
    Is there a way out?
    Many Thanks

Scroll down the tree to the 'Other Users' node, expand it, and then drill down into HR > Tables. Then do your import.
For an alternative browser, right-click on your connection in the tree and open a Schema Browser.

  • How do I get this query into Discoverer Plus

    Hi all,
    I have the following query:
    SELECT h.hrs, NVL(Quantity, 0) Quantity
    FROM (SELECT TRIM(to_char(LEVEL - 1, '00')) hrs
    FROM dual
    CONNECT BY LEVEL < 25) h
    LEFT JOIN (SELECT TO_CHAR(event_date, 'HH24') AS during_hour,
    COUNT(*) Quantity
    FROM user_activity u
    WHERE event_date BETWEEN
    to_date('15-JUN-2010 14:00:00', 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS') AND
    to_date('16-JUN-2010 13:59:59', 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS')
    AND event = 'user.login'
    GROUP BY TO_CHAR(event_date, 'HH24')) t
    ON (h.hrs = t.during_hour)
    ORDER BY h.hrs;
Which produces the number of actions performed (from an event table, user_activity) grouped by the hour of the day they occurred (including displaying hours that have zero records - this bit is important!). I want to be able to put this into Discoverer plus as a worksheet, but I'm having trouble trying to figure out how.
I was able to create a custom folder in Administrator for the select from DUAL, but I cannot link it to the user_activity table because there's no relationship between to two tables to create a join.
    The user_activity table is:
    USER_ID - VARCHAR2(8 CHAR)
    EVENT_DATE - DATE
    EVENT - VARCHAR2(100 CHAR)
The custom folder is this part of the SQL:
    SELECT TRIM(to_char(LEVEL - 1, '00')) hrs FROM dual CONNECT BY LEVEL < 25
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    hi,
In the custom folder we can join tables, but the thing is you said ther is no join between them.
I would suggest you to built this query into a view and use this view in the DUAL table by writing inline query or subquery what ever way.
This is the only possibility i can think off.
    Hope it helps you.

    KKHi,
Thanks for the reply, though I'm not sure that I understand what you are suggesting.
Which query would you turn into a view? If you are referring to the select from dual, then how would the view be any different from the custom folder? You still would not be able to join it to user_activity as there are no common columns.

  • Import data into oracle from a text file?

    hi guys,
How can we import data into oracle9i release 1 from a text file with comma seperated or tab seperated delimeters?
    please help,
    Imran

table is already created, just have to populate data into table through a dat or text file. As suggested, you would either:
1). use SQL*Loader to load the data into this table.
2). create external table on that data file and then do:
    INSERT INTO your_real_table
    SELECT * FROM that_external_table ;

  • What is the best protocol to import data into sqlserver using an SSIS Package?

Im trying to import data into SQL Server from EXCEL with an SSIS package. In my data flow I am using "Excel Source" object and an "OLE DB Command" object.  Im getting the following error message, "...Excel Connection Manager"
is an incorrect type....."  May someone explain why I get this and point me in the right direction in choosing the proper source for my package so I can complete my task.  Thanks.

    Hi jsorrisone,
The data type mismatch issue is a common issue when using Excel Source in SSIS. The Excel driver recognizes only a limited set of data types. The following section of the document
Excel Source should point you in the right direction:
The Excel driver recognizes only a limited set of data types. For example, all numeric columns are interpreted as doubles (DT_R8), and all string columns (other than memo columns) are interpreted as 255-character Unicode strings (DT_WSTR). Integration
Services maps the Excel data types as follows:
    Numeric – double-precision float (DT_R8)
    Currency – currency (DT_CY)
    Boolean – Boolean (DT_BOOL)
    Date/time – datetime (DT_DATE)
    String – Unicode string, length 255 (DT_WSTR)
Memo – Unicode text stream (DT_NTEXT)
Integration Services does not implicitly convert data types. As a result, you may need to use Derived Column or Data Conversion transformations to convert Excel data explicitly before loading it into a non-Excel destination, or to convert non-Excel data
before loading it into an Excel destination. In this case, it may be useful to create the initial package by using the Import and Export Wizard, which configures the necessary conversions for you. Some examples of the conversions that may be required include
    the following:
Conversion between Unicode Excel string columns and non-Unicode string columns with specific codepages
Conversion between 255-character Excel string columns and string columns of different lengths
Conversion between double-precision Excel numeric columns and numeric columns of other types
If you need further help, post the complete error message as well as the data nature in your Excel source file for further analysis.

You can't use FORALL to write the data out to a file, you can only loop through the entries in the collection 1 by 1 and write them out to the file like that.
FORALL can only be used for SQL statements.
