.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.Apple Mail To Do/

Hello,
One morning Mail has created a directory on my IMAP box :
.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.Apple Mail To Do/
Quiet funny...
Does somebody know why and how I could remove it ?
I have tried to delete it with "delete mailbox" but it reappears.
Thank you !

Yes - it is a strange one. I was getting multiple mailboxes and constant Mail crashes when I had Safari 4 beta installed. If you are using Safari 4 beta then you need to uninstall it using the uninstaller in the original download package - it will reinstate Safari 3.
Here are some other things to try:
Firstly, 'Repair Permissions' using Disk Utility, and restart.
If Mail crashes upon opening, try holding down the shift-key when opening, then rebuild your mailbox - Menu/Mailbox/Rebuild.
Are you using Synchronization in System Preferences/MobileMe? If so, try turning it off. Also check that your computer appears under the 'Advanced...' button.
If all else fails, then move the 'Mail' folder in ~/Library/Mail to your Desktop (do NOT delete it at this stage). Also, move 'com.apple.mail.plist' from ~/Library/Preferences/ to your Desktop. You will need to setup your mailbox again when you open Mail - follow the default setup procedure and setup your mailbox as an IMAP account - it will synchronize/download the emails you have stored on the server if you have been saving your data there.
Test Mail and if it is OK, then you can import whatever data you have in the old Mail folder on your Desktop - Menu/File/Import Mailboxes/Mail for Mac OS X and navigate to the Mail folder on the Desktop, follow onscreen instructions.
Hope this helps.

  • Apple Mail not updating IMAP inbox

When new mail arrives in an IMAP inbox, Apple Mail will not show the new messages until several hours pass or Mail is quit and restarted. The new mail is visible via other IMAP clients (Thunderbird, Entourage, iPhone) but not in Apple Mail. This occurs once or twice a week with no obvious common trigger. It is happening on my personal computer and many of my client's systems. I've tried rebuilding Inboxes, re-syncing accounts, deleting envelope indexes, creating new mail accounts, new users, etc.... The problem will always return eventually and only quitting and restarting Mail will cause the IMAP INBOX to update.
Affected system: Apple Mail, Snow Leopard 10.6.3 although this has been occurring on multiple systems going back to 10.5 with multiple email providers.
I've searched and searched and just found numerous people with the same issue and no solutions. All of those threads were archived with replies no longer allowed, so I started yet another thread.

That is correct, but this IDLE to achieve push email might not be working well, at least with Mail. But post back if this does not correct the problem.

I have two systems that have the issue and both had the IDLE box checked. I unchecked them both and they ran all day today with no lapses in email. Looks promising but the issue has gone for days sometimes before it re-appears.
I will keep you posted. Hopeful.

  • Apple Mail Not Showing Inbox Unread Count on Dock after installing Mavericks

After installing Mavericks, my Apple Mail (connected to my work's Gmail account) stopped showing the Inbox's unread count on the dock. I switched it to "all mailboxes" to see if that would make a difference, and the dock shows 7 unread emails when there are actually none. When I switch it back to "Inbox" unread counts, it shows nothing. I've waited 15 minutes after receiving an email to see if it will show an unread message in the dock, but it does not. Does anyone have a fix for this?
    Thank you!

Quit your mail entirely, then in terminal do:
    mv ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope* ~/Desktop
This moves all your "Envelope Index*" files to your desktop.  An alternative is deleting the files, but this allows you to keep them as a temporary back-up (you can delete them at-will later).  Also, you can move the files from Finder instead of Terminal, if you prefer.
After the files have been moved, re-open Mail
This should re-load all your email messages, updating/restoring the count
While this works, it does not explain the reason the count goes missing, nor does it ensure that the count won't go missing again in the future, but at least it's a temporary workaround.

  • Apple Mail search not working for Inbox

In the last few weeks I've notice the Apple Mail (5.2) search feature has stopped working correctly.  It used to turn up all relevant results in a mail box, then lately it seems (based on the results) to go back just a few weeks and not the full year of mail that is in the mailbox.
Following the advise of a MacWorld article I removed these files from Mail's library folder… Envelope Index, Envelope Index-shm, and Envelope Index-wal, restarted Mail and followed the prompt to reindex.  Following that… Search works worse, I run tests to find a word in the body and get 0 results… and I know it's there.  As I type in the last letter of the word into the Seach lozenge  I get a list just below the lozenge ) of People and Subjects that contain the word but nada results for the word in the Body of the message.  These tests were run on the Inbox, other mailboxes (with List-serve Mail) seem to work ok… but the Inbox Search is what I really care about.
Any ideas about fixing this?  Thanks in advance,
    Paul

    This is very dissapointing.

  • How can I set up a rule to delete all messages older than 6 months left in Apple Mail's main inbox?

How can I set up a rule to delete all messages older than 6 months left in Apple Mail's main inbox?
I have created other rules to move some of my daily messages into specific folders and I don't wish to auto-delete those.
Just the general stuff that keeps piling up in my me.com main email box.  Mail such as FB announcements and other low priority stuff I want to look at before deleting but don't want to keep longer than a week or month.
    TIA

Thanks, but I am looking for a more automated solution than hand marking emails as junk. I might as well move them to the trash myself.
Again, these are emails I want to receive and quickly read, but not keep longer than a week or month or so. By setting a rule to toss any older than 30 days back then my Mail program (and thus my hard drive) won't be wasting so much space. For example, currently I have over 6000 read messages, with their attachments, in my main email box. I'd rather not have to physically attend to sorting the one I don't want out.
The one I do keep for other reasons get moved into other folders.
It seems this should be possible.

  • I'm missing mail in my Inbox from my .live account in Apple Mail. I'm using mbox with my hotmail account. If that made any sense?!

I'm all of a sudden missing old mail in my inbox labeled .live - I used mBox to set up my hotmail account with Apple Mail. It's not in the trash nor on my hotmail account online anymore. Hmmmm??? I already tried to rebuild and my mbox folder in the library seems fine. Anyone?? I only have about a month's worth of mail which made me think I had mistakenly selected some 'time frame' for keeping inbox messages but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

  • Gmail in Apple Mail. Messages to self don't go to inbox..

Hi. I have a gmail account that I access using Apple Mail. It is IMAP
I frequently CC or Blind CC myself on outgoing messages.
Most of the time the messages appear in my inbox when I check mail. Sometimes (1 out of 3) they do not appear in the inbox. They do appear in the Gmail>All mail folder and in Gmail on the web.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

The problem is that Gmail moves "deleted" messages to the All Mail category.   The trick to avoiding having 3 copies of a message in your client (Apple Mail, iPad, iPhone, etc) is to configure Gmail's IMAP settings.   Go to Settings-->Labels and look at the right side where it offeres a series of checkboxes labeled "Show in IMAP".   You can turn the various labels off or on to control which messages ("mailboxes") your IMAP client app will see.   At a minimum, you probably want to have just Inbox, Sent Mail, Drafts, and Trash.    Maybe Spam if you want to manage that on your cllient in addition to the Gmail web interface.   The key one to turn OFF is the "All Mail" label.
This is not a new "problem" in Lion... Gmail's IMAP has been this way all along.   But I do believe that Apple Mail in Lion auto-configures itself for Gmail so perhaps you're now seeing the problem for the first time.

  • Apple Mail not showing any emails in Inbox when using Gmail IMAP.

I am using Mail to check my Gmail which is set up in Google Apps. The problem is that it never seems to synchronize properly with Gmail. Right now, if I click on Inbox in Mail, it is empty. Not one mail. But if I search for something in the search bar, the mails in Inbox appear. This happens on two computers, an iMac and a Macbook Pro, both running Snow Leopard.
I am using about 1.7GB of space on Gmail, so I do have a lot of mail, but for some reason Apple Mail never seems catch up and just run smoothly. Other people on the same domain hosted by Google Apps, also using Apple Mail are fine. Please let me have any ideas.
Operating system: Apple OS X 10.6.1
Program and version you use to access Gmail: Apple Mail 4.1

Welcome to my confusing and problematic world. We currently have 20-odd users on the Google Apps domain. 3 of them are using Apple Mail to access their mail. 1 is having problems. The only thing different about this user is that we imported messages in from Outlook using the Google mail importer. This is the only thing I can think. The importer seemed to ignore certain folders, even if we retried, and it created folders as inbox/insurance_ etc. I changed all the folders to INBOX in caps, as that is what Mail preferred, and removed the trailing underscore.
This is the only thing different about this user.
On a web browser looking at Gmail, I have:
    Inbox
    Starred
    Sent Mail
    Drafts
    [Imap]Drafts
    Apple Mail To Do
    Deleted Items
    Deleted Messages
    Follow Up
    INBOX/folder1
    INBOX/folder2
    INBOX/folder2/folder1
    etc...
    INBOX/Folder113
    Junk E-mail
    Misc
    Priority
    Sent Messages
4 More (containing Chats, All Mail, Spam, Bin)
I did another "Account Info" and got this: http://gallery.me.com/rtaxerxes/100023/Screen%20shot%202009-11-04%20at%2010.19.5 9%20PM
You'll notice, now it does have an Inbox. But the folders it says are 0 messages and 0 KB do actually have stuff in them on the web browser.

  • Apple Mail Inbox - messages keep disappearing!

I've been searching and trying various tips from other similar discussions. Here's the deal...I switched from Entourage to Apple Mail about a year ago and imported all of my email folders and messages into Mail. Everything was setup via Gmail POP and I switched to IMAP a few months ago. Realizing that with IMAP I could now move all of my folders from "On My Mac" to "MyName" so that my folders and ALL emails would be visible in Gmail and on my iPhone, I made the move last week. Here's where the issues began.
Each time I moved a folder, everything EXCEPT notes in my Inbox would disappear until the folder was finished moving over. I got used to that and figured it was just Mail being lazy/tired/what have you. I finished moving all of my folders and emails around on Thursday and have STILL been having the Inbox issue. I've tried rebuilding my Inbox, but it only ever seems to work if I select all Mailboxes (Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash & Junk) and even then it only works sometimes. I can still see my inbox messages in Gmail and my iPhone, so thankfully they aren't lost.
I have tried repairing permissions, moving library/cache/mail and library/mail/envelope index to my desktop and rebooting. But what do I do after that? I have a feeling it may also be tied to my rules and have deleted both rules plists. Am I supposed to move the folder and files from desktop back to library after rebooting or do I have to reset my entire mail and my 100s of thousands of message??

Have you tried changing the location of the mail server into your iPhone using your Yahoo ! account?

Thank you TomJones75.  When I posted this initially, I was running iOS 6.1.3 and not iOS 7.  I don't think editing the order of the inboxes was an option back on iOS 6.1.3.  With your tip, I was able to re-order my inboxes but it still defaults to the Exchange account when opened.
I.e. first account listed under mailboxes is now an Outlook account and the 2nd is an Exhannge account. Mail still defaults to the Exhange account even though the Outlook is my default email address for the iPhone.
    Good tip though!  Thanks!

  • Apple Mail- Mail not going into Inbox

I've been having this issue more and more recently.
Seems when Apple Mail checks for new mail (Mail provider is Google), it does show up in the All Mail folder that Google provides, but the new messages are not showing up in the Apple Mail inbox.
When I check this in the Google mail web client, mail appears as normal.
I'm missing messages, so this is something I'd like to figure out what's going on.
    Thanks for any help.

The problem is Google is delivering the mail correctly, Apple Mail isn't putting it in the Inbox. This is a new problem, which started in the last few days. I haven't made any changes to my email settings so unless Google did something, which is entirely likely, this behavior is not right.
Appreciate the insight, but that previous thread didn't really apply to this problem.

  • Where are Inbox emails stored in Apple Mail?

I accidentally erased all the emails in my inbox in Apple Mail.  However, a week before I did this, I backed up my hard drive (cloned it w/ Super Duper) to an external hard drive (called BackUp).  When I boot up in BackUp, I can find my older 'inbox' emails in Mail.  They are intact on this second HD.
I have not been able to import them using the Mail import function - mostly because I cannot find the Inbox folder (see below).  I tried booting up in Backup, and using this path I got down to the folder where I thought the emails were stored:  Library/Mail/POP-(my em address)/Inbox/Messages.  I then copied the Messages folder, mailed it to myself and booted up on the internal hard drive.  After retrieving the Messages folder from my email (which I thought contained the Inbox messages) I swapped it for the Messages folder on the internal hard drive.  This did not change a thing.
So where are the Inbox messages stored?  Or, is there an easier way to import my inbox emails from the BackUp hard drive?
Of course, I can simply forward each message via email from the BackUp drive and retrieve them in the internal drive, but then I lose subjects and the sender's name at the top of the email.
I'm using OS 10.6.8 on an intel iMac.

Thanks for your reply.  You suggested some other avenues for me to pursue - namely, treat the emails as files....
Since the BackUp hard drive is bootable, if I have my iMac running on its internal HD, I cannot drag anything from the BackUp HD to the internal hard drive.  I tried this: - while on the internal HD, i clicked on the mounted icon for BackUp, went to applications, clicked on mail, and Mail opened - but the Inbox that I saw was the relatively empty inbox that is on the internal drive.  True, I did get a second Mail icon on the Dock with its light illuminated, but I cannot open the Mail program with the BackUp Hard Drive files.
I did try booting up to BackUp, I located the files in the Inbox folder that correspond to the emails in the Inbox, copied them to a new email and sent the .emlx files to myself.  Logged back onto the internal drive, opened the email to myself, dragged the attachments (all those .emlx files) to the Inbox messages folder, and closed everything and reopened Mail.  None of the emails that I copied showed up in the inbox - yet if i go to the Inbox messages folder, find the appropriate file and click on it, up comes the email that I want to appear in Mail's Inbox.

  • Apple Mail not syncing Inbox Status (Read/ Unread)

This is Ramya from Zoho Mail Technical Support team.
When a Zoho Mail account is configured as IMAP in Apple Mail client in Mac Mail clients, the emails are synced fine in all folders except Inbox.
When the emails in Inbox are marked as Read/ Unread in other devices, the emails are not marked as Read/ Unread in the Mac Mail client. The new emails that arrive in Inbox are getting retrieved in the mail client, but only the status of the emails in Inbox remain unchanged.
After analyzing the logs in detail, we see that Apple Mail is not issuing the IMAP STATUS command for Inbox folder alone.
To check if there is any issue, we tried configuring Yahoo, Dovecot email accounts in Mac Mail client and the result was the same for Yahoo and Dovecot accounts also.
Interestingly, when we configure a Gmail account as IMAP, Apple Mail issues the IMAP STATUS command and syncs the status of the emails in the Inbox folder also.
We have a lot of users who use Zoho Mail via IMAP in Apple Mail Client who face this issue and have raised it to us in our community forums, emails. You can have a look at the https://forums.zoho.com/topic/zoho-and-apple-mail-via-imap to find the issues reported by the user regarding Apple Mail IMAP sync.

Very interesting but if you want Apple to see it please use this link:
