In need help: Analytic Report with Group by

Good morning,
I am trying to create a report with subtotal and grand total, which of couse goes to the group by clause, with rollup, cube, grouping... etc. I'd like to use rollup, then some columns in the Select list have to be put into the Group By clause, which is not supposed to be. So I had to use one of SUM, AVG, MIN and MAX functions, to make those columns as *aggregated, which is wrong.
Another alternative I tried is to use Cube and Grouping_id to be the filter. However, that is still very cumbentsome and error-prone, also the order of the display is absolutely out of control.
I am trying hard to stick to the first option of using the Rollup, since the result is very close to what I want, but avoid the usage of aggregation functions. For example, if I want to display column A, which should not be grouped. Other than using those aggregation functions, what I can do?

It takes some time to understand how they work and also it takes some time to understand how to utilize them. I have solved some issues in reporting using them, avoiding the overkill of aggregates.

For the periods, create a seperate dummy query and then use it as column group in the multi query matrix.

Report with grouping issue

I have a report which have year(2008), Category(0-1,2-3, ALL), product(0,1,2,3,4..), % sales. I group by all the category elements and called it as All, I am not getting the right percentage sales for the Category ALL other wise for 0-1,2-3 i am getting it right. Please advise where i am doing it wrong. please find the blog for a screen shot of my issue.

The example given by Oracle (from the above link) using the following SQL for a matrix report is flawed.
SELECT DEPTNO, JOB, SUM(SAL)
FROM EMP
GROUP BY DEPTNO, JOB
ORDER BY DEPTNO, JOB
The SUM function handled by the query restricts you from doing so many things - especially when you want the empty fields to be filled by 0 (by using the Value if Null property).
If the query is changed to ''SELECT DEPTNO, JOB, SAL FROM EMP' , and use the SUM function in the wizard to build the Matrix cell, then the 'Value if Null' property can be used without any issues.
This also makes Section 25.6 (Add zeroes in place of blanks) of the documentation a joke.
Anyway, that's my cents worth....

Need help in Report From SQL Query

I am facing a problem with a report. I need your help.
I am creating a Report From SQL Query (Portal) with some arguments passed at runtime. I am able to view the output, if the query returns few rows ( arount 1000 rows). But for some inputs it needs to generate >15000 records, at this point the page is getting time out (i think!) and showing error page. I am able to execute query from the SQL Plus console ot using TOAD editor. Here the query is not taking more that 2 mins time to show the result.
If i am executing from Portal i observed that, once i give the appropriate input and hit submit button a new oracle process is getting created for the query on UNIX (I am usign "TOP" command to check processes). The browser page will be shown error page after 5 minutes (i am assuming session time out!) , but on the backend the process will be executed for more than 30 mins.
I tried also increase the page time out in httpd.conf, but no use.
The data returned as a result of the query is sized more than 10 MB. Is caching this much data is possible by the browser page? is the returned data is creating any problem here.
Please help me to find appropriate reasone for the failure?

There could be a variety of reasons for the delayed processing of this report. That includes parameter settings for that page, cache settings, network configurations, etc.
- explore best optimization for your query;
- evaluate portal for best performance configuration; you may follow this note (Doc ID: *438794.1* ) for ideas;
- third: for that particular page carrying that report, you can use caching wisely. browser cache is neither decent for large files, nor practical. instead, explore the page cache settings that portal provides.
- also look for various log files (application.log and apache logs) if you are getting any warnings reflecting on some kind of processing halt.
- and last but not the least: if you happen to bring up a portal report with more than 10000 rows for display then think about the usage of the report. Evaluate whether that report is good/useful for anything?

Need help in setting up Group Policy for same user in local system and Terminal server

Hi All,
Currently our remote users are using our network using VPN client over internet.
They are generally at their home computer and doing VPN as they have to work only in one RDP server for application.
We actually have a OU created for these RDP users and assign then some strict policy like they can not use any other .exe,they can not user any explorer ,they can not even use windows explorer when they are on RDP they just use one exe of their application.
Now what my management want is they want their home computers in Domain and want them to login via their same credentials they are using for RDP but they don't want them to restrict in their home computers with any strict policy.
Now my confusion is how can I configure different policies for same users or same OU.
Can any one guide me please...

you can achieve this fairly easily with group policy.
create an OU and put your remote desktop servers in that OU.
configure both user and computer policies in a group policy and link it to that ou.
you need to enable loopback mode - you may want it in merge or replace depending on your other policies you have. Probably replace though I would guess. this is set in the computer configuration > admin templates > system / group policy section.
now remove the policy you have currently setup for your users on the users OU containing the rdp users. If you want you can move these users back to your main users OU.
when your users login to the RDP server the settings in the user section of the GPO linked to the RDP Servers OU will apply.
when the user logs in to their own computer the policies from the user OU and computer OU will apply - but not the more restrictive RDP OU.
hope that makes sense.

Need help Crystal Reports running in BO 4.1 while using Universe as database connection.

Sorry, I may not know how to describe this in the correct technical manner, but I'll explain in as simple terms as I can.
I open up Crystal Reports 2013 click new document
and it begins to ask for Database Expert.
I select Universes and log in to my Business Objects Enterprise Explorer.   I then select the Universe that I want to write my report with,
then i save the rpt on my local machine.
then I log into my Business Objects 4.1 CMC or BI and upload this rpt file so that I can begin to schedule the report for example...
but the problem i have is whenever I try to run the report,
it asks for a prompt for my database connection...
it displays the Universe name, but User Name Password, I am not sure what to write,
do I write My login for Business Objects? do I write the user name password of the database that Universe uses?
in CMC I see a database configuration, I tried many combinations and still have been receiving the following error message
The viewer could not process an event. The database logon information for this report is either incomplete or incorrect. []
---- Error code:0 [CRWEB00000119]
From all I read the point of using the Universe in Crystal reports is to be automatic in such a way that it doesnt need the database conneciton, because its technically using the Universe as the database connection....
so what am I doing wrong here?    maybe its my database configuration,    I keep reading that it doesnt need anything...   that you upload the Crystal Reports and it would just work...
any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated..

What is the reporting DB used?
The trick with your configuration is the following:
- Universe Designer: 32bits application that may work fine on your desktop
- Crystal 2013: 32bits application as well
- When you export to the repository, Web Intelligence (64bits) has to process the Universe to extract the query.
Your server should have the drivers required for Crystal + Universe: 32bit and 64bit versions.

Need help for reporting

hi,
Hope I did not post to the wrong place. but I really need help here. I've been using Crystal Report all these while before I tried out java. However, there is a problem here.
I've been doing some complex reports that comes with subreports and grabing values from the program. but there is no one program that i found can really support the reporting in java. I've even tried the crystal clear and Jbuilder enterprise trial version (which comes with crystal report). but I still can't get the output that I want.
So, I'm here to ask :
1. what sort of reporting system r u using that is recommended?
2. And if I were to continue supporting crystal report where can I get a better component that supports crystal report ?
3. And where can I get tutorials for java integration with crystal reports?

Also check out i-text. It's an open source Java -> PDF tool. You will need to write a mapper to go from JDBC ResultSet to your own custom Java class. Otherwise, it is almost like writing HTML programatically.

Need help in arranging choice group and textfield on screen

Hi friends
i want to display choice element (along with its text) and textfield(small one) in a single row.i want many such rows.
i tried my best to do that.but couldent get as what i wished ,textfields comes down.
Actually i want value inside textfield and name of the choice element when i click on any choice element,I did that functionality but only alignment is problem.
if anyone has tried or any idea about how to get this alignment please let me know.

Need help to start with some file and text manipulation

Hello script mavens,
I need help with starting a script that does the following:
-within a base folder it takes an inventory (list?) of all the files (which happen to be image files).
-creates a new folder inside the base folder and calls it imagesX where X increases by one every time the script is run
-moves all the files into the images folder
-within the base folder it creates a new text file and calls it imagesX.js
-writes a "//-" into imagesX.js
-then writes the list of filenames into the imagesX.js twice, separated by an empty line, and adds a semicolon to the end of each filename and saves imagesX.js
-from a folder a level above the base folder it copies a file called index.html into the base folder and renames in indexX.html
-in indexX.html it replaces a string "replaceThis" with "imagesX.js"
The task is more complex but this would help me tremendously do the rest.
If I am asking for too much on this forum please let me know

This should get you started.
The description of how you want to write the data isn't clear, but the rest should work (untested):

-- then writes the list of filenames into the imagesX.js twice, separated by an empty line, and adds a semicolon to the end of each filename and saves imagesX.js

Aggregrate function in report with group by

I have SQL report with all the records and Total of some of the fields in end.
I wanted to group them by item1 and than show the Total for the fields for each Item

In your report have a break formatting section, select the column you wish to break (sub-total on).. make sur eto set the sum checkbox on the column you ar edoing the break on too! It will then build the sub-total line for you..

i need a report in my application. i was able to make a report using Jasper Report. but i need help on how to connect from SJSC to jasper. how do i call the report created?
