! in front of song title

When I bring up my iTunes, some of the song titles have a ! in front of them and I have NO IDEA why and I cannot find anything on line to tell me what it means. It is in the first colum before the check box and name

They should be where they were when they were added to iTunes. If you move them about by hand, or some other piece of software like Windows Media Player does it for you, then iTunes will get confused.
Take one of the files that has a in front of it and click CTRL-I to get info. Click cancel whene asked to locate the file, then look at the summary tab. This should give the location where iTunes expects to find the file.
Now use Windows search function and search your hard drive for the filename to see if you can find out where it really is.
List both paths back here, assuming you can find the problem file, and I will try to make more sense of things. I might be able to give my script a tweak to give it a better chance to detect the moved files.

What does the black check marks in front of the song titles do?

    Wow, old discussion from January.
Click on any song in iTunes and then on the edit menu, click on select all. Now right click on any one of those songs and select check selection orcheck all whatever the choice is, I can't remember exactly,

  • Explain the Relevance of the Check Boxes in Front of Song Titles

What are those check boxes for in front of every song...some are checked some are not. Seems that even after I've hot synched my ipod that some of them don't go away.
    Please advise?
Macbook Pro Running XP   Windows XP

The check boxes have a few uses:
Unchecked songs will be skipped when playing songs from the library or a selection.
(They will only play when individually clicked on).
Smart Playlists have an option that unchecked songs won't appear.
Unchecked songs will not be burned to CD.
The iPod has an option that if chosen, it won't update unchecked songs

  • HT1296 I can't sync the whole playlist from my computer to my iPod touch. Songs which don't sync have a dotted circle in front of the title?

I can't sync the complete playlist from my PC to my iPos touch. Songs which don't transfer have a dotted grey circle in front of the title?

Hey, I had the exact same problem with my transferring a new album my friend bought on my Mac, to my iphone... It took me two days to figure it out, but it could be either of 2 things:
    1. You don't have the "manually manage music and videos" box checked. If you check it, then try to click and drag it over to your music on your device, it should then sync (on iTunes 11) This was my problem, and I checked that box, and it transferred and downloaded instantly
    2. You don't have enough memory space on your device to put the playlist on. This was the problem for a lot of other people, not me, but they said it worked once they cleared some space on their device.
    Hopes this helps!

  • How can I remove track numbers that have appeared in front of all of my song titles, since the new iTunes update of 12?

    Windows OS 7
    iTunes 12
Ever since the new update with iTunes 12, all of my song titles have a track number before them.
Is there any easy way to remove this without having to go through my entire library?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Nancy

OK, that was the wrong approach. What should have worked would have been the process described in Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash. No doubt your songs not only start with two leading digits, but have also lost the information regarding artist, album and their actual track numbers.
Make a strong cup of coffee/tea/your favourite beverage and review this thread: Any software that can rebuild iTunes songs lost to Unknown Artist/ Unknown Album. It should be possible to restore a pre-upgrade version of your library, the reconnect it to the files (assuming they have been moved). Please feel free to ask questions.

I couldn't get that script program to open.   I'll just have to manually fix this mess.

  • HT1296 I recently purchased songs from my iphone.  All good...  But I then went to put them on my ipod touch.  They seemed to have downloaded but the songs wont play and the song title/the text, appears in a grey colour.

I recently purchased songs from my iphone.  All good...  But I then went to put them on my ipod touch.  They seemed to have downloaded but the songs wont play and the song title/the text, appears in a grey colour and there is a downlaod symbol in front of the song title.  what do i do next??  They play on my iphone and from the itunes library but not from my ipod touch.

If the songs are still on your ipod, make sure autosync is disabled in iTunes on your computer, connect and right click on it in the device list, then choose "transfer purchases" to copy all bought media and apps from your ipod to your computer.
If the songs are not on your computer and got deleted from your ipod as well, you can't get them back, unless you have a backup of your iTunes library as part of your computer backup.

  • Itunes rename smy song titles

When I play some of my songs in my itunes it renames then to the track number in front of the song title i.e. Champagne Supernova becomes 12 Champagne Supernova. Any ideas?

Yet when i alter the song titles in their folder by editing the id tag
Are you editing the filenames in the folder or editing the ID3 tags?
iTunes doesn't care what the file name is. It will use the ID3 tags.
When you edit the info in iTunes, it will change the ID3 tags. If the songs are in the iTunes music folder, iTunes will change the to match the song title ID3 tags.

  • Languages: Some song titles do not show up on iPod menus

    Hi,
I have a few Thai CDs that I have uploaded to my iPod. Unfortunately, the song titles that are using Thai script do not show up in the iPod lists (they show as blank). Is there any way to correct this problem short of translating the names to English in iTunes (the Thai names display correctly in iTunes)?
    Thanks,
    Robert

The iPod does not yet support Thai (look at the tech specs). However some people have put together a hack, check here for info:

  • My songs are in my iTunes library but the song titles do not show up on the songs list.

I have an older generation iPod nano, do I need to go back to an older version of iTunes so I can see the song titles on the song list? If so, does anyone have a link to the oder verson?

Does anyone know of an audio CD burner that will consistently label the original information?
Audio CDs do NOT have info except for CD-TEXT, no matter which program you use.
The Redbook audio CD standard does not allow for anything except CD-TEXT.
iTunes will write CD-TEXT but it will not read CD-TEXT.
You can burn data CDs and all the info will be retained and can be played in iTunes.

  • CD song titles do not appear

I recently burned a CD with iTunes using the "include CD text" option. However, the only iTunes where the song titles show is the computer the CD was created on. Can anyone tell me why this is the case? If this is a quirk with iTunes, I will have to create my CDs using another program.

iTunes can write CD Text, but cannot read it. You can find a list of ripping tools that will read CD Text here.
If you don't have time to read the list, here is a summary: almost all ripping tools can read CD Text except iTunes.

  • Song titles, artitist names, etc., do not show up on burned CD

Can someone please tell me why when I burn a playlist onto a CD the song information does not transfer? It doesn't have song titles, artist names, etc.
    Thanks!

Original CDs from the store do not have track titles either.
iTunes looks them up on the Gracenote CD Database.
Burn the CD and make sure the info is there.
Select the CD, then menu Advanced -> Submit CD track names.
Ont he next computer, use iTUnes (or whatever program) to look up CD track names and it should retrieve them.

When I put a burned cd from one Mac into another Mac, song titles do not show up! I have to enter them manually! My CD player reads the titles that i on the cd; how can I get my Mac to do so?

The problem is that I burned these CD's myself from music that I added from my personal collection to iTunes. The INFO is ON the CD's (it appears perfectly when I put the CD in my Numark mixer...so I know the info is on the CD), but for some reason, my MAC PRO will NOT read the info on the burned CD when I place the CD into the MAC PRO. The CD was burned on a MAC that I no longer own. But there HAS to be a way to transfer songs from a burned CD with the INFO that is on the CD burned with iTunes.

    Hi,
If the songs were purchased from itunes, I suggest that you delete the tracks from your itunes library and move to trash (providing you live in a country that permits redownloading). See http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12283.

  • My music synced to my iPhone but it won't play! There is a box on the right of the song title that almost looks like a stop symbol. What can I do to fix this?

This has never happened to me before and I have had my iPhone for a couple years now. Just today I bought a couple albums on my mac through iTunes and they downloaded just fine. I have iCloud so they were automatically transferred to my phone. When I go to listen to the songs I found that they won't play. There is a gray box on the far right next to the song title. It won't play and after a little while it just skips to the next song. The weird thing is some songs did download all the way and work just fine. Please help!!!!

I have heard of some people having a similar problem, which was resolved by a simple restart of their iPhone.  If that doesn't help you, you may want to consider de-authorizingyour computer in iTunes, then re-authorizing it and performing a sync to your iPhone again.
