Inaccurate import of DWG into CS3 (CS2 okay)

I work in an engineering environment and just updated to CS3. I'm pretty happy except for a foible in the import engine for DWG files. For some reason the import engine has changed and now the size of imported mechanical files is wrong. As an example, if I import a 10-inch square DWG file it gets imported into CS3 as 9.9945-inches square. CS2 does not have this foible and imports accurately.
If I copy and past from CS2, it retains the proper dimensions.
I hope Adobe fixes this...

If you want this fixed you will have to make a little effort, I once made a bug report at CAD files and Adobe responded they fixed that issue but there were others I mentioned and they responded and I had a little influence but only a little and one or two things were changed besides the issue I reported.
Then Adobe no longer asked me about issues related to CAD. So I think they stopped receiving bug reports about CAD issues like this one whcih we receive frequently on the Forum.
If you ll file this bug report then it might have influence nd they might come around and see if thy can fix it.
It is important you tell them how this adversely effects your work flow. I believe this may never have actually been brought to their attention.
I know I have never filed it as an issue since it does not affect my work.

  • VBA code to import scanned images into Photoshop CS2 with TWAIN

    Hi,
    I have to develop a solution that automates the scanning of an image using the TWAIN driver interface. Once scanned, the image appears as a new document in Photoshop where it will be further processed using VBScript scripts.
    The solution so far :
    Using the freeware 'EZTW32.dll' (copied into C:\WINDOWS\System\), I am able to open the TWAIN scan dialogue on screen, using the function 'TWAIN_AcquireToClipboard(Me.Hwnd, nPixTypes) from the 'EZTW32' dll.
    Once the image is scanned, the TWAIN driver is automatically closed, leaving the scanned image on the Windows clipboard.
    I then launch Photoshop CS2 using a shell code :

    OK, this works up to a point. The newly scanned image appears automatically in Photoshop.
    The big problem is that when the user makes a change in resolution or draws a selection box in the TWAIN dialog, this data is not recovered from TWAIN, so the image size parameters in the new document cannot be set.
    A beter solution would be to write code that emulates the menu commands in Photoshop CS2:
    File -> Import -> [Current Scanner]
    that launches the TWAIN driver for the current scanner (the code must close TWAIN immediately after scanning). In this case, the resolution and image selection parameters are also imported into the new document.
    I am currently refering to the Photoshop CS2 SDK. Do I need to request the Advanced SDK ?
    Once beyond this point, then I think I can continue the image processing routines using VBScript as per the SDK.
    Any help or other pointers to the TWAIN problem would be VERY APPRECIATED !

    I have now fully resolved the TWAIN problem. It works perfectly and is very robust. I am now continuing with the batch image processing for the newly scanned images using the Photoshop CS2 SDK scripting documents, that I find very detailed, well written, and VERY helpful :)

  • Why does Aperture crash when importing modified image into Photoshop CS2?

    I have been using Aperture 2.1.4 for the past 2 years and really like the interface. But, I've had one nagging problem: I begin by scanning all of my slides with the Nikon Coolscan 4000 and save them as large tiff files @ approx. 55mb each. I then import each slide with a custom color profile into Aperture. I then optimize the image including white balance, levels, and color adjustments. When I want to make additional changes that I'm not able to do in Aperture, I attempt to send the image to Photoshop CS2 for further processing. But, at this point, Aperture crashes. After this, I get a message saying "do you want to re-open Aperture or quit?" Additionally, I often get the message "Aperture has applied new settings. Do want to keep these new settings or use the original settings?" Since I don't know what will happen if I choose "use the new settings," I always select "keep the original settings." And, when I open Aperture again and try, again, to send the image to Photoshop CS2 to edit, Aperture crashes again. Has anyone had the same or similar problem who can give me some ideas of how to solve this issue! Thanks.

    Welcome to the forums!
    It sounds like there may be a permissions issue between the two apps, Aperture using one and PS another.
    1. Are you logged in as an administrator?
    You need to be.
    2. Where is your library stored, is it in the picture folder of your user directory?
    If so moving it in to the general area of your MacHD may help get over some of these issues.
    3. Have you run any of the Ap First Aid steps? Have a read of this page;

  • Loosing D300 Picture Control settings when importing RAW files into CS3!!

    Hi there...I would really appreciate some help!!
    I have recently bought a D300/Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 which I love, however, I'm getting increasingly frustrated by either my lack of knowledge or some form of compatibility issue between the D300 and CS3!!
    When importing I am loosing all the RAW Picture Control settings!! - e.g. If I shoot using Picture Control "Monochrome" CS3 rips out all of the settings and returns the RAW image back to the default camera settings!! It doesn't seem to be the D300 as Picture Control settings are retained when viewing the RAW images on the camera's screen.
    Camera: D300/firmware - default install
    Computer: MacBook Pro Intel 2.4Ghz/2Gb RAM | Operating System: OS X 10.5.4 (9E17) | Software: Abobe CS3 with CameraRAW 4.4.1 plugin (also tried beta 4.5 but to no avail!!)

    I am trying to open a NEF file (RAW format) from my card with PhotoShop CS3 and it does not work. These photos were taken with a Nikon D300. A window appears and the message read as follows:
    "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document"
    Could someone help me?
    I have searched the online material and I have not found a solution as of yet.
    I have no issues opening JPEGs taken with a D300 and I can open NEF files that were taken with a Nikon D200...

  • Importing Screen Capture into CS3

    I use Jing to capture screen images.  When I take those images into Photoshop, the size is shown at around 2megs at 72ppi  and the.png image looks pristine and sharp.  When I import the screen captures into PPro they fall apart in the timeline.  Can this be corrected?  Thank you.

  • How do import an image into CS3 and resize it?

    Hi, let me say first I know very little of Illustrator C3.  I have a poster that was created by someone else.  I'm supposed to take that image and resize to fit on a pop up banner.  I created a new doc in Ill. with the correct dimensions and copied and pasted the image.  Now how to I get the original image with layers to conform to the new doc. sizing?  I need to take the image and enlarge it and make it fit within the confines of my new doc.  How do I do that without distorting the image.

    Shift, Ctrl and Alt modifier keys offer constraining options in all Adobe programs. Shift will retain proportions, Alt scale from the center etc. and when combined you can scale constrained from the center. anyway, the question is, what you are referring to by "image". Bitmaps as in photographs or other pixel images? Then AI is the wrong choice. You need to do such things in Photoshop. If its a PDF or another AI file, scaling should be no problem. you may just wish to group items before doing so to retain their relative placement within teh group and avoid unpleasant surprises when you only mass-select them.

  • Importing video files into Adobe Premiere Pro CS3

    I own a Sony Handycam DCR-SX63.  When I import the movies I have taken onto my PC (Vista) they are .MPG files.  When I import these files into Premiere Pro CS3 the video portion imports but the audio of that file does not.  I have read all I can find and nothing seems to answer my question directly.  I tried an encoder to see if maybe Premiere doesn't accept .MPG files.  I converted it to .AVI file and tried to import and that gave me audio with no video.  I tried opening the new project with a dozen different settings offered up by Premiere but every one I tried gave me the same outcome when I tried to import my video file.
    Please. please. please help.  I am pulling my hair out.

    I'm trying to import an avi file into PS CS3 using the 'import video frames into layers' tool, and I had 3ivx trial but it expired and now it leaves a watermark on all the layers. Anyone know of a free alternative?

  • Cannot import mpg files into Premier Pro CS3

    I've read the wiki and looked through the FAQs and did not find this issue, so here goes.
    The file began life as an mp4 from a GoPro HD camera.  It plays correctly in Apple's software, but will not import into Premier.  Found the KB on
    Error message "Unsupported format or damaged file" when you import  MP4 clips into Premiere Pro CS3 and changed the extension to MPG.  This got me audio, but no video.  The MPG plays correctly (audio and video) in Windows Media Player as well as in Bridge CS4.
    Windows Vista 64-bit, 8 Gig RAM, Intel Q9300 Quad Core Processor, GeForce 9600 GT video card w/1Gig DDR3 RAM.
    Any ideas?

    PrPro is pretty well centered on pro formats. Many find that other NLE's, designed for consumer cameras and formats, work better and some natively. It's a tough call. I love the interface and workflow of PrPro, and use it 99% of the time. However, with heavily-compressed, delivery-only formats/CODEC's, some other NLE's work better - to start. I use those as converters, or do batch conversions with DigitalMedia converter, but it's shareware, and not freeware.
    Some users want PrPro to embrace every possible CODEC and variation on each, with hourly updates, as mfgrs make changes, and others want it to only perform 100% with pro-formats and leave the consumer stuff totally alone - there is PrElements for that. Me? I just roll with the punches, and convert from X to Y, and edit in my chosen NLE. Kinda' the "Jimmy Buffett" of video editing.

    When I import frames from a .mov file into CS3 they turn up black. I did not have this issue with ImageReady. Anyone know what I am doing wrong? Do I need to convert the .mov file to something else?

  • InDesign CS3 Scripting XML Import Multiple Images into same Text Frame

    I am having trouble importing multiple images into the same Text Frame using XML import. I imported 5 images into the text frame. However, all 5 images are laying on top of one another. Does anyone know if there is a way to have all images laying out like how Microsoft Word handles inline images, i.e., laying out next image to the right of previsous image in the same line and if there is not enough space left in the line, then wrap to next line. Thanks in advance. I understand I could use JavaScript to do post import processing, e.g, calculate the image size and place each images accordingly. But I am trying to see whether there is a way to do this without scripts.

    You can apply an object style to all anchored images by script. A text frame containing main flow should be selected.

    Step 1
    Create place holders for a single "Book" element and format it as needed -- apply an object style to the cover.

    Import the xml file -- the placeholders are replaced with data from the 1st xml element

    Drag & drop the element containing all "Books" elements into the main flow -- all elements are placed and formatted the same way as in step 1.
    Finally, add a new page, click the overset text icon and autoflow text to add pages so that to fit all the text.

  • Colour changes when importing Illustrator graphics into Flash CS3

    Hi there!
    I'm creating a Flash site, and all the graphics are imported
    from Illustrator.
    Also, in the Illustrator file, there are some Phtoshop
    graphics with shadow effects on it.
    The problem is, that when I import the .ai into Flash, a
    pretty strong colour change occurs: everything becomes lighter. And
    the shadow, wich is black in Photoshop, turns white in Flash!
    Is there a way to solve this problem? I searched the net, and
    some people say it's an OSX thing, wich is pretty strange, because
    Mac is an obvious choice for loads of designers.

    However, the weird thing is, when I pick one of the photoshop
    graphics, asign the profile to it, and import it into Flash, the
    colors look fairly good. BUT when I import the complete Illustrator
    file with alle the graphics in it, I still get the color shift. I
    can now put all the graphics in the flash file, one at a time, but
    I think thats not the most easy way to do it..

  • Can no longer import Word files into InDesign

    Hello,
    For many months I have been importing Word files into InDesign CS3 (Mac OSX 10.4.11) with no trouble, but I started having a problem yesterday.
    When importing a 17-page Word file with 16 footnotes, I got none of the text and only the footnote numbers. This is what I get in InDesign:

    These are the things I've tried already: restarting, deleting preferences, changing the import options, using CS2, importing someone else's Word file, importing a Word file that I imported successfully a couple of months ago. None of this works.
    It has been suggested that I save the Word file as rtf, but since I have 200 files to import and I'm using Word's character styles for italics, bold, small caps, etc., I'd rather try to fix this problem.

    I am using indesign CS2 and i'm trying to import a Word document into a new chapter for a book i'm laying out. it's about 30 pages, but there are at least 80 foot notes. i'm able to get about 1/2 of the document with the footnotes to flow correctly, then EVERYTHING disappears. the only way i've been able to get the remaining text to appear is by adding characters to the text. i'll hit "vvvvvvvvvvvv" a bunch of times and "magically" a little chunk of text and it's footnotes appears. then the ole disappearing act happens. so i do it again. i'm able to get all the text to appear finally, but when i delete the "vvvvvvvvvv" from the places i inserted them, the text disappears again. i have no idea why this is happening or how to fix it. any ideas?

  • Batch Import .XMP info into DNG Files

    I have a few thousand Canon 5D RAW files that have accompanying XMP files created by PS CS2 containing of a lot of metadata that I manually typed in for each photo.
    Because of some better ICC profile features in DXO Optics Pro 4.x, I want to batch process my Canon 5D raw files (with XMP EXIF data) by DXO Pro into DNG. My problem is how to batch incorporate the XMP data into the resulting DNG file. It doesn't appear
    I found a way I can manually import the data in CS3 for a single photo. However, that's no good for 3000 photos.
    Does anyone have a simple batch method that will do what I want? The XMP files are all named the same as the RAW files, so matching up the files is a piece of cake.
    Could I create an action that would somehow open the new DXO generated DNG file, and import the XMP file using some type of filename matching process?

    Why not simply run the DNG Converter on that folder? It will merge the XMP sidecars into the resultant DNG files.
