Infotype header - best practice

Hi group
Today our ifnotype headers are created in a way that makes us have to break a lot of infotypes just to refresh the header.
There are 2 reasons in my opinion:
- We have chosen to read header on infotype begda
- We have eg. position information in the header
We want to change this so we don't have to break eg. address just to read correct data.
I don't feel reading header at sy-datum is a right choice.  This can give an incorrect picture if you read an infotype and the header is inconsistent with the actual situation in the date-range for the infotype.
So I am leaning towards letting the header contain much less information.
Does anyone have some "best practice" thoughts?
Any documentation I can read up on regarding best practice on this matter?
Thanks in advance
Kirsten

Hi,
Headers, in general, are part of the whole philosophical debate. Iu2019ve seen both ways: current dated and infotype date driven. Iu2019m an advocate of them being infotype date driven for the very same reason that you mentioned: display what is on the record.
The other school of thought is to always display current information. It also gets some leverage depending on what is being displayed. If you have OM related data like position, job, org units etc, and clients may want to always display the current information. Maybe they are trained that way to only pay attention to headers to give them ad-hoc type information. They can get historical data through other reports.
I donu2019t think there is any u201Cbest practiceu201D with headers; itu2019s a purely philosophical choice.
Hope this helps.

  • Best Practice for Placing meta tags in HEAD of document

    Good afternoon,
    We are utilizing Oracle UCM's ability to dynamically generate pages based on page templates, region templates, and contributor data files that contributors may edit and publish. We have a specific need to include meta tags in the head section of each page that are custom to the data present in each contributor data file. Including the meta tags in the region template that pertains to a section of our website does not work, as it does not include a <head> section. Alternatively, I can not place the meta tags in the page template, as the data in each meta tag is specific to the metadata surrounding each contributor data file.
    My question is this: Is there a best practice, or Oracle-supported method of accomplishing this task? I have to believe there is some way to accomplish this, as the need for meta tags for social media sites and search engines is very common.
    Thank you very much for your time,
    Josh

    Thanks for the reply, Jiri.
    I believe that the answer is 'yes' to both of your questions above. I do have a question about the formatting of the meta tag itself, as my main question is how do I extract the needed information from a particular CDF so that it is displayed in the <head> section located in the page template.
    I have a Region Definition for the content section of my page with a 'Title' field, which a contributor can fill in, save, and create a Contributor Data File with their own specified title. Let's also say that my page template, which formats the entire page, looks like this (rough):
    <html>
      <head>
      <title>Web page</title>
      </head>
      <body>
      <!-- placeholder for header section -->
      <!-- placeholder for content section -->
      <!-- placeholder for footer section -->
      </body>
    </html>
    What would my <meta> tag look like for the following:
      <meta property="og:title" content="Title of the content section"/>
    Let's name our templates/definitions:
    Page Template: PT_META
    Region Template: RT_META
    Region Definition: RD_META
    Contributor Data File: CDF_META
    In other words, how do I extract the information included in the Contributor Data File (as well as its metadata) for use in the Page Template? Is there some sort of Idoc Script call that can be used?
    Thank you so much,
    Josh

  • Best Practice for Updating Infotype HRP1001 via Class / Methods

    I want to update an existing (custom) relationship between two positions.
    For example I want
    Position 1 S  = '50007200'
    Position 2 S =  '50007202'
    Relationship = 'AZCR'
    effective today through 99991231
    Is there a best practice or generally accepted way for doing this using classes/methods rather than RH_INSERT_INFTY ?
    If so, please supply an example.
    Thanks...

    Hi Scott
    You can use a BAPI to do that.

  • Talking head with ppt slides... Best Practice?

    My video sequence is 1080i60 (1440x1080) and is about two hours long...
    The talent is green screened speaking to 60 slides that are off camera.
    My final output is going to be a combination of just the talent on the screen, just the slides on the screen, or the talent scaled down to the lower-left with the slides behind him news anchor style over his left shoulder.
    I am wrestling with keyframes, trying to scale him down and then back up.. and same with the slides... so.. I am looking for ideas/best practices... I must admit, my keyframing skills are still being developed...
    Should I just create 60 separate video clips (one for each slide) and position each clip accordingly or should I keep the one clip and use keyframes to scale up and down?
    Regarding the slides... I have tried exporting them as TIFF files from PowerPoint and now I don't know how to properly scale them so they look good either as full screen or behind the shoulder. I want to make sure they are still readable by the viewer.
    I also experimented with importing them into KeyNote and then exporting as QT file. The slides look better as a QT file but I am having trouble marking just one slide at a time and placing it in the timeline simulating a 'still'. I am now having trouble extending the duration of that freezeframe still for the length of the audio for that particular slide...
    Has anyone done this before? Once I get this figured out, then I can go to town for each slide making the appropriate adjustments... but, now I just don't know which path works best...
    Thanks in advance for your expertise and insight.
    -Steven

    trying to scale him down and then back up.. and same with the slides
    It's up to you, but I think I'd find it rather distracting to have the slides and the presenter zooming up or down. Why not just cut to a full frame of a slide or a full frame of the presenter when needed? But like I said, it's up to your own tastes and style.
    I have tried exporting them as TIFF files from PowerPoint and now I don't know how to properly scale them so they look good either as full screen or behind the shoulder
    PowerPoint presentations seldom look good on TV. The people that create them usually don't take TV (and its limitations) into consideration when creating the slides. If you have one of the few presentations that looks OK on TV and you did mention that they looked better as a QuickTime movie, you can always import the movie file into your FCP project and then create still frames from the movie (shift n) then set whatever duration you want.

  • Best practice for multi-language content in common areas

    I've got a site with some text in header/footer/nav that needs to be translated between an English and Spanish site, which use the same design. My intention was to set up all the text as content to facilitate. However, if I use a standard dialog with the component's path set to a child of the current page node, I would need to re-enter the text on every page. If I use a design dialog, or a standard dialog with the component's path set absolutely, the Engilsh and Spanish sites will share the same text. If I use a standard dialog with the component's path set relatively (eg path="../../jcr:content/myPath"), the pages using the component would all need to be at the same level of the hierarchy.
    It appears that the Geometrixx demo doesn't address this situation, and leaves copy in English. Is there a best practice for this scenario?

    I'm finding that something to the effect of <cq:include path="<%= strCommonContentPath + "codeEntry" %>" resourceType ...
    works fine for most components, but not for parsys, or a component containing a parsys. When I attempt that, I get a JS error that says "design.path is null or not an object". Is there a way around this?

  • Best practices for making the end result web help printable

    Hi all, using TCS3 Win 7 64 bit.  All patched and up to date.
    I was wondering what the best practices are for the following scenario:
    I am authoring in Frame, link by reference into RH.
    I use Frame to generate PDFs and RH to generate webhelp.
    I have tons of conditional text which ultimately produce four separate versions of PDFs as well as online help - I handle these codes in FM and pull them into RH.
    I use a css on all pages of my RH to make it 'look' right.
    We now need to add the ability for end users to print the webhelp - outside of just CTRL+P because a)that cuts off the larger images and b)it doesn't show header, footer, logo, date, etc. (stuff that is in the master pages in FM).
    My thought is doing the following:
    Adding four sentences (one for each condition) in the FM book on the first page. Each one would be coded for audience A, B, C, or D (each of which require separate PDFs) as well as coded with ONLINE so that they don't show up in my printed PDFs that I generate out of Frame. Once the PDFs are generated, I would add a hyperlink in RH (manually) to each sentence and link the associated PDF (this seems to add the PDF file to the baggage files in RH). Then when I generate my RH webhelp, it would show the link, with the PDF, correctly based on the condition of the user looking at the help.
    My questions are as follows:
    1- This seems more complicated than it needs to be. Is it?
    2- I would have to manually update every single hyperlink each time I update my FM book, because I am single sourcing out of Frame and I am unable (as far as I can tell) to link a PDF within the frame doc. I update the entire book (over 1500 pages) once every 6 weeks so while this wouldn't be a common occurrence it will happen regularly, and it would be manual (as far as I can tell)?
    3- Eventually, I would have countless PDFs inside RH. I assume this will eventually impact performance. So this also doesn't seem ideal?
    If anyone has thoughts/suggestions on a simpler way or better way to do this, I'd certainly appreciate it. I have watched the Adobe TV tutorial on adding a master page but that seems to remove the ability to use a css across all my topics and it also requires the manual addition of a manual hyperlink to the PDF file, so that is what I am proposing above, anyway (not sure the benefit, therefore).
    Thanks in advance,
    Adriana

    Anything other than CTRL + P is going to create a lot of work so perhaps I can comment on what you see as drawbacks to that.
    a)that cuts off the larger images and b)it doesn't show header, footer,
    logo, date, etc. (stuff that is in the master pages in FM).
    Larger images.
    I simply make a point of keeping my image sizes down to a size that works. It's not a problem for me but that doesn't mean it will work for you. Here all I am doing is suggesting you review how big a problem that would be.
    Master Page Details
    I have to preface this with the statement that I don't work with FM. The details you refer to print when they are in RoboHelp master pages. Perhaps one of the FM users here can comment on how to get FM master pages to come through.

  • Formatting external drive: best practice?

    Hi
    I want to erase and reformat an external drive used for video editing with my MBP. I do this so rarely I had a couple questions.
    First, in Disk Utilities, where the drives are listed, I should choose the size/mfgr.'s line, not the line where my name appears, rt?
    Then, I believe 'Mac OS Extended' is the best choice, not 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)', rt?
    Any other tips, tricks or suggested best practices?

    Drive Preparation
    1.Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    To just format a drive select the volume (sub-listing under the drive heading) then click on the Erase tab in DU's main window. Select the desired format scheme and click on the Erase button.

  • Arranging fields in a table-like form: best-Practice-Solution wanted

    Hello Experts,
    I´m wondering if there exists a 'best practice' considering how to arrange fields in a table-like form.
    I know about cross-tables, but that´s not what we need. Most of the requirements that I have come to known are just that certain fields should be put in a certain order in a table-like outfit.
    We have tried to do this using the drawing functions (e.g. putting a square around the fields and certain border styles), but it often happens that the lines overlap or there are breaks between the lines, so that you have to do a lot of manual configuration with the 'table'.
    Since this is a requirement I´ve come upon with many reports, I can´t believe that this is supposed to be the best solution for this.
    I don´t understand why there isn´t a table-like element in Crystal Reports to use for this. E.g. put a table with x rows and y columns in the header or group head section section and then just put the fields in it.
    Many thanks in advance for your help !

    Hi Frank,
    You can use build in templates available in Template expert.
    Click on Report menu-> Template Expert.
    Select the desired template. ( Table grid template would suite best here) and click OK.
    There is no facility of inserting a table directly as you said. You will have to do it manually by using lines and boxes.
    Hope this is helpful.

  • What is the best practice in securing deployed source files

    hi guys,
    Just yesterday, I developed a simple image cropper using ajax
    and flash. After compiling the package, I notice the
    package/installer delivers the same exact source files as in
    developed to the installed folder.
    This doesnt concern me much at first, but coming to think of
    it. This question keeps coming out of my head.
    "What is the best practice in securing deployed source
    files?"
    How do we secure application installed source files from
    being tampered. Especially, when it comes to tampering of the
    source files after it's been installed. E.g. modifying spraydata.js
    files for example can be done easily with an editor.

    Hi,
    You could compute a SHA or MD5 hash of your source files on
    first run and save these hashes to EncryptedLocalStore.
    On startup, recompute and verify. (This, of course, fails to
    address when the main app's swf / swc / html itself is
    decompiled)

  • Font sizing best practice in 2014

    Decided to obtain a better working knowledge of font sizing best practice, read until my eyes bled, and find I continue to have questions. So much posted is old (older than few years) and change happens fast.
    To the point; Since use of em units (or percentages) is often preferred, I now see that rems (root em) is another option, which leads me to ask:
    Should I consider using “rem” sizing?… or, do browser zooming capabilities of modern browsers mean I do not have to obsess over how precise I must be in guesstimating how viewers actually see my written content as they have better control at their end? Is em compounding of sizes something that must be considered?
    Thanks-

    Use a mixture of what is best suited.
    For document level I use pixels as in
    /* Document level adjustments */
    html {
      font-size: 13px;
    @media (min-width: 760px) {
      html { font-size: 15px; }
    @media (min-width: 900px) {
      html { font-size: 17px; }
    Then for the modules I use root level ems as in
    /* Modules will scale with document */
    header {
      font-size: 1.5rem;
    footer {
      font-size: 0.75rem;
    aside {
      font-size: 0.85rem;
    Then the size that will scale with the modules
    /* Type will scale with modules */
    h1 {
      font-size: 3em;
    h2 {
      font-size: 2.5em;
    h3 {
      font-size: 2em;
    Using this method I keep each scenario under complete control.
    A List Apart has a nice article on the subject.

  • Best practice for making changes to Oracle apps business views and BAs/fold

    HI
    The oracle BI solution comes with pre-defined Business Views- database views and Business Areas and folders. If we want to customize those database views or BAs and folders what will be the best practice in order to avoid losing it during any upgrades.
    For ex Oracle out-of box Order Management BA that we are using heavily needs some additional fields to be added to Order Header and Order Lines folders and we also want to add some custom folders to this BA.
    If we do the changes to the database views behind this BA would they be lost during the upgrade or do we have to copy(duplicate) those views, updated them and create a custom BA and folders against those views.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    If you are adding new folders then just add them to the Oracle Business Area. The business area is just a collection of folders. If the business area was changed in an upgrade the new folder would not be deleted.
    If you want to add fields to the existing folders/views then you have 2 options. Add the field to the defining base view (these are the views beginning OEBV and OEFV) and then regenerate the business views. This may be overwritten if the view is upgrade but this is unlikely.
    Alternatively, copy the view to create a new version and then map the old folder to the new view and refresh. You may need to re-map the folder if the folder is upgraded, but at least you have a single folder used by both Oracle and custom reports.

  • Best practice on 'from dev to test'move.

    Hello.
    My Repository 10.2.0.1.0
    My client 10.2.1.31
    I am writing to ask someone what would be the best practice and most common_sense_oriented way to move OWB from dev to qa/test environment?
    I have read a number of recommendations on this forum and other oracle docs and it seem somewhat tedious exercise...
    At the moment i am either having to simply copy and paste (ye not very professional but works a treat!) then just re-sync the tables to point to correct location on some of the smaller of my projects.
    Now i have a huge project with hundreds of maps with different source locations etc.
    I want to move it into test.
    My test environment is where we test ETL process before implementing it in live as oppose to UAT test.
    I imported the tables into OWB etc from the test, now i want to move my maps from dev to test and this is where my HOW TO comes.
    I have different runtime repositories on my test as per oracle recommended (same names apply to dev and test and live repositories for the consistency purposes). Importing the maps from the export of dev to test doesn't really work and i don't really want start tweaking with export files.
    for some reasons the import only imports it back to the project the export was taken from.... (which is as useful as a smack on a head, in my humble).
    copy and paste the re-sync all tables would be madness, misery and pain all in one!
    So what do i need to do?
    1) OK i imported all the tables and views from the test environment into OWB
    2) How do i move my maps from dev to test?
    3) even if i copy them over - would i honeslty have to then resync tables in every single map (i am already crying by the thought of it)?!
    It seem a little tidious to me.
    I can imagine that there is no silver bullet and everyone have different ideas, but someone please share your experience on how would do it?
    Here is something from the user guide and no matter how many times i read this - i just don't get how i can relate it to what i need to achieve.
    The following quote is from "OWB User Guide", Chapter 3.
    "Each location defined within a project can be registered separately within each Runtime Repository, and each registration can reference different physical information. Using this approach, you can design and configure a target system one time, and deploy it many times with different physical characteristics. This is useful if you need to create multiple versions of the same system such as development, test, and production."
    As i said - i have all my tables imported from DB to OWB, now how do i make my maps to appear in repository on test? I can see the relevance of location to deploy maps into the test runtime repository, but before then i somehow have to make them to appear in my test runtime repository in Design and make sure they are referencing correct tables etc.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards
    Vix

    Hello Oleg.
    Thank you very much for such detailed and very helpful reply.
    You are correct - i have my Design Centre and within it two projects - dev and test.
    Dev has all the locations pointing to the Development DB and it has it's own runtime repository/control centre configured.
    Test has all the locations pointing to the Test DB and it also has it's own runtime repository/control centre configured.
    I have one design centre and two runtime environments.
    both dev and test have identical tables etc. I moved the logic over form dev to test (all the functions, procedures etc), i have also imported tables and logic from TEST DB to the test project.
    All i want to do is now move over the maps from DEv to TEST. Which is not a problem (copy and paste are helpful), but then the copied maps are still point to the tables in Dev. Which means i have to sync it with test tables - i hope i am making sense here!
    I was hoping that there is some clever way of just changing something to effectively tell table in the map 'to point to the table in this database'. If the map is already configured - the only way to do it is to sync the tables, which will enable you to select the DB and table you want your table in the map to be pointing to.
    The reason i do not use imp/exp between projects - it is not really reliable. Have to then jump through the hoops ensuring all contrains etc are there. It is safer to just import whatever i need from DB - ensuring all my constrains etc are there.
    I do regular exports as a means of 'having a backup copy of the project', but never managed to import anything from one project to another (was easier with OWB 9 where it was possible to amend the .mdl file). It works fine to import back to the project the export was taken from.
    I don't have problems with the location etc - took me hours to set everything the way i wanted it to be and now all the deployments are going to the right schemas, DBs etc.
    Is there are any other way re-pointing the tables in the map to another DB? Like in the falt files - there is an option to choose the location of the file. So once the location is define/registered etc - you can choose whatever one is needed fromm the drop down on the left of the map.
    I hoped there would be something similar for the tables. Like a big bulk option for 'tick here if you want all tables in the maps to be pointing to identical tables in another DB) type thing. Guess something like bulk sync option...
    Oh well, guess i just have to stick with sync option (sobbing uncontrolably) and it hasn't stopped raining here for days!
    Once again - thank you very much for all your kind help and advice.
    Kind Regards
    Vix

  • Best practice when deleting from different table simultainiously

    Greetings people,
    I have two tables joined with a foreign key contrraint. They are written at the same time to keep the constraint happy but I don't know the best way of deleting them as far as rowsets and datamodels are concerned. Are there "gotchas" like do I delete the row in the foreign key table first?
    I am reading thread:http://swforum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?forumID=123&threadID=49918
    and getting my head around it.
    Is there a tutorial which deals with this topic?
    I was wondering the best way to go.
    Many Thanks.

    is there a "best practice" method for

    Without knowing many details about your specifics... I can suggest a few alternatives -
    You can definitely build coordinating the deletes into your application - you can automatically delete any FK related entries prior to deleting the master, or, refuse to delete the master until the user goes and explicitly deletes the children... just depends on how you want to manage it.
    Also in many databases you can build the cascading delete rules into your database tables themselves.... so that when you delete the master the deletes automatically cascade. I think this is something you typically declare when creating the FK constrataint (delete cascade and update cascade rules).

  • Multi layer table view/navigation controller hierarchy best practice

    Hi,
    I am new to iPad/iPhone development and wondering what the best practice for multiple layers of table views is? I understand the principle of a navigation controller providing the framework for moving up and down a list but have not yet quite got my head around if you should have one navigation controller for the whole tree or several navigation controllers.
    In my app I need to have the following:
    Main view -> window view showing some interactive elements (picker, buttons etc.)
    Setup view -> Hierarchy managed by nav controller/table views
    The setup view needs to manage the following hierarchy...
    - Level A:
    - Global app variables (one table view)
    - Level B Items (table view showing list of items at belonging to Level B)
    - Level B Item 1 (table view showing list of items at level C belonging to level B item 1)
    - Level C Item 1 (table view showing list of items at level D belonging to level C item 1)
    - Level D Item 1 (table view showing list of items at level E belonging to level D item 1)
    - Level E item (table view for properties of item at Level E)
    - Level D Item n
    - Level C Item n
    - Level B Item n
    Each level in this has some properties and then a list of child items.
    What would be the best way of structuring this? I would assume that creating a class that extends a view controller for each level is a given but what about the control of the navigation? Should this be handled by one navigation controller or one per level? I think I know the right answer but have not seen a neat way of implementing
    I think I am also best off having each level in it's own xib but, once again, am not 100% sure that this is the best design pattern.
    Many thanks in advance for any help/pointers!
    Cheers
    jez

    Hi Julian,
    I have struggled with the same questions you are addressing. On a previous project we tried to model based on packages, but during the course of the project we encountered some problems that grew overtime. The main problems were:
    1. It is hard to enforce rules on package assignments
    2. With multiple developers on the project and limited time we didn't have time to review package assignment
    3. Devopelers would click away warnings that an object was already part of another project and just continue
    4. After go-live the maintenance partner didn't care.
    So, my experience is is that it is a nice feature, but only from a high level design point of view. In real life it will get messy and above all, it doesn't add much value to the development. On my neew assignment we are just working with packages based on functional area and that works just fine.

  • Best practice for component layout?

    Hi,can people tell me their views on best practice in this area, using JSF.
    Eg, say I want this:
        LabelSml    InputField
        LabelLarge  InputField... ie 2 labels, 2 fields, vertically alligned, and with some space between the label and the field.
    and this one:
        Field                             Field... ie 2 fields with a lot of space between them.
    Finally, are there any examples on the web of UIs with many discrete fields on them (as opposed to logon/helloWorld and matrix data control), where I can look at how the design has been done.
    Marc

    I don't know if our solution is a best practice. We are not using the label property of input components because the alignment does not satisfy then. Instead we are using a <h:panelGrid> and nest <ui:label> and <ui:textField> (Studio Creator components) components in it. Multiple components in one cell are surrounded with a nested layout or grid panel. The number of columns is set by the attribute "columns" and width is controlled by the attribute "columnClasses".
