Inbox full on Sent Mail (gmail)

After updating to OSX 10.5.6, and getting over the initial problem of having no visible inbox, i got things straightened out. Until I decided to sync my gmail account into the Mail app.
After I finished setting up my account preferences, it began to sync all my gmail mail. However, i realized that it was bringing all my sent mail from my gmail account as new mail in my inbox.
anyone ever seen this happen?

The problem is because of Gmail's threading setup. What I did is go to Mail -> Preferences -> Rules and create one that moves all mail from yourself into the sent box. Should clean everything up. In addition you can search for all mail from yourself (make sure its just the ones from you) and drag those into your sent folder as well.

  • Mail not being able to read inbox/sent mail??

    Hey guys,
I have a system that is running OS X 10.3.9 with Mail: 1.3.11 and it seems to constantly have issues reading the inbox and sent mail folders.
When I launch mail, it shows that I have messages in my inbox and my sent mail but when I go to click on the headers, nothing shows up in the preview screen. Rebuilding my mailboxes and also trying to re-import them into a different box does not help. When I try importing them, the file is not recognizable by the mail importer.
When I restore these mailboxes from back up, mail is able to read them for a few minutes, then it goes right back to the same issue.
Has anyone encountered this and know how to address it or can even tell me what it is?

    Hello,
I've same problem on Mac OS 10.2 system. Only in sent mail box.
Sent mail box appear empty but state bar says 782 messages.
Clicking on a ghost message show selection bar. Double click on subject and subject of message appears, same operation on date, sender...
    Inbox, junk mail work fine.
Other problem : Mail always crash down when I quit application (Application does not respond).
Sure I've repaired files permission, delete preference file, rebuild mail boxes but problem still here.
    Someone can help me ?

  • Problem with AOL mail being recognized in sent mail using Apple Mail

    Hi!
In Apple Mail, when I click on the Sent Mail icon, I see the two accounts that I use (one is a POP-gmail, and one is an IMAP-berkeley.edu), but not AOL mail. Its sent files go into this folder that is not included.
Also, AOL mail and calmail (the berkeley.edu mail) have these two icons under the inbox and the sent mail that are black circles with an @ sign in the middle, when clicked on they have several folders about contacts, sent mail... but it is very annoying to have them.
I would like for all sent mail to be included in the sent mail tab, and for these two @ sign tabs to be removed.
Thank you so much for the help!

    also...
is there a way to constantly synchronize my gmail account to the gmail.com inbox... what i mean is: whenever I read a message sent to the gmail inbox on Apple Mail and delete that message, then when I sign on gmail.com the message is no longer there
This somehow happens with the calmail server, when I delete a message using Apple Mail the calmail message is gone when I log onto that website and check the inbox
Thanks so much for all of your help!

  • Only inbox, where is sent and trash?

I recently got an iOS4 and unlike my old 3GS, when I go to mail there is only the inbox and no sent mail or trash. If I send an email from my iPhone I can't see it and if I save a draft I can't find it. There is the option to move mail from my inbox into either sent or trash but I can't find where they went. Anyone else have this problem?

If you launch the Mail app and hit the back button until you are at the Mailboxes screen, you should see your mail account listed in both the Inboxes and Accounts sections. If you click on the mail account in the Accounts section you should see the Trash and Sent folders in addition to the Inbox. (If you click on your mail account in the Inboxes section, then only the Inbox will be visible.)

  • Mail & Exchange (imap) & Blackberry Server, sent mail not visisble on mobile

I have setup my email account using mail and a Microsoft Exchange server 2000.
I use imap to access the Mailboxes (inbox, trash, drafts, sent mail is stored on the server)
On the Exchange server a BES is running and synchronises my Mail to my mobile Device.
Now, when I write a Mail using outlook on my PC, every Mail I sent, also appears on the mobile device - as expected.
The same is not true when I write a Mail using Apple Mail.
Even, if The mail is appearing in the send items folder on the Exchange Server, for some reason the BES server does not pick it up.
Does anyone know a tweak for mail to make this work ?

Something is wrong with the Mail app the last week and half or so.  Messages are disappearing, not getting synched, don't stay in the saved folders they are moved to, jump back at later dates (even days later) to the original inboxes, etc.  Very unstable and unreliable.  It was working better for a few months before this latest update, but is an absolutely messy nightmare right now. Changes made in Apple Mail are not getting reflected in other mail apps or on the external mail servers in a reliable, usefull manner.  Some do, some don't.   Use another mail app until Apple gets this fixed.

  • Mutt/Offlineimap Sent mail is showing up in Gmail Inbox

    Hi,
I am just starting my journey with mutt and quite like the interface thus far but I am having trouble with sent emails showing up in my Gmail inbox.  It is a little annoying to always have my sent emails appear as unread in my inbox.  In my search for a solution I have found that this behavior sometimes occurs if you have Gmail filters that are set to never send to spam, I checked and do not have any such filters.  This could also happen if I had $record set, but I have specifically unset record.  My muttrc and offlineimaprc are as follows (I used several tutorial sites to help create these) (I have hashed out some personal details):

I use msmtp to send the emails (and they do send) but as far as I know that program should have nothing to do with my folder labeling.
What happens exactly:  When in mutt, I press 'm' and compose an email and send with 'y'.  Oddly enough, the email appears in my gmail inbox (the webmail) even before I sync mutt with offlineimap (I don't automatically sync).  Once I sync, I see the email in both my sent mail and inbox.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated

  • GMail: Sent mail comes in the inbox?

If I send an email from my Gmail account on my iPhone, the sent mail will appear in my inbox as well as the sent items box on the phone.
If I look at my gmail account on my computer via my browser the sent mail is correctly sitting in my sent folder and does not appear in my inbox.
This seems like a bug in iPhone. Mail I send from the phone should only appear in sent items box and not in my phone inbox.
BTW, I do not have the option to CC myself turned on in the iPhone settings.

    web interface...
I have hostrocket as my hosting for my domain....
I can use outlook with IMAP, and get all folders from the mail server with no problems... If I use the webmail interface to access my email account, and I send an email, it will always appear in the inbox as well... and when I go in with outlook, there is that send email still, so I move that email to my sent folder so I have a record of it being sent....
So, I guess the iPhone interface is doing the same thing... send an email from it, and you get a record of the email in the inbox so you can move it to the sent folder.
My IMAP connection on my iPhone will not bring down the sent, deleted, and drafts folders to the iPhone. My Outlook has all these folders.

  • How to download the "Sent Mail" folder from Gmail to Mail 4.1?

Since updating to Snow Leopard I no longer have any mail in my Sent Mail folder
when using IMAP in Mail 4.1. In fact just a few (258) of all my sent messages (3732)
    were properly downloaded.
I noticed that after configuring my Gmail to work with Mail/IMAP some new folders were
created. They are: [Gmail]/Sent Mail/Sent, [Imap]/Drafts, Sent messages, and Deleted Messages. Apart
from those, my Gmail account has always had standard folders such as Inbox, Sent Mail (the majority of my sent messages are in here), Drafts, Spam, and Trash. Apparently Mail is only downloading the messages from the new "Sent messages" folder and not the standard "Sent Mail", wherein all my sent messages actually are.
Another issue it that the spinning gear next to the Gmail Inbox in Mail 4.1 keeps spinning incessantly as if checking for new messages all the time even though it is set to check for new messages every 5 minutes and all messages has been downloaded. I have another IMAP account for my university's email which is working perfectly (neither problems with Sent Mail folder nor spinning gear). I will post the spinning gear problem in a separate question.
In my old MacBook I didn't have this problem when using Gmail with POP. This is the first time I'm using IMAP.
Is anybody having the same problems?
I appreciate your help in advance.

you can change Your Sent mailbox to "Sent Mail". select Sent Mail mailbox, go to mailbox menu->use this mailbox for->sent.

  • Mail downloading gmail sent mail?

This could be a gmail thing and not a .mac but I can't find a setting in gmail that seems to account for this action.
I check my gmail with Mail and only occasionally use it to send stuff but when I do, at the end of the day, Mail seems to download a CC of the mail that I've sent (which I've not actually CCd or BCCd to myself). Does anyone know if this is a mac preference that I cant turn off somewhere?

Not sure what you mean. If those messages are being sent using Gmail’s webmail interface (which you haven’t made clear), this is normal Gmail behavior and Mail has no bearing on it.
Gmail POP access doesn’t work like a normal POP mail server would. Here are some of its idiosyncrasies (#4 could be what you’re observing):
    1. Messages downloaded by any conventional POP mail client are marked as downloaded at the server (but not as read on the web), and no longer available to either the same or any other POP mail client.
    2. To make already downloaded messages available for POP access again, you must go to Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP page, select Enable POP for all mail, and click Save Changes, which causes everything (and I mean everything) still on the server to be downloaded again.
    3. The Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings have absolutely no effect on the messages stored on Gmail’s server. Gmail ignores any requests to delete messages from the server made by a POP client. What happens to the messages on the server after a POP client has downloaded them is determined by Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP > When messages are accessed with POP setting alone. In the case of Gmail (and only in that case), I recommend turning OFF Remove copy from server in Mail, so that Mail doesn’t even try to remove any messages from the server, regardless of whether you do actually want already downloaded messages to be removed from the server after some time or not.
    4. Messages sent using the web interface will be downloaded by your POP mail client as if they were received messages. Although this may seem weird, it's good because it allows archiving all messages locally in Mail, regardless of how they were sent — as long as you don't access the same Gmail account with more than one POP mail client, that is. You can set up a rule in Mail to automatically route those messages to the appropriate Sent mailbox (or to any other mailbox for that matter) if that's what you want.
    5. Messages sent using a POP/SMTP mail client such as Mail are also treated as if they were incoming messages for POP purposes, just as in #4. What prevents them from being downloaded is that Gmail marks them as already downloaded immediately. Since they’re on the server nonetheless, already sent messages would be downloaded together with all the other messages on the server if proceeding as described in #2.
    6. A particular case of #5 are messages sent to yourself. Instead of putting a copy of the sent message in the server’s Inbox and making it available for download, both the sent and the “received” message on the server are actually one and the same, and hence, cannot be downloaded via POP for the reason explained in #5.
    7. Gmail allows POP accounts to be set up in a special way that avoids some of these issues while introducing others. If you only need POP access to the last 30 days of mail, you may configure Mail in “recent mode”, as described in Using POP on multiple clients or mobile devices. Configuring the account this way would allow Mail to download messages marked by Gmail as already downloaded (and download messages sent to yourself in particular), but it would also cause all sent messages (not just messages sent to yourself or through webmail) to be downloaded as if they were received messages.

  • Mail downloaded from POP account in Gmail appears in Sent mail

I have configured Gmail to download mail from two other POP accounts. I use Mail.app in OS X with IMAP to access my Gmail. I've noticed that when I receive a message from one of my POP accounts, it appears in my inbox but also as an unread message in my Sent mail folder. Why? Is there anything I can do to change this behavior?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. The Gmail account is set-up as IMAP. But it does download POP email from other accounts. It's a nice feature and one of the main reasons I just use Gmail now for all email.
I know I could just ignore the issue, but it bothers me to have unread messages in the Sent mailbox. Clutters up the interface.

  • I don't want my sent mail to appear in the Inbox, but I can't find a way to set that.

I just switched to Thunderbird from Apple Mail because Gmail doesn't work with Mail under Yosemite. I am trying to set up Thunderbird, but can't find a way to not have the sent mail appear in the Inbox. Also, I used Mail before because it could handle Exchange accounts as well. Is there any way to access Exchange accounts in Thunderbird?
    Thanks!

  • Gmail, iPhone, Outlook..sent mail problem

    Dear Friends,
I was writing to see if anyone might be able to help me diagnose a problem I am having with gmail on the iphone. I have the iphone setup to read my gmail account and use outlook on the pc as my desktop mail reader. My outlook is setup so my multiple accounts all end up in my inbox.
When I send from my gmail account on the iphone outlook does not see the mail in outlook. This is a major issue for me since I deal with clients and need to have this information on my desktop to keep track of things, etc.
The thing I find most confusing is if I use the gmail web interface I can see the mail that was sent in the sent mail folder. The iphone can also see this, it is just that outlook can't.

    Barry Schwartz1,
Many, if not most, ISPs filter port 25 to prevent users from sending spam. Even though your Exchange's SMTP settings allow it to listen on port 25, you may not be able to send via port 25. Many server admins, configure their server to listen on another port, most often 587 or 465 in addition to requiring authentication as anti-spam measures.
I know that AT&T's EDGE network for example does filter Port 25. If you are using your iPhone on WiFi at home you may want to check with your home internet service provider (ISP) to see if they filter Port 25.
If the server admin is not willing to configure the server to listen on another port, they might be willing to allow you to use VPN so that when you send it will be via the VPN, and not using Port 25 through your ISP.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Checking Gmail - getting Sent Mail

Whenever I check my Gmail account with my iPhone, it not only downloads my new incoming mail, it also downloads my newly Sent mail. Why is this and how can I make it stop?

    Pselus,
When sending Gmail from iPhone, the sent message will show up as a new message in your iPhone Inbox as if you have cc'ed yourself. If you don't want this behavior, try turning "Use Recent Mode" off.
