Industrial sized bug after changing my hard drive's name.

After I changed the name of the hard drive, when I try to open a "Recent Files:" file, it says "index.htm was not found.". And whenever I go to the Files panel into a site, it thinks there are no files in the site.
HELP!!!
Thanks in advance!
I'm running Dreamweaver CS4 on a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.6.6.

Doesn't sound like a bug.  Recently opened files will remember the full path of the files that were opened, not a relative path.  So recent files may not work for awhile until you start opening files on the newly named hard drive.  After that you will need to upgrade the paths in your site definitions as well.  After you start opening files again the recent files should populate with newer files that are on the new HDD.

  • Please help!!! Cannot run Windows Update in Win 7 Pro after changing new hard-drive. (X201s)

    Hi everyone,
I have been using my thinkpad x201s for more than one year by now. And recently I change a new and larger hard drive for my laptop. When I tried the thinkpad rescue and recovery disc on the new hard drive, everything works fine except that I cannot run Windows Updates after the installation was finished.  The recovery DVDs were burned directly from the original image stored in the computer when the first I received my laptop last year.
Every time when I try to run the Windows Update, it shows the following: "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running, you may need to restart your computer."
I restarted my computer later but nothing changed. Can't run Windows Updates and can't even install IE9.
I then moved back to my old hard drive and everything is normal, no problem with Windows Updates. I also tried to create a back-up image by running win 7 Backups and Restore. Later when I changed back to the new drive and followed the instructions to restore my system from the image I created earlier in a USB drive, it worked except that still the system can't run Windows Updates program.
I'm now getting very confused and upset, is it something to do with the software copyright? It's been a week now and I tried to Google the similar problem but no solutions work here. All I want to do is moving my current system to the new hard drive so that I can continue to use my laptop but it just failed updating every time.
Could anyone kindly tell me what to do when changing hard drive in order to avoid the problem I'm dealing with? Sorry I'm not a pro type user and just want my laptop to work appropriately.
My warranty has already expired so I guess the Lenovo Technical Hotline wouldn't answer my questions anymore. Please help!! Much appreciated.
    Thanks so much in advance!!

I'm not sure this is the issue, but from your description, it seems as though all you have to do is activate the windows update service. If I were you, I'd search for "Services" in the start menu, open it and look for "Windows Update". Check in its properties that it is set to "Automatic (Delayed)", if it isn't, set it, and start the service, you should then be able to check for updates, be careful though that none of your other programs aren't stopping the service, usually these programs are there to "optimize your performance" or "boost your system",...
    Hope this helps.

  • After change of hard drive batteries are not available anymore... Any advice?

After my hard drive has been changed at the Apple Store today (it had corrupted files and didn't work anymore), the battery of my MacBook Pro (13 Inch, Mid 2009, HDD 160GB OSX 10.5) doesn't charge anymore. It shows the "X" in the battery symbol and says "no batteries available". The System Profiler says that the battery is not installed. How can I install it? Any help/advice? I am traveling for three hours from tomorrow morning... Would be great if anybody has quick advice on how to solve this problem myself as I won't be able to go to an Apple Store for the next three weeks. Thanks a lot!

Outside of contacting Apple there's not a whole lot that you can do unless you open the computer up yourself to try and diagnose and fix it which would void your warranty, as the battery and other components (other than the memory and the hard disk) are not user-servicable parts.

  • After changing my hard drive to SSD when reinstalling OS X destination drive not found

I recently replaced a bad Hitachi HDD with a Samsung SSD. When reinstalling OS X the install stops on the "Select the disk where you want to install Mac OS X. The window below is blank. The Samsung SSD is not detected. I have watch videos on the install of the SSD and I have done it all correctly. Twice.
    Any ideas would be helpful.
    Thanks,

    Drive Preparation
    1.  Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
When formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Complete the OS X installation.

  • ITunes locking up after changing external hard drives?

I recently got a new external hard drive, and moved my music from the old one onto the bigger new one. (They're both the same brand, so I know it's not a compatibility problem.) I seem to have everything loaded into iTunes fine, but when it goes through and tries to get the album artwork, or determine the gapless playback it freezes, and I can't even force quit it. The only way for me to close iTunes is to log out and log back on.
I've tried un- and reinstalling and that wasn't the answer. Any help/Suggestions is greatly appreciated.

I came across your post because, I have been having issues for a while with the same description, except that I am using separate partitions on my main drive.
What I noticed is that if I set my podcast downloads to go to my NTFS main partition, there is no lag... but the moment I set it to my FAT32 partition, the lag starts back up.
I believe that the issue is with the slooow write time to FAT32 in large drives. (And in my instance, the move command apple does to put the podcast, which writes to the FAT32 partition and removes the NTFS temp download) Do you see the same lag or alot shorter if the drive is formatted to NTFS?
I don't really have any space currently to format my partition to test the issue, but I the fact of the downloads speeding up when set to my NTFS main disk makes me think that this issue could be lessened by using FAT32.
a side note for me, I'm considering reformatting my drive to NTFS, after backing up due to the advancement of ntfs3g in linux, so this could solve my problem at least.

  • Help! Error 0xc000000f after changing the hard drive!

Please help. I have gone through this entire forum and NOTHING is working for me. My HP G42-303DX Notebook is only a few years old. I accidentally dropped it and apparently the harddrive broke. I purchased a new one and installed it. Forgetting that I received NO back-up or recovery discs,  I purchased the ones from the HP website. As soon as I got them, I installed it. After all recovery discs were installed I got the following error:
    ==============================================================================
    Boot Manager:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1.Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.
2.Choose your language settings, and then click "Next".
    3.Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
    ===============================================================================
I have done ALL the testing and everything comes out as "passed". I decided to remove the final disc, but then I noticed that my notebook was not ejecting the disc. Also, I cannot boot from the disc drive. I have reset my computer hundreds of times and it will not eject it. I have pressed F10 as per the other sites, changed the boot order etc etc and I still get the same error (above) and the disc drive will not open and/or will not be recognized by the notebook.
Stupid question to all the experts out there, but I thought the recovery discs included windows? Yes or no?
Any help you guys can give me I would greatly appreciate it. I am desperate. Again, I have read forum after form and I still cannot fix this. My work is very strict and have blocked numerous websites, even some to pay my utility bills on. But my work computer is the only computer I have access to.
Please help!!! I really don't want to resort to going to a tech company to get my laptop fixed.

    Hello sincityjenn,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you're trying to get your Notebook up and running after replacing the harddrive and are running into an error. I will try to help you with this.
I would like you to read over this document: Looking for HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive?
This statement at the start of the document should asnwer a question you had "An HP recovery solution can be used to return a computer's software configuration to its original condition". This imply's that you already have the OS on the computer.
What you would need is an installation disk for Windows, and to actually re-install the OS. If that doesn't work then you may actually wanna call support and run the situation by them to see what options are availible to you.

  • How can I get my site back (done with Iweb) on my new hard drive? I had to change my hard drive after droping my computer.

Can someone help me. I had to change my hard drive few weeks ago and lost everything. I made a site via iweb and my site is still on line but I don't know how can I get my site back on my iweb with my new hard drive.

  • Im new to the iCloud and Mac in general. After experincing a hard drive crash out of the blue, I lost everything. I want to make sure this doesn't happen again. I show backups for my iPhone and my daughter's iPod but my mac doesn't exist. How do I fix tho

I'm new to the iCloud and Mac in general. After experiencing a hard drive that went out of the blue, I lost everything. I wanted to use the icloud to back my documents up. I went into the iCloud under settings but it only shows my iPhone and daughter's iPod. How do I get my Mac to back up too? Is there something I need to use to have the documents back up?

You cannot back up your Mac to iCloud. Even backing the whole thing up to another online service would be dubious because it would take a very long time. You should buy an external hard disk and back up to that - even better, buy two and use one to make a Time Machine backup and the other to clone your Mac from time to time, thus giving you a backup from which you can boot in an emergency.
If you wanted to back up a suitably sized selection of data to an online service there are a number of third-party methods available, some of which are examined here:

  • How in the HECK can I change my Hard Drive icon??!??!!

I've tried searching these discussion forums for how to do this, but the question has always remained unanswered! Does ANYbody know how to use this? I'd buy applecare but I'm a student and can't afford it. Would somebody please figure out how to make it so that you can paste a new icon on top of the standard icon for 10.3.9? It's driving me crazy that after I copy the icon I want to use for my hard drive that I can't paste it on top.
And I've tried doing a permissions repair in Disk Utility.
    400 MHz PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

That's how other people do it, HVlaar; it's the standard procedure. Works fine for me. Are you logged into an admin account? Have you considered that changing your hard drive icon probably isn't an important thing to do anyway?

after a restart it works for a time, but always slow. I went to the Applestore this afternoon and the made a check and said it would be the logicboard and they would have to change it for CHF 600 and it would be ready in 10 - 15 days

  • Gray screen before change of hard drive. Changed hard drive and still gray.

I have already done the startup commands and I'm getting nothing. Have the install disc in and still nothing....bought a new sea gate 1tb hybrid hard drive from macupgradestore.com. Help me

I went to macupgradestore.com and went to my my version iMac Intel mid 2007 20 inch.
I clicked on upgrade my Mac and went to hard drives and chose the "HYBRID HARD DRIVE" and got the 1TB.
    It's a 3.5" serial ATA-600 7200RPM.
I didn't think I could go wrong when this was one of the preferred stores from the Mac serial lookup site...
As far as the commands...before I changed the hard drive, it did nothing with the reinstall disc apple sent me.
After the hard drive replacement the commands still do nothing. I hear the disc inside the Mac spinning and making all those noises but nothing happens, just a bright white screen.
The only commands that do anything for me are the eject/f12 and command+option+R+P.
C at startup or any of the other commands do absolute nothing. Frustrated....

  • So I've changed my hard drive for an ssd and now I've been told to enable trim now I've got the apple cover will they show me how to enable it with out some program of the internet ?

so I've changed my hard drive for an ssd and now I've been told to enable trim  ?  now I've got the apple cover will they show me how to enable it with out some program of the internet ?

Use an app called chameleon ssd optimizer.
I enabled trim with it after almost a year of having installed a Samsung 840 pro SSD and my read/write speeds almost quadrupled.
I would definite;y advise using it even though Samsung SSD's come with there own garbage disposal.
    Hope that helps.

  • Problems with back up after replacement of hard drive

    Hi,
Recently I had my Seagate hard drive change due to a world wide recall by Apple. Prior to changing, I backup everything on my Mac using Time Machine with Time capsule. The technician bootup my system using a boot disk I think, after that I transferred all backup data from my time capsule to the Mac. Everything seems alright with the "restore" until I want to back up my latest data....I could not back up as my previous latest copy and just backup teh changes. The TCapsule showed my data which is 259GB but I cannot use back this data.
Do I have to delete this copy of backup in TC and restart the process from strt again? 259GB might take up to 24hours.
    Please advise.
    Andy

You need to erase the Time Capsule drive and start again. Whenever you change a hard drive, motherboard, etc., then Time Machine considers that a new computer and wants to create a new backup.
Use Airport Utility to erase the Time Capsule drive. Do not try removing the data manually.

  • Random beep since I changed internal hard drive

    Hi everybody!
I recently changed the hard drive of my Powerbook G4 after the first one had been damaged through shock. This new drive (160GB) works fine, but since I got it installed, sometimes my computer makes one single beep, about half a second long, it's not a system sound, more like the beep of a microwave. These occasional beeps seem to occur quite randomly, sometimes once or twice in a week, but then some days they can be heard several times in one single hour. I also noticed that sometimes when scrolling down I hear a faint sort of clockwork sound. Otherwise everything works fine, I just wished to know if these strange sounds point to impending problems, or just can be disregarded.
Has anyone else experienced the same?
    Thanks for any help!

Hi, sorry about getting back late to this subject, but I've been overbusy.
About the sound I mentioned, I think a faint hoot would be the best description, or like the humming of a phone, and it did NOT occur at startup, but quite erratically.
I suspect it indicated overheating of my hard drive. Eventually, this drive (a Samsung 160 GB/5400 I installed last spring) showed problems recently. With Apple Hardware Test it showed an error message, with Tech Tool Deluxe the surface test indicated defective blocks. So I reformatted the disk 3 times, and did AHT again to be able to prove to my local retailer that the drive he sold me , still under guarantee, was defective, and then, surprise!, AHT declares my hard drive faultless. Since then, I have experienced no more hoots from my disk. I also have set my computer to achieve more power savings, which results in less heat produced by the hard drive. The TechTool surface test still indicates a few defective blocks, but I do regular backups and I have decided against getting a replacement HD, because I prefer to get a Toshiba HD if anything goes really wrong, their quality in terms of overheating being described as much better. Do you think I'm right in this?
At this point, I'm lloking for a trustworthy external portable FW400-bootable hard drive that I might have as a safety device in case my hard drive crashes. Unfortunately, the WD My Passport Studio I bought is not FW400-bootable, any suggestion of the best device to suit my needs is welcome, thanks for your help!
