In-house vs outsourced

dear experts,
I have a broadbased question to ask regarding modes of bw implementation.
what's the difference , if any, between the 2 types of bw project :
1. Using External bw consulting firm to implement global project with internal bw staff attached to project .
2. Using Internal BW staff only to implement an in-house global project.
It would be great if you could comment for me comparisons between the 2 types of implemention.
Regards
Shankell

Shankell,
Things to look at :
1. If you have internal staff :
Pros : People in house who understand the business , people who are familiar with the business which would reduce the design stage of the project
Cons :
You would have to look at - when the project gets completed - what are you going to do with the staff you have , training costs of tranining internal staff , roles and responsibilities of the same. What would be the ramp up time expected for the internal team to start work.. Costs of having them on your payrolls...
2. External consultants - Quick ramp up , longer time for design and blueprinting , tightly controlled scope , the external agency can be held up if there are any lapses , they might work out cheaper ...
An ideal combination is to have the extarnal agency doing work as specified by an internal team where the internal team would be responsible for design and blueprinting , whilst keeping a tight control on scope.

  • Correct career path?

    Hello everyone,
I just need some advices on which career path to chose. I'm just an IT graduate who's been working as a sales manager for retail shop.I think its time to move on to IT/business support field which i like. I have a basic knowledge on SQL and Oracle.I did IZO-051 and passed first time last week. But Im not sure if OCA is the right path to get a job.what about those business suite exams? I prefer a job which is related to business/sales as well. To be honest iIdont like programing. Can someone tell me which would the correct path of certificates to get a job please.Thank you all.

    Hello,
As the other guys have pointed out, it's difficult to get the experience when no one wants to hire someone without experience. Did you do a work placement year at university? If so, that's valuable experience if it's related to IT. You could use that to get a job in a related field. If not, no worries, you can find other ways....
Ideally you want to get a job working for a company where you are going to be able to move between positions relatively easily. For example, if you go and work for a small company where you work in the IT department make sure that they have all their IT staff in-house (not outsourced to other companies). In a small team of people with a decent IT infrastructure you should have exposure to many different areas (databases, networks, systems) which will then help you see what you like. It's common when you work in a small team that everyone works together and there is less of an distinction between the teams in terms of work.
It might not be the best paid position but the experience you gain will be valuable. You'll probably work very closely with the developers as well. Along a similar note, there are differences in the DBA role. Some roles are called [url http://www.ora00600.com/articles/development-and-production-oracle-dbas.html]Production DBA and others Developer DBAs.
Have a read through of these [url http://www.ora00600.com/articles/oracle-dba-article-list.html]Oracle DBA articles which should give you a little more information on the subject about [url http://www.ora00600.com/articles/what-does-an-oracledba-do.html]what an Oracle DBA does.
    Good luck!
    Rob
P.S. I forgot to say that the qualifications are not the be-all and end-all. I've interviewed so many DBAs who have loads of qualifications but no real world experience so they are not that good. Without the actual experience the qualifications are almost meaningless in my opinion. Most reasonably intelligent people can go away and memorise the books to pass the qualifications without actually knowing that it all means. You need experience and qualifications for them to have meaning. I'm not saying that you don't know what you are doing, just that this should be a consideration :)

  • OutSourcing of assembly process

    Dear Gurus,
I wish to seek advice on these matters.
Our company is planning the requirements for our products but wish to outsource the assembly to other companies.
Our company will be billed by the company which helps us to assemble the products at the end of each month.
       1) How do we carry out availability check and support back order processing as well as detecting delay in production from other companies? ( can it be done using Stock/ Requirements list)?
       2) How do we receive the finished goods in the system from other companies if the purchase order to the other company specifies an assembly fee?
       3) How do we post the invoice from the assembly company which will specify the assembly fee?
    Thanks alot in advance!

    Hi,
You can refer the SAP Help.
There describes how to procure materials using a subcontract order. It describes how subcontract orders are processed in Purchasing, Inventory Management, and Invoice Verification.
WIth Only subcontracting itself , you don't need have heavy PP unless you have in house production.
If without in house production , only MM you can do it.
The advantages would be don't need to activate PP and this will take less time , you don't need maintain master data.
If you activated PP , you need BOM , Routing , Work Center as well as you need activate the MRP per plant.
    TQ.

  • Outsource partial qty of the oepration at production order

    Hi, there,
I am currently working on a mechanical industry project. The customer may outsource partial  quantity of an operation due to capacity limit. That means one operation will be splitted into in-house production and external processing. I try to keep this process in the same production order due to production management concern. However, since oepration qty can't be changed, user will post a final confirmation to original operation to close the in-house production operation. And user will insert an external processing operation right after the original operation. My original idea is to convert the partial qty of PR generated by production order into purhcase order and then close the rest of PR. But I found out it's impossible to do anything on PR Qty except of blocking it. Does anyone ever
have experience on this kind of requirement? Any input is welcome. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Nancy

    Hi,
    1. For your order type PP01in opl8 tcode  in the controlling tab page set the cost collector indicator and default rule as Periodic settlement PP2.
    2.create info record for vendor.
    3.create product collector.(KKF6N)
    4. create production order and release .
5.Goto operation  overview.select the operation for which you are going to outsource.
6.choose function and split order and enter the outsource qty.
    7. Enter the order type and execute.
    8. Now your production order will be two .
    9.  Now choose the second order and goto operation oveview and select the operation and change the control key as PP02 and enter the purchasing details in the External operation view and release the operation and save.
10.Now in the same tab PR will be created and convert it to PO and the external processing of operation begins and process
    is as usual.

  • NLE Equipment suggestions *post house guy's, please*

    Hello folks,
Over the past 3 years or so, I've seen a few posts here that dealt with, '...if you could put together the best Apple-FCP system what would be included?' I've found these threads fascinating and enlighening... As a 35+ year editor, I'm amazed at the level of sharing that goes on these day's in this artform -- that's not 35 years old, that's as a editor, and I don't use that term likely. As an editor in the 70's-80's distinguishing between editor and technical director was pardon the pun, a "blurring thing to do"...
Well, here's that question again, this time, from me....
Take into consideration these final delivery products, WITHOUT owning a digiBeta deck. AND, audio layback done by pro's ELSEWHERE, i.e., outsourced [I've been around long enough to know; have the audio guy take care of THAT] not on the concerned system I'm looking to build...
I've built 2 complete component analog post production suites (in an other lifetime), taking on something like that at this time of my life would be utter foolishness (for all intents and purpose; their gone -- a simple NLE editing work station (hence no need for a server, yet), although it presents its on set of unique problems, I can handle...
This sytem will not be used for outside clients - purely in-house.
Delivery formats: DV, DVCAM, HDV DVD and eventually HD
ALL work will be broadcast spec, does that mean it will air? The client does not towards external distribution, other than the internet which includes streaming video.
Most source material will be generated in-house, initially DV/HDV
    Graphics app's: Illustrator, PS, PainterIX
    Compression app's: ?????
The best G5: (A serious eye on the quad - any nightmares out there?)
    Monitor[s] for G5: ???????
    External RAID: FW800 Array ???????
RAM load (consider extensive use AAE - Motion usage)
Digitizing card/rachmount [if necessary] device, something simple to use (I'm getting older) actually, I'm to instruct 2 tech savey college age art students in the use of the system...
    Computer Monitor: ??????
Output Monitor: NTSC 16:9 & (cheapest HD[V] monitor)
VTR: Sony UVW 1800 component BetaSP [on hand], DSR-11[on hand, and ???????
Audio: Simple 8x2 stereo board w/phantom power (voice overs, scratch track and VideoTape footage audio.
anything else ???? I won't be using a systems guy - I'm THAT guy -- I want the system to work right out of the box, well, after FCP Studio app's are loaded....
Nomenclature for suggested equipment would be helpful -
I'd sure appreciate post house editors to comment as well as those long-in-tooth...
Thanks a lot for your time folks, appreciate it!

Thanks for the info and of course the understanding, althought I am sure someone official browses it now & again my main aim was to get this out there. I had an issue a while ago with EA sports regarding their FIFA 15 game, to cut along story short I was incorrectly banned from their servers for apparently botting so I couldn't play online. Their customer service was diabolical, pretty much on par with this. After some research I found out they were the voted the worse company in the states so that said it all. After being passed from advisor to supervisor to manager and back again everything fell on death ears. So through Google I found as many sites & email addresses as possible and posted/sent my argument. It got as far as the EA president where it was all sorted and I was heavily compensated. If I hadn't of done that though I'd still be banned from their servers.  Will do exactly the same with this case, as everthing goes throught to someone as SKY in the UK it should be a dam sight easier than getting a reply from EA Canada etc.

  • Cloud Backup Solution for outsourced IT Management company

I  really like Carbonite for this. We have used it on our subsidiary of 4 people. It is pretty much set it and forget it. You will get emails when backups are not working for a set amount of time.

In addition to working as an IT Manager, I also work as an outsourced IT Consultant for small / medium sized companies (and some individuals) that don't need or can't afford a full time IT person in house.Part of the services that I provide is ensuring that each customer's computer (or server) is backed up. Now that cloud backup has become more reasonably priced, I am looking for a solution that would allow me to centrally manage these backups for all of the different companies in one place. The current project that I'm working on is for a very small law office that doesn't even have a server, so it's only backing up desktop machines, but as time goes by I hope to implement a standard across all of my clients servers and/or desktops as needed. Some of the companies already have other solutions in place, so I guess my ideal would be to...

  • We have three Ipads in our house.  We have one itunes account with multiple devices like two Iphones and Apple TV.   My question is about our three Ipads.   How can I set up the imessaging and facetime on all three devices while only using one Itunes acct

Okay.  We have three Ipads in our house with only one Itunes account.   When I go into imessaging and facetime on each of the devices, it wants to start switching my wife's cell phone and then the three emails associated with each Ipad to the contact information for all of the Ipads.    As of this morning, only the imessaging and facetime are turned on my wife's iphone and ipad.   My kids imessaging and facetime is turned off.     Do you really have to have an itunes account for each device to make then work???    Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Ryan

There is only one solution. Each user must have their own separate user account. All of their respective data would be contained in their separate user accounts. This also means each will have a separate iTunes Library. If you all use the same third-party apps, then each will have to purchase their own copies under their own Apple IDs. Some data sharing is possible. See:

  • HT4557 We have a wired in network in our house, we also have an apple airport for use with my ipad/our ipods/iphones, etc.  Can we use home sharing if our desktops do not have wifi?

    Hi,
this is my first time on the support board, so hopefully I'm doing this correctly.  We have 3 desktop computers in our family, which are wired in with ethernet cables.  We also use the cables with our laptops (we have various connections throughout the house)  I have an iphone, and an ipad, my boys have ipod touches.  I purchased an airport router to use when I'm using my ipad, etc.  The boys and I would like to be able to share apps that we have purchased.  I'm wondering if there is a way to use home sharing in our situation.
    thanks!

  • Multiple users, devices & Apple IDs in the house. Can we, and how would we, use Home Sharing?

We have three users in the house, each with their own Apple ID, using multiple mac/PC devices.  Can we and how would we use Home Sharing to share music, apps, etc?

Do you have a computer. You can't share music or apps from one mobile device to another. To share photos you need to use photo stream shared albums.

  • I want to buy a new apple tv but it used hdmi cables and my house is only wired for analog.  Is there any way I can use the apple tv on analog cables?

I want to buy a new apple tv but it used hdmi cables and my house is only wired for analog.  Is there any way I can use the apple tv on analog cables?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    It's do-able, but I don't think it's a great idea.
    DVI
Some users with DVI have managed to get their TV's to work with DVI-HDMI cables. DVI carries no audio, so alternative connections need to be explored to enable audio. DVI doesn't necessarily support HDCP as well as other standards used by HDMI (which may or may not be an issue)
    Analogue
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2), 720p/1080p (Apple TV 3)
    DAC
DAC (Example Only - Not a recommendation or suggestion that this is suitable in your circumstances)

  • At a loss. Wiring a possessed house I think! Input needed

    Need some help.
I know and have done a lot of networking No pro, but self taught. Did run Ethernet of my whole house (ex wife's house now ) pre wifi days. Running wires, using switches and routers. All worked. Have down a ton of wifi - all Apple gear for myself in my location, friends and family. Good to go. I currently run a bunch in my home for iPhones, computers, netflix, itunes server, Air Video for all devices. Flawless.
So I'm not a dummy at least. So……
To my dads house. My on going project for a year. Great house. Big. Hand built back in the '50's. All plaster. Well made.
1- His office - cable modem to Airport Extreme - named BASE. Across this room, one Airport express (all AX are older g units) for the stereo from computer.
Now when I try to extend this network only for him to use his iPhone with Apple Remote to control music, I have now bought 5 Airport Expresses - the signal will not carry for more than 10 feet at best in this house (it's possessed I swear). NOT KIDDING.
I put an Express 10 feet from the office to a kitchen, why because any further I get no signal connection.
From this Express another one 10 feet for a den.
But the signal is so weak it doesn't work.
The house is plaster - I guess very well plastered and who knows what metal lathering is behind the plaster? It's a ranch.
What could possibly abort wifi signal like this. Oh, I might add, no iPhones work in the house either. We're in NY.Long Island. Major ATT signal. Nada in house. Go outside no problem.
So I'm going to tackle this again this weekend. Start from scratch. Any insight? I'm asking because I'm at a loss and think I'M NUTS! LOL
What would make wifi not carry for any distance? Lot's of windows in the house too.
I'm on the verge of telling him to have cable run another wire and modem to the other side of the house.
I'm stumped. I was going to post a few times but can't imagine why I can't get this working. Feel like a dunce.
Right now he tells me it's no connection in the den. The last AX extender not 10 feet from him.
    Thanks in advance.

In addition to metal, water also will cause significant reduction in signal. The higher the frequency, the worse the problem. (One of the reasons why in the past submarines needed to surface to use their radios.) Perhaps the plaster or wood is exceptionally wet or the particular plaster they used has a high metal content. You may want to try using only 2.4GHz instead of 5HGz because lower frequencies penetrate walls better. I'm grasping for straws, but I'm not sure what else you could try short of tearing down walls.
I will tell a story of one wiring job I did. My boss gave a quote and approval sight unseen. He normally didn't do this but due to various circumstances and time constraints, he took a gamble. The job was to install a DSL modem and wireless router for a doctor's office. The modem and router were in the managers office. The reception area in the next room would have two workstations about 15 feet away, connected wirelessly. The doctor's office would get one laptop connected wirelessly, about 100 feet at the other end of the building. The building was all wood construction so no one foresaw what happened next. The manager's computer was fine since it was wired. One of the wireless reception workstations was fine with full signal strength since it was a line of sight through an open doorway to the router. The other reception workstation was working but only had 50% signal strength. (Not line of sight to the router.) The doctor's laptop had zero bars. I moved the laptop next to the router and got 100% signal strength. I walked the laptop next to the workstation with line-of-sight, and still got 100%. I walked to the other reception workstation and got 50%, same as the workstation. I walked out of the reception area turned left and started to walk down the hallway to the doctor's office. I took no more than 5 steps and got zero bars! I walked back a few steps and the meter jumped to 50%. I had to do this a few times to fully convince myself. It was only a chance conversation I had with one of the nurses who recalled that the former occupant of the office was a dentist. So we surmised that the room that the router was in might have had the x-ray machine, so they would have lined the walls with lead or whatever. In any case, we ended up having to pull wires. But we learned that regardless of what it looks like on the outside... But this does sound quite similar to your experience.
There's also the time that my coworkers found that the whole wall was 1/4" steel plate. The walls were covered with drywall so we didn't know it was there until we ruined a half dozen drill bits. It seemed like it was armor plate steel. We think the building used to be a indoor gun range or something. And there was the time that we encountered hardened concrete walls at an office using a former military building. Fortunately neither of those had Wi-Fi but we likely would have had signal problems in both cases. It taught us that we can't assume and needed to do a thorough inspection ahead of time.
So while I don't think the house is possessed, I do suspect that the original builder used some funky local material. Maybe he was a conspiracy theorist and has tinfoil in all the walls.

  • If you're getting your first iPhone 5, does it have to have the same carrier as your computer and T.V. at your house? Or could you get a different, cheaper carrier instead?

I'm hopefully getting an iPhone 5 soon, & I'm just wondering if I could get a different carrier for the phone because I heard that AT&T is more expensive than the other carriers. At my house (for our computer & TV) we have AT&T. So, I'm just wondering if I could get a different carrier for the iPhone instead of AT&T.

The iPhone is avaialble in the U.S. with the following major carriers:
    AT&T
    Verizon
    Sprint
    T-Mobile

I just had to reformat the external hard drive that houses my iPhoto library, then restore it from a backup. Now Time Machine is telling me my backup hard drive suddenly does not have the space to complete a backup. I also noticed when I go in to Time Machine, there are only about 5 backups recorded on the ext. hard drive. There were many more before. Any idea what happened and if I have to buy a new back up hard drive?

    Hallo  Kieth ,
I am not quite ready to restore the full iphoto library , as I have days of work re - imputting titles, descriptions and enhancement . I hope that your suggestion works , as I use my Macbook basically to work with digital photography. Through time , I will need to delete my library to recover more disc space and I would hate to have to spend more time re - imputting titles and descriptions all over again .
Thanks for your interest and advice.

  • TS1398 i have a iPhone 4. I am trying to connect to the Wifi at my house, and other places that have free WiFi. I can not get the phone to access any networks in order to connect. Could someone please help me try to figure this out.

I just recently purchased a iPhone 4. I am using it as Prepaid for Verizon. I only get a certain amount of data time, and was trying to use the wifi at my house in order to do somethings online without using my prepaid data, but for some reason it will not pick up the wifi at all, and when i try all the different things I have been told to try it still does not work, how do I get the wifi to work?

You didn't say what you have already tried, but if you haven't already done so, power-cycle your router (unplug it for 15 seconds then plug it back in), then on your phone go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Reset Network Settings, then try joining your wifi again.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600a all of a sudden is not recognized by only my computer in the house

Hi, I have 4 laptops in my house. We have all been connected wirelessly to my HP printer for over a year. All of a sudden, for some reason, my computer no longer sees the printer. I have an ASUS. I run Windows 7 with Windows Firewall. My router is a 3 month old Linksys EA3500. I can print from every other printer in the house, and I can also print from my Android Phone. However, when I try to print from my laptop, it now says that it is detecting printer has been turned off.  I have done everything I can think of to fix this. The only changes I recently made were installing Webroot AV program. I can't be 100% certain, but i'm pretty sure I have printed since that installation, and all of the other computers on my network are using Webroot as well with no issues. Hoping for some help. Here's what I've done so far:
Tried troubleshooting printer via computer. It's gone through the spool service check and whatever else the standard troubleshooting does. It said something about my printer being turned off. It definitely was not, but I unplugged and restarted just to be sure. No fix.
Noticed IP changed on printer and thought maybe something with static vs dynamic (don't know much about this) so went to "update IP address" on my laptop and updated the info. Checked the router settings info by entering printer's ip in browser. Printer shows connected and ready and all looks good. I pinged the ip and got results. Mac filtering is not enabled so I don't need to deal with that. SSID is not hidden. The 802.11 configuration says that the network type is WPA-PSK with WPA2 and AES selected for encryption. Same as it always has been.
Double checked to make sure printer was recognizable by my firewall. It is on the accepted list.
Last resort: I uninstalled the printer software and deleted the device from my laptop. Attempted reinstall, but when it gets to the part where it's supposed to search for the printer it says unable to find. I enter the IP address from the printer and it still cannot find. I enter the host name and it still can't find. Since I uninstalled everything, I can no longer install the printer at all.
Went to drivers on line and tried using the install via online option. same results. "unable to find printer".
I unpugged the printer from the wall again, this time for over an hour, hoping it would reset but realizing this probabaly isn't the issue  since every other laptop can print in my house.
Tried to connect ethernet cable and install printer that way. Plugged one end into router and other into printer as directed on troubleshooting tips. Ran Disk software and it doesn't install the printer. IP address changes on printer when I use ethernet and I am entering new ip accordingly.
Reset my modem and restarted. Reinitialized my router and then used the software to reconfigure it. did the standard 'wait ten seconds and plug everything back in and reboot computer'. No fix.
Checked my wireless network adapter setting to make sure I have most updated drivers. I do.
Deleted every single thing that relates to my printer in every folder and in regedit.
Tried reinstalling printer both wirelessly and with ethernet. Still unable to find printer either way.
I have changed no settings that I can think of since the printer last worked a few weeks ago. As I said, every other computer prints perfectly. The only thing I can think that's different is that all the oher laptops are running Windows 8 and I'm still on 7, but that didn't matter before, and I can print from the HP print software on my phone.
Please somebody tell me what I'm missing here. I'm going bonkers. Thank you so much to everyone who takes the time to reply on this support forum.
    This question was solved.

Well you have done quite a bit.  Let's try here if you haven't.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02915280&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc...
Then let's give this a shot.
These settings are for setting up your wireless printer to stay connected to your router, keep wireless devices better connected and makes your router secure and hack proof.
    1. Set a static IP in the printer (click here) outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual).
This is for Linksys routers but can be used for all routers. Verify your DHCP range and change this
first if needed. More Wireless Printing help is here (Windows solution 4, static IP).
    2. Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off' is disabled.  Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going to the
printers IP address in your browsers address bar, click Settings Tab/Auto Off. Or use the Printer
       Assistant, Printer Home Page (EWS).
    3. If the printer supports and has IPv6 enabled, turn off IPv6 in the printer.
    4. If needed and you assigned a static IP address, try using 8.8.8.8 for the Manual DNS server and
         8.8.4.4 preferred DNS server.
In the router: (Refer to your router manual for information)
    5. Use a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
    6. Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.
    7. Always use WPA2-AES (Personal) encryption, but you can try ‘mixed’ mode.
    8. Disable WPS and never use it and disable UPnP for the routers security. Nobody can hack your
system now and helps with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, search the web).
    9. If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands), make sure the SSID’s are NOT the same,
they must be different for all bands, even for any Guest networks.
    10. SSID broadcast must be enabled.
    11. Save all settings. Power off both, wait 2 mins.  Power on router wait 2 mins.
