In-place upgrade of CF10 from 32-bit to 64-bit?

We initially installed CF10 32-bit because we had some legacy COM objects that needed to run.  We've finally gotten rid of those objects and I would like to convert to 64-bit.  Is there an easy way to convert/upgrade that would preserve all/most/some of my configuration?  Or do I have to do a complete uninstall/reinstall?
Windows Server 2008 R2
IIS 7.5
CF10 Standard
thanks!

I recommend doing a clean uninstall/install.  You can make a copy of the neo-*.xml files found in \ColdFusion10\cfusion\lib somewhere first.  These .xml files contain most of the configuration settings you set in CF Administrator.  After installing the 64-bit version, make a backup of the clean .xml files somewhere safe, then copy over the ones you grabbed from your 32-bit installation.  That way, if ColdFusion restarts without issue, you are good to go.  If not, you have backups of clean .xml files to restore from.

  • Upgrading Solaris 10 from 32-bit to 64-bit in a VirtualBox VM

    Hello,
I am running 32-bit Sol 10 u5 x86 as a guest in a Sun VirtualBox (Vbox) virtual machine on a 32-bit WinXP host with 64-bit VT-capable Xeon processors, and am considering upgrading Solaris 10 to 64-bit using the latest version of Vbox (2.0.0). After installing WinXP Professional x64 and the 64-bit version of Vbox, will I have to completely re-install Sol 10 to get it to run in 64-bit, or is there some way to get it to 64-bit without a re-install? The Vbox forums suggested that I post this question on a Solaris forum, as they don't know the answer.
They apparently also do not know if Windows XP x64 is a compatible host OS on which to run 64-bit guests. They list only Vista, Linux, and OpenSolaris as supported 64-bit host OSs. Has anyone used WinXP x64 as a host for Vbox 64-bit guests? Due to policy, Vista is not available to me on my system/network.
    Thank you...

The x86 installer will place both 32-bit and 64-bit code on the disk.
The loader fired by GRUB will attempt to detect the proper hardware and launch the correct kernel.
Other portions of the upgrade could conceivably cause a problem, but having the CPUs go from 32-bit only to 64-bit capable shouldn't be an issue. You don't have to make any changes.

  • Upgrading Windows 7 from 32 bit to 64 bit in Macbook Pro

Ok so I have Windows 7 32 bit installed in my Macbook Pro and I was wondering if I could install the 64 bit version of Windows 7 from the Windows OS instead of doing the whole Bootcamp thing from the Mac OS?

There is no way. Nothing other than bootcamp is up to date on 64 bit. You can also get windows 8 if you like. I suggest you back everything up on a hard drive before changing as well. just to be safe

  • Migrating EBS from 32-bit  to 64-bit

    Hi,
I have a R12 Instance(12.1.3) with 11.1.0.7 database on 32-bit Linux. Now we are planning to do a clone of the existing R12 Instance to a newly created 64-bit Linux server. So i would like to know the steps involved in migrating the E-Business Suite from 32-bit to 64-bit.
    Regards,
    Vineel.C

I had gone through the Metalink Note[471566.1] which you had sent me. It was useful but internally it had referred to another Note:762669.1 which says in Migrate from Linux 32-bit to Linux 64-bit
h.Upgrade the database from 32-bit to 64-bit (recompile pl/sql modules and change the word size) by running $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql. Refer to the usage and notes sections in the script for instructions on how to run it.
But in general utlrp.sql is used for compiling Invalid objects.
Can you elaborate on this.Because of the word size change (from 32-bit to 64-bit), the database objects will be invalidated and you need to run utlrp.sql script to compile them.
    Difference between UTLRP.SQL - UTLIRP.SQL - UTLIP.SQL? [ID 272322.1]
    Changing between 32-bit and 64-bit Word Sizes [ID 62290.1] -- Step 16. Run utlirp.sql

    Hi All,
We have SAP in Distributed Environmnet( Central Instance running on 32-bit windows & Database instance is running on 64-bit AIX).
Since there are lots of memory dumps , we have decided to upgrade Central instance from 32-bit to 64-bit windows.
We don't want to disturd database instance as it is alredy running on 64-bit.
Please share your thoughts to accmplish this task.

Ah ... during this migration, it'd also be nice to migrate your CI to a virtual name.  This way, for future migrations, you won't have to change the profiles.
If you decide not to migrate to a virtual name, then make sure you adjust the default and instance profiles to reference the new server name for CI.
If you decide to migrate to virtual name ...
    1.  Assign 2nd static IP to your server.
    2.  Insert your virtual name in the following registry and reboot:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\MSV1_0 > create new multi string variable with name "BackConnectionHostNames" and put as value the virtual name.
yourHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters > create new multi string variable with name "OptionalNames" and put as value the virtual name.
    3.  Adjust the c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts to include mapping of 2nd static IP to the virtual name.
    4.  Map your virtual name to the secondary static IP in WINS.
    5.  Make sure you rebooted the server.  Log into the server and do a "net view virtualname" and "net view physicalname", both should be successful.  Do not continue until this is successful, most problems are caused by DNS vs WINS, some corporations need the mapping in DNS and not WINS, some the otherway around.
    6.  Change the user variable to include SAPLOCALHOST and SAPLOCALHOSTFULL, set both to the virtual name.
    7.  Adjust the start and instance profile of the CI to include SAPLOCALHOST and SAPLOCALHOSTFULL.
    8.  Cycle the SAP NT services to make sure the new user variables are adapted.
    9.  Adjust all default and profiles to adapt to the new CI.
    10.  Adjust STMS to use new CI name.
And, you can also migrate DB to a virtual name as well using the same registry entries.  Except DB name doesn't require it's own IP, so it can share the same IP as the physical server.  Adjust the user environment variables and SAP profiles afterwards to adapt to new virtual name.

  • "Class Not Registered" after switching from 32-bit to 64-bit LabVIEW.

I recently upgraded LabVIEW 2012 from 32-bit to 64-bit.  Now I'm getting an error that says "Class not Registered".  It still works just fine with the 32-bit version.

Thank you Nathan and Sunshine.  The problem is I didn't build the program - it came with the instrument.  As far as I can tell this is what's going on:  The vi's are replete with these activeX objects - all communication with the instruments is done through invoke and property nodes.  After switching to 64-bit the very first sub vi has an error at the very first command (Err (-2147221164)). It's a reference (seemingly to a class but I actually have no idea what that means) passed to the "Open Automation Function".  I'll attach a screen shot for the sake of overkill.

I compared the registry with a working system but the Counters - and all other keys - looked fine.
At the same time as upgrading a DC a colleague was updating an unrelated server, and he started to see similar events in the event log (but for the Dell OpenManage Essentials service, not ADWS). The error was complaining about KERNELBASE.dll which set my
spider sense tingling. We knew that this server had Windows Updates pending. Fully updating it solved the problem on that server.
I solved the ADWS problem in the end by fully Windows Updating the DC. In particular, the ADWS Service started successfully after installing KB2919355 and rebooting. That also
'unlocked' a further 59 updates pending.
After the in-place upgrade I always fully Windows Update but I'm 99% certain that KB2919355 did NOT show up when I did a Check for Updates straight after a reboot so I thought the DC was up-to-date. I then spent hours investigating the ADWS problem and rebooted
as part of the diagnostics. It was then that I noticed on the logon screen that there were updates pending...
Moral of the story? Windows Update, then Update again, and again, and again. The length of time it takes to Windows Update after an upgrade from 2008R2 to 2012R2 is painful though.

  • SCOM 2007 server OS upgrade from 32 bit Win 2003 SP2 to Win 2008 R2 64 bit

    Dear Experts,
We are planning to upgrade where in SCOM 2007 R2 presents on 32 bit Virtual Machine Win 2003 SP2 to Win 2008 R2 32 bit or 64 bit. Though OpsManager Database is already upgraded to SQL 2008 R2 from SQL 2005. So No pblm with DB upgradation.
So my point is If I go ahead to upgrade from Win 2003 (SCOM 2007 R2 resides) to Win 2008 R2 does it create any impacts on SCOM 2007 R2 environment ? Please let me know the procedure for this or any documentation is available to complete this.
    Thanks in advanced!
    Saravana Raja

    Firstly,
Please note that you can only upgrade an OS to the same architecture (i.e. from x86 to x86, and not to x64). See the following Support Article about supported upgrade paths for Windows Server 2003: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/951041?wa=wsignin1.0.
Therefore, if you plan to upgrade to a x64 architecture, you will need to perform a new installation, and not an in-place upgrade. If you are going that route, I'd suggest skipping Windows Server 2008 R2, and try to push to Windows Server 2012 if not Windows
Server 2012 R2; to more future-proof your environment.
Further, If you are going to perform a new OS installation (to move into x64 architecture), why not also utilize the "new installation" requirement in that scenario to also upgrade to System Center 2012 R2 Operations Manager?
The base scenario would be for you to perform an in-place upgrade of Windows Server 2003 x86 to Windows Server 2008 R2 x86. Except, there is no x86 version of Windows Server 2008 R2, only x64! Note: Windows Server 2008 (without the 'R2') has an x86 option.

  • Out-of-place upgrade to 11.2.0.4 (from 11.2.0.3); how does it affect certain items?

    Hi All,
I've never done a db patch set update, and from what I've read today, I will need to do a full installation of 11.2.0.4 to have this patch set applied.
This sounds scary and being a rookie Oracle DBA, what does this mean to my existing Oracle Database installation (Oracle 11GR2 on Windows Server 2008R2)?
If I do an out-of-place upgrade (Oracle recommended), and create a new home, what will happen to the existing schemas/etc?
My application is configured to connect to SERVERA, SID=123 so when I install a new home, etc, does this change anything? I've read I need to modify the tnsnames files in my new home to be similar to my current tnsnames file..
Basically, I want to upgrade to patchset 11.2.0.4 b/c it's supposed to address a bug I have, but I want to be able to keep the 'settings' the same for the end users/applications (SERVERA, SID=123).
    Thanks in advance

You have to remember that the database software/binaries are separate from the database itself.  Typically, you first install the software (like you did for 11.2.0.3) and then create a database. Best practice states that the location of the database files should be outside/different then the location of the binaries.
When you install your new 11.2.0.4 in a new location, that is all that you are doing - the install does not affect the existing database. Once the 11.2.0.4 software is installed, you can upgrade the database by following the steps in the upgrade guide (the database files stay where they are, but the database gets upgraded from 11.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.4) and when the upgrade is completed successfully, the old (11.2.0.3) binaries can be de-installed at leisure.

  • 11.1.1.5 out-of-place upgrade how to continue the compositeIds from old env

    Hi,
We are planning to upgrade SOA 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.1.5. Don't want to do an inplace upgrade but want to do out-of-place upgrade i.e. want to install 11.1.1.5 from fresh and move over the composites to new environment so atleast will have a back environment. Have question how can we make sure in 11.1.1.5 we start the composite_ids and instance_ids from where it left off in 11.1.1.3 as we are using those compositeIds and instanceIds in our backend system. So need to make sure when we move over to 11.1.1.5 none of our compositeIds and Instance Ids are repeated. Any idea how to have this done.

Log in as root, and change the permission and ownership of the previous release Grid home using the following command syntax, where oldGH is the previous release Grid home, swowner is the Oracle Grid Infrastructure installation owner, and oldGHParent is the parent directory of the previous release Grid home:
    #chmod -R 755 oldGH

I recently upgraded to Mavericks from Snow Leopard. Does Snow Leopard still exist on my Mac? If so, is it possible to restart under Snow Leopard in order to run PowerPC apps? If not, is there an OS available in 64 bit that supports PowerPC apps? Mav ***.

The only reason I upgraded to Mavericks was because my Snow Leopard OS was 32 bit, which I was told would support only 4GB of RAM.
That wasn't quite right. You can put in as much RAM as your Mac's hardware supports. The division is in the apps themselves. A 32 bit app can't use more than 4 GB or RAM. A 64 bit app can use much more.
For example, as a 32 bit only version, Photoshop CS3 can't use more 4GB of RAM, no matter how much you actually have installed. CS4 or later can use all the RAM you want to throw at it.
