InDesign CS5 PDF - Failure to Export Vector Elements

Recently, we have had two separate incidents where the creation of an InDesign CS5 PDF failed to export certain vector art elements. The elements are not shared between jobs and the files were physically created in different locations (entirely different servers) within our organization. The elements are pdf and eps and appropriately linked. On the PDF, we're not even getting a low-res version of the artwork. When looking at the PDF in NEO, the containing box of the graphic is not present. One the most frustrating aspects of this is we haven't been able to repeat error in order to fix the error. The next time (or 50 times) the document is exported, the vector art is fine.
Has anyone else had a similar issue?

@rickphot
I've had this same problem just today. I have a 64 page INDD that when exported to PDF (print) from CS5 (with no elements on my page set to "non printing elements"), only some of my vector shapes get exported. They are all merely 0.25pt Black Lines used to direct a reader from a comment to a matching illustration, and some pages exported them just fine, and some other pages will not work. I've tried moving them to a new layer, cutting and pasting in place, copying and pasting in place, changing the transparency modes, etc...nothing works...EXCEPT to just redraw the lines.
@Bob Levine
Do you work for Adobe? Can you offer any advice to this problem yet?
Thanks all. Glad I'm not the ONLY one going crazy with a bizzare problem like this one.

  • InDesign CS5.5 Fails to export to PDF

I can't get InDesign (Mac running OS X Lion 10.7.4 ) to export to PDF. It gives me "Failed to Export to PDF" with every document I've tried. I've created new documents to test, and still gives error. I've installed the newest patch (Adobe InDesign CS5.5 7.5.3 update for Macintosh - All Languages) but still am having the same problems.
Any ideas? I've searched the internet and can't find any solutions that offer any hope. Thoughts?

The last time we saw this, it turned out to be a font problem, but it could be a lot of things. Take a look at this other thread about failure in CS5.5:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4575362#4575362
Also, check to see if it works in a new user account, or if it works in the foreground (add the file to a Book, then export from the Book).

  • Indesign CS5 with PNG file exporting as a PDF file but the text is random bold

    Hello,
I am looking for help to teach me how to solve this problem.
I use Indesign CS5 to make a proposal. I set the page marker and sub title in the master page.
Of course, there are including dozens of pages and some pictures here.
And one of these page, I place a PNG file and type some text.
When I export this file as a PDF file, one page, which is including PNG file, the text becomes random bold.
Therefore, I have used PSD file to cover the PNG file. But finally getting the same problem.
So does anyone can help me how to solve this problem?
Thanks so much for your help.

This sounds like a known issue with transparency on the page. When transparency is introduced ID uses a differnt method, apparently, of rendering text on that page and it appears bolder on screen and can print that way on low resolution devices like desktop printers. It usually is not a problem on press output.
The only way to mainatian consistency would be to introduce transparency on all pages, perhaps by adding a transparent object to your master page.

  • Indesign CS5.5 Crashes when exporting an Interactive PDF

My InDesign CS5.5 continues to crash when trying to export an Interactive PDF.
It begins to come up with a box titled WARNING but it all closes and i don't even see the error message.
Will it work if I deactivate and reactive? will that work by any chance?
    Its really frustrating.
    Yasmine.

Please upload the crash report to http://pastebin.com and post a link here.
I saw the "Replace, or "trash" your InDesign preferences" thread but am confused as to what I need to delete vs. rename or move.
It's teh same as the vulcan nerve pinch you tried -- I assume InDesign prompted you to delete preferences and you said OK.
What happens if you create a new document and Pages (panel) > Move Pages pages 1-83 to the new document, and then recreate 84 and 85 by hand? Does it work? Presumably this is document corruption of some sort.

  • I can't export vector elements with pdf

    Good morning,
    I have a problem.
When I import a vector element from illustrator to photoshop with drag, from an application to other, my
results is a vector element in photoshop (vector smart object).
If I export in PDF (save as photoshop PDF) my results isn't a vector elements, the text and shape wrote in psd
yes but the smart object no.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    thank you very much.
    Nayaril

There are a lot of features I would like to request, how about being able to rename a duplicate project.  Anyway, thanks for the answer.  I still can't send even a full project into compressor using the send to compressor button.  I did find I can use the export using compressor settings, then using the advanced menu I get a send to compressor button that does actually send my project to compressor.  I can then select an in and out point and render a small sellection from my timeline.

  • Indesign CS5 Crashes on Epub Export

I have used the epub export feature in Indesign CS5 successfully for several books. However I have one title that I have been trying to export for epub. It gets about 2/3 of the way through (as measured by the progress bar) and then Indesign crashes. I am wondering if there is a known issue and (hopefully) a work around. The book exports to PDF just fine.
    Thanks for any advice,
    Chuck

I have also had a crash on export problem recently. I went through the suggestions in this thread and searched others.
Then I stepped through a few things in my INDD.
Deleted the suspect page. Export worked.
Brought the page back. Export crashed.
Looked at all the text on the page. I had 4 boxes with bulleted text.
I converted the bullets to text and the export went ahead with no problem.
I turned the bulleted list back into a real bulleted list and the export crashed again.
    Go figure.

  • InDesign CS5.5 - Adobe Acrobat export (incorrect master pages and crop marks)

Hi, I've recently experienced a couple of anomalies when exporting books from InDesign to PDF.
The first issue was that, on seemingly random pages of the book, the exporter suddenly seemed to interpret the crop marks incorrectly. The book pages would go something like: left, right, left, right, right, left, right.
The second issue was that the pdf didn't display the correct master page on one page of the book. The InDesign file has sections with slight grey backgrounds to separate particular sections of the book. One of the pages in one of those grey sections just appears as white (the text remained unharmed) in the pdf though the InDesign file is as it should be.
    Any suggestions?

First issue: No pages are missing, the crop marks indicating whether right or left go out of l,r,l,r order.
Second issue: There is a background fill on the master page. I just checked and the attribute is fine. What's strange is that the first time I made this pdf and sent the book to print, this didn't happen. Now that I've reexported for a second print of the book it happened (the master pages haven't been touched between prints and the same print settings have been used). Is it possible that the exporter can just mess up?

  • InDesign CS5 PDF export status

It seems that now with CS5 we no longer receive a pdf export status bar. Export is running in background. When exporting large files, the only way I know it's still working or exporting is the error message when I try and close document... Saying task running in BKG.
In Cs3 and 4 there was a status bar that displayed progress. Is this a preference that can be turned on or off?
Annoying when exporting large files with many pages...
    Any help?
    Thanks

OK, well, here we go. I hope people find it useful -- if so, I'l make an announcement thread so people are more inclined to see it.
You can also download it from here.  See How to Install InDesign Scripts for installation instructions. If you save it in the
Startup Scripts folder, it will run automatically when InDesign is started. Running it a second time disables it.

  • Illustator Image placed in InDesign CS5 moving position when Exporting to PDF

I have a Illustrator image placed on a master page and when I go to export to a PDF  the image moves to the left about 2 inches.
The same image on another master page outputs correctly.
I copied and pasted it from the page that is working correctly to this master page, but it still moves.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Are you fully patched?
Can you make this happen with a fresh file and different graphic?
Tried the fix corrupt files by expoting to inx or idml?

  • There were no results for InDesign CS5.5 crashes when exporting a PDF in OSX.

Clean install, I created a file from scratch with embedded links to jpegs, single page pdfs, and photoshop files I created.
This is not acceptable in released software to be going backwards like this. Can someone please tell me how to fix this?
    Thanks.

That sounds like the problem that Larry was talking about which seems to be related to the latest release of Lion. Try holding down the Opt key when you export to bypass the dialogs. You'll find more details at http://forums.adobe.com/message/4496690#4496690

  • Indesign CS5 crashes trying to export from PDF to epub

I am trying to use Export for command to send a pdf file placed into In Design to epub format.
    The program crashes immeadiately.
The PDF is 120 pp and includes a TOC. The OS is Win 7 Pro.

What are you trying to accomplish? Are you thinking that this PDF will be converted to an EPUB with live text?
It won’t. You will have an epub with 120 JPG images and no TOC at all.
I don’t know why it’s crashing but it doesn’t matter anyway since, I imagine, you are under the false impression that you will get a functional epub doing this.

  • InDesign CS5.5 Can't export to anything but smallest size PDF

    Hi everyone,
starting this morning i am unable to export a document as a PDF to anything but the smallest possible size setting. All the other options (high quality print, x1a, etc) are gone. I installed an update yesterday but can't recall what the update was for so i'm wondering if anyone else is having this issue? I have some ads due and need to export to a higher res PDF.
I've tried doin't Print as Adobe PDF but the option doesn't reside there either.
    Comments/suggestions definitely welcome.
    Thanks!

You can start with wahtever preset is avialable. From the dropdown for standards, pick PDF/X-1a and most of the seetings will chang automatically for you, but you still need to go to the Compression screen and make sure the color and grayscale sownsample values are set to 300 and the the image quailty is set to Maximum, and set lineart compression to 1200, then go to the Advanced screen and set the transparency flattener resolution to [High Resolution].
Do you make backups of your computer on a regular basis? On mac that would probably be Time Machine, on windows either Windows backup or a third-party program. If you do, you ought to be able to find your old presets on the backup file and restore them.

  • InDesign CS5 - PDF Book Flow

I am in the process of creating an InDesign book that is meant to be viewed as web-only. They are facing pages as the design requires the pages to be viewed side by side. There is a problem, though, with the chapters that have an uneven amount of pages. The page will not flow down to the next chapter, making for a very awkward-looking PDF.
For example, the PDF looks something like this, wherein [][] is a spread and [ ] is one page.
I would like to be able to click through the PDF and have it look more like this:
Where all of the spreads are visible rather than having the few scraggling single-page screens.
Is there a way to get the pages all to flow together once I export it to PDF? Will I have to manually go through each page in order to make sure they are spreads?
So far I have modified my documents so that all pages start on page 2, eliminating the single 'cover' page, but the end of the chapter is causing me trouble still.

Spreads are built in the PDF during export, so if there are an uneven number of pages in the file you will get one single page, or if you have an even number and start the chapter on a right page you will get two single page spreads. Acrobat will not combine pages.
You have two choices, combine your chapters into a single file before exporting, or export as single pages and let acrobat display them side-by-side. You can control the initial display settings in Acrobat Pro so the book will always appear as two pages when opened, but you can't prevent a user form changing the display option after opening if you use the second method.
You should think very carefully about your design and your viewers. Not all readers have young eyes or wide-screen displays. I personally find pages set as two-columns to be very difficult to work with on screen as a consumer, let alone having to look at a full two-page spread.
