Information on the Virtual IP Address of cluster resource group
Hi,
I would like to know how we can find a Virtual IP address of resource group. i.e. The IP address associated to the SUNW.LogicalHostname resource of the resource group.
Is it always present in the output of the command 'ifconfig -a'?
What is difference between IPMP and the Virtual IP Address of the resource groups? Can these IP Addresses be common / same?
Thanks,
Chaitanya
Chaitanya,
There seems to be a little confusion in your question so let me try and explain.
Resource groups do not necessarily have to have a logical (virtual) IP address. They will only have a logical IP address if you configure on by adding a SUNW.LogicalHostname resource to the resource group. When you create that resource, you give it the hostname of the IP address you want it to control. This host name should be in the name service, i.e. /etc/hosts, NIS, DNS, LDAP.
When you have added such a resource to a resource group (RG), bringing the RG online will result in the logical IP address being plumbed up on one of the NICs that form the IPMP group that host the relevant subnet. So, if you have two NICs (ce0, ce1) in an IPMP group that support the 129.156.10.x/24 subnet and you added a logical IP address 129.156.10.42 to RG foo-rg, then bringing foo-rg online will result in 129.156.10.42 being plumbed in on either ce0 or ce1. ifconfig -a will then show this in the output, usually as ce0:1 or ce0:2 or ce1:3, etc.
An IPMP group is a Solaris feature that supports IP multi-pathing. It uses either ICMP probes or link detection to determine the health of a network interface. In the event that a NIC fails, the IP addresses that are hosted on that NIC are transferred to the remaining NIC. So, if your host has an IP of 129.156.10.41 plumbed on ce0 and it fails, it will be migrated to ce1.
That's a very short description of a much more detailed topic. Please have a look at the relevant sections in the Solaris and Solaris Cluster documentation on docs.sun.com.
Hope that helps,
Tim

NATing to the virtual MAC address of an HSRP group problems...
Hello
I have a problem where I need to NAT various IP addresses, and need the NATd addresses to carry the virtual MAC address of the HSRP group on the onward travels..
By default, with the Cisco 871's I'm using, the packets are NATd, but carry the MAC address of the external interface.. not the virtual MAC address.
The problem is that when I failover to the standby 871, the packets will then have the MAC address of the standby (new active) 871. This causes problems because my next hop doesn't update its ARP tables (very infrequent updates).
The next hop will accept packets NATd by the standby (now live), but will continue to send reply (eg ICMP) to the live (now standby) because it hasn't updated its ARP table.
I know that I can create a NAT pool with the virtual IP address as the only member of the pool. Packets will then have the virtual MAC address, and the problem will be fixed, but if I need to NAT IP addresses to *different* NATd addresses, then I would have to create multiple HSRP groups, with different virtual IP's and MAC's, and then create multiple NAT pools...
If I can't get my next hop (which I have minimal control over) to refresh/update it's ARP table, then I will consider the multiple HSRP group config, but before I try that I would like to know whether I would be able to have multiple virtual IP's and MAC's on a single interface. Apparently there was a problem with the Catalyst 2500/4500 series where the same MAC address would be used for all HSRP groups, and you had to use burned-in MAC addresses for HSRP groups.. which wouldn't provide a solution in this case..
Any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated. BTW I have proxy-arp on external interface, and gratuitous arp.
My software version is:
Cisco IOS Software, C870 Software (C870-ADVSECURITYK9-M), Version 12.3(8)YI1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

i reset my disabled ipad 2 and it is asking me for the apple id which first set it up but i forgot the password for that apple id and the password/recovery information for the recovery email address. What can i do?
Click here and use Apple's iForgot service, or contact their Account Security team, or if you're the device's original owner, take it and its purchase receipt to a physical Apple Store.

Hello,
When implementing a VDI solution, I'm getting an error on our virtualization host server. The error is:
Remote Desktop Virtualization Host failed to get redirection authentication information from the virtual machine [VDI-PC].
Hresult 0x8000FFFF
Event ID 8467, Severity: Warning, Source: Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices\TSV\VmHostAgent
This error happens every time a user or admin connects to a VDI desktop. This is a fresh install of Remote Desktop Services on completely fresh servers. This is in testing and we have not ever had it working before without the error.

How do I list the e-mail addresses in my contacts group? It seems to go only to the first address.
Hi ozziejack123,
Welcome to the Support Communities!
The individual contacts are sorted first within the Contact application. When you create a group in Contacts, the individual names in the group should keep the same sorting order. Try resetting the name order for all contacts.
Contacts (Mavericks): List contacts by first or last name
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH15091
Choose whether contacts’ first or last names are listed first, and whether they’re sorted by first or last name.
Change the name order for all contacts
Choose Contacts > Preferences, then click General.
Select an option next to “Show first name.”
Sort contacts
Choose Contacts > Preferences, then click General.
Use the Sort By menu to choose how to sort.
I hope this information helps ....

I changed my Apple password and I get the information back at the wrong email address. My email address is right under my Apple ID. How do I get this corrected?

That is good. In that case, your one and only account has not changed, just the login credentials you use for it. All your previous purchases will remain associated with that account, and the new login.
In essence, an AppleID is an email, but it has two parts. One is the login email address and password everyone traditionally thinks of as an AppleID. But that in turn is linked to an account with Apple. As long as you use the manage Apple ID portal to just change the email address and/or password for your exisiting AppleID, then the internal account tracks along with those changes as well.
However, on your iOS devices, you will need to log out and then log back in with the new login credentials:
settings -> iTunes & App Stores - tap your AppleID, and choose log out. Then log back in with the new email address and new password. -
Rename Sun Cluster Resource Group
Hi All,
We have a 2 node Sun Cluster 3.0 running on 2 x V440 servers. We want to change the resource group.
Can I use "scrgadm -c -g RG_NAME -h nodelist -y property" command to change the resource group name. Can I do this online while the clusters are running or do I need to bring the cluster to mainenance mode? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks. You cannot rename a resource group in that way in Sun Cluster.
You have two options:
-Recreate the resource group with the new name
-Use an unsupported procedure to change the name in the CCR. This requires downtime of both nodes and as it is unsupported I am not going to describe it here. If that is what you want to do, please log a call with Sun.
If you think renaming resource groups is a useful feature may I also ask you to contact your Sun Service representative so that they can take proper action to log an RFE for the feature. -

Sun cluster: virtual IP address
Hi,
What is the virtual IP address and how to configure it?
For example, should it be defined in /etc/hosts? dns?
Thank you,[[[s this correct to have apache HA?]]]
Apache can be set up as a failover resource (so it is active only on one node at a time) or a scalable resource (where it would be active on multiple nodes at the same time).
[[[Just an aside question: HAStoragePlus is NFS sharing? What is difference between NFS resource and mount resource (I saw Veritas differentiate between them)? In case I set up a shared disk, is it NFS or mount resource?]]]
HAStoragePlus is not NFS sharing. HAStoragePlus let's you create HA storage (it's called HAStoragePlus because there was an earlier generation data service (aka Clustering Agent a-la VCS) called HAStorage). This will let you wrap a shared storage device and fail it back and forth between multiple nodes of the cluster.
NFS sharing has to be handled using the SUNW.nfs Data service (or in other words, the NFS clustering agent) (ie only if you want to set up NFS as a HA service). Otherwise, you can use standard NFS.
Mount resource is (i'm guessing here) any resource that can be mounted. In other words, a Filesystem.
NFS resource is a resource that is shared out via NFS.
[[[Also, a basic question: The shared disk should not be mounted in /etc/vfstab. Correct? It should be only present when doing format on each node. Right? It is SCS that manages the mounting of the file system? This should be up before testing apache HA no?]]]
That is correct. Sun Cluster will handle mounting/unmounting the filesystem and importing/deporting the disk set (in Veritas world it is called a Disk group).
When you build your cluster resource group (aka VCS Service group), you will have to build the dependency tree (just how you would in VCS).
1) Create empty RG
2) Create HAStoragePlus Resource
3) Create Logical Hostname resource
4) Create Apache resource
5) define dependency of Logical hostname (Virtual IP) and HAStoragePlus (filesystem) so that apache can start.
At each stage, you can test whether the RG is working as it should before proceeding to the next level. -
While installing sql server 2012 with failover clustering I got the following error:

Hi Everyone !
My weblogic server listens on a virtual IP address. When the HttpProxyServlet proxies to another weblogic server, it doesn't make the outgoing proxy using the virtual IP address. It uses the the actual IP address assigned to the unix box and not the virtual IP address my weblogic server listens to. This has been confirmed from the firewall logs.
This is important because the firewall requires source IP and destination IP in its rules.
Is there a way to force weblogic server to use the virtual IP address for outgoing calls/requests.
Thanks,
EddieThanks for your response.
I can now see the different ip addresses assigned per session id. Is there a way I can get the thin client to display the ip address as per what I'm seeing in Application
and Services Logs/Microsoft/Windows/TerminalServices-TSAppSrv-TSVIP\Admin?
We have a plugin which looks for an rds session id's unique ip address. but due to the multiple ip addresses displaying. The plugin wont work.
is there a way I can get the ipconfig to show only the newly assigned ip address.
Thank you for your response, much appreciated. -
Configuring the port of the syslog destination address
Hello,
Is there a way to configure not just the internet address, but also the port number, to which the AEBS sends logging information?
The "Syslog Destination Address" field doesn't accept the ":port"-style address syntax. But I was wondering if there is a hidden workaround, like doing Option-click to expose a larger number frequencies selections.
Why do I care? For diagnostic purposes, I would like to enable the logging feature on my AEBS 802.11n and receive the logs on an OS X box. The app LogMaster can act as a syslogd daemon. The problem is it can't listen at the default port 514, since OS X's built-in syslogd daemon uses that port. This is despite the fact the built-in syslogd doesn't listen for log messages from the network and cannot be configured to do so without hacking inside the /System directory.
Any thoughts? The configurations for extend the CoS value to teh ip phone port looks rigth. The fact that you have to unplug the phone for it to work seems to suggest that this is an issue with the phone. Is it running the latest phone load? What kind of switch is this?

Virtual ip addresses for RDS sessions
I have a Win2k8 R2 Rds server with virtual IP enabled per session.
I created a new dhcp scope for it
But the problem I'm faced with is as follows
when I run an ipconfig on the first session I get 192.168.10.6
And then when I do the same for terminal two (T2) I get 192.168.10.6
192.168.10.7
Ipconfig for terminal session 3 192.168.10.6
192.168.10.7
192.168.10.8
Ipconfig for terminal session 4 192.168.10.6
192.168.10.7
192.168.10.8
192.168.10.9
Ipconfig for terminal session 5 192.168.10.6
192.168.10.7
192.168.10.8
192.168.10.9
192.168.10.10
I thought I was only meant to get two ip addresses? the RDS server's physical address and the virtual ip address.
I've tried setting static ip adddresses and via a registry fix which allows you to specify a start and end of the allocated ip range including a subnetmask.
I've tried the same via a local gpo on the RDS server without avail.
Looking forward to hearing back from everyone. Thanks!!Thanks for your response.

Configuring Virtual MAC Addresses on ASA
Hello,
I configure the virtual MAC address for a interface on ASA 5520, will enter the following command on the active unit:
failover mac address Inside 0012.3456.789a 0023.4567.89ab
The active MAC address is of the same as the Inside's burned-in MAC address of the active unit.
Similarly, the standby MAC address is of the same as the Inside's burned-in MAC address of the standby unit.
Do I get the effect of failover mac address command?
Thank you for your cooperation in advance.Hi Bro
That’s fine really. There’s nothing wrong if you’ve configured the active MAC address the same as the Inside's burned-in MAC address of the active unit.
In an Active/Standby failover, the MAC addresses for the primary unit are always associated with the active IP addresses. If the secondary unit boots first and becomes active, it uses the burned-in MAC address for its interfaces. When the primary unit comes online, the secondary unit obtains the MAC addresses from the primary unit. The change can disrupt network traffic.
You can configure virtual MAC addresses for each interface to ensure that the secondary unit uses the correct MAC addresses when it is the active unit, even if it comes online before the primary unit. If you do not specify virtual MAC addresses the failover pair uses the burned-in NIC addresses as the MAC addresses.
