Imposition without converting to PDF?
I handle the playbills for a local theater in InDesign CS5. The majority of the program is a shell with advertising pages and other non-changing theater info, and is managed by the folks who do the actual printing. For each production, I just send them the fresh show-specific center pages to swap out.
I have been designing the document as a series of 8.5 x 5.5" single-page spreads, and then copy/pasting them into properly imposed 2-page spreads in a new document when I'm done laying it all out. I've been using one-page spreads because it's easier to shuffle the order and add/remove one panel at a time rather than to copy content around in a 2-page spread. The pain is that when I'm done, I need to do all of the imposition by hand into a second 2-up document so that I can save it as .IDML and send to the printing company for importing into their older InDesign shell document. Furthermore, when I have text that flows between panels, the flow breaks when I copy the content out of one document and into the other.
I know there's a "print booklet" function that will do the imposition, but that only outputs a PDF and I need to keep the file in InDesign format. Is there any way to do this without shuffling all the pages around by hand? It's not bad with four or eight panels, but when I'm up to 20 it's tough to keep straight!
They actually do the imposition there usually, but they are doing the same thing I am - copy/pasting each panel one-by-one from my 1-panel-spread IDML into their 2-panel-spread INDD. It's the same amount of work for either of us. I thought since I had the newer version of InDesign there might be a way for me to shortcut.
I think what I may do is go ahead with the 'Export to Book' and then they can do a 'place' from the PDF and insert each of the PDF spread pages into their document. I think that might give them the same result.
Thanks for the links, Peter... I had tried the 'Buildbooklet' but it seemed to generate PDFs also. Haven't seen the other two though... and I love free! Nothing crosses the spine in my book and it's .375" margin all the way around in a very small playbill, so the creep and such is no bother.

Thanks for your helpReader cannot convert files to Word. There is an ExportPDF service with its own forum to help with issues to the service. However, converting files to Word is by its very nature an iffy proposition. How well it works depends upon the content of the file and how it was created.

ExportPDF is not for forms. In general, converting forms to Word is a really, really bad idea which can even cause legal problems. Work with the form as a PDF. Acrobat (not Reader) can export form data as simple text for example.

However, you have to open the file (even if it's not user visible) in order to perform any operation on it - otherwise how would the data be read??

At any rate, you can use the Edit Text & Images tool (under Tools - Content Editing) to make changes to the file. You'll need to be a bit more specific about what you want to change if you want more detailed instructions. -
I am using IOS system with pdf preview functions. I try to convert editable pdf file into read only for others to print without access to edit the file.
The only way I can do now is to convert to jpeg for each page and convert back to pdf then combine all pages together. It takes a lot of time in this case.

Anyway, you can insert the picture in to OneNote and then have OneNote convert it into text. This usually isn't very accurate for scans though.
A better solution would be to use a application which is dedicated to OCR. There are various out there. I suggest you try their demo versions to find out which works best with your handwriting.

when I try to convert from pdf to word, a box opens and suggests I am to click on (select) the file I want to convert. It sounds all well but it does not work. I really really just want my files back in word, all of them, no matter, because after having to reinstall windows 7 (done by techs) and me having to re-download all my HP drivers, and tools, and other software, which I imagine included adobe reader, now I see some pdf files won't open. It says, "access denied" and boy that really makes me wantt o scream. I am the ONLY user, it is my notebook, I am the administrator so I can't figure out why some files open and some don't. I can't ascertain any difference.
I would be grateful for any help. This has become just too exhausting. After reinstalling sooooooooo much, then to have to go through this with what is a free application? I say I think not.
This should NEVER happen with any free application and boy there is NO help to be found. They blow you off the phone fast telling you it's a free application. Then why are you putting in this kind of stuff that it won't open? This is NOT a shared notebook, it's mine. I am the only user, personal use.

Nobody could possibly think anyone would ask for help without first trying to fix the issue oneself. Or maybe you do. I have opened the file and looked under security. I have changed it to owner-notebook (which is what the techs called me) and clicked accept but geepers it didn't work.
Maybe someone else has an idea.

I ended up being able to open some pdf files after transferring them from one partition category to another. I wish it was that easy as you seem to think.

As it asks for the password, it means that the postal mailed PDF is password protected. You can ask for the password from the sender of the postal mail & then try to combine the files.

This will probably resolve your issue.

I need to convert pdf to XML format so that it can be imported into Excel workbook and the information can be extracting out and mapped to existing excel cells. What is the easiest way to get it down without introduce any additional tools/software
other than Microsoft products? Client want to keep their process simple and it will be used for many agents in remote locations. They mentioned that they want to use VBA to do it. I could not find much useful information on this. Thanks a lot!
WeiNo Office programs can open a pdf and edit the contents so you will have to get a different app to convert teh pdf into xls format. There are plenty to be found on the web.

Acrobat XI Pro crashes Office 2007 Powerpoint when converting to pdf
I have a Dell laptop with Windows 7 x64 and Office 2007. I also have Acrobat XI Pro. When I convert a .ppt powerpoint file to .pdf, powerpoint stops working.
When I click Convert to pdf, Acrobat prepares the slides and then begins publishing and about 1/4 of the way through I get a message that powerpoint has stopped working.
I have run the Office Diagnostics and it found nothing.
I have reinstalled Acrobat and it didn't help
Is there a compatibility issue? Would an older version of Acrobat Pro work such as Acrobat 9 or 10?
Is there an Acrobat Preference that I could change that would solve the problem?
