Incessant Audio Engine Overload Errors

I have a showstopping problem. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I cannot figure it out. I have a session set up in Logic (created from "Empty Project") with a single Audio track in it. The track is assigned to Input 1, which is being fed 1K tone at -6db. As soon as I click record enable on that track, Logic spits this out in Console:
2/27/09 7:58:30 PM Logic Pro 715 Warning Audio engine overloaded, resetting
2/27/09 7:58:30 PM Logic Pro 715 Warning Audio engine overloaded, resetting

2/27/09 7:58:41 PM Logic Pro 715 Warning Audio engine overloaded, resetting
2/27/09 7:58:42 PM Logic Pro 715 Warning Audio engine overloaded, resetting
and so on, ad infinitum. Each time one of these errors is generated, there is a brief drop out in the monitored (through Output 1&2) audio. If I actually try to record, Logic errors out quickly with:
System Overload.
The audio engine was not able to process all required data in time.
(-10011)
If anyone would be kind enough to point me at a solution, I would be very grateful. As I said, I'm sure I've just done something stupid...
Thanks in advance.

Figured it out. Pretty simple (and stupid of me). Turned out I had to raise the I/O Buffer setting from 128 to 256, and uncheck the I/O Safety Buffer. Problem solved. Got 16 tracks recording at once right now. Sorry to have wasted anyone's time...

  • Audio engine overloaded (this is not the usual problem!)

    Hi people
it's so frustrating I could cry. This is not the usual "I have 10 software synth running and get overload message".
Bottom line is: Even with a new project and logic stopped the CPU meters go up to 100%. It happens every 5 - 15 secs. What is strange that the system monitor does not show these spikes. I know it's just sampling but at least some of the spikes should be caught by the monitor. But it's steady at around 10-15% user and system. There is of course no other process eating cpu.
    Console looks like this:

I swear: yesterday everything was fine. Now it's not working anymore. I'm a developer with 10 years coding and debugging experience but I can't find the solution. I had this problem before. Everything was running smoothly for months and one bad day the problem started. I could not find a solution till I gave up and reinstalled the whole system which took me about 3 days to get everything in place again. Again everything fine for about 3 months.
Not matter what I try - deleting prefs. Starting logic as a new user. Reinitializing everything. Doesn't help. Is there anybody out there who had that problem too? I don't want to reinstall everything again.
    Cheers,
    Daniel

    I using a Line6 TonePort (I am a guitarist).
To make sure that its not the drive (though nothing changed there) I switched setting to internal audio - but that didn't change a thing.
And yes I tried the basics. I also disabled all plugins / AUs in the AU-Manager but I haven't tried to move them away. Give that a try this eve.
It's really strange. It doesn't matter wether it's a new empty project or any other that worked with no probs. Even if logic is stopped and there's no input monitoring: CPU load is flat and then every xyz secs boooom 100%. And its real because it actually interrupts the sound of my guitar or whatever.
I might have to dig deeper and see if I find any tracing tools which might provide more info..
    Aaaaargh!
The only thing I actually might tried the first time yesterday evening which I haven't done before is a roland vdrum via midi to ultrabeat but how could that mess things up? I dunno ...

  • Audio Core Overload ( Error -10011) and others.....

    Hello,
I was just wondering if anybody had a solution for the Audio Core Overload and the Disk too slow problem. I run a Dual 1.8 with 1 GB of RAM and Logic 7.1 ( recently upgraded form 7.01), Kontakt, DFH. I use the Moto 828 Firwire interface. I never had any problems before I upgraded. Only sometimes an audio overload, which actually never affected the performance. I never had / have any similar issues when I run DP 4.12
Anyways, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

The error also always occurs if the Mac is left unattended for few minutes (i.e. hard drives go inactive) then Logic is set to play again
well this is easy fixed. turn off spin down hard drive in power saver in system prefs. i have left mine on and expect to wake logic up by stopping and starting it. no big deal.
I believe Apple needs to address this immediately but they won't even respond to my email unless I buy a service contract!
and they won't respond because; a) they are an incredibly secretive organization, and b) because so often people are complaining about flaws in their programming when the answer lies with the user. your point here is a good example of that.
which ISN'T to say that they DON'T have issues to address. i just make it my business to be very cautious about what exactly they so that the primary content of this forum points them out. ranting or incorrect or unfair blame of apple and LP is only going to annoy the very talented and no doubt hard working people who have developed the programme. how would you feel if your work was being unfairly judged? quite a bit different than how you would feel if it was being fairly judged, i'll bet.
so the issue that tBird has missed, is an issue that has been confirmed by many many users is the one where there seems to be an overload, even when there is fairly light use of audio and plug-ins, and where the system performance indicators suggest that one processor is overloading and the other is not being used at all.
the problem is that while LP is idle, one of the plug-ins is taking up CPU cycles, but LP doesn't realize this. so on playback it adds the same processing onto the CPU (a kind of feeback problem i guess) and it ends up peaking before the processing planned for the other CPU is taken up.
the solution, or workaround, is to open your audio configuration and option-click (bypass) through the plug-ins one by one until the CPU meter (which even though logic is idle will probably be hovering around the 1/4 to 1/3 mark) drops down significantly.
once you have the right plug-in clicked, LP will run normally. then remove the plug-in and reinstate it in a different plug-in slot, or on a different instrument if it is one of the instrument plug-ins. the main culprit for this problem is space designer.
the instrument drop-outs are also a common problem. and i do agree apple need to addrress this problem urgently. considering the improvement LP 7.1 was from 7.0.1, i would eat my interface if they don't have a fix planned. roll on 7.2.

  • Audio Engine error message

    Hey all,
During play back and recording in a a lot of instances, Logic will stop and flash the "audio engine could not process data..." (The Audio Engine Overload Message). I've got 4.5GB of RAM, save my audio to a firewire external hard drive and I have the System Performance window open.
The Disc I/O has nothing in it and the Audio side has the bars lit up intermittent at times, but never going into deep yellow or red.
I have minimal efffects running and on tracks I DO have effects, I run them through a bus/send.
    Any ideas?

You at 96 or 88.2 Khz sampling rate by any chance and using something like BFD or other sampled library which is sampled at 44.1?
How many tracks are you playing back?
This is what used to cause my problems because Logic has to up sample those 44.1 libs and it's a lot of work for it if you have something like 8-12 tracks.
If that's not it, my next guess is that your external firewire drive is either too slow or not optimized. I optimize mine constantly using Disk Warrior.
    Hope this helps.
    R

  • I get an error message saying "system overload, the audio engine was not able to process all the required data in time (10011)

i get an error message saying "system overload, the audio engine was not able to process all the required data in time (10011)

The thing is, that error message has been appearing when playing/recording a track that was running perfectly a few minutes ago and nothing has changed!
That can mean, that your project is too ambitious for your Mac. Are you using many complicated automations on that track?
4GB memory is not much, when doing audio processing. GarageBand will need all memory it can get, or will be forced to continually swap pages to your disk, to free RAM, and that can cause this error.
When this error occurs, it is best to restart the computer. This will free your RAM. Close all other applications that are competing for memory, i.e. other multimedia applications, and Safari.
Also, make sure, that you have plenty of free disk space. Don't let the free disk space drop below 20G.
Where is your project located? On an external drive or your internal drive? If it is on an external drive, connect this drive directly, not daisy-chained, or move the project to your internal drive.
I got up to eat, came back and tried to continue but GarageBand shuts down and displays that message every time I try to run the song. I've also recently run songs with several more tracks than this one and they worked perfectly. Any tips?
Are your other projects, that worked perfectly, still working?

  • Optimizing tips - the usual issue: Core Audio Overload error

    Hi,
Having recently upgraded to Logic 8, my question remains the same: any additional tips (besides what has already been posted)on optimizing Logic 8 so that I stop getting the much dreaded Core Audio Overload error? I'm on a 17" Macbook pro bought last year, have replaced the original 2GB RAM with 4GB and use a Firewire 800 external harddrive. I feel a bit frustrated with Logic although it's an excellent software but what are the ideal specs for it? 100GB RAM and 50GHZ quadruple processors? Any tips on external hardware to help take the load off the laptop? Help please! My creative flow is taking a bad hit...

Thanks for the reply. I've only just started my first track in Logic 8 and so far it has 9 ultrabeat tracks, 1 EXS24 warm strings and 1 Sculpture with modeled Bass and some very basic "draft" vocals recorded in mono. I've got channel EQs on most of these and Multiband Compression on a couple of auxes. I'd hate to think what will happen when I want to add some effects...
It happens 90% of the times I audition the track and I don't know what to do when I record my vocals because I obviously won't have backing music as it keeps stopping midway, so in a way using the large buffer is good but not if you want to record vocals because of the latency, any suggestions on this?
I have about 40GB left on my laptop harddrive and about 225GB on my external.
I'm almost sure I've formatted my HD when I first got it but will try that option.
Question about firewire bus: are you saying that my mackie onyx satellite which is FW400 is on the same bus as my HD (FW800)? This seems odd because I had this issue even before I got the hard drive, in fact, I got this hard drive to try and stop these annoying messages as I figured my system wasn't powerful enough for Logic.
    Thanks

  • Logic giving me System Overload-error in a specific project

Hi everyone. I've got a huge problem on my hands. I have a 25-audiotrack project that I'm mixing for someone else. The audiofiles are .wav, all stereo, 16 bit 44.1kHz if I'm not mistaken. I've set them up on 25 audiotracks in Logic. I haven't even got to the point of putting on effects or anything, so it's just clean tracks with no effects and running no Buses either.
However upon playback, I constantly get this error:
    System Overload.
The audio engine was not able to process all required data in time. (-10011)
Now, I'm running OSX 10.4.7 and Logic 7.0.1 on a dual G5 1.8gHz with 1.25GB RAM. My soundcard is called ESI Juli@ (it's not exactly hi-end but it works). I have a 80ish GB harddrive 7200rpm with 8.5gb free space.
I'm quite a newbie, so I'm thinking it's my audio settings that's the problem. I've tried switching them around a lot but no help. I/O Buffer Size is set to 1024 (highest number available), Max number of audio tracks is set to 86 (plenty atm), and I've checked "Universal Track Mode" and "Larger Disk Buffer". My Process Buffer Range is set to Large. But nothing works...
Anyone got any pointers? I'm thinking I SHOULD be able to handle 25 tracks of audio + more without problems. Thanks for any help you might be able to give!

    well,
    25 stereo is a 50 mono tracks
Its may be hdd speed problem
First chek your OSX System preference
    Go to Energy Saver section
There must be an option: Put the Hard Discs to sleep when possible
If it cheked - unchek it
    I have a 80ish GB harddrive 7200rpm with 8.5gb free space
Try to empty your HDD on 50%,because when HDD is full on 90%(like in your case)data transfer speed go down up to 3time
Hope this will solve your problem

  • Is there anyone out there that NEVER gets system overload errors?

If so, what hardware do you have. I'm thinking of upgrading to a new iMac so I can record in peace (no overload errors). Can you please share your GOOD experiences. Is there hope?
    Thanks

What format(s) do you work in?  What length of project?  Do you output to AC3?  I have no problems with AME for short projects or to output the same size/format -- for instance, I can usually output full HD for Blu-Ray but experience lots of crashes if scaling down to SD for DVD.  The crashes also occur above certain lengths, usually 20 min +.  With audio, I can output 5.1 uncompressed WAV in the same format (for instance, 16 bit) but if I try to output 24 bit (which AME is supposed to be able to do) I get "Encoding Failed - Unknown error."  In fact the error log is ALL that very helpful message, always when transcoding to another format/bit depth/size.  When outputting 5.1 to AC3, AME freezes up and fails at around 20 minutes.
Our systems are very silimar -- the current system is i7 proc with 6gb ddr3 ram on a gygabite GA-EX58-UD3R.
A have not had any huge issues really with AME for short videos or output to FLV for web.
But the workflow I use is something that CS4 is SUPPOSED to be able to do.  And the very unusual issue is that I have seen posts about the same type of errors (with ImportProcessServer etc) on Macs as well.

How can I resolve this problem? The audio engine was not able to process all required data in time. (-10011)

    Could you do this?
    Go to Finder
    Go to Applications
    Go to Utilities folder
    Launch Activity Monitor app
go to its Memory tab on top
tell us what you see at the very bottom?
Here is a sample of mine.
I bet your page/swap amount will be huge.
If there is not enough RAM, OS X temporarily stores RAM data on the harddrive and tries to retrieve it back into RAM when needed, unfortunately that is so slow that GB throws an error as it cannot play it all in real time.

  • Fewer System OverLoad Errors

By raising the Max. Numbers of Audio Tracks to 255 in my CoreAudio Driver Preference, LP7 is running smoother with Less OverLoad Errors at I/O Buffer Size 256>1024.
Try it Out and Let see if your system improve.

  • Apple's / LPX Audio engine *****!

As much as i LOVE LPX as it enables me to achieve the creative ideas i have in my head some things really suck, especially the audio engine. These are the things that frustrate me the most:
    - Overload / disk too slow - The volume jumps up suddenly, causing your ear drums to burst or speakers to blow. We need overload protection!
    - No ability to arm a track without stopping the audio in the rest of the session for a couple of seconds. Should happen instantly and without and audio dropout.
    • Muting/un-muting a region takes a few seconds to update, we need this instantly.
Im going to email apple too but just wanted to see if anyone had anything to add?
    Thanks

    Hi, everyone.
Alesis is VERY quick to point the finger at Apple for all their woes, but after my last experience, I'm thinking this is Alesis' problem.
At one time I was running my Alesis MultiMix8 FireWire and getting constant kernel panics while working on audio and video deadlines. As this was the famed 8-core (rolling off the assembly lines in May and all that) I was banging my head against the wall. It finally came down to me bringing in all of my office into Apple's Genius Bar at Tysons Corner, VA and trying to duplicate the occurrence.
The culprit was the Alesis driver.
When I upgraded to Leopard and the new Alesis FireWire driver, I have encountered no KPs or odd audio issues. Confident, I decided to try out the Alesis iMultiMix8 USB for the Second Edition of Podcasting for Dummies. I got a high-pitched whine/static when I tried working with the audio mixing between iPod and mixer. I returned the mixer and exchanged it for another one. Same problem. I then went and tested the iMultiMix on my PowerBook G4 running 10.4.11. Problem still existed. I wrote to Alesis and told them about the iMultiMix, asking them if this was a common issue.
    No response.
While Leopard has solved the issues of the KP and continues to perform like a champ, I have been talking to other friends working on both 10.5 and 10.4 having issues with Alesis mixers and USB-powered pre-amps. It sounds less of an Apple issue and more of an Alesis issue.
I think all we can do is wait for Alesis to resolve the problem they are failing to acknowledge is theirs. Not much of an answer, but apparently this the way things appear to be.

  • DSX-S310BTX regularly displays "overload" error with iPhone 6

I've had my DSX-S310BTX -- which is still a current model -- for about 2-1/2 years. It worked flawlessly when connected via USB with an iPhone 4S. However, once I replaced the phone with an iPhone 6 last September, I immediately began getting "overload" error messages on the receiver's display when listening to music from the USB-connected iPhone 6. These messages happen frequently when the phone's battery nears a full charge, but occur only rarely when the battery is below 80%.
I see that no phones after the iPhone 4S are on the list of officially supported phones. That seems strange for a product that is still a current model.
I have no interest in using Bluetooth instead of USB because the audio quality is nowhere near as good.
Is there any way to make the two play nice together?

    Hi brianreichow,
Here are the only compatible devices to this car stereo.
    iPod Nano 1st - 6th generation
    iPod Touch 1st - 4th generation
    iPod Classic
    iPod with video
    iPhone
    iPhone 3G
    iPhone 3GS
    iPhone 4

Anyone pls help. It's bit urgent. Thanks.

I was using iReport v0.5.0 and it uses jasperreports-0.6.7.jar (v0.6.7) of
JasperReports. I compiled and i deployed my application in BEA weblogic server. I got the error listed below. Only after i saw your
response explaining that iReport was the issue, i checked the iReport lib directory and found this version of jasperreport jar.
iReport creates a java source file which is used to a jasper file.
iReport will link in the v0.6.7 version of jasperReports. When you
deploy your web application it will recognize this version through the compiled jasper file and give you the InvalidClassException, even
though you only have one jasperReport jar deployed with your war file.
The way i fixed this problem was to create my web application with the
    jasperreport jar comes with iReport.
    Thanks for mentioning iReport.
    Christopher

  • Disk too slow and system overload error

I like many other users am having problems with the "disk too slow or system overload error (-10010)." It only seems to occur during playback attempts, seeing as I recorded with no problems yesterday, and only began happening today (granted, I have not tried recording anything since this started happening). I have tried changing the buffer size (still occurs at all levels), and, as per noted in a similar post, ensuring that my computer does not at any time put drives to sleep. All my sessions are stored on an external Toshiba Canvio Connect 2.0 TB drive connected directly to my computer via USB.
My setup (I know that this is going to draw a lot of criticism) is a macbook air with 2 gb 1067 MHz DDR3 ram and a 1.4 GHz intel core 2 duo processor, running OS X 10.9.3. While I am fully aware (I promise) that these are well below the recommended numbers, I have been using this configuration since June without any problems whatsoever.

    Clancy,
    No problem!
I also added it to the Useful links and resources for Logic Pro X  page in the tips sections....
    Cheers..

  • Audio/MIDI Sync Errors

After working perfectly for months, I now am getting audio MIDI Sync error messages. The result is no audio output either from audio instruments or recorded audio. I am using a MOTU 896HD and audio thru itunes works as long as Logic is not running at the same time. If I switch to built in audio it seems to play back fine.

    Stever,
There's a few posts on this over at the Sonikmatter forums.
    Two things were recommended.
Toggle the internal clock to ADAT then back to internal.
If that doesn't help, unplug the unit (electricity and firewire) then toggle the voltage selector switch, (putting it back to there it was of course).
After doing this, flip the clock to ADAT then back to internal.
The idea is to reset the unit.
    Post back if this works...
