Informatica Server & Datawarehouse Database

Hi All,
We are planning to have Informatica Server & Informatica Repository Server on our data warehouse database solaris box. We are expecting huge data flow while in use.
We want to know how should we go about server sizing for such configuration (CPU & Memory sizing)? Any inputs on this would be of great help.
I went through the system requirement document for BI Apps installation. But it gives information only on minimum system requirement for installing all components.
Thanks,
Prasad

Typically in large scale production deployments you wll find the following configurations:
1. DAC Server - Informatica Servers - DAC and Informatica Metadata (Repository)
2. Data Warehouse Instance
3. DAC Client - Informatica Clients.
Unfortunately there are not a lot of guidelines for sizing out there.

  • Colocation of Informatica Server, Repository Server and Repository DB

    Hi
Is there any real benefit in co-locating Informatica Server, Informatica Repository Server, Repository DB on the same VM? This VM will also have the DAV Server and the DAC Repository will be in the same DB where the Informatica Repository resides?
    Is this a recommended approach?
If Informatica Server, Informatica Repository Server are isntalled on 1 VM and DB on another VM, is there a huge performance impact when I have about 1200 workflows a day to run and 1800 mappings.
    Thanks

    Hi
I choose the same option .
But the problem is with Servers menu in CMC.
I needs to select the ReportApplication server  and change the number of database records to read when preview to a higher number like 80000(default is 2000).
    Thanks for the inputs.

I am trying to upload tab delimited file from application server into database.
I have upload the file from presentation to application server by CGZ3
and i am able to see file in app server with #s and it appers in application server as

    Any suggestions on this

    Hi,
Thats the line feed character. After reading  the application server file, use this
    data: lv_feed type c value CL_ABAP_CHAR_UTILITIES=>CR_LF.
    loop at itab.
replace all occurrences of lv_feed in itab-field with space.
    modify itab.
    endloop.

  • If RH Server's database goes down, does RH Server go down also?

Hi experts. I've a couple RH Server questions:
Supposing RH Server's database fails, or at least it's connection to the database fails. What would be the consequences. That is, would RH Server crash and not serve up anything. Or, would it simply be that reports are no longer accessible, etc.
Has anyone used RH Server (installed on a Win 7 system) connected to a SQL Server Express instance (installed on another Win 7 system to spread CPU load).
My IT Manager is very leery of the free database option (for performance/reliability reasons), but there's no way we're going to spend almost 20K$ on SQL Server or Oracle DB. So, I'd like to allay his concerns about the SQL Service Express option.
    Thanks in advance.
    -Kurt

Rh Server *is* a database-driven application and as such it requires a database be up and working for both serving content as well as reporting.
Your IT person raises good points. I have used the "SQL Express" version without issues. As your IT person already knows, there are certain Microsoft connection and size limitations on its use. Otherwise it would be better than Access and assuming it fits the other DB/OS combination requirements I noted in the links above.
Unless something has changed, the open-source Apache Tomcat Server itself does not support "Load Balancing" and so I don't think you can "spread the CPU load". Although I am not that network savvy, so a call to Adobe support (asking to be escalated for Rh Server-specific assistance) to verify this would be a good idea. That said, I know organizations that have set up "fault tolerance" configurations to their satisfaction (but can't be more specific than that.)

    Hi,
Me and a collegue is administrering our new enterprise BI portal in SharePoint 2013 (On Premise) and have a problem with using a specific Excel file including general ledger data as data source through a BISM file.
This particular BISM file can't be saved without getting the error message "There were errors found while validating the page: Cannot connect to the server or database."
BISM files against other Excel sheets and sources (for example SSAS tabular databases) works well.
Can anyone help us pinpointing whats wrong here, this is a really important stakeholder in our organization requesting this reporting?
    Cheers!

  • Load Data from a table on one server's database, to the same table structure in multiple server databases

    Hi,
I have a situation where i have to load data from one server/database table to multiple servers/databases.
    Example:
I need to load data from dbo.TABLE_A  (on Server: Server_A & Database: Database_A)  to the same table on the list of server databases like
    Server: Server_B , Database: Database_B
    Server: Server_C , Database: Database_C
    Server: Server_D , Database: Database_D
    Server: Server_E , Database: Database_E
    Server: Server_F , Database: Database_F
    Server: Server_G , Database: Database_G
    Server: Server_H , Database: Database_H
so on and so forth on 250 such server database combinations.
The table structure is the same on all the servers.
If i make the source or destination dynamic, it throws an error while mapping ?
I cannot get Linked server permissions and SQL Server Config thing doesn't work as well.
Please suggest on how to load data from one source to multiple server/databases.
    Thank you.

I just need to transfer one table's data. its like i have to use a query to pick data for
the most recent data. So i use something like, select A, B, C, D from dbo.table where ETL_TIMESTAMP > (the max(etltimestamp) in the destination on different server). There are no foreign key relationships and the data should not be truncated. it just had
    to append the new records.

But the basics were quite easy to code. The entire package is 500 lines, includes comments and blank lines for formatting, and supports the basic FTP client command set. Not really a complex piece of software to write - but I found that many developers seem to think that writing network socket software is complex. Not really the case...Mine's a big larger, but incorporates functionality similar to what Chris provided in his, such as being able to use SQL to query a remote file using pipelined functions, or functionality to write the results of a query directly to a remove file.

How to restore SQL Server 2008 database to SQL Server Express 2012.
I BACKED UP a SQL Server 2008 database from work, which runs the enterprise version of 2008, and I tried to RESTORE it to my new 64-Bit home PC which is running the new SQL Server Express 2012 64-Bit (Advanced Edition).
But if fails. I get the following message text.
Can anyone help me please. I thought restoring a 2008 database to the later version 2012 would be possible.
Here is the error message. Thanks.

Are you sure your database is SQL server 2008 from error message it seems your SQL server version is 2000.I guess you have multiple versions of SQL server.
AFAIK you cannot restore backup of SQL server 2000 to 2012 directly .Restore it first to SQL 2008/2008R2 or 2005 then take backup again of new database created and then you would be able to restore it on 2012.Its kind of intermediate way
Also make sure your DB size is less than 10 G as max DB size supported by Express edition is 10 G and if your DB size is more than 10 G restore will fail.
You are also trying to restore enterprise DB backup on express edition so you will loose enterprise features on express edition

  • How can charge files text in a Datawarehouse Database???

All the days I receive 20 files to charge to my Datawarehouse Database. The files names are NAMETABLE_YYYYMMDD (ex. SALES_20040511)
In some files, for example to charge the Sales table, I have to join 2 files texts (or charge a Temporal Tables), because the SALES files text don’t have the correct Customer Key and I receive other file text with the Customer Key and the UnifiedCustomerKey appropriate
    How can I charge it???
    1)     SQL Loader
    2)     External tables
    3)     Another…
What I the best way???? (I have oracle 9i)
Could you recommend one of them???
    Thanks

Unless I misunderstand, you shouldn't need to change the data in the underlying text files. Just map them as external tables and do whatever manipulation, joining, etc is necessary in SQL.
If your file names change, you would have to create new external table definitions. You can certainly do this at runtime with dynamic SQL, just be aware that DDL issues an implicit commit before and after the operation, so you can't create new external tables in a transaction.

    Hi,
You are right. The sys.dm_db_index_usage_stats DMV tells how often and to what extent indexes are used.
Please check the unused section in the below article to find the unused indexes:
Uncover Hidden Data to Optimize Application Performance
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc135978.aspx#S5
In addition, you can also use Database Engine Tuning Advisor to verify if you have too many indexes. DTA can easily find the bad indexes and provide the recommendation for action.
