Index or any other?

I have 2 tables that i am accessing through a database link and they have lots of data.
one having over 1 crore and another more than 10 lakh.
i have created indexes on the columns that are being used in where clause but
still the query is taking lots of time to execute.
so, what is advisible?
to use index or any is there any other mechanism by which the time is reduced?

did you try ASSIGN COMPONENT xx OF STRUCTURE <IT_TABEL1> TO <IT_TABLE2>.
xx will contain the number of the column
or maybe, if you have the description with a field catalog or other, that will be easier ..

Does dropping a bitmap index on table which is being used continuously for DML operations and creation of b- index cause any dead locks on a table
in oracle 10g database
( 10.1.0.4.0 - 64bi).
we have seen alert log file which has dead lock occurrence.. would index change/re-creation resulted dead lock or some other reason?

Bitmap indexes can be the cause of deadlocks on busy systems.
Dropping indexes may cause some locking.
Creating indexes may cause some locking.
You haven't given any traces or scripts or lock information, so difficult to say which one (if any) was the cause of your deadlocks.
It would be better to do this activity when the system is not busy.

Can't play MIDI the same time as any other sound.

Hello there.
I am a bass player and therefore I use GTick from [extra] as a metronome and TuxGuitar from [community] as GuitarPro tablature reader. I have a problem with (at least) this two programs: when I try to start the metronome or to play a tablature, I get error messages if any sound is playing, no matter if it is Amarok playing music, or TuxGuitar playing a tablature.
For non-musicians, a GuitarPro tablature is a transcription of a song which can be played through MIDI at the same time as you can see the partiture, or the notes played on an image of a guitar neck or a keyboard.
This happens every time I want to play some MIDI from this two apps: if I have a tablature open with TuxGuitar I can't play another tablature on another instance of TuxGuitar, or even start GTick to play alone with the metronome. I have to close TuxGuitar and start GTick, or open the other tablature in the same instance of TuxGuitar, which is annoying when, for example, trying to compare two tablatures of the same song.
This makes me think that my system can't play any MIDI when some other sound is playing, but I don't know any other MIDI apps to try. Any ideas on how to setup multiple MIDI playing? I've read on the Wiki [1] that it was necessary to enable dmix some time ago to allow multiple programs play sound at once, but this is not necessary since ALSA 1.0.9rc2, and I have alsa-lib 1.0.17a-1.

You may think you are connected to the internet, but maybe not. Click on Safari and see if it connects.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.

[noob] Using setChildIndex to keep an array of items above any other children?

I'm continuing trying to develop my little adventure game (I've used a heck of a lot of event listeners; don't shame me until I become pro).
I have a set of "itemAttach"s (circles generated in the constructor function I plan on using temporarily to "hold" items (other Children) that are found, i.e. setting the X and Y of an item to the X and Y of an itemAttach1, 2, etc.
Thing is, I have various scenes (Children that cover the entire stage) being added and removed that end up hiding the itemAttach's.
Can I use setChildIndex (perhaps when they're being generated through the array) to keep the itemAttach's above any other Child that comes or goes? Would it be better to set any other Child to just go behind the itemAttach's index number?
Any help would be appreciated. Certainly let me know if any other info is needed.

Well, the problem is I'm adding other Children after the itemAttach Children that cover up the itemAttach Children. I was hoping to find a solution that somehow kept the itemAttach Children above everything else, rather than having to add and remove them all the time simply to keep them above everything else.
Could you maybe explain how I can use setChildIndex properly? For instance, can I set the index of a group of array-created objects?
One thing you might consider is having all the objects placed inside another container object and just maintain the index of the container instead of managing all of the individual objects.
This seems a little out of my league right now. I'll keep it in mind, though, for future projects.

You're purchased music is not so much saved to the cloud, but rather indexed, since it is already in the cloud by virtue of being in the iTunes store.
If you want to check whether your purchases are being indexed or not, go to the purchased section on the main page of the iTunes store. There you will see a list of all your purchased items.

I've downloaded archlinux-2012.12.01-dual.iso and wrote it to USB. I've booted from that USB and set up partititons using command cfdisk.
/dev/sda5 ==> /boot
/dev/sda6 ==> /
/dev/sda7 ==> swap
/dev/sda8 ==> /home
I don't remember if I've created /mnt or if it was already there. I've created two directories: /mnt/boot and /mnt/home as per instructions:

I've mounted /dev/sda6 on /mnt
and now there are no /mnt/boot and /mnt/home under the /mnt
I don't understand what to do now because instructions state that I should create directories /mnt/boot and /mnt/home and mount them but now that I've mounted / on /mnt the /mnt/boot and /mnt/home are not available to mount partitions /dev/sda6 and /dev/sda8

mkdir /mnt/boot
mount /dev/sda5 /mnt/boot
Then do pacstrap etc. Add /home to fstab before you reboot.
Alternatively you can mkdir /mnt/home and mount /sda8 there too, then genfstab will add the entry in fstab for it for you.

Data Recover From Formatted Drive? What is the best program to use to get back Logic Projects and any other file type?

I was in the process of reorganising my hard drives so I could RAID them however I managed to corrupt one drive and had to format it which meant I lost all my Logic Files and some other files. I managed to save a lot of files (mainly video files) before I had to format the drive but I need a Data Recovery service that will not alter anything on the hard drive and will put all the formatted files (regardless of the type) back for me so I can get the rest of the ones I need.

No. FS doesn't reconstruct folders. However, Data Rescue does, depending on how you use it. About the only thing in Data Rescue a Quick Scan ever seems to show you are files that are already live.
So that leaves you with a Deep Scan, or a Deleted Files scan. The first pass of a Deep Scan will attempt to retrieve folders and files, along with their original names. The second pass only looks for file patterns. Like recognizing a Photoshop .psd file. It will recover it, but give it a nonsense name. A Deleted Files scan only results in nonsense names of recognized file types; no folders.
What were you using File Salvage on? A hard drive?

No, both of the software mentioned are slower than molasses in January. When you delete anything in Windows, its file table entry simply tagged as deleted. So to unerase them, the tag is removed. That's why it works to quickly and easily (assuming you haven't already overwritten the data to be recovered).
In OS X though, the whole idea of the underlying UNIX structure is all about security. It's not supposed to be easy to retrieve deleted items. When you delete items, their file table entries are erased. So the only way to find deleted items is to scour the entire drive for BOF (Beginning Of File) markers that don't have a matching starting block to anything that is in the file table.
Another question, half the drive was empty. Will it fly over that empty space or will it sieve through it incase there was some files stored on it?

You can't boot Windows natively except on internal drives.
You can use a VM and put the VM image (VHD) anywhere any drive you want.
You are way too low on disk space, seriously so. And no room - even Windows and Mac OS should be warning and balking already.
"emulator" is an old-school term, even true, running a Guest OS under Mac's as a virtual machine, shared resources (RAM, processor) is easier but not the same performance level as running natively.
