Inactive connections in database
Hi,
I'm using Oracle 10 with my Weblogic 8.1. I'm having cluster environment with 3 managed servers. Each is having initial capacity of 30 connections in connection pool. Now when I see my oracle database, its showing 90 INACTIVE connections. What does that mean? Is it related to Weblogic? If yes, how?

Well, connection pool are well describe at some good places, I will try. The WLS admin setup a connection pool which consist in a number of connection on a database with the same loginname/password.
Those connections are opened on WLS startup and are ready for application use. When an application needs a connection, it asks for one, and WLS gives a already opened one. Doing so, you don't have to connect to the database each time, as the connection already exists.
When the application is done with the connection, it releases it and this connections returns in pool.

The following code closes the connection to the BC4J

The pooling parameters are the same as the default ones in Jdevelopper.
We noted that certain connections created by the BC4J in the database were
turned "inactive" and were never re-used.
After a certain time, "inactive" connections multiply and the database is
completely saturated.
The BC4J do not re-use the "inactive" connections but try to create new ones.
The "inactive" connections that are never re-used are never killed.
Our only solution is to reboot the database server or the application OC4J
instance to suppress the "inactive" connections.
We tried to configure the BC4J pool in Jdeveloper, but it doesn't work in 9IAS.
Could you please clarify what the problem is? Looking forward to receiving your

UDConnect - Could not connect to database. Connection is inactive
Dear SDN,
We have a Netwever BI 7.0 server and trying to connct the Nonsap Sybase database through Udconnect .
we have downlod the EBF13490.tgz file form sybase site which contanse the jconnect5.5 drivers for all hardware and OS platforms.
We extract the file and save the jconn2.jar file in out solaris BI 7.0 server
follwoing settings are configured .
1.JCO_RFC_PROVIDER -
the settings in visual adminstrator Myserverhostname_PORTAL_BD1 is alreday found and RFC from sm59 is also tested properly.
2. JDBC Connector - create sybase driver and upload the jconn2.jar
3. connector container - create resource adapter as library:sybase
4. Maintan the settings of nonsap sybase server as below

and usrname , password after that restart the java stack.

Thanks !I found the answer for this issue, because "Inactive timeout connection" of "advanced" in "data sources" of welogic admin console set to 300 seconds, once we changed to "zero". This msg is gone.

Lot inactive sessions are in database, Before we bounce database ----> max process got reached, For that we have changed max process and bounced the database but i can see still 75 inactive sessions in database,

Actually PMON will clears all inactive sessions from database.
But i can see there are sessions like more then 3,4 days old.
Why PMON is not clearing them. ?

But for idle sessions that you want cleared immediately you can use
ALTER SYSTEM DISCONNECT SESSION . . . IMMEDIATENOTE - this acts differently than the 'KILL SESSION' syntax typically used.

I am using Oracle, java, jsp, JNDI datasource look up for this web application. The application makes numerous connections with database, executes queries, load the results into arraylists or vectors and connections get closed as soon as the resultset is loaded into a collection object.
when I was load testing, I found out several inactive connections in the database side. This is so puzzling. I have been struggling for more than I should.
these are my datasource settings in my server.xml file:

It may be due to the connection pooling used.
A "closed" (to application context) connection is
returned to the pool for later reused, (in database
context, these connection is still open).

Anybody has any problems with this and has anybody found solutions?
I am setting up the maxActive datasource parameter value as 20 and maxIdle parameter 20. but these parameters are getting completely ignored. when I load tested, there are 55 active and inactive connections together even after each time the connection, statement and resultset are closed.
I think It is to do with tomcat. When I restart tomcat, all the connections disappear.

Could anyone know , how to find the number of users connected to database without connecting with sql*plus
is there any command to find it?
example we have 10 databases in one server, how to find the number of users connected to particular database without connecting to database(v$session)?

Managed Server can not connect to Database
I have a WebLogic cluster with three managed Server on 3 different machines.
ManagedServer_1, ManagedServer_2, ManagedServer_3 (on Machine 3)
Firstly, everything is ok. But when we changed some configuration on Firewall and make the WebLogic cluster could not connect to database. 3 servers change status from Running to Warning. Then, we undo all the changes to the Firewall configuration. 3 Servers could connect to Database again but still in warning state.
It is strange that when I tried to restart ManagedServer_3. That server could not be up normally. It went to Admin state and all the datasources and connection pool could not be created. I tried to restart the machine 3 and start the server but it still failed to make server running normally.
( I made the test connecting to Database from Machine 3, everything is okie, I can got data from database, port 1521 opened )
Has anyone got the same problem and how to fix it? Is that the problem with the admin server?JDBC DataSources/Connection pools are all at Domain Level. All we do is just target the datasources to AdminServer and Entire cluster (this will take care of all managed servers in the cluster). From Weblogic Console, TEST the data sources for any firewall issues. If this works from console, check from where you are accessing the Console like within the Firewall, that can access the database server. Even though the actual application is deployed only on cluster, still I would recommend targetting the datasources to both AdminServer and Cluster.

i am going to ask not related this question which already you answered i am going to ask you about that how to connect forms6i and Developer 10g with OracleAS.
i have installed and working Developer Suite 10g Ver. 10.1.2 and also Form Builder 6i. On my other machine i installed and working Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 and also on the database machine i installed Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Application Server Control 10.1.2.0.2.
my database conectivity with Developer suite Forms and Reports and also Form6i and Reports6i are working fine. no problem.
now the 1 question of mine is that when i try to run form6i through run from web i got this error. FRM-99999: error 18121 occured see the release not.
this and the main question of mine is this that how can i control my OracleAS 10g with forms because basically the functionality of OracleAS is Mid-Tier but i am not utilizing the Mid-tier i am using here Two-tier Envrionment even i installed 3-Tier Environment so tell me how i utilize it with 3-Tier..

MySQL Database Connection (two databases at the same time)
I have never had to open more than one MySQL database from within the same website before, but I do now. The website I have is designed where all the content comes from within the main database. I am building an Inventory system that I want within it's own database, in the event I would ever need to move the application to another server or something, I don't want this data residing in the main database.
Currently, I open the database connection from within a file called "common.php" that resides in a directory called "lib" that can be accessed from the root directory. Below is the proposed code that would be placed within the "common.php" file:

From within any page of the website, I want to access both connections by placing an include at the top of each page:

Currently, when I run the code above, any page within the website (the home page) provides error messages with regards to database connectivity (the pages are looking for there content from within the second database. It's as if the second database is the only database seen by the website.
I need help figuring out how I can have two MySQL databases open at the same time (the second database will only be open for short periods of time and then closed). But the main database is always open.Create one project using one copy of the exact tables.
create 2 different sessions.xml files each pointing to the same project. Set the login information in the sessions.xml files.
That should work fine.
