Information about updated packages

Often when I update my system I want to know what changes have been made to a specific package. Does arch have this information somewhere? On other distros there are places you can look up what the new changes are to a package. It would be good to know if the updated package is just a new build from upstream, a change in the configuration, or a patch to fix some security flaw. For certain things like kernel updates or binutils I can get paranoid upgrading and would just like to read some change log.
It seems like the most logical places for this in my mind would be a flag to pacman when doing -Suy or perhaps information about the update on the RSS feed for new packages.

f4hy wrote:The -Qc option is great for the limited packages that have changelogs, but at that point it is a bit too late. It would be nice to know what will be changed BEFORE upgrading the package. A flag to pacman to give the equivalent of -Qc but for --sync would be nice, unfortunately -c is already used :-\
You can query packages before they are installed, you just have to point it to a file with -Qcp.
The file must be local, which means downloading it first.
[fp@oscar ~]$ pacman -Qcp `sudo pacman -Sup|grep -e ^http`

    Question
When I update some of my addons, everytime I open firefox information about update is in new tabs, even "welcome to firefox" is always there in new tab! It's very annoying!

Ok I found a solution that worked for me, I simply dragged the user.js and the user.js.BAK to the desktop, before that I had done the same with the prefs.js and prefs.js.BAK, but that didn't help, so it's apparently the user file that was an error with.
It was the link from cor-el that helped me on the way http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved
It's at the bottom titled User.js file locks certain preferences.
This article can also help https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Preferences%20are%20not%20saved
It have still not made a new user.js file, but everything runs fine, hope this can help others to.

  • Some informations about update.

    Hi there,
I'm new here and i want to ask you about the cyclical release date of the updates (on x32 and x64), i mean, does it come a new version every day (what hour) or once a week (what day?).
I need this informations because a have some PC's which are not network conected and i must update them manually.
    Thanks alot,
    George from Romania.

    Hi,
I haven't seen such information in any official document. But updating once a day gives you a good level of protection. You could make a schedule to install updates manually.

  • Need information about Enhancement packages

    Hi all,
We are planning to implement Enhancement Packages in our Solution Manager server. The primary purpose will be to generate reports for the BI and APO systems configured in the Solman 7.0 system-System status and health check reports.
Can anyone help me with some information and how beneficial EHP will be for reporting and any other better ways to utilize that?
    Thanks,
    Anupama

    Hi Anupama,
Hope this is regarding EHP1 for solman?.
    1) For Health Checks, you already have EWA- this forms the primary Report for your analysis of the system and by default you can get EWA for ABAP-(little configurations needed). But for getting EWA-Java you need to configure Diagnostics. Diagnostics will also help in root cause analysis,in case of any issue - EHP1 has the guided procedure for the same. Also Live cache- workload analysis is also possible.
    2) System Status - Once the sytem monitoring and Alerting mechanism is configured, you can get the status of the system, Errors,
job failures etc. Its an enhancement of CCMS.
feel free to revert for queries.
    Thanks,
    Jagan

  • Need somne information about some packages.

Hi I am trying to understand a script where some packages are used.
    dbms_sql.open_cursor
    dbms_sql.parse
    dbms_sql.define_column
Can someone explain me what theses packages do?
    FOR cur_source_rec IN cur_source LOOP
    lv_version_cursor_num := DBMS_SQL.OPEN_CURSOR;
    lv_dml_statement_txt := 'SELECT ' || cur_source_rec.name ||
    '.what_version FROM DUAL';
    BMS_SQL.PARSE(lv_version_cursor_num, lv_dml_statement_txt,
    DBMS_SQL.NATIVE);
    DBMS_SQL.DEFINE_COLUMN(lv_version_cursor_num, 1,
    lv_package_version_txt, 100);
Well I d like to know what theses special functions do.
Where can I find a complete definition of these packages?

The documenation is always a good place to start.

  • Want information about updates

    Hello friends!
I am using Mac OSX 10.4.5 & Final cut studio 5.1 with Xserve raid 1.5
I want to update my system, so which all update should be used?. I mean can i update OS to 10.4.10 & FCP to 5.1.4--I hope they dont have any other bugs & are stable updates. Also tell me any other updates to be done because many of them are inter-connected.
Also tell me what should be the update of Xserve raid & Quicktime.

Once you upgrade your OS to 10.4.9 OR 10.4.10 then you have the right OS version to upgrade to FCP 6. Have you considered that?
A couple of links for you:

A little warning. Some people are experiencing problems with QT 7.2, personally I'm absolutely fine with it...so far!

  • Is there a newsletter that informs about Firefox updates?

I need to be informed about updates to Firefox via email so I can start an update process of our Firefox package.
Automatic updates is disabled in our package since users have no right to do this.

There is a monthly newsletter, you can sign up for it here - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/central/
An alternative is the Firefox channels newsletter which is dedicated to news about development. You can choose to only receive information about releases. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/channel/

  • Creating Software Update Packages - Best Practice?

I am setting up our SCCM 2012 R2 environment to begin using it for Windows Updates, however I'm not sure 100% the best method of setting it up.
Currently my plan is to break out the deployment packages by OS, but I read\told that I should avoid creating to many dynamic deployment packages, as every time it changes all the computers will re-scan that package.  So What I want to do is create
various packages for OS and years, so I would have a package that contains all updates for Windows 7, older then January 31, 2013 (assuming the package doesn't have 1000+ updates), and are not superseded\Expired. Then I would create Packages for the 2014
monthly updates each month, then at the end 2014, combine them all in 1 package, and restart the process for 2015.  Is this a sound plan or is there a better course of action?
If this the best practice method, is there any way to automatically create these packages?  I tried the Automatic Deployment Rules, but I can not set a Year of release, only the a time frame of the release,(older then 9 Months), unless I am missing
something.  The only way I can see doing this is going into All Software Updates, and filtering on my requirements, and then manually creating the package, but this would less desirable, as after each year I would like to remove the superseded and expired
without having to recreate the package.
    Mark.

First, please learn what the different objects are -- not trying to be rude, just stating that if you don't do this, you will have fundamental issues. Packages are effectively meaningless when it comes to deploying updates. Packages are simply a way of grouping
the binary files so they can be distributed to DPs and in-turn made available to clients. The package an update is in is irrelevant. Also, you do not "deploy" update packages and packages are not scanned by clients. The terminology is very important because
there are implications that go along with it).
What you are actually talking about above are software update groups. These are separate and distinct objects from update packages. Software Update groups group updates (not the update binaries) into logical groups that can be in-turn deployed or used for
    compliance reporting.
Thus, you have two different containers that you need to be concerned about, update packages and update groups. As mentioned, the update package an update is in is pretty meaningless as long as the update is in a package that is also available to the clients
that need it. Thus, the best way (IMO) to organize packages is by calendar period. Yearly or semi-annually usually works well. This is done more less to avoid putting all the updates into a single package that could get corrupted or will be difficult to deploy
    to new DPs.
As for update groups, IMO, the best way is to create a new group every month for each class of products. This typically equates to one for servers, one for workstations, and one for Office every month. Then at the end of every year (or some other timeframe),
rolling these monthly updates into a larger update group. Keep in mind that a single update group can have no more than 1,000 updates in it though. (There is no explicit limit on packages at all except see my comments above about not wanting one huge package
    for all updates.)
Initially populating packages (like 2009, 2010, 2011, etc) is a manual process as is populating the update groups. From then on, you can use an ADR (or really three: one for workstations, one for servers, and one for Office) that runs every month, scans
for updates released in the past month, and creates a new update group.
Depending upon your update process, you may have to go back and add additional deployments to each update group also, but that won't take too long. Also, always QC your update groups created by an ADR. You don't want IE11 slipping through if it will break
    your main LOB application.

  • About the package fl.*

    Hello guys !
Is it possible to have information about the package fl.* (like import fl.transitions.Tween)
Because i'm trying to use it with intelli J and i have compilation problem.
And by the way there is no trace of fl.* in the ActionScript Class Diagram
    Thx

    Ok thx
But i would like to use the package fl.* without using flash
In a pure actionScript 3.0 project, and when i try to import this package manually Intelli J (in my case) do not find this package.
So we can only use fl.* in flash or is there an other way to use it ?

  • Clicking on "View more information about this update" for 31.5.0 does nothing

I got a pop-up today that Thunderbird 31.5.0 is available. I clicked on "View more information about this update" because that usually takes me to the release notes and I prefer to read about updates and download and install them myself, rather than have the system do it for me. (I do this so I can save previous versions in case I run into a problem with the latest and want to go back.) But when I clicked on "View more information about this update" nothing happened. It didn't switch over to the browser nor start loading the release notes.

About 5-10 minutes after I had clicked on "View more information about this update" a few times (and had manually gone to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/31.5.0/releasenotes/ and downloaded and was in the process of installing the new release), my browser opened up three tabs on that page. I guess it was just a very delayed response.

  • HT1222 This article contains absolutely NO information about the update being offered.

This article contains absolutely NO information about the update being offered. It doesn't even tell me what it might break on my system (i.e. what gets changed). Just excuses of "We Aren't Telling Until Our Investigation Is All Done."
That's not a good enough reason to install an update, it never was, and it never will be.
"Do it because we say so" might fly overseas in Foxconn factories, but around here we don't like being kept in the dark and fed a load of fertilizer.

The individual update pages, such as this one, list the changes and fixes. The reference to information which Apple doesn't release is about security bugs it's identified but not patched, as it would only be useful to attackers.

  • How does Jbuilder store information about user created packages

    Hi ,
I am new to Jbuilder . I am trying to create a hierarchy of classes, eg:- com.test.first.servlet.abc.java . How do i add this hierarchy to the Jbuilder project. I have manually tried creating folders using New Folder feature, i guess thats not the way its supposed to be done.
I also opened the .jpx with a wordpad , to see what kinda xml tag is being used to create a package of classes. There is no information about that at all. Right now i am copying a .jpx file, i got from god knows where & editing that for my present project.
Any suggestions as to whats the right way of creating one !!?
    Thanx b4 hand,
    Maddy

If you're trying to add an existing java projects source files to a jbuilder project then select the Project Properties dialog from the Project menu. Navigate to the Source tab and add the directory that contains the new source files.

  • I would like to find out more information about certain security updates before I apply it.

In the Software update window, it said that "or information on the security content of this update, please visit this website: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222".
I went to that website and there is no information about this update.  It just shows the general info about all updates ....

Scroll down the page to the table, select the relevant update and click the blue text in the left column to be taken to  the page with specific info for that update.
