I just updated t0 52.0.07
I am not aware of other models but my 5800 could use a little more brains in its functionality.
Yes its great, but why:
1. My profiles are messed up. The pager profile seems to dominate all other profiles when it comes to screen level vibration intensity. I cannot create new profiles.
- The camera tones do not work. This is good. Nobody notices you take a picture.
2. The search line on the screen will not go out unless I tick, untick and retick it in the profiles (or sthing like that). For this reason i leave the phone all the time (also at night) to avoid doing this ticking every morning as i do not want the search on the screen!
3. GPS takes a lot of time to calculate position and when it works some times it gives turn directions after the turns! Although i must admit i was once abroad and managed to find a nice restaurant with the walking map.
4. When i turn it on sometimes turning screen does not work unless i lock and unlock once the phone (one more reason to leave it always on)
5. Rarely it does dies out and awakens all by its self in seconds. Very daunting to see the screen melt like that!!
6. Now this is a gift to Nokia: For Christ's sake put the alphbet on the numbers keypad at all times. There are people who use the alphabet to memorise codes and phone numbers!
7. Another gift: Texting is rather dumb. All sentences should begin with a capital letter after a full stop automatically. Not too hard is it? Oops, just checked, now it does this!
8. Why can't texting facilitate bold letters, bigger letters and things like that (my old siemens-55 did that and more!)
9. The phone has no auto-off function at a preset time-my s55 had this.
10. Also I would want the phone, when I get out of the car (where i use an earphone) after a meeting to return to the general profile not the meeting/silent profile again! If i plug it in the earphone it means the meeting is over and I am in the car. The s-55 worked like that. And i am not popping from meeting to meeting.
11. Get the Cyprus map back. Now be serious.
12. The radio sometimes crashes the phone. Especiaaly when i select/deselect the loudspeaker.
13. The light sensor shoud be faster. I want the light intensity setting to be separate for each profile as well.
14. Using the nymber pad, when i press a key for two seconds i want all the country international codes to appear to help me.
15. i like this phone. But am i using the wrong model considering the above?

Nokia PC suite is not in active development anymore and the last version is currently available to support legacy devices not supported by Nokia Suite which is the successor to Nokia PC Suite.

How to improve nokia messaging

Dear Nokia developers,
the new Nokia email messaging service has become quite stable over time. Good work here.
I have some ideas how to improve the client, perhaps you can put this on your roadmap:
1. Combined view of all mailboxes, so I don't have to jump between the mailboxes to read all new mails.
2. If 1. is not possible: When the client receives a new mail an you open the client, it always jumps to the primary mail box. Could you make it to jump into that mailbox, that holds the new(est) mail or at least to the mailbox overview page?
3. Mark all messages as read. When I'm in the office I read the mails on my primary mail client. At the end of the day, I want to quickly mark all new messages as read. Up to now, I have to go to every single mailbox, mark all items and then have to choose mark as read from a sub menu.
4. More keyboard short cuts. You have these beautiful devices like the E71 and E72 with a full querty keyboard, why don't you make use of it more often? Give us more shortcuts to everyday functions like mark all, mark as read, next message and so on (there are a few shortcuts right now, but not enough).
5. Faster and cleaner GUI. I still wonder why you don't believe in your own gui guidelines. Why does the application needs its own background and graphics, why do the icons zoom in and out (slow!). Depending on the global background image on the home screen, the application does not match any colour and looks quite wrong. Other push mail providers like emoze managed to use normal message boxes for incoming mails which fits much better into the system. If that is not possible could you at least use the current theme (colours, background, ...) for your application?
6. Home screen notifications. The Home screen notification lines took too much space from time to time (at least 3 lines plus). Could you give us more configuration options to save a little line space (or could you head over to the E71/E72 group and tell them, that 320x240 px is not that much for the leading business mobile from the biggest mobile manufacturer in the world).
Recap: I want a fast, consistent client with more direct key short cuts, combined view of all mailboxes and more configuration options.
Could you please do that... :-)

I can second these points.The client feels a little bit out of place on the E71, Nokia has a lot of room for usability improvements.

I'm proud owner of Nokia 701.
I've got two Ideas to help using Nokia for more peoples, then me.
1/ Missed Events reminder
Is it not possible to use phonedisplay as missed event reminder? (blink once per 5sec or something like that)
This little reminder light is not strong enough, to remind user during a day even in low lighted room. But it is sure enough to provide remindering at the night.
I suggest, this function could be enabled/disabled for every profile or it can be automatically done through light sensor.
2/ FM transmitter
What is the Reason for FM spectrum 88,1 - 107,9 ? Standard in EU is 87,8 - 108,0. I had used 108FM on my old FM transmitter, while there was no broadcast and i could hear music without interference.

For your second concern, it's used for US TV channel (87.9 MHz) and aviation navigation frequencies (107.9 MHz).

Nokia 5800 Express needs some of these improvement...

hi i would like to suggest some of the more improvement nokia can make on the 5800 xpress...all my previous mobile phones has been nokia (nokia 3310 being the first phone) and i have recently purchased 5800 xpress..some of the features available in the older phones is not in 5800 and i would have expected them to be included in the 5800 but well here are some of the improvement that can be made..
1. Calender can be upgraded so when you save birthday dates for your contacts it can also be seen in the calender with reminders
2. Having atleast four more shortcuts display on the home screen
3. Have a windows live messenger application for 5800 also
4. Have a application for displaying clock and notification when the phone is in keylock mode so you don't have to unlock to have look at the them.
6. Messaging can be upgraded so multiple messages can be deleted at once
7. Have a stopwatch application

true i have also encounted another annoying thing about messaging is that there is no resend options like the older nokia phone where u can resend the same message to the same contact but the current one you have to go through forward option..i hope nokia tries to upgrade this..

Improve your UI software Nokia. Ovi Suite wasted m...

The E71 device/hardware is good. But, unless I was confused by Nokia website:
- The E71 user guide is poorly simplistic and should be improved;
- Nokia support is quasi inexistant: - Nokia web 'support' is not better than the marketing brochure, and Vodafone support is struggling as well;
- Nokia PC suite is OK, better than previous versions;
- Nokia Ovi suite is to be avoided: I spent 6 hours trying to make it work with no sensible result. No response from Nokia 'support' for my requests for help.
- I had to unload all Ovi applications and revert to the Nokia PC suite. More progress is needed in software Nokia. Less nice picture, more functionality that works.
- Ovi can't synchronise my PC Outlook with the calendar on my E71.
A telephone handset shouldn't be considered as a "computer game" or MP3 player: we have no time to waste. As a 15 years Nokia user I am trying not to go Blackberry but for how long?

Could you be more specific about your issue.
-Which operating system do u use and which firmware version do you have in your mobile? ( *#0000# will reveal the details)
-Are you trying to connect thru cable or thru Bluetooth? Also which version of OVI suite you use?
-Go to OVI suite -> help -> About nokia OVI suite -> System information. Paste the information...

Nokia N8 Answering Problem

Hi
When my phone ringing if the caller is in my contacts Nokia n8 acts like I press reject???
When the caller dials again there is no problem or when someone (not in my list) calls me everything works fine.
Anyone has encountered this kind of problem lately.
Any idea??

Nokia E7's is a failed mobile to handle emails on time . It delivers emails lately from 1min to upto 1 hour or even sometimes simply dont deliver until you do manual sync or open email , even the settings are on Soonest deliver ,
Recently i purchased E7 , i was using E72 from last 1.5 yrs, but now i got to know something about E7 and N8's OS Symbian^3 is that it lacks the real push email service. Im getting emails after 5 mins to 1hr , even the setting is Soonest . i tried every possible way, it doesn't work. E7 and N8 does not connect u with Nokia Messaging server , it has own built new email feature which is not really good, as Nokia messaging which was supported on my E72 , and believe me i was getting emails within not more than 5 to 10 seconds .
I've contacted Nokia's helpline n they said delete email and make again , all the procedures which a novice may know.. im quite old and this is my field so i tried every possible way from last 2 weeks it really is not working properly , emails are delivered sometimes within 5 mins , sometimes u've to run manual sync , even settings are auto and soonest delivery. I need Email sync like E72 , deliver in mobile as soon as mail arrives , and thats what i was getting in E72 , they are calling E7 a business mobile , i should say it a junk , when a main feature of business category 'Email' is not working properly then what kind of business mobile . Instead of improving Nokia is going down , lacking Apps support and GUI and such an important feature in a mobile these days 'Email'

What a useless piece of @!*t.
I purchased it to replace my E90 that had failed after 3 years but what a mistake I've made. I paid £300+ and it has a very slow calendar which makes it unusable as a business phone, it downloads my email accounts (4 of them) then deletes the emails before I can read them. I cannot recommend this phone to anyone. It is "NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE" I intend to try and get my money back, but I imagine this is going to be very hard.
I have had Nokia smart phones for years from the Communicator but no more. I will be purchasing an iPhone 4 which I know will do the calendar and emails without fault. My other reason for getting the E7 was to use the spreadsheet function. Yes it will use spreadsheets but if it's larger than 10 rows and 10 columns then you're in for an exciting time trying to get around it. Entering information is very difficult. I thought it was the Quick Office installed software so downloaded (and purchased) the full Quick Office - huge mistake! It would not load and they could not sort it out and (thankfully) gave me my money back. The phone also freezes several times a day.
If you are thinking of getting one, my advice, DON'T BOTHER and save yourself a great deal of time and heartache.

What is "Maps Improvement" in settings

If you go to settings and then choose navigation at the bottom is "Maps Improvement", which is set to ON. Can anyone explain what this is please.

You need to be on online mode and signed in to your Ovi account for that to work. Any improvement Nokia has added to their online map will automatically be downloaded to your phone even if these improvements are not yet available on pre-downloadable files. Ovi Maps would have that new road downloaded if the developers have added it into the servers.

Nokia 6267 battery

I just tried out my new Nokia 6267 – Nokia claims the standby battery time is up to 300 hours, actually, my phone only manages 48. What a piece of junk! Seems like I’m not the only one with this problem either. I’m surprised that they still sell the thing - are there actually people out there that get it home, notice that it doesn’t even come close to what the manufacturer claims it can do, and then don’t return it? This one is going back to the shop…

Why should the battery be charged for 16 hours before first use? If the battery is full charging is usually stopped to avoid overcharging. The user-manual doesn't require that either, so what's about that 16 hrs?
The battery is to be charged to full for the 1st time to increase Battery life. Charging time varies on phone models. Some manuals Specify the time. Some dont.

Ideas for Belle lite ui for the s60v5 devices

It has been stated by nokia that the old s60v5 devices won't get belle upgrade due to hardware limitations, but they can introduce some new ui upgrades which I think won't be a problem for the old hardware.
Here are few ideas which nokia can introduce to the s60v5 devices (523x, c6 etc) as firmware update ( may be as the last update)
1. Belle drop down notification bar.
2.home screen with widget support.
3. One tap ui ( like c5 03)
4. Conversation view in messaging
5. Belle bottom toolbar ui.
6. Split screen keyboard .
7. New task manager.
8. Qt upgrade.
So if nokia can give any of the few above mentioned features than we s60v5 users would be grateful.

Well, most of these are already available on CFWs like Symbian Anna 7.9 with a lot of improvements that really boost our s60v5 phones. I personally just reflashed back to the original firmware for my 5530 just to check out what improvements Nokia had, but not much to like. Sadly, my lap died on me a few days back so I cant reflash back to SA 7.9 yet.

N79 Freeze often for no reason

Hello All,
       I am using N79 for past one month. From the day one I am facing lots of problem with it. Previously I was using 6630. Which was much better in performance that N79.
       My phone gets frozen often for no particular reasons. Mostly I noticed while trying to use WLAN (Both secured and non secured). Photo applications and some while accessing the contacts to make calls.
      Only way to recover of this issue to remove the battery and restart the phone. No other way........
It really hurts me to do so..... I have hardly used this when I was using 6630.....
On average atleast I am facing this problem 2days once.
My firmware is up today. (11.049)
   Please somebody reply me.....

I take a part that you bought this phone I have it too. Nokia has forgot their old users and they don't have any solutions for you to freezing problems or allmost any your problem with your phone. The N79's firmware is very buggy and slow to use and many have found that too

ps. I realy don't know why or where Nokia failed their stragedy (example flahship phone N96 took like a year to be like it sholud be(they released last week after looooong time new firmware to N96)). Doing this kind a **bleep** lose customers faith to Nokia.

I can't upgrade my 'improved software' on nokia n8...

my update for 'improved software' nokia n8 belle is not going through. I have tried to update it severally but its not working. It said restart needed and I ve switched off and on my but its still not upgrading. I even connected it to my laptop but this particular upgrade does not show on d computer. How do I upgrade this 'improved software?

it is the same with me ! After download package "Improve software" total 12 MB, phone requested "restart". choose Yes to restart, the phone restar and pop-up the updating mode ina few seconds, but it doesn't work. it complete to restart and the home-screen pop up that the updating is fail due to it is un-match with my phone, pls contact to the guide of network. who can hep this problem ?

Nokia E7 bugs and improvements

Bug: When listening to Internet Radio using Nokia default app over BlueTooth and a call comes in station stops so you can make the call but after call is ended station does not resume like the music player does. Why not?
Improvement: Why not make use of FWD and REV buttons on the BT headset to go back and forth between stations in your Favorites just like you would do with the music app and songs. Same goes for Play and Stop.

Hello - Nokia Engineers, why would I want a phone to second guess what I am typing on a FULL slide out keyboard?
Auto correct when using the sh!th touch screen keyboard or the numeric kweypad, but with the slide out keyboard?
What I type is what I want, not the phone to second guess me and ALWAYS guess the wrong flamin option.
Do you guess actually THINK about implimentation and how the customer will use the phone? Does this stuff ever get tested - or better still pushed through the paces of a "Customer Acceptance" test?
