Increase value in a variable (advance)

Sample code:
   positiveevent[0].titletxt="Found Treasure"
   positiveevent[0].descriptxt="Congratuation, you found a treasure chest within it there is"+ String (changeable) + "energy crystal"
   positiveevent[0].effect=changeval
   positiveevent[0].effectvar=energycrystal
Energycrystal is a predefined variable in the beginning of package with public var energycrystal:int=10000; and what I like to acomplish is when a button is clicked the variable energycrystal would add the value of changeval to it. But I can't just do positiveevent[0].effectvar+=changeval because it would increase effectvar not energycrystal. I want to know how to do this because I have different effectvar like reputation and stuff. Is there a way to do it?

I´m not sure if I understand your problem, but you can always rewrite if/switch statements like this:
var conditions:Array = ["mana"."crystal","gold","weapon"];
var effect:Array = ["magic","reputation","wealth","strength"];
var points:Array = [10,15,20,25];
var energy:int = 10000;
//Now in your Button which is a MovieClip you have 4 keyframes labeled "mana","crystal","gold","wepaon"
