In CS5, Win7...go to File, then Open...do you see .PSD thumbnails with preview images?

In CS5, Win7...go to File, then Open...do you see .PSD thumbnails with preview images?
In all other versions of Photoshop, I can see a preview of the image, even .psd files, but with CS5 now, I just see the PSD icons...this again, is when you go to File, then Open...  Anyone else see this?  In Elements 9, I see the preview thumbnail icon, not generic, same with CS3 and Elements 7, but not with CS5?

Well, I was thinking if others tried on their Win7 system, they could let me know if they get the same result or different...so by comparison I could see if I had an issue with my software, such as if it were standard...  However, I did figure it out...  It's a 32-bit vs. 64-bit difference.  Elements 9 is a 32-bit software, and so is CS5 32-bit of course....so both of those softwares show .psd thumbnails in the File, Open view...but the 64-bit does not...in Win7 64-bit...in case anyone else is wondering...

  • How to open/save heaps of PSDs-only with previews for LR?

    I have the following troublesome LR/PS scenario to deal with:
    Many of my old PSD files were not saved with max. comp. previews, and thus refuse to import in LR (a very annoying "feature"!) Hence, I need to create an Action or Script in PS CS2 which will:
    1. open ONLY my PSD files in all relevant folders and subfolders
    2. i.e., it must ignore all DNG, NEF and JPG files
    3. and it must save out the PSDs again without any alterations to embedded profiles (I have enabled the save-preview in the Prefs, which horribly bloats many of my already-huge PSD files)
    It seems like a trivial problem, which a simple Action could solve -- but I am unable to make my Action open only PSD files, as the Open command wrecks the Action. Yes, I tried if the Image Processor could do this, too, but was unable to make that work as needed. I had the bizarre idea of using Lightroom to globally rename the extensions of all JPGs to, say, XXX, and the DNGs to YYY, etc, to make PS become temporarily oblivious to them -- but it appears that the Rename function in LR is quite unwilling to rename extensions and/or put any other characters after the extension.
    Any bright ideas from you wise folks? :-)

    actually now I have a problem with catching Save Dialog event...
    here is my code:
    final JFileChooser fc = new JFileChooser();
    int returnVal = fc.showSaveDialog(ApplicationFrame.this);
    try
    System.out.println(returnVal + " return value ");
    if (returnVal == javax.swing.JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION)
    File file = fc.getSelectedFile();
    FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream (file.getName());
    ObjectOutputStream out = new ObjectOutputStream(fos);
    out.writeObject(myCanvas.getItems());
    out.close();
    myCanvas.repaint();
    catch(Exception ex)
    ex.printStackTrace();
    System.out.println("IO EXCEPTION :" + ex.getMessage());
    when I run it I get 0 ... it means it doesn't catch click on SAVE button... what am I doing wrong ???

  • Adobe Primiere Pro CS5 classroom in book files not opening...

    I can open files from other sources but the new Adobe classroom in a book series is giving me issues:
    I have a mac but the sdisk says PC/Mac.
    Error message (no number here)
    File import failure
    File format not supported
    Anyone have any ideas?  thanks

    First, I'm mad as heck! I pre-order my CiaB CS5 and mine has NOT come yet... ! You got yours first.
    OK, let's talk about those PRPROJ files. There are two ways to use a PRPROJ file in PrPro - you can Open from the New/Open dialog, and you can use New Project to create one, and then Import the PRPROJ into that Project, where it will bring in the full Bin structure and the Timeline(s). One just needs to twirl open those Bins and then Dbl-click on the Timeline. Does this second method also fail for you?
    As for the "file type" error, my first thought is that the file affinity for PRPROJ is not set correctly in your OS. I know zero about how/where this is done in the Mac OS's, so will be of no help. Second, I wonder if you have a bad installation. Can you create a New Project? Does that New Project function correctly?
    One good thing about your issue is that the author of that book is a MOD here. He knows exactly what is on that DVD, and has personally tested it. Curt can very likely get you up and using the book and its assets in a hurry.
    Personally, I am thinking that all CiaB CS5's are magically disabled, until Hunt gets his copy...
    Good luck, and let us know about the Import Project and also how New Project works for you. Curt will be by soon too.
    Hunt
    [Edit] One last thought - you do have PrPro CS5 don't you? CS5 Projects will most likely NOT Open/Import into earlier versions.

  • In the Menu Bar, under File, then Open File, how do I change the selections?

    I have Firefox 11.0 and Windows 5.1 (2007). In Firefox, I click on FILE in the Menu Bar, then OPEN FILE (Ctrl+O), and I see a small box; it says Look in: Mozilla Firefox. Below is a selection of files within the folder Mozilla Firefox. To the left is a column of four other folders: Downloads, My Computer, John, Lori. The last two are obviously two of the folders I've created on my computer, using Windows. But I don't know how they got here! I have no recollection of customizing this particular Firefox menu option by adding those folders, nor can I figure out what to do in order to further customize it. Can anyone tell me: (1) how can I change the original "Look in" option so that it opens with something other than "Mozilla Firefox" (which, after all, I never need to access)? (2) how can I add/delete/change the choices offered in the column on the left, so that different folders are listed? (Currently, if I want to access my Windows folders/files, I first have to minimize the Firefox screen; this seems to me a nice shortcut, but I'd like it to include shortcuts to the folders I use the most, which does not include "Mozilla Firefox"!) (3) Is this actually a Firefox feature, or is it a Windows feature? It does look like Windows (Windows style, Windows folders), but it appears only in the Firefox Menu Bar, along with Bookmarks, Tools, etc. Thanks!

    This sounds like a Windows thing ( You can post a photo and I can tell you for certain). Those folders are Windows system created folders that your computer has had since it was installed, all Firefox does is use the Windows File picker, which is what you see when you open that window. So, to customize you'd have to do that from Windows Explorer (not Firefox).
    The Window should however remember what folder you were in last.

  • Any idea why my saved documents are unable to be read? "convert file from" box pops up, applications are listed to use but if any are chosen, the file then opens but is in symbols

    When attempting to open saved documents for viewing a box pops up "convert file from" with applications that can be chosen from to use. When any of the options are chosen the document then opens but is in symbols and is unreadable. This is happening with all saved documents.  Can you offer any help with this?

    Hi,
    If you don't find any clue, you can send your file to me (guillaume.rouyreATgcosiDOTcom, replace cap) so I can give a try.

  • Rename the opening file & then open it

    Hi,
    I am looking for a script which can -
    1. On opening a file rename it. For e.g. Rename "FileName1.indd" to "FileName1-in-use.indd"
    2. Then open the file "FileName1-in-use.indd"
    3. Then on closing rename it back to "Filename1.indd"
    Is it possible?
    Regards

    Hi there
    I am not sure if this meets your needs. What about «race conditions»?
    Give this a try.
    Kind regards
    Daniel (from Switzerland)

        var myDoc = File.openDialog ("InDesign-File", fileMaskINDD);
        if (myDoc != null) {
            // get the actual filename
            myFileName = myDoc.name.substr(0, myDoc.name.indexOf("."));
            myNewFileName= myFileName.replace(myFileName, myFileName+"-in-use.indd");
            // rename the actual doc
            myDoc.rename(myNewFileName);
            // open the InDesign document
            tempDoc = app.open(myDoc);

  • Error opening file, then opens

    Frequently, when I click on a file to open it I get the error message below.  It may be from any app - CAD, iWorks, OpenOffice, iPhoto.  Sometimes I am inside the app, such as Keynote  and use Open Recent Files, such as the example in the picture.
    When I click on the file the second time, it usually opens.  Sometimes the app opens, but not the file (blank screen).  Another Open command then works.  This has happend on the original motherboard and a brand new replacement board (same HD).

    The reason I assumed, or asked, whether it was Windows-only is because of your use of the backslash character as the folder delimiter. To make the script cross-platform try the following:
    on mouseUp me
      acro = baFindApp("pdf")
      if ( acro = EMPTY ) then
        alert "This program was unable to find a suitable program on your system to open a PDF document. It will open www.adobe.com, where you can download a free viewer"
        goToNetPage "http://www.adobe.com"
      else
        mPath = _movie.path
        tFile = mPath & "Resource" & mPath.char[length(mPath)] & me.pPDF
        if baFileExists(tFile) then
          OK = baOpenFile(tFile, "normal")
          if ( OK < 32 ) then
            -- see docs for numbers and their meaning
            alert "Error opening file:" && OK
          end if
        else
          alert "File not found:" &RETURN& tFile
        end if
      end if
    end

  • Error when opening XLSX file with Excel 2003 SP3, file does open but in read only mode with temporary name

    I am using Excel 2003 SP3 and have the Office 2007 compatibility pack installed.  When I open Office 2007 formatted Excel files (XSLX) directly in Windows Explorer, I receive the following error if I do not have Excel already opened:
    "Windows cannot find '<path to file>'.  Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.  To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."
    Even though I receive the error, the file does open; however, it opens in Read Only mode with a name such as "Xl0000024.xls".  The number seems to increment up each time it happens.
    Now here is the strange part.  If I have Excel already open and try to open the file in Windows Explorer, the file opens fine in Modify mode with no error and with the correct file name.
    I Googled the error I was getting and found KB211494.  It says I should uncheck the box in Options on the General tab that says "Ignore other applications", but this box is already unchecked in my case.  Any other ideas?  This is
    really frustrating as a small percentage of our company has upgraded to Office 2007 with the rest still on Office 2003.

    This may be a file association problem.  To solve that:
    In Windows 7:
    1. Right-click the file,
    2. Select "Open With"
    select [Your Program Here]
    3. Check always use this program.
    In Windows XP:
    1. Locate the file as you have described above
    2. Right click the file
    3. Select Open with from the pop-up menu
    4. Click Choose default program…
    5. Select Excel in the Recommended Programs box
    6. Check Always use the selected program to open this kind of file
    7. Click on OK.
    1.  Make Excel not available from Office 2007 listed under Programs and Features in Control Panel.
    2. Take a registry backup using the steps given here
    3. In the registry editor window expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and navigate to .xls right and delete it.
    4. Exit Registry Editor
    5. Undo Step 1 to make Excel available.
    6.  Restart the computer and verify it the issue is fixed.

  • Firefox opens a dialog box when I use the browser, "Checking add-ons for compatibility..." then open the Firefox start page along with my homepage. I do not want the Firefox page when I open the browser. how do I stop this?

    Since Firefox updated it checks add-ons every time I open Firefox. The Firefox homepage then opens along with my home page, two tabs. I want the checking to stop. This has not happened before--only with this update.

  • I cannot get my pdf files to open can you help me with my problem?

    My pdf files will not open can you help me?

    I don't know if we can help you. This is almost certainly the wrong forum, but perhaps we can help you there too. Let's start with some questions
    1. What software (app) are you using to try to open the PDF files, including version number if you know it?
    2. If you are using a browser, what is it?
    3. Are you on Mac or Windows?
    4. Is the PDF file on your hard drive (own computer), on a web site, or somewhere else?
    5. What EXACTLY happens when you try to open the PDF? If you get a message, what is the message IN FULL?
    Please answer all questions carefully.

  • Raw Files Appear Deleted or Corrupted Suddenly in Aperture with Unsupported Image Format Error

    I have been using Aperture 3, latest update, for the past year. Today, I tried to import new raw files from my new Sony RX1r and, as far as I can see, all raw files in Aperture give the "Unsupported Image Format" and alert symbol in the library where not only new files should be, but also ALL PREVIOUS RAW FILES. These files do no even show up as existing in the iPhoto Library.
    This is, needless to say, distressing, as hundreds and hundreds of photos seem lost. Also, the files show a reduced pixel size and file sizes all go to .5 Mb. Some of the photos seemed to show up initially and look fine until I tried to open them, then they all either disappear or show the Unsupported Image Format instead of the opened file. I have tried rebuilding the iPhoto library, but no help.
    I have looked in these discussions and see similar problems with Aperture. Perhaps, Apple has not made an update for the RX1r from the RX1 for raw files, but why should all older raw files now be corrupted, especially those recently made with my Olympus OM-D? Had no problem with Aperture until this disaster.
    Please help.
    William

    Just an update. Restarted computer and attempted rebuilds of iPhoto library a couple more times and finally files and photos mostly recovered, except for those I had tried to open. Aperture seems to have a problem, or a host of them, dealing with RAW files, and there is no update yet for the Sony RX1R for Aperture or iPhoto. Lightroom 5, on the other hand, seems to work great with these files directly, so that will be where all photos go for now. Will iPhoto and Aperture just become old archives? It is so infuriating that Apple does not allow for simple importing and exporting compatibility with such an excellent program as Lightroom 5 just to protect their somewhat poorly supported Aperture. I've been a staunch Apple supporter and user since the 80's, but having more doubts about the direction this company is taking.

  • In photoshop cc my saved files don't appear as thumbnails with the image, only with the generic tiff or jpeg icon

    how do i get actual thumbnail images in photoshop cc instead of generic tiff or jpeg icons??

    And what exactly? If you mean system thumbnails, then this has nothing to do with PS. You messed up your file associations then by installing a tool that usurped those associations and they no longer default to the Windows preview function.

  • Can't see psd thumbnails in the open dialog box.

    In the open dialog box, the thumbnails for psd files do not show the picture but show an Elements logo instead.  How can I see picture thumbnails for psd files as I do for jpg files?  I found a dng codec on the web site but not a psd codec.  The dng codec doesn't work for psd files.

    Hi,
    Is there any error message when you try to map network Drive manually? It would be better to provide more details about error message.
    Generally speaking, this problem can be caused by Network Connection problem, please make sure your Client PC could access to Network Drive PC.
    In addition, please check Network Drive PC security setting, if there is any firewall policy prevent this operation.
    If still no use, please check Event Viewer if it identify this problem.

    There is no error.  There is no connectivity problem.  THe drives map automatically and always have.  I can open up File Explorer and browse these drives all I want.  I can open up Word and browse to these drives just fine.
    However, when I open certain programs, and click File | Open, the mapped network drives just simply aren't there.  I only see C and D and that's it.

  • Photoshop CS5 x64 crashes when file dialogue opens.

    I am running PS CS5 64-bit on a Windows 7 Ultimate PC with 12GB RAM.
    It has been running fine, but today, all of a sudden, when I do anything that opens a file dialogue, PS crashes and quits.
    If I select "Open..." or "Save As..." PS will crash/quit.
    I have tried deleting my prefs. Still the same problem.
    Interestingly, PS CS5 32-bit works fine, as does other Adobe programs since I have the CS5 Master Collection.
    I guess I will try uninstalling PS and reinstalling.
    Thanks,
    -Darin

    Thanks for the tip Chris.
    I created a new user and no longer had the problem with the open dialogue on the new user account.
    On my main user, the problem is still there.
    So I know this is out of the scope of this forum, but how do I go about resetting or fixing the dialog settings? I only have this problem with PS. Other apps are fine.
    Oh well, I will try to figure it out from here. At least I have an idea where to start.
    Thanks again,
    -Darin
