In latest upgrade of firefox (apparently 3.6.8), links that used to display correctly now display as plain text, and are un-clickable.

Not sure about the protocol, because I found the problem, the question above, and have already solved it, and wanted to get the info out.
If a "<a ...>" link has the pathname split across lines, the link no longer displays correctly. Oddly, if you right-click it, it is there, and you can "Copy Link Location". But, you cannot click the link.
Example:
<A HREF="ftp://some.domain.com/bogus-storage-management/maintenance/client/version/Windows/x64/v621/6.2.1
.my_file.htm">README</A>
does not work, but
<A HREF="ftp://some.domain.com/bogus-storage-management/maintenance/client/version/Windows/x64/v621/6.2.1.my_file.htm">README</A>
does (assuming this question box doesn't split that line too ;^).

Yeah, there shouldn't really be any line breaks in a URL, if that's the problem.
I read a blog post ([http://www.owlfolio.org/htmletc/css-data-theft/ Data theft with CSS]) about the recent security fix for malicious style sheets, and one of the targeted behaviors did involve line breaks in a URL. Perhaps the anchor tag case is an unintended side effect of the CSS parsing change??

  • I installed the latest version of Firefox last night. It worked 3-4 times flawlessly. Now, it crashes at startup and gives me a box with crash detail report. How can I fix this?

I have a brand new HP dv8t laptop that is straight from the manufacturer 2 days ago.
Last night, I attempted to download and installed the latest version of Firefox. After installing, it worked great for an hour or so (3.4 different sessions).
Then, this morning when I came back to the computer, Firefox crashes at startup and gives me the option of finding a solution online or quitting the program.
    How aggravating!
I have installed this same version on 2 other computers that I own, without any issue.
I have attempted to uninstall Firefox from the dv8 and reinstalling, to no avail.
I cannot find the crash report, but I do this see this message once the app crashes:

You might try using the add-on 'NoSquint' which allows numerous zoom options specific to each page you visit & keeps your settings - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nosquint/
If you want to go back to 3.6x, you will find it here:

In most cases you can simply "upgrade" (meaning downgrade) directly from the installation. It would be a good idea to save your passwords & bookmarks just to be on the safe side.

  • With the latest upgrade to 7.0.1 the Url's that appear on on the pull down of the URL bar, are in a different order and one that doesn't appear to have any logic to it. what determines the order?

In the past, the URL's used seemed to be in order of use. The sites I went to most often were at the top of the pull down list. Now they are jumbled.
FWIW, I find this feature to be very useful. I use it routinely as a very quick way to get back to sites I visit most frequently. I use the bookmark bar for secondary sites, and bookmarks for tertiary sites.

I followed the instructions in your first link, but I don't have a user.js file, and in any event, the instructions there aren't really relevant. The problem isn't that Firefox doesn't remember this setting, it's that I can't set Firefox to put a New Tab button on my Navigation bar in the first place because it's not in the list of items I can select. And yes, I've tried restoring the default set several different times with no effect. I know that the button exists, because I can see it on the copy on my laptop, even after the upgrade. The only thing I haven't tried (maybe) is disabling all plugins, so I'll try that and report back.

  • When i open the add ons page in firefox the pages do not display correctly the pages only show text and are in lists

when i click on the add ons tab the page does not show correctly. There are no graphics just text. It is difficult to view the page details. If you click on a link within the page the next page opens with exactly the same problem. All other tabs and pages open and display correctly

    Hi,
If you're using a theme you can try to temporarily switch to the '''Default''' theme in Tools > Add-ons > Appearance. If the problem persists, please check if this happens in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe Mode]. Safe mode disables the installed '''Extensions''', and themes ('''Appearance''') in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons'''. Hardware acceleration is also temporarily disabled - the manual setting is '''Tools''' > '''Options''' > '''Advanced''' > '''General''' > [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window%20-%20Advanced%20panel?as=u '''Use hardware acceleration when available''']. All these settings/options/add-ons can also be individually or collectively disabled/enabled/changed in Firefox normal mode to check if an extension, theme, option or hardware acceleration is causing issues. Disabling/enabling hardware acceleration, and some types of add-ons in normal mode may require a Firefox restart.

  • I was "forced" to download the latest version of Firefox a day or so ago to version 31.0 It is s l o w and crashes at least 5-6 times DAILY! Get it off !!

see above. VERY FRUSTRATED. I don't have time for this! switching to another browser.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

  • Since the upgrade to firefox 3.6, why can I not even bring it up now?

Since upgrading to firefox 3.6 I have not been able to launch the program. I have uninstalled and re-loaded it yet nothing happens. The exe file is present and the shortcut shows up on my desktop but it refuses to launch, even logged in as the administrater.
Windows Explorer is what I am using to contact you. It is working just fine as well as my other internet programs.
I even went back and restored my computer to an earlier date then 11/5/2010 (the date the upgrade was launched) with no avail.
Can you help me with this situation.

From here it looks like you used Safari instead. Lots of choices that's what I like.
You did end Firefox and try to restart didn't you?
If you did then I would expect you have a problem with your Firewall, and would have had it before, does not affect IE, it does affect Firefox, I don't know about other browsers. See

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. I have I pad 2, and I recently reset my password. And now I am not able to upgrade my old apps. Usually it will not ask apple password, but now it's asking password and when I type the password ir says the password is wrong. What would be the problem?

If the old ID is yours, and if your current ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID), go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • I updated my old mac Mini to OSX10.5 (Leopard) and installed the latest version of Firefox, only to get a message that it 'is not compatible with this architecture'. Any suggestions on how to get a superior web browser back?

Upgraded old Mac mini (from 10.4 to 10.6) PowerPC G4 Processor, downloaded latest version of Firefox and ran installer, got a dialogue box that said 'not compatible with this architecture', now I don't have Firefox at all, and it is my preferred browser.

Firefox '''4 versions and later do not run on a PowerPC Mac''' and require at least OS X 10.5 and an '''Intel Mac'''.
The''' latest supported version for your os is 3.6.26''' , you can download it from:

Macbook air Wi Fi and sound stops every time it goes to sleep. i have to  restart it every time to use wifi and sounds. this started happening just after the latest upgrade to OS X. any reasons why its doing that and how to fix it.

Test after taking each of the following steps. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
    3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    6. In some cases, the problem has been resolved by repairing permissions on the startup volume.
    7. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    8. Reinstall OS X.

  • Since the latest update for firefox, if I choose a link from a google search, it gets redirected to a totally different search engine

I need access to a work related website. the main page of the website opens up with out any issues, but when I click on any of the links nothing happens. I have iPhone software 2.2.1 (SH11),
    MAC 0S X 10.5.5
    XCode 3.1.2
In organiser it says The Developer Disk Image could not be mounted.
Xcode could not find an appropriate Developer Disk Image to mount on Richard’s iPhone. Please contact Apple for the 2.2.1 (5H11) device support package.
Also in Xcode it says that the active sdk is Device - 2.2. There is no version 2.2.1 for me to select and I cannot add a new active SDK.
I have downloaded the iphonesdk_for_iphone_os2.2.19m2621afinal.dmg and tried installing it which had no effect to the error above.
I tried uninstalling Xcode then re-installing using this sdk but again no effect
I tried installing the iPhoneSDK_2.2 on its own but again no effect
I tried restoring the iPhone but again no effect
I've tried the above numerous times, restarting xcode and restating the complete system but still to no effect.
I am relatively new to MACs so I might be doing something wrong (ie not installing or uninstalling properly) but I am really lost now as to what to do.
    Please advise.
    Thanks
