Increasing FSB multiplier on a c2q q9550 with a p45 neo2 mobo

Is it possible to increase the FSB multiplier on my BIOS? I can only increase it until x8.5, coz im planning to OC it by increasing the multiplier and decreasing the FSB. My FSB right now is 450 MHz x 8.5 = 3.83GHz
Specs are on my sig
any help are appreciated. Thanks!

can the i7 920 raise the multiplier to it's stock multiplier?
Quote
Well [...], yes.
Let me be somewhat clearer on this:
This statement is still true, even for Core i7 processors:
Quote
You would need an 'Extreme' edition of CPU to raise the multi.
The CPU Ratio of the i7 920 can raise above x20, but only to a certain extend (within the limits defined by the Intel Turbo Boost Feature for this processor).  That means x21 is possible, and maybe x22 (I am not sure).
To be able to raise the multiplier to (let's say) x33, you still need an Intel Extreme Edition processor.  ---> Like this one:

  • Fluctuating FSB/Multiplier

Hi, i've recently purchased a K8N Neo4-F motherboard along with a x2 3800 toledo, and i'm having problems with the FSB and mulitplier fluctuating. I've been checking it in core center, and the core speed often drops or rises by about 200MHz as a result of the changing FSB/multiplier.
I found a post on this forum with someone having the same problem as mine and with the same motherboard(and similar rig), and the suggestions were:
    Quote
Set your power savings in windows to "always on" .
Disable CnQ in Cell menu in bios .
Click on the Cool'n'Quiet text in Corecenter and change from auto to user mode
I've tried them all but it didn't work for me. I've noticed the problem seems to get worse when i've had the PC running for longer periods though, its fairly stable at first for awhile. The temps are fine all the time, never seen it above 40c, the vcore fluctuates by up to 0.07v, I assume thats ok but i'm not sure. I have a Hiper Type-R 580W power supply, so that shouldn't be the problem.
    Any suggestions?

Well i'm kinda glad its normal, not something i'm used to. Like starting up a game to be told my system has changed all the time is a bit annoying. I did have it overclocked to 2.8GHz for awhile, which runs perfectly stable. But when the fluctuating started I got a bit concerned and put it back to stock speed... but it still does it

  • Sempron 2.4 cant change fsb multiplier

hey i just built myself another computer with 2.4 sempron with MSI KM4M-V mobo... i think lol and i just updated the bios because when i go to frequency control etc in bios i cant update the fsb multiplier so the processor runs at the correct speed windows is only recognising the processor as a 1.33 anyone have any ideas? i updated bios with live update the bios is Award bios

    KM4M manual
According to page 10 of that manual, the jumpers should look something like this:
    SW1

    |
    SW2
That *should* give 166FSB, if the manual is correct, there is a statement that V1.2 of the manual has corrected the jumper settings.

  • With MSI K8T NEO2 FIR Mb (help)

    Hi.
    I need some help....!
    My computer contains:
    AMD64 3500+ (130nm, Newcastle) socket 939
    MSI K8T NEO2 FIR Hovedkort for S939 K8T800PRO
    Kingston PC3200 HyperX DDR 1024MB CL2 Non-ECC Ultra Low Latency (2-2-2-5-1)
Gainward GeForce 6800GT 256MB GS GDDR3 AGP, "Ultra/2400 Golden Sample"
    9 X Western Digital HD's
    2 X Nec dvd-burning-r
    A Gainward psu. (delivers "+3,3=28a" "+5=45a" "+12=20a" and a total of 550W)
I think I have a power problem... because the "+12" has a rather low number for this kind of system... and the BIOS is showing me that the "+12" reading is -- 11,42V --  This is idle in BIOS... and I got the same reading in Win... (idle)
The first thing I thought of was to disable as many disk's/cd-drives as I was able to... the only thing I have left is C: BUT!! the bios and windows gives me the same reading of the "+12"  11,42V.
Both +3,3 and +5 are on the + side.
The main problem is when I ex starts a game or a benchmark prog... Like HL2,battlefield,War3,3dmarks,Prime95 + + +  the pc shuts down, or the prog/game won't run properly.... Kind of irritating!!!
Do anybody have any experience with this kind of problem?!?!?! I need help!
I thought of buying the OCZ 520w psu....  Does it solve the problem?
    http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/power_management/ocz_powerstream_power_supply
This psu should give me these specs:
    520W:
    +3.3V(28A)
    +5V(40A)
    +12V(33A)
    Many Thanks for your help!!
    regards.

Prime95 version 23.8.1 is my first choice, I run the torture test in blend mode because it uses lots of ram, very sensitive to errors. Pure math computataions and matched against known results.
I also use Hot Cpu tester Pro 4.2.2, they do have a free version as well it tests alot of different cpu instructions as well as memory simultaniously as well as doing a burn-in. Faster than Prime, nice when your overclocking since you can see what is failing sse instructions for example, then you can either up the cpu voltage or ram voltage depending on the test or back off the oc a bit.Used it alot with my old Barton 2500 rig.
I've seen a third program used on some of the overclocking sites Superpi. I believe, lol, been meaning to bookmark and try it myself. I imagine it's used to quickly detect memory errors as well as  being a benchmark without stressing components.
This board isn't made for overclocking kind of useless without a working agp/pci lock. Sata corruption over 220 fsb so I've been content with using the first 2 programs to tweak my memory settings and test for stability.
Yeah I noticed that too when I set the DDR to 400 the bios will override the Cas being set to 2 and run it at 2.5 My board doesn't freeze when saving it though. I leave it set at 2.5 in the bios and use A64Tweaker to manually set the Cas to 2 in windows it works fine that way and is easily verified with cpuz or everest. Personally I don't trust using spd in the bios and prefer to manually set all the timing to the manufacturers recommended settings. *edit* I also forgot to mention to when you check your ram manufacturer's website to see if the sticks of ram are capably of Command Rate 1T(CR) some can't other can only if one stick is being used. You may need to set the Dram 1T timing to disable, sorry about that

  • Using 4xsata drives with MSI K8N NEO2

    Hi to all
am planning on building a system in the next couple of weeks with the msi neo2 m/board but have heard a few rumours regarding the sata controllers. I plan to incorporate an opteron 146 and 2xballistic pc4000 as well as four sata drives but have heard that I should not use 2 of the sata connectors on the board (which ones?) if wish to overclock as my data could be corrupted (dont plan to RAID).
Could someone please confirm if this is in fact true and whether a BIOS update would remedy it or infact if their is any cure.
    Cheers

    Hi , yes unfortunately it's true !
Sata ports 3/4 is the fully nforce3 native chipset integrated (uses nvidia integrated PHY).
Use only theese if overclocking .
Satallink clock will be retained at 100mhz always .
Sata ports 1/2 are bridged from the nvidia chipset to an external marvell PHY .
Theese ones can not be used with HTT ref clock beyond ~230mhz +/- a few mhz without producing data corruption .
Satalink ref clock of 100mhz will scale upwards with increased HTT .
This issue applies to all nforce3 250GB/Ultra based motherboards with more than 2 sata ports regardless which vendor/make/model.
It's the chosen hw design that is the issue and no bios ever will fix it .
If you must have 4 sata drives , do like me and install a pci SIL sata controller card for the drives used for storage .
Take Abit NF8 (nf3) as an example .It has only 2 sata ports .
    Why ?
Only the true/fully chipset integrated sata ports is used .
Although the nforce3 chipset supports a sata link to an external PHY for port 3 and upwards some has chosen to not utilize it .
Nforce 4 chipset has corrected this hw design by adding more sataport by the link to external phy .
In nf4 four ports are fully/true chipset integrated , and does not suffer from this overclock barrier .

  • Having problem with extra DDR2 for P45 Neo2

Having problem with adding more DDR2 to my P45 Neo2. I currently have 2x hyperx 2gb ram installed, but I would like to take it up to 8gb. I had purchased another set, installed and pc wouldn't load. I installed these into another pc and they worked fine. What am I missing? I have tried googling but cannot find the solution to my question.According to MSI it will take DDR2 800/1066/1200. It does not mention what module name it takes eg pc 5300, which I'm quite sure are the ones installed. I have just updated the bios to the most recent should this help?

Guessing you have all RAM related settings as "auto"?
Does the PC work with your new set only?
You may need to set the RAM timings&voltage manually in BIOS to common factors
that are valid for both your new and old RAM kits.
These settings you will do with your old kit in place, save in BIOS, exit and power down.
Insert the new kit in addition, see if it POSTS. May take a few tests to succeed.
CPU-Z program can help to figure some of the parameters.

  • Raid Issues with 925XE Platnium-54G Mobo

Hello everyone, I am having ISSUES with the above mentioned mobo and the RAID configurations.  I cannot figure out for the life of me what channel is connected to which controller and how to configure the bios to use the ones I want.  The mobo has IDE1, IDE2, IDE3 and SATA1, SATA2, SATA3, SATA4.  IDE1 is Blue and isolated at the top of the mobo.  IDE2 and IDE3 are yellow and together at the bottom of the mobo.  All SATAs are together in the middle of the mobo.
When I read the book, I get the idea that IDE1 is its own controller,  IDE2 & IDE3 belong to the VIA controller and the SATAs belong to the Intel Controller.  Here is my problem whenever I connect a SATA device, the system hangs on POST!  I have tried every combination I can think of in the BIOS, but I cannot get the system to recognize these drives when connected to the SATA ports.
Here is what I am trying to do.
2 120 GB WD 8MB 7200 IDE Drives converted to SATA with the High Point Rocket Head 100 converter.  I want these to in a RAID 0 on the INTEL SATA controller.  I would like to use the VIA controller as an IDE controller not a raid controller, and connected a 200GB Data drive to one of those controllers.  Then use the IDE1 as my optical drive controller.
I know what you are going to say, that is is probably an incompatability with the rockethead converters, but before you jump to that conclusion, I upgraded from the MSI 875P Mobo and used the rocketheads successufully on that mobo.
Can someone PLEASE tell me how to set up the bios so that I can get this thing set up the way I want it within the next 30 days so I can just reinstall Win XP before I activate it for the first time.
    Thank You
    Lightning
I presently have the 80's in a RAID on what I believe to be the VIA controller with the 200 on the secondary, but this does give me a boot delay, because it warns me that a raid cannot be created with a single drive on every boot.  the 200 is useable in Win XP Pro however.
    PLEASE HELP!

yup.  I have given up on this issue, according to High Point, the convert will not work on intel ich5, that's funny, I had it working on my 875 mobo which was ich5.  I am assuming, if it is not suppose to work on ich5, then it will NOT work on ich6.

  • Increase in FSB vs Increase in Multiplier

is there any difference in performance ? by this two ?
    FSB : 100
    Multiplier : 30
    Core Speed : 3000Mhz
    or
    FSB : 200
    Multiplier : 15
    Core Speed : 3000Mhz

As you have an AMD system it makes a huge difference and what has been said before is incorrect. What you call FSB is the reference clock (BCLK) which all other clockrates are based on (front-side bus is an ancient technology on AMD systems and doesn't exist for years). Overclocking the reference clock can help to really optimize any oc and get more performance gain than sheer cpu clockrate increase would allow. Of course it takes way more tweaking to elaborate stable/optimal results.
Check this FM2 oc guide that will also help to understand the basics of overclocking your very similar FM1 system: http://www.ocinside.de/go_e.html?http://www.ocinside.de/html/workshop/amd_fm2_overclock.html
Still be aware that neither your cpu nor your mainboard are really meant for oc so there might be just little oc possible.

  • Cannot Increase CPU Multiplier - Help?

    Here's my problem:
I've unlocked the CPU Multipliers on my AMD XP-1600+ by
connecting the L1 bridges.  System boots & runs OK with
stock (10.5 x 133) multiplier value (I'm running that right
now).  I can also reduce the multiplier (10 x 133).
    When I try to increase it (11 x 133) the system won't
POST; I have to power-off/on (then I get to re-enter ALL
    BIOS data). javascript:smilie('X(')
    Mad
Can anyone give me a clue what's wrong?  Have I blown
the unlocking; will my mobo just not support increased
multipliers...??  I've had the system running stable @ 148
Mhz FSB before unlocking it (and at least 140 Mhz after).
    Here is my H/W setup:
    KT7266-Pro (6380) Ver 1.0 mobo with Ver 1.9 BIOS
    Ver 4.43 4-in-1 Drivers, Ver 30.82 Detonator.

Thanks for the reply wonkanoby - yes, I did;  first cleaned
out the 'ash' then filled them with JB-Weld.
This is the 2nd time I've tried unlocking.  The first time, the
BIOS reported clock speed as 1200 Mhz no matter what I
did.  Well, I hope the 3rd time does it - that's a bloody
tedious job, even with a 5x 'hands-free' magnifier.
BTW, what do you recommend for removing rear-window
de-fogger paint?  I've been using acetone.

  • System won't boot after increased FSB to 166

I have a K7n2 board with AMD 2100+.  The system was working fine until, i increased the FSB to 166.  Now when i turn on the system, no beep sound and no video at all.  There are power to all of the orther components.  I cleared the cmos, nothing happen when i powered up.  I have another system, with ECS and AMD 1800+.  I swapped the CPU between the two systems.  Placing the 1800+ in the K7n2, the system boot up fine.  But, the board recogninzing the CPU as AMD(tm) Athlon XP 1924 mhz.  It is supposed to be only 1.53 mhz.  The system run fine.  When placing the 2100+ back in, it won't boot.
When placing the 2100+ in the ECS board the computer boot up fine also. I eliminated the CPU problems.
    Thanks for any help.

I got it to work now. I reset the safe mode(100 mhz), rebooted, go to the BIOS set to default, and reset the jumper to user mode (default 133).  It work fine now.
    Ignore the question, thanks.

  • Using multiply effect on illustrator file with 2 color job?

    Hi,
Encountering a tricky problem and not sure if its an InDesign fix or an Illustrator fix.
I am working on a 2 color job—pms color + black on a book cover. The cover needs to seperate into these 2 colors.
Also, I need to make a high res and lowres pdf that look like the cover to send out to marketing, sales etc.
    WHAT's THE PROBLEM?...
Well, I am creating a collage with black ink vector graphics on top of the pms background. I created this art in illustrator. it is saved as an .eps file. The illos were done by someone who used a white fill to knock out black areas. There is also a wide 50% grey outline around the illustration.
I like the idea of the line of the illo being black and the fill being red so that it looks seethrough on the red background. But the 50% grey outline causes a problem...I'd like the 50% outline to blend with the red color, so instead of appearing like there is white in the ink it overprints.
The only way I could think of (and quickest way) was to apply the multiply filter in illustrator to the vector illo. This seemed to work great.
I brought the illo into InDesign where I created my cover layout.
Looks great, Prints great. Separations appear to be good, although it shows the yellow, cyan, and majenta layer they appear to be blank, so I think it will seperate nicely into 2 plates–PMS + black.
BUT, when I make a pdf, using "smallest file size" or using "high quality print", the pdf it makes does not show the illustrations in the collage. They are kind of beige and dulled out. The publisher needs pdfs too.
Does this at all indicate that this job will not print correctly using this multiply filter, or is it all well and good final product wise, but its just an issue making the pdf? I am slightly nervous I am going to send this off to the printer and they will have some issue.
I am a professional designer of 10 years with lots of print experience, but I have never used multiply in illustrator so I just want to make sure there is no rule against doing this I should know about. Does multiply at all mess with the color separations or is it fine? And how do I get my pdf to come out right? I'm hoping there's some dumb thing I'm forgetting, or a simple fix.
Thanks for any insight you may have!
    L.

I did figure out after posting this that I was using one .ai file and one .eps file—the .ai was showing up fine in the pdf and the eps was showing up screwy.
odd thing though, when I just re-exported using pdf/x–1a settings, now both images appear muddy! but fine when I turn "overprint preview" on. I just don't want my publisher to have to tell everybody to turn overprint preview on...they shouldn't have to do that for editors etc, non design people.
maybe the new "smallest file size" will be fine though since this is a press preset...we'll see.
