Indexing folders in PCD

Hi all,
I want to index a few iViews, so the users are able to find them through portal search.
For this reason the pcd-folder is now visible in km content and the index service "portalRolesSearch" is enabled,
like discribed in the thread: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/3322
But now, when I create an index with the service "portal roles search" and try to define a datasource, I'm not able
to save this index. There comes an error "Error while saving null".
Do I need one more setting to enable search for one folder out of the pcd?
I am able to save the datasource pcd, but while indexing there also appears an error.
Can you please help further?
Thanks in advance!

  • TREX 7.0 - moving index / queue folders to new installation

    Hi,
I have a TREX 7.0 instance, I want to move it and also change the SID. Can I just install a new TREX instance and then copy the queue and index folders to the new instance? Or do I need to copy the whole TREX directory? Can I still do this if the SID is changing?
    Many thanks

    Hi Jane,
I read, you have a TREX 7.0 Instance.
Do you have this Instance on a extra machin? maybe OS Win 64Bit?

  • Re indexing issues in Apple Loop Browser (LP 9.0.2 / OSX 10.6.1 / Digi 002r

I'm trying to re index my loop browser in LP9 / OSX10.6.1
Are you having the same problem?
After trashing the 'Apple Loop Index', I pull in a folder from an external drive and notice that previous folders added to my browser have gone, including Jam Packs.
Also, I can't find the 're-index' option within the loop browser search option (right click brings down a list but the re-index option isn't there)
Interested to see whet you find.

Yep, I also had issues, where indexing the LP8 way (dragging folders with loops from the Finder onto the Logic loop browser) just bluffed to work (I dropped the folder on the LB, a progress window appeared, things apparently got done, but then nothing, no new entries in the Loop Browser.
So it seems that it is a L9 problem, since our Macs' are different in every aspect (Me: PPC- you: Intel, me: Leopard- you: Snow Leopard).
I finally decided to put all my loops in their default install locations and reindex them from there:
    *Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple:*
Jam Pack 4 - Symphony Orchestra
    Jam Pack Voices
    Jam Pack World Music
    *Library/Audio/Apple Loops/iLife Sound Effects:*
    (13 folders)
    *Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops:*
(some folders with my own and 3rd party Loops)
    *Library/Application Support/Garageband/Apple Loops:*
    Apple Loops for Garageband
    Jam Pack 3- Rythm Section
for thorough reindexing, here are the steps:
    1. Quit Logic and/or any other app that uses Apple Loops.
    2. Go to all the locations I pointed out and trash all the index files from the *Apple Loops Index* folders. Also check the same locations in your Users/'you'/Library folder.
    3. Start Logic with a new empty project, open the loop browser window by hitting the o key. Now drag the folders mentioned above in bold onto your loop browser. Logic should now index them correctly, including the foldermenu !http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2743/4085966954bf4fc039d7o.png! in the loop browser.

  • Multiple Loops folders causing delayed loading?

I have installed Logic Studio and GB and updated all the software, restarted the computer and I find that some of the new loops or instruments in GB take 2 to several minutes to load up. Loops and instruments like Timpani. I have several Loop folders:
Libraries > Application Support > GarageBand > Apple Loops or Apple Loops Index. There is NOTHING in the Apple Loops or Apple Loops Index folders.
Libraries > Application Support > Audio > Apple > multiple folder with info in it including > Apple Loops for GarageBand and > Jam Packs
In the Libraries > Application Support > Logic (folder) there are no Loops
Should I move the Loops to the have GB access them more quickly? Alias folder and how do I create that?

To do this, in iTunes go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced Tab>General Tab and then uncheck the "Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized" box.
That has nothing to do with iTunes looking for music on your computer.
Keep iTunes music folder organized will create a folder hierarchy of artist and album names that contains all relevant audio files with the correct track names and order.
When you run iTunes for the first time (only), it asks to search your computer for music.
After the first time, the ONLY music that will get added to iTunes is the music you add. iTunes does not add music based on what you put in folders. It does not "watch" to see if anything is added to a folder.
If you do not want music copied to the iTunes music folder when adding to library, (and you want the music in your own folders somewhere else), set it in the prefs.

  • Office 2010 Outlook Search and Indexing not working

    Hello,
I'm hoping someone may be of assistance as this has been plaguing my outlook for some time now.
    Problem:
When attempting to search for any emails via the search bar, it appears as if it is attempting to search, but I receive no results.
    Windows 7 x64 Service Pack 1
    Office 2010 Service Pack 2
    Connected to Office 365 Exchange
In services Windows Search service is not running, though Automatic (Delayed Start is selected), I attempted starting the service but it returned with an error saying it started and then stopped.
In Outlook options > Search > Indexing Options > the service is shown as "Indexing is not Running" and the list of indexed folders is empty. Everything else is grayed
out except "Advance Tab" which only has one button available called "Rebuild", everything else is grayed out.
I am aware this question was asked a few years back but the linked articles referenced are no longer working.
Though I seem to be having a similar problem and any assistance and new suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
Please check if you can search mailbox in OWA. If OWA works well, the issue is related Outlook.
If it is the same issue in OWA, in Exchange 2013, you can use the following command to check the content index state of the mailbox database where this user is.
    Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus | fl name, contentindex*
If the content index status is Failed, please try to reseed the search catalog. After that, please rebuild the index in Outlook to check the result.
If you are using Office 365, I recommend you ask this question in Office 365 forum which is staffed by more experts specializing in this kind of this problem. You might get a better answer there.

  • Keywords, Indexing, Networks

    Bridge CS4
I appreciate any help and advice, I have searched and read up on many similar stories / problems.
Our college shares a network drive filled with 6 years of photos. I am slowly going through and adding keywords, my workstation finds them fine, but other people's don't.
So, in "find", I click the "search folders not indexed" and after maybe an hour it will start to pull what I've keyworded (one year out of the six have been tagged with meta-data).
However, I found that when I searched for say "snow" and clicked the non-index folders, it found it, but if I went and searched for another different term, it would have to re-index. Maybe this was a user error, but shouldn't one index pass get all my keywords?
    In Conlcusion:
    a. Should I finish all the keywording and then share a cache file between the computers (is that possible)?
    b. When I'm done, should I just let the 4 other workstations index for a few hours but then whenever new folders of pictures are added, tell the users to browse that particular folder so their Bridge indexes it?
    c. Find another software for searching through large image banks over a shared network. Any recommendations?
    Thank you all,
    Matt

This subject has be brought up several times, and I would like to help you with answers.  I am handicapped to offer advice that has worked in previous posts as the responders have failed to say how the problem was solved.  So I don't know if the offered solutions worked, they found other solutions, or they just gave up.
When you do a find and have the box "search folders not indexed" checked I have found that it goes through all the folders again and indexes the files, even it you just did a search.  So uncheck the box unless you want to spend the time to re-index again.
The following is advice I have gleamed from other threads on this subject, but no one has responded back with this works.  Personally, I have no knowledge about networked computers.
The cache should be located on one computer and all others should reference that location.  With this setup changes to metadata will be seen by all        users.  If each user has their own cache location the data is not shared.
If this is practical and works, or does not work,  some feedback would be appreciated.  That way others will benefit that read this thread in the future.
    Thanks

  • Windows 7 VERY slow browsing and creating folders

    Hi!
I'm having a rather strange problem with Windows 7 RC.  I've noticed that browsing folders is generally slower than in WinXP, but still acceptable.  But lately I'm having a lot of difficulties moving files, creating folders, renaming folders and files, and even waiting for an Explorer window to refresh after some external app has created or modified a file.  Sometimes I have to wait up to 30 seconds for a new folder to be created, and another 10 or 15 after I rename it (from "New Folder" to whatever else).
This does not happen in every folder in my HDD, but I don't know exactly in which ones.  I thought it was the indexed folders, so I removed a few from the Windows Indexing database, and they were still slow (after system reboot and all).  Then I thought it would probably happen in folders that are part of a library, so I removed them and the problem was still there.  I can't think of another reason for this to happen in some folders and not others.  It seems to happen in my frequently used folders, which honestly sucks.
Just for the record, here's my system's specs:
Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop (e1705), late 2006 model
    2GB DDR2 667 ram
320 GB 7200 rpm seagate HDD, aftermarket (really fast drive, not the problem here)
Intel Core Duo (Centrino Duo) 2.0GHZ
Windows 7 RC, multiboot with WinXP
    Thanks!!!

For the benefit of those who are being driven nuts with SLLOOOWWWW Explorer 'Problems', I list the methodology which has worked for me.
As always, 'Use at Own Risk' and 'Your Mileage May Vary'.
Do NOT repeat NOT perform these steps unless youfully understand the ramifications and are prepared to live with the consequences.
BACKUP FIRST !!! - Create a RESTORE POINT!
The latest incarnations of Windows attempt to 'out-think' the user in order to provide a 'Better Computing Experience', and that is well and good for the average Joe-Blow, but NOT what the Power-User wants or expects.  There are MANY suggestions as
to the cause and solution(s) for slow Explorer response, but we have to remember just how much work is going on behind the scenes.
Much of that work is to provide 'pretty' screen enhancements and to make for 'simpler' Searching.  By foregoing some of these we can reclaim quite a lot of CPU cycles and Disk I/O for our own (Applications) use.
Before you embark on any changes, carefully assess just how you use your PC. - How important are Thumbnails? - What value does Content View really provide? - Can you implement a Folder structure and File-Naming convention which makes Snippets and Content
    indexing of little use?
You'll still be able to see local thumbnails if that's what you want, they will just be remade each time you open the folder and select Thumbnail (Large Icon) View.  This is usually less bothersome than the time loss of having a 'Master' Thumbnail
cache maintained and updated for every file operation.
Certainly, some 3rd Party 'add-ons' (Power Archiver for one! & similar) may cause problems, as can poorly configured A/V programs (realtime checking of Notepad for instance, every time it is opened??? Why not bring back the old innoculate method?) -
    but I digress.
For many, the slow Explorer problem exists without any of the suspects / causes mentioned in previous Posts, or elsewhere online.
I repeat: 'This methodology has worked for me - Your Mileage May Vary'.
Now for the fun & games:
Kill the time and resource hog 'Indexing Services' - Plenty of advice on how to do that is available online.
    DISALLOW Indexing on all volumes.
To retain the ability to search for my files, I have been using the Search Everything tool from:
http://www.voidtools.com/ which searches ONLY on local or removable NTFS volumes. (ie NOT FAT32 USB Drives!)  But that poses very little problem when I examine my real-world use of any Search Tool.
SE needs Administrator privileges for its low-level file-system access, certainly not an issue to have a responsive Global Search at your fingertips.
With 34.5 Gb (> 137,000 files in > 20,000 folders) on HDD, and 627 Gb (> 2,300,000 files in > 82,500 folders) on a Portable USB Drive, Search Everything has about 74Kb RAM usage and the db file is 10.5 Mb on disk - not a huge overhead.
The initial run occupied about 10 minutes of my setting options and less than 5 minutes for the building of the database.
The online FAQ has plenty of information including how to use wildcards, Path Matching, boolean operators and regex use.
With a lean mean responsive search at hand, now to clobber some more of the 'features' which are supposed to 'help' us in our computing experience...
    Big Guns Time!
    Start Group Policy Editor -
    Start > Run > gpedit.msc
    Navigate to:
Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer
Locate and ENABLE the settings as listed:
    1. Turn off the display of thumbnails and only display icons on network folders
Disables the display of thumbnails on network folders in Windows Explorer.
Windows Explorer displays thumbnails on network folders by default.
If you enable this policy. Windows Explorer will only display icons and never display thumbnails on network folders.
That gets rid of the first time-waster - Network access is slow enough without adding the extra traffic for thumbnails, and many PCs are stand-alone anyway.
    2. Turn off the caching of thumbnails in hidden thumbs.db files.
Turns off the caching of thumbnails in hidden thumbs.db files.
This policy setting allows you to configure Windows Explorer to cache thumbnails of items residing in network folders in hidden thumbs.db files.
If you enable this policy setting, Windows Explorer does not create, read from, or write to thumbs.db files.
If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, Windows Explorer creates, reads from, and writes to thumbs.db files.
This goes hand-in hand with 1.
    3. Turn off Windows Libraries features that rely on indexed file data
This policy setting allows you to turn off Windows Libraries features that need indexed file metadata to function properly. If you enable this policy, some Windows Libraries features will be turned off to better handle included folders that have been
redirected to non-indexed network locations. Setting this policy will:
    * Disable all Arrangement views except for "By Folder"
    * Disable all Search filter suggestions other than "Date Modified" and "Size"
    * Disable view of file content snippets in Content mode when search results are returned
    * Disable ability to stack in the Context menu and Column headers
    * Exclude Libraries from the scope of Start search
This policy will not enable users to add unsupported locations to Libraries.
If you enable this policy, Windows Libraries features that rely on indexed file data will be disabled.
If you disable or do not configure this policy, all default Window Libraries features will be enabled.
Well, with Indexing turned OFF, this one is a real no-brainer, isn't it?
    4. Turn off the display of snippets in Content view mode
Disables the display of snippets when Content view mode is turned on.
Windows Explorer shows snippets in Content view mode by default.
If you enable this policy, Windows Explorer will not display snippets in Content view mode.
That stops peeking into every file and trying to decode the snippet - MORE time-saving.
    5. Turn off caching of thumbnail pictures
This setting controls whether the thumbnail views are cached.
If you enable this setting, thumbnail views are not cached.
If you disable or do not configure this setting, thumbnail views are cached.
Note: For shared corporate workstations or computers where security is a top concern, you should enable this setting to turn off the thumbnail view cache, because the thumbnail cache can be read by everyone.
It (IMHO) is faster to generate the thumbnails as needed (for my usage anyway), rather than to be attempting to maintain a global cache each time a file is created, modified, deleted or moved.
This completely cuts out the thumbnail caching overheads, and makes quite an impressive speed difference.  Even on an old 1.7 GHz Laptop with 2 Gb RAM and an Intel 915GM Graphics Card (NOT the best choice for Win 7 by any means!).
    6. Turn off numerical sorting in Windows Explorer
This policy setting allows you to have file names sorted literally (as in Windows 2000 and earlier) rather than in numerical order.
If you enable this policy setting, Windows Explorer will sort file names by each digit in a file name (for example, 111 < 22 < 3).
If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, Windows Explorer will sort file names by increasing number value (for example, 3 < 22 < 111).
Do I REALLY want to waste the time on this procedure? If I want to sequence my files, I'll prefix the filenames with 0's - 003 < 022 < 111. Not a problem!
Subjectively, these changes make for a much more responsive system.
Objectively, moving over 2.3 Gb (7,500+ files) via 'Drag & Drop' from HDD to USB Drive shrank from 12 Mins+ to about 8 Mins. Explorer did NOT 'freeze', and I could freely change the displayed folders in both the Source and Target Explorer windows.
I hope that this is of use to others, it has served me well for the last several months.
A few minor delays when wanting thumbnail views, but certainly FAR LESS DELAY than before the changes, and
    no more stalled Explorer.

  • Auto-update Folders and Files

My computer is connected to a network. And on this network I keep copies of my file and folder system for my college courses. I want to be able to start my computer and have everything auto-upload new files to the network and auto-download new files to my computer from the network, that way I don't have to manually do it so often and worry about multiple versions of the same folder or file. Hi Lakshmikantha,
this depends a bit if the folder should be within a role (that's an IRoleFolder) or a folder on the "left" side, i.e. a real PCD folder.
Anyhow, you have to bind the corresponding object to the parent context, see for an introduction http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/de/df/eb5c42da4de92ce10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm and around.
