.indd files not associated with indesign

I have tried searching for this issue and found people with the same problem, but no solution.
I have a computer that has XP SP3 and Creative Suite 3.  At first I could not get the indd files to associate with indesign, at file types, it would allow me to select indesign.exe, I hit okay, but then nothing is changed.  Finally through deleting and recreating manually I have indd files associated with indesign, but now it only opens indesign, it does not open the file.  So it is as if I am just opening indesign.  (BTW-- to get the association I created a new association and simply have c:\...\indesign.exe, so that is probably why it is only opening the program and not the file)
Anybody seen how to solve this issue?
thank you

It should look like this (including the double quotes):
"C:\..(your path here)..\InDesign.exe" "%1"

  • .indd files not opening with recently installed Indesign CS3

The .indd files don't have the Indesign icon next to them, instead they have the win32 icon. When I double click on one of the files an error message appears telling me that...
"this file is not a valid win32 application"
Even when I right-click on the file and choose to open with Indesign, it tells me the same thing. Also in this options menu, Indesign is not shown with the Indesign logo next to it, but rather the windows generic 'unknown file type' logo.
If I open Indesign first however, and then choose file>open and choose the file. It opens fine.

Exactly my situation yesterday, with the icon disappearing and INDD files not opening within InDesign from Explorer.
I'm using an early XP Pro, which I guess qualifies it as 32 bit.
The steps to rebuilding everything using the Folder Options in Windows Explorer are:
Tools > Folder Options > File Types
If INDD is not listed, click the New button to creat an entry, otherwise select it and click the Advanced button.
You have an option to change the icon, so navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS3 and select the InDesign icon.
Then under actions you need to create four actions that will relate to the context menu choices when you right click an INDD files, so click New and add actions for edit, open, preview and print.
In the Application used to perform action box enter "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS3\InDesign.exe" "%1"
Those quote marks are important. Just browsing to InDesign.exe will fill the box for you, but for some reason - for me at least - it creates the %1 indicating to open the file you selected, but it doesn't wrap it in quotes. And without those quotes (at least on my machine) InDesign will start but won't load the file.
There is also a check box to use DDE. I don't know what's appropriate here, but I ticked the box and it works OK.

  • Quicktime taking over files not associated with it

I downloaded itunes and it had quicktime coupled with it. Now when I'm in IE it opens my .tiff files in quicktime instead of Microsoft Office Picture Manager. I have checked the file associations and it still says Microsoft Office Picture Manager. What can I do so when I click on a .tiff file on the internet that it wont automatically open in quicktime??

Try going in to the registry (Start>Run> type regedit, click ok) and cleaning out HKEYCLASSESROOT\QuickTime\ specifically look for folders and keys with TIF or TIFF in them. I have a feeling though QT will rebuild at the next startup as this has been the trend.
You could also try installing eiStream (now Global 360) Imaging for Windows. This program make for a nice Tiff viewer on it's own but more importantly it will erase QuickTime's file association and instead ask weather you want to save or choose a program to open with. This has worked well for me in the past but lately on one users machine QT will seal the file association back after a reboot.

  • The *.icc file is associated with PS process after assigning profile for a picture of CMYK mode ?

Hi everyone, I have a curious problem for your help
My OS is Windows 7. Start PS and open an image, choose "Edit" -> "Assign Profile...", in the pop-up dialog there is a drop-down list showing many system profiles, and I find all of these *.icc files are stored in folder "C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color". Just choose any profile to assign, then go to folder "C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color" and find the related icc file, for example, JapanColor2001Coated.icc is for profile "Japan Color 2001 Coated". Now you can still rename the icc file, that is, the icc file is not taken by photoshop process. Our company has a software to generate icc files, however, when assign these profiles, the icc file is associated with PS process, which means I can't rename or delete the related icc file, even after assigning another profile, unless close the image documents, that is unwanted. So I'd like to know the reason, in fact I'm not very clear about the ICC file structure. I want to make the local disk file not associated with the process so I can do other operations.
    Any suggestion will be appreciated.

I made a quick try and I can change the name of various custom profiles I've created using Photoshop but it appears that the name of the profile can't be changed if Photoshop was started with the profile in question selected as a soft proofing profile in View > Proof Setup. You have to quit Photoshop, just changing the soft proofing profile to another is not enough.

  • Since changing our computer I have been unable to download ebooks to my Reader Library I get a message Some file types associated with EPUB files are not associated with Reader Library; Waterstones suggest that I may have accidentally created a new Adobe

When I try to download them from the Waterstones website I get a message saying:
‘Some file types associated with EPUB files are not associated with Reader Library.  Do you want to associate them now?  When I reply yes I get another message; ‘Configuration error unable to update EPUB files check network firewall and try again’.
The ‘books’ are saved in the Download directory and I can’t transfer them from there to my E-Reader. I have not had any problems before, it was very simple; I saved the download and it automatically went into the Reader Library.
I contacted HP and they said it is a software error and suggested I contact Waterstones.  I contacted Waterstones Customer Support and got the following response:
As the error message is specifically mentioning the firewall it does sound like something in the firewall settings is stopping the download from taking place correctly. However, the files should not be being saved to the Download folder. It would be worth trying again by going to your Digital Order History on your Waterstones.com account and pressing the download button, and then making sure to press "Open" not "Save". When you press Open rather than Save it should give the option to open the file with Adobe Digital Editions. If the firewall message still comes up then I'm afraid something is blocking it on your end.
If the above "Open" download method works but you then still get an error message it could possibly be that you have accidentally created a new Adobe ID when setting up on the new computer, rather than signing in with your old Adobe ID. It would be worth trying the aforementioned download technique again first, but if problems did still persist it would be worth calling Adobe themselves on 0207 365 0735, as they should be able to sort out any account issue.
In response to the first para of Waterstones email I already do what they suggest I do press ‘Open’ not ‘Save’ but I don’t get the open with Adobe Digital Editions (we have installed Adobe Digital Editions on the new computer. Waterstones say we may have ‘accidentally created a new Adobe ID when setting up the new computer’ does that mean that we shouldn’t have installed Adobe Digital Editions on the new computer as it would have already been there? How do I sign in with my old Adobe ID?

Hi all after attampting to get some supoport from adobe by phone.... nice people infurating policys as far as support for digital editions or DRM is conserned... However I got no where with support.
I ended up instaling Digital editions on my desktop PC and going through the motions of registering and borrowing a book then returning it. Then I trying on my iPad, Bluefire worked, Over drive did not so I completely removed Overdrive and reinstalled and re registered. all working now.
Maybe some one at adobe did something. Maybe the install of the adobe DE client on a PC corrected what ever was out of wack with my account. Mayby the server that my account lives on did a scan disk and corrected a bad clustrer.
What ever happend My account is actiove and working again. hope this helps others.

  • The vendor account is not associated with the file you are trying to open. Please try again.

Please help me to understand what is the problem with the set up of the program. I bought an ebook from an internet site to which my IP address was blocked (in country 1). My brother bought it on a computer in country 2  and wanted to download and send me the file so I can open it on my computer. He set up initial download without Adobe ID. Afterwards he downloaded the pdf and send it to me. I tried to upload it  with my ADE reader but it didn't work without ID. My brother then deleted afterwards his ADE and installed it again, downloaded the ebook again but this time setting up an ID. He transferred me the file ,I used the same ID  but then the following message appeared "The vendor account is not associated with the file you are trying to open. Please try again." . Can this be fixed somehow? I cannot open the URLLinks even as there is no connection from my IP , but I have the pdf file ( ebook) but I don't know how to set up the program.

Sorry Everyone this error message appeared in Digital Editions 4 used on a windows 8 laptop.  Thanks Chris

  • TS2776 Outlook cannot open the file because it is not associated with the default identity.

Outlook cannot open the file because it is not associated with the default identity.

I've had the same problem. Even though you check the box to save it as Keynote '08, it does not open in ')8 (I get the same message)...you need to reopen it in '09.
I have even changed the name of the file in '08 and eventually get the same message.
I believe that once you open it in '09, you're committed to that.
Let me know if you have better luck.

  • College email is not associated with Office anymore ?

    Here is my situation,
I received an email from my college stating that i am able to get and use Office 365 for free. I downloaded and installed the software and it was working perfectly. after a couple of months i encountered hard drive failure,
i manage to recover my files and downloaded the software again. i went through the same process of installing it as the first time and it was successful but THEN, i got notified that i needed to activate office by a certain date or I will not be able to use
the program. I thought it was simple so i clicked "activate"and nothing showed up to prompt me to the activation. long story short, i longed in to my student email on outlook to later find out that my student account is not associated with Office.
I discussed that with other students from my school and they are not going through the same thing. is there anything i can do to be able to use the programs again?

    Hi,
Could you please let me know where exactly did you download Office? On the top-right corner, are you able to login by clicking the
    Sign in link?
Please try to sign in to Office 365 portal with your college account, at
http://portal.office.com/OLS/MySoftware.aspx and check if you can see Office applications listed. If you see Office listed, then your account is associated with Office properly.
" i longed in to my student email on outlook to later find out that my student account is not associated with Office."
Not quite sure what you mean by this, are you saying that you're not able to use this email account anymore? If you're sure that your account is not associated with Office, you need to ask your Office 365 administrator for further assistance, to assign you
    the license again.

    Hi Tony,
Srry but No.  We just installed the monthly updates.
I went back and found I had missed removing a patch.  I missed the rollup for Windows Server 2003:
    Event Type: Information
    Event Source: NtServicePack
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 4382
    Date:  3/12/2015
    Time:  12:26:04 PM
    User:  NETTEST\admin
    Computer: DATA1
    Description:
Windows Server 2003 KB954920 was removed from your computer, and the previous Windows Server 2003 configuration was restored.
After I removed that is still didn't work but after about five minutes it started working.
I guess I ned to report that to MS after I research what might be changed to make the patch work.
Every time I get stuck and ask for help it seems to be just before I stumble on the solution.
    Thanks for replying.
Well - maybe this will help someone else.
    Thanks again for replying Tony

Since you can't delete Apple IDs and having multiple Apple IDs can cause confusion, what you may want to do is rename your existing Apple ID to the new email (desired Apple ID).  That would in effect do what you want, get rid of the old and give you the new.
